Welcome to the... 8th? GameJam!For those of you not in the know, here's how it works:1. Go to : https://itch.io/jam/mlpcon-game-jam-no-movment and Join2. Maek gaem in any engine you'd like3. Once you finish your game, submit it on the itch page before the time runs out game so everyone can play it!4. When the timer runs out, I'll show off the first handful of minutes of the games in a live stream to give the viewers a general idea of the gameplay.I do implore you, BEG YOU to join if you're considering, even THINKING about participating. It helps me get an idea of the final games submitted. Also, this time we're doing 3 weeks of work time on the game. Turns out giving too much time makes devs overscope the time frame, who would've thought! As always, the stream will be the last panel of the con (without counting the closing ceremonies). Now, as agreed last thread, we'll be doing a thematic theme, and a restrictive theme. And now it's time for the restrictive theme.Welcome to... NO MOVEMENT>Does this mean my main character cannot move? That's up to you to interpret. Play around with the idea in your head. How can you implement this into your game? That's up to you to decide. The main thing I want out of this is finished games. I myself struggle with the scope of my projects, it's a skill that needs to be practiced, so let's practice it!Any and all of this is subject to change, check the anchor for updates. This is a community thing, so if any of you have opinions or disagree on anything, please let me know!Art by wapamario63>LinksItch: https://itch.io/jam/mlpcon-game-jam-no-movmentEmail: littlehorseappreciator@proton.me
ANCHOR
FAQ:>When's and where is the showcase going to be streamedAt /mlp/con. Sunday July 12th. The time? No idea, I don't remember. Keep up with the /mlp/con thread! Check the anchor for when I remember and post it>How long will the stream be?Maybe 4-5 hours. We'll have a shitton of time.>Can I work with others to make a game?Yeah that's fully allowed. You can do it solo or in a team.>Can I submit multiple games to the Jam?Yes>Can I submit unfinished games from previous Jams?Yes, but specify on your description>What if I send the game in an email or upload it in a google drive folder? If you don't want to make an itch account, then you can. Give me instructions on how to run your game and we'll be golden.>Fuck you and fuck this I'm doing my own thingYeah, I guess you can, and we'll still check it out on stream if you decide to share it with us. But I recommend sticking to the restrictions. People find they're more creative when there are limitations!
I wanted to have a little surprise up and running by the time the thread was up, but I'm sure you anons can wait a little while longer
This is gonna be a fun theme. I already have a few ideas.
>>43294977why does the mare wink?
>>43295067Because I'm around.
I'm just curious. if you've made a game for a previous jam, what do the analytics look like?
>>43294931What's the thematic theme?
>>43295321RTFM
>>43295471I read the OP twice and it only mentions the restrictive theme and the itchio jam link has no description.
>>43295492That's it anon. That's the whole thing. Think up a game that matches that theme however you think it COULD work. Simple as.If you really need a visual theme, spring/summer since the US is going into that weather.
>>43295321>>43295492I think that the description might mean:>as agreed last thread, we'll be doing a [rotation of: A] thematic theme [first], and a restrictive theme[after that, switching between the two theme types between jams]. And now [, after the Horror/Edge thematic theme we had last jam] it's time for the restrictive theme. That's how I interpreted it anyway. But I agree that is is a little vague. But my edits would also make it a bit long.If that was even your point of confusion in the first place.
>>43295530Oh, okay, that makes more sense. I thought we'd have like a mood theme like "vaporwave" (as ean example) then a gameplay theme if we wanted.
>>43295530Exactly this, I've gotta stop posting these threads at 3 am
>>43295744>>43295777Some jams also have additional themes. The Godot game jam has a main theme, and 3 optional ones you can also use. Maybe it's something we can try out in the future if jams continue.
>>43295787Those are also usually 'locked down' as in you must stay fully whithin the theme, so there's not nearly as much variety in the finished games
>>43295787I never really liked these types of jams. They seem too restrictive. We can have a discussion about how the devs would feel, but I'm of the mindset that we shouldn't be too restrictive
>You cannot move ... forwards.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s5hoKVra6CU>>43289063
7 interested in less than a day. Nice
>>43295124Let Her In and Sleuth Applejack respectively. I wasn't proud of Sleuth Applejack and thus it was unlisted, so I'm surprised it has 70 downloads.
>>43296315Fuck man. That sucks to hear. I loved that game, I liked the humor and the dialogue was very enjoyable.
I think I've settled on the perfect idea for this theme. I'm excited to get to work next week. We're already up to 8 joiners too.
I can't think of a single idea for this theme. I'm dreading the jam starting next week. We only have 8 joiners, it's over.
