Looking back at "The Ticket Master," Twilight’s paralysis over who to give the ticket to doesn't actually make sense if you look at the stakes. She should have given it to Applejack immediately. From Twilight’s perspective at that moment, Applejack’s business plan was completely viable. Twilight didn't know, and the episode never suggests she considered, that the Gala was a strictly catered event where selling outside food would be banned or pointless. As far as Twilight knew, AJ was going there to do honest business and raise money for the hip surgery. When you compare the stakes, Applejack deserved the ticket the most because her motives were purely selfless and noble since she wanted to fund medical care for Granny Smith's hip replacement. Everyone else wanted to go for personal, superficial, or romantic reasons:>Rarity wanted to marry a prince she'd never met.>Rainbow Dash wanted to show off to the Wonderbolts.>Pinkie Pie wanted to party.>Fluttershy wanted to look at animals in a garden.Culturally, Applejack also has the strongest claim because she was the first one to ask. On a "first come, first served" basis, combined with the fact that she was trying to save her family farm and grandmother's health, Twilight's choice should have been obvious. The fact that Twilight treated a medical/financial emergency with the same weight as Pinkie wanting to party is stupid.AGAIN, IT IS FROM TWILIGHT'S PERSPECTIVE AT THE TIME OF THE TICKET MASTER EPISODE WHEN SHE NEEDED TO MAKE A DECISION. Applejack's plan to go to the Gala was entirely solid. Twilight wouldn't have known, and we never see her consider, that the Gala is already a catered event. Therefore, she has to choose between five friends when one of them wants to go specifically to save her family member's health and quality of life. Applejack deserved the ticket to the Grand Galloping Gala the most. Her reason to go was the noblest since it was to raise money to save family member's health. Furthermore, she was the first one to find out about the extra ticket when Spike revealed them, meaning she also wins on a "first come, first served" basis if we assume that everypony from the Mane 5 has a equally good reason to go to GGG.
>>43295056>So mad that he got BTFO'd by a foid of all things>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hx-gsJK6mpINo, she was right. Rarity should have gotten the ticket. Trying to make money by selling food on an event that is already catered for is retarded. That your best argument is just le first come, first served is telling.
>>43295072The discussion isn't about who should go to the gala, retard. It is about who Twilight should choose, and from her perspective, Applejack was the best choice because of her reason to help Granny Smith get a surgery replacement. The discussion isn't about who had the most realistic plan in hindsight. It is about who Twilight should have chosen based on the information she had at that exact moment. From Twilight’s perspective in that episode, she had no idea the Gala was already catered, and neither did AJ. Nothing in the script suggests Twilight considered or even knew about the catering restrictions yet. So, from Twilight's point of view, she was choosing between a medical emergency to fund a grandmother's surgery versus Rarity wanting to gold-dig a prince she’d never met. The fact that you think a superficial romance angle outweights a health crisis from a decision-making standpoint is what's actually telling.
>>43295056She should've just ripped the tickets up in front of everyone. That would've been based.
>>43295056Wouldn't Twilight have known the Gala was catered already? She lived in Canterlot for 20 years. Even if she never went or wasn't invited by Celestia then I'm sure she got a glance of it or two in all that time.
>>43295074Yeah, I wonder if the fucking annual event that Equestria's royalty and elite including their fucking ruler attend is catered to. Is Twilight really that retarded? Lol, also pathetic that the Apple family doesn't have a Royal Warrant even after their hundreds of years of being the biggest providers of apples in Equestria. Finally in Season 9, she actually got a Royal Warrant; congratulations, Twilight's little nepobaby. So should we only review her decision in context of the first three episodes or also what came after? Because the more context we get, the more retarded it is to give Applejack the ticket, but even only in the context of the first three... come on. I'm actually surprised they didn't kick out Applejack after pulling that shit at the Grand Galloping Gala and Twilight, being a member of the elite herself, should know how a gala works. Considering she didn't immediately give Applejack the ticket despite being the most emotionally charged choice, she actually might have known about the catering thing like the smart purple muffin she is.Twilight should not let herself get emotionally blackmailed by her friends. Applejack could have been an asshole and emotionally blackmailed Twilight even more during that episode, but she didn't, so it must not have been that great of an emergency, kek.Rarity won anyways.
