I consider Cathy Wesluck to be THE voice of Spike, FOREVER!!! No offense to Tabitha. She was an okay replacement, but you can’t beat his original VA. I hope she returns for G6. I’m worried she’s done with MLP forever. Does anyone else worry that? If I ever met her, I’d ask, “Will you ever voice Spike again, ever?”

Considering there's evidence pointing towards the idea that Spike was supposed to be r63'd in Pony Life - which itself was probably part of a larger move by one of the producers to push his fetish fuel on the more feminine characters - I imagine Cathy was rather disgusted with that sort of change, and quit/refused the project.

Cathy's been involved with the franchise for a long time. She was the singing director for MLP Tales back in '92 and did voicework for G3. I'd like to see her brought back someday.
