We do like to pretend magic exists when we go to see a bunny being pulled out from a top hat at illusionist show. Same with friendship. These are really just alliances that stay as long as they are beneficial. Anybody that believes and acts out real friendship always ends up being used. I guess it's possible for two suckers to be real friends to each other, but damn that's rare.My grandfather at 95 years old asked me why people are so distant to each other nowadays. When he was young the neighbours would visit each other all the time and play cards, help, assist with difficult tasks etc. Now everybody builds tall fences around their houses. A man from the city built his house near my grandfather's land and it took 3 years before they met and had a casual conversation. He asked me why is that nowadays.Answer is: grandpa's youth happened during hard times and communism. Even if you had money you needed connections to spend that money on useful stuff like cars, carpets, most stuff. Keeping in touch with people around you, being civil and having good connections was a critical survival necessity. Nowadays you only need money to get everything. It allows people not to give a shit about who their neighbour is, because there is no advantage to that. It just shows how thin everything is.But am I sad or lonely because of that? No. Why would I want fake friends? And fantasising about fiction is nice, but it's easy to not feel bad when you know it's fiction. It's much worse when things you covet exist, but are just not available to you.
