And the more object/models it has to load in, the more draw calls are performed (which is part of the engine), and that can increase CPU time. More plugins, even extra plugins could also increase loading times and performance depending on what they are. Disabling shadows also reduces draw calls, too.The Havok physics engine that the custom Source engine uses is also not that optimized on modern systems, and is in fact slightly broken on 64-bit (32-bit physics actually work properly. There's a video about this regression somewhere on YT).Lots of people blame internet latency for that, but usually it's not that, unless the server that is hosting the Gmod server is slow all of a sudden, or your own connection is laggy (your Internet bitrate doesn't matter if your ping time is high).tl;dr is yes, Gmod is a game that is over 18 years old at this point, with lots of improvements even to performance, and it could run just the same way on toasters back then. You really don't need to worry. Just know that some lag in Gmod is expected and normal, for better or for worse

can I get a list of dumb mistakes people make trying to get gmod working on linux just in case I am missing something? I have been trying to get it to launch since yesterday, redoing the guide steps with no luck. I don't think my gmod is even producing crash logs, it just refuses to launch.

Also managed to get a more elegant solution to custom flashlights than the beta tests, BUT you'll still need to edit every single teardrop on pac to change the colour to your own magic. You can change it's brightness by changing the white balance, making the colour closer to black or full contrast. Lighter colours will naturally be brighter by default so there's no one size fits all there, but after doing one you can just copy paste the hex to the rest.It also comes with a basic horn flashlight, used for testing, thought might as well leave it since the pac needs editing for personal use either way, so if you already have one you can just delete it.https://u.pone.rs/mwiamgab.txt