>>43294931how 2 mak vidyo gaem enter sirch googul
>>43296315Wait WHAT THE FUCK?! That was one of the best games in the bunch even if the combat wasn't polished, and I played through it like six times to get all the dialogue due to how well the characters were written. Wish I had kept it instead of thinking I could go back to it later. Why are creatives like this?
>>43295124These are mine. I'm pretty happy with the numbers. Pony adventure is unlisted from search but you can still find it through the jam page or through my profile. The manor game is from the first jam three years ago so I'm surprised there's still some traffic to it.
Jesus of Nazareth bump
no movement? i ain't making no card game nor puzzle game nigga
>>43297756That's not what Ieant with the theme.I dunno, maybe you play as a nugget (limbless) pony. Maybe you have to stop every once in a while. Maybe you truly don't move. Maybe you HAVE to move but something is stopping you.The sky's the limit!
>>43297766alright that sounds fun. i'll join sis
>Movment
>>43297865'E' couldn't move in place in time
>>43297865I did not notice. It's forever fucked. I can't change it or else I'll also have to change the link , and I don't want to do that.Luckly no one else will notice... 0c0
>>43297865I'll be sure not include any movment in my game.
>>43297871I blame the bats stealing all the Es in the market
>>43297971>Surely this is a bad thing, rather than an opportunity for anons to form an in-joke centered around an innocent typo
>>43298104Nah, I don't really care. I've misspelled the Jam titles more often than not.I intended the "Luckily no one else will notice" to be read as "Now everyone's gonna notice", in a joking manner.I was gonna misspell the stream title as a joke, might still do it
Looking forward to gamares.
So far ten people joined. Not too bad.
>>43298563progressbeam
I can't think of anything, I need some ideas.
>>43298967>Anon got stuck in a trap of some kind and now he has to ward off hordes of mares by booping them>Horseshoe tossing game>Game about a pony having a cool dream (technically not moving)>Bullet hell where you play as a mare's snowpity dodging germs or some shit>Raven Inkwell's paper toss>Five nights at freddy's but with mares
>>43298967read >>43297766Could also consider the game Red Light, Green Light 1 2 3Maybe even like something NEEDS to be prevented from moving, and you're the thing doing that.
>>43298967People in this universe don't use their feet/hooves to move. They use teleporters or conveyor belts. We laugh at people who have to move using their feets, hell we even laugh at people who laugh at needing cars and broomsticks to fly, haven't you animals ever heard of beaming me up, Scottie? Peasants man, I think they even heard of spawning magical vines up a mountain so the vines carry them, imagine using your fists, digits, feet to climb a mountain, couldn't be me. Also the commander of a RTS does not move his fat ass, neither does any tycoon tyrant move away from his PC. He sits there and gives information to the hero character cause you as a player have far more important things to attend to as an adjutant ... such as yelling SNAKE SNAKE SNAKE and eating this hamburger. Also Eustace has the right idea for this jam with refusing to get out of his chair while he reads his newspaper.
My slow ass is finally getting around to playing some more of the Horror/Edge games. I'm having a little scramble now before we get another bunch of fun games that I will postpone playing.I just went through Glue, and it was a lot of fun! The classic feel of the pre-rendered backgrounds was very nostalgic and cozy, and the suspense and mystery were nice. The girls were well characterized, the writing was good and the jokes had me laughing many times! The first scares got me, and the parts with choices were properly unnerving. There's not a whole lot of player input. But that was fine, since the times that I was given the ability, I was scared to make those inputs. I liked it a lot!
I also took a trip into the dark and spooky F.A.G.G.O.T.R.Y.Right away, the artstyle, all the assets and the 3D world are all very cool, interesting, spooky and evocative. It's a big map with many interesting spaces, and the objectives and hurdles make you explore it a whole bunch. There are many funny jokes and things to find around the environment, and the factory is quite spooky, especially in the dark. However! I quickly realized that it has the classic porn game problem of: "Being beaten is the reward."The hazards of the game; the small random-colored mares that roam the faggotry, are all total cuties, and I love hearing them clippety-clop around, and I love their little pounce-charge-up sprite, and I can't get enough of their "Got ya!" when they get ya, and I love how they land on you you, and Ilovethem. Therefore; after getting a fair high-score, it quickly devolved into me just looking at them through the corner of anon's eye to trigger their instinct to pounce onto humans on purpose.I was also pleasantly surprised to learn that several mares can land on you at the same time. While it is very detrimental to ones score and survival, having them swarm around you while three mares press their hooves in your face and then proceed to pounce-lock you in place for several minutes was much more fun and... exciting than it had any right to be.Very pretty game. I stand no chance against small colorful equines.
>>43299173I remember Glue being pretty engaging for the dialogue. You probably would have liked Sleuth Applejack too for how well it nailed the characters and jokes.
