It sold out twice, once because the devs were too lazy to make their own passion project, and another time when some venture capitalists realized 8 year old girls don't play fighting games and boys aren't gonna pick up a 10 year old fighting game because Vegeta voices the gay deer. The current owner of the IP is an AI company that only picked it up because it came in a bundle with the rights to an Avatar fighting game. A patch that fixes game breaking bugs has been in the beta branch for 2 years but nobody at the company can spend the .0000002 cents to lift a finger and click publish.

NTA, but the first story chapter is well done... but that's all there is for the story. If you like Arizona then it may be enjoyable to go through, but the lack of any further story makes it depressing.

It's really up to you. The game has fantastic music and visuals and the tutorial is one of the best ones in any fighting game, so much so that it introduced many people to the genre as a whole. Anyone still playing online though is a veteran and you'll only consistently find matches by scheduling them in discords. If you're new to fighting games people will eagerly teach you so you can get better but you have to deal with getting your ass kicked until you can fend for yourself. I guess every sale of the game indicates consumer interest, so there's always a chance the publisher will look into expanding the game, but right now they are currently focused on the Avatar game.

it's worth 5-10$ in its current state just to fuck around with and play the one chapter of story mode they finished, especially if you've got someone to play it with it's still a really fun game that feels good to move around and hit buttons in. Pretty easy ~20 hours of fun in just messing around alone.
if you're looking for something to "get into" I'd pass, at least wait to see if the new owners do anything with it after they're done with the Avatar post launch stuff. Maybe pirate it if you just want to try out a character for a bit or something.

they bought it almost a year ago and have been working presumably full tilt since then, and it's still launching with only 12 characters, two of which are reskins and need updates post launch to get unique sprites, no real lobbies, jank unfinished training mode, no replay takeover, no CPU difficulty settings etc