>>43295105Twilight says herself that she can't decide who to give the ticket to because all her friends have great reasons to go, and she never once criticizes or pokes holes in any of their plans. Therefore, it can be assumed that either Twilight knew about the catering at GGG and just thought that AJ would still sell her products, because if she knew the catering rules made AJ's plan impossible, she would have just told her right then and narrowed her choice down to 4 friends. She didn't.Alternatively, she didn't know about the catering at GGG because she never bothered to pay attention to it. Even if she was attending it once or twice with Celestia, Twilight didn't know about the strict catering rules because she spent her 20 years in Canterlot buried in books, completely ignoring high-society party logistics.Or Twilight is plain old retarded.
>>43295113>Is Twilight really that retarded?Probably.
>>43295113>So should we only review her decision in context of the first three episodes or also what came after? We should assume that it is October 2010 and The Ticket Master has just aired. Evaluating a character's choice using future episodes that hadn't even been written yet makes zero sense. Anything that happens after Ticket Master, is completely irrelevant to the context of Twilight making her decision at that exact moment. You have to judge her based on the data she had on screen, not hindsight from later seasons. Also, anything post MMMystery on the Friendship Express is not canon.
The buffet mentioned at the gala being exclusive catering is headcanon.
>>43295191The common Occam's Razor ground is that catering is exclusive so the burden of proof is on you.
>>43295201It's never called catering in the episode. There are no more of my assumptions than your own assumptions to prove.
>>43295056Yeah that's cool and all but the gala ain't all that anyway, dyewts?
>>43295105>She lived in Canterlot for 20 years32 Actually
>>43295445I don't think Twilight is reaching MILF age that fast, nonny
I think spike is the obvious choice. He's been with twilight for way longer than the others and leaving him home alone is irresponsible.
>>43295449It's a conservative estimate.And it's nonna to you.
>>43295490You don't take slaves to fancy parties.
>>43295056I'm not going to read your reasoning, I will assume it's sound and valid, but do want to add that the option to send the ticket back to Celestia, with Twilight also asking Celestia to ban her and her friends and publicly announce such to all of Canterlot and its neighbours is one of the funnier, if sociopathic, options that we don't talk about nearly as much as we should.
>>43295512That's pretty funny Anon, but I don't quite understand why she would do that.
>>43295056She should give the ticket to me
>>43295517Because she's a 46 year old NEET who never had to make a decision like this before, she could very easily go overboard in the other direction than the show.
>>43295556Why the fuck is she getting older?Stop it.
>>43295512>Twilight gets overwhelmed by all her friends and eventually the town hounding her about the ticket, and not being able to get lunch, that she spergs out and eats the ticketProblem solved! Good work, everypony.
>>43295594Unironically, that's Lauren Faust's early draft of the episode.
>>43295594What a fucking power move. This should've happened. I love my purple sperg of a wife!
>>43295056To paraphrase Mentally Advanced Series- Applejack trying to sell food at a royal event was rather retarded. There's vendor contracts and vetting processes for caterers, on top of the simple fact that rich assholes think fried apple pies are beneath them.Applejack's cause was 100% just, yes, but Twilight also would've known her plan was doomed from multiple angles and just didn't want to say it.
>>43295636>There's vendor contracts and vetting processes for caterersProofs?>rich assholes think fried apple pies are beneath themProofs?
>>43295113To be fair, this was season 1. It wasn't until Family Appreciation Day that we had the weird disconnect between the Apples being landed gentry who own half of Ponyville and her apparently being too poor to pay for surgery.>>43295191>>43295286If it isn't catering then it likely came FROM the castle kitchens without any middleponies to pay, which makes Applejack's plan even sillier. Why yes I'll pay you for a bunch of street food at an event where I planned on not paying for food at all, genius!>>43295445Ah, a fellow ponies-live-a-long-time believer
>>43295638>Vendor contractsA logical assumption because real life big events have a ton of security and money involved, especially when high ranking officials are attending. If you want to assume Twilight is acting more mature and thoughtful than she does onscreen, it's only fair that it be extended to all of Equestria.>Rich assholes hate fried pieBlueblood literally gags onscreen and cries about his royal palate being ruined by carnival food after eating Applejack's pies. dyewts?>>43295564Granny Smith is at least 200 years old according to Family Appreciation Day. Maybe ponies just grow up slowly or have a very long period of adolescence?
