https://strawpoll.com/xVg71270OyrI voted seasons 1-5. Seasons 1 through 4 are nonnegotiable for me. I can see an argument to remove season 5 due to its quality declining as well as the castle and Twilight's arc that defined the first 4 seasons being basically over, but it has many classic episodes (Amending Fences & Make New Friends But Keep Discord are easy top 10) and it was the last season where the original writers played a significant part. It can be fairly argued to be a transitional season between the golden age and the rest of the show though. Seasons 6-9 are not at all part of the golden age, the original writers were gone and the fandom had fallen off a cliff.
I've always felt Season 4 was a soft reboot in a sense. Like the previous 3 seasons happened, but the shows tone and structure shifted from every day slice of life stories to a more story heavy, action adventure style show. You could technically argue Season 2 started the trend, but it and Season 3 I felt had enough restraint so it didn't take away from what made Season 1 so good. Season 4 felt like the first season to lean heavily into that new style. Not that it was all bad, but it felt noticeably different from what came before.
The show was never good.
>>43297564Season 4 also feels like the first season where they were trying to feel contemporary rather than timeless. The previous seasons have references to pop culture but season 4's basically written like it takes place in America in 2014.
>>43297551I think this question has some "Buts" that need to be considered. In /mlp/, many close the line around 2013, while most of the fandom consider 2014 as the last great year for FiM, and some seasons started and ended on different years. While there were issues being discussed about the overall direction and quality of certain episodes, there was still variety for most people and a few things to get excited about (the 2017 movie and the 100th episode).Season 5 is like a send-off to what G4 represented: The last bastion of old internet culture, the early 2010's and sincerity in fiction. The finale was practically a precedent for things to come in regards to how everything was going to get a whole lot worse.>>43297564I never bothered to watch season 4 back in the day because they only started broadcasting it in my region by the middle of 2014 and I heard mixed things about its quality before. Once I found a link to watch all episodes in order (I watched whichever it was on TV at the moment), I did it at a slower pace than most and I dropped it for around the second half of season 2. I'm not really sure why since I was still watching episodes on Discovery Kids whenever there it was on.I assume Twilicorn rubbed me the wrong way and shit spiraled from there, there is something about season 4 being a considerable change in direction from what they were doing, leaning more heavily on the continuity that made it lose some of the comfort factor that brought people in. No matter how fucked things get, some stuff will always stay the same. But now, stuff has changed and there's going back.

Seasons 1-5, I'm a MLP Protestant
i wish the percentages in the results were done based on participant number instead of total votes. Current results with percentage of participants to vote for each season are:Season 1: 84%Season 2: 80% Season 3: 76%Season 4: 64%Season 5: 56%Season 6: 28%Season 7: 12%Season 8: 4%Season 9: 4%My only surprise is that Season 6 is doing significantly better than 7
>>43297575and how exactly does season 4 of my little pony remind you of 2014 america
Golden age ends with Twilicorn and EqG.
Twilicorn was the shark jump.
>>43297774>>43297784Nothing after that moment really felt the same. People thought the end of the world would be 12/21/12, but they were off by about two months.

>>43297575>The previous seasons have references to pop culture but season 4's basically written like it takes place in America in 2014.Could you please elaborate on this? How does season 4 not feel timeless, and what about it feels like 2014 America?>>43297564I generally agree with this, Seasons 4/5 definitely have a different feel than seasons 1/2 (Canterlot Wedding and season 3 is the transition) but I consider it all golden era since I don't think the changes made the show worse. >he shows tone and structure shifted from every day slice of life stories to a more story heavy, action adventure style show. >>43298185Ad populum is a fallacy
>>43298204it depends on whether or not popularity is being accounted in the definition of "golden age". It's fine to consider popularity as a factor for that term as long as it isn't being used to directly argue quality.