>>43295639>landed gentry who own half of PonyvilleProofs?>likelyIt's more likely that Celestia let's any pony stroll up to sell food without bureaucracy, because she's cool like that.
>>43295650>real lifeEquestria isn't real. I don't really care how mature Twilight is.>Blueblood...dyewts?Counter argument in pic.
>>43295636>Twilight also would've known her plan was doomed from multiple angles and just didn't want to say it.This is just straight up wrong. When she was completely alone with Spike, she literally says out loud that all of her friends plans are great and that she can't decide which one to pick. She has absolutely no reason to lie or hide her thoughts in a private room with just Spike. If she actually thought AJ's plan was doomed from multiple angles, that was the exact moment she would have said it. The fact that she didn't proves she genuinely viewed AJ's plan as fully viable.
>>43295658>Landed gentryI exaggerate, I admit, but they are shown to be *the* founding family of Ponyville with close business relations to a successful retailer. They should be well off, if not outright nobility from the royal land grant.>Celestia's cool like thatShe is. And the throngs of sycophants she surrounds herself with are not- the fact that they all but force her to throw this terrible party every year is WHY she was so chill with Twilight and her friends wrecking it.>>43295664>Equestria isn't realIf you're not willing to think about any implications or make any assumptions about what the show doesn't show, then why argue at all? The episode happened how it happened because that's how it happened.>LikelyThe wonderbolts were based on the Blue Angels air show; he's effectively a soldier dragged to a formal event, there's no world in which he'd be too good to enjoy pit.>>43295667Alright, I have no counter to that.
>>43295705>They should be well off, if not outright nobility from the royal land grant.Maybe if they kept slaves and serfs to profit off of, or had any power to claim the free land. Most earth ponies are simple folk. They came, they farmed the land they could, and they let their growing community take care of the rest.>why argue at all?I am making implications and assumptions based on a work of fiction. Why are you arguing against that? It did indeed happen how it happened.>dragged to a formal eventThe Wonderbolts are high flying celebrities rubbing elbows with elites. This is a moved goal post to separate them from "rich assholes", not to mention Celestia eating apple slice cupcakes at Sugarcube Corner and Applejack having baked for Cadence's wedding. Blueblood is just a bitch that might not even be a prince.
>>43295286Sorry, but any further discussion is impossible if you don't acknowledge that the burden of proof is on you.
>>43295759Likewise.
>>43295056I swear I've seen this exact argument on Twitter yesterday.
Bump for apple.
>>43295499>You don't take slaves to fancy parties.I never leave the house without my nomenclator, I paid a good amount of denarii for him.
>>43295757>This is a moved goal post to separate them from "rich assholes"NTA, but no? Do you have no concept of upward mobility? Soarin might be uppercrust but he could just as easily be lower class who got into the Wonderbolts due to merit.>not to mention Celestia eating apple slice cupcakes at Sugarcube Corner and Applejack having baked for Cadence's weddingApplejack was asked to provide catering to the wedding, and the Cakes were catering at Sugarcube Corner. Yes, Celestia probably wouldn't have minded AJ's food, but I fail to see how this is relevant to the gala.
>>43296458Erm, yes?? Do you have no concept wealth's corruption? If upward mobility is now on the table, then over half the aristocracy at the gala could share Soarin's tastes. Fancy Pants enjoys what's charmingly rustic.>Applejack was asked to provide catering to the weddingA royal wedding. With nobility.>the Cakes were catering at Sugarcube Corner. to Celestia, a noble. You can't use Prince Blueblood as your one and only source to deny the plausibility that nobles would eat fried apple pies, while making exceptions for Celestia, Cadence, Cadence's court, and high status gala VIPs.
