The whole thing really stinks of corporate meddling: Even though the characters existed before from previous gens, the Mane Six became popular as this exact group of six ponies: 2 earth ponies, 2 pegasi, 2 unicorns (insert Thanos meme). Removing characters from it kinda kills it's appeal and any reason to try the nostalgia pandering. Not saying that they should change the protagonists if they feel like it, but they didn't add new characters and the rest of the M6 are clearly back to their old roles and just by the poster you can clearly tell they'll retain their old personalities. This is the real reason. They just don't care. It's a "girl show" so any low quality trash will do it as long is pink and inoffensive. Its absolutely risk free for a manager to do this.

G4 feels so good because its a real show instead of a "girl show", made by a showrunner who gave a shit, someone who was actually invested in it and tried to give it some depth, things that just feel they progress rationally and just make sense. She also took famous songs for references(Art of the dress, etc), reached back to the 80s show for inspiration and made it have some action adventure elements, some fantasy elements, some monsters etc. It just felt right for the show and made the world feel larger, more lived in, something to be learned about and invested in. This is how G4 even blew up during the first few episodes. The production quality was so fucking high, it exceeded the pink, sugary "girl show" expectations so hard that in itself became funny and people watched it out of curiosity.

This won't happen with the ,makers of G5 or G6(or even the makers of late G4), who were utterly derisive and ashamed of the products they were making, they saw it as a "girl show", something embarrassing, a product to be quickly chopped out without care. They all saw themselves deserving to be moving on and doing bigger and better things than just a "girl show". They saw their own product as crap and the audience as losers for wanting to get invested in it. No fucking way this attitude makes anything of worth.

So far things aren't looking good for the target demographic either, when I asked my older kid this morning how she feels about the new designs after sleeping on it, instead of saying "they look weird" like last night, she said she thinks "they look terrible" and she "hates them." Very strong words from a kid who is usually mild. This is an 8 year old who loves FiM and EqG. The kids even specifically grabbed AJ and Rarity plushies to sleep with last night because it upset them so much that they're being excluded. So Hasbro has failed with both the target demographic and the adult fandom, the only people who will enjoy it are slop enjoyers who eat up any slop because they have zero standards, and gooners who like shiny bright colors and makeup. I know it's still early, but after the recent reveal of Generation 6, I'm actually feeling really optimistic. Every new My Little Pony generation gets a wave of skepticism at first, but I think this one deserves a fair chance before people decide it's doomed.
From what we've seen so far, it looks like the team wants to do something fresh while still keeping the core themes that have always made the franchise special. Friendship, adventure, colorful characters, and a sense of fun are what matter most to me, and I don't think a new art style or cast changes that.
I also think first impressions can be misleading. A reveal is only meant to introduce the project, not show everything it has to offer. We haven't seen how the characters interact, how the world is built, or what kind of stories they'll tell. Those things are what ultimately make or break a series.
What excites me the most is the possibility that this generation could bring in a whole new audience while giving longtime fans something new to enjoy. Every generation has had people saying it would never live up to what came before, yet each one has found fans who connected with it in its own way.
I'm choosing to be excited instead of cynical. If G6 turns out to be great, we'll all have a new era of My Little Pony to enjoy. If it has flaws, we can talk did you read all of this you retard about them once we've actually seen it. For now, I think the reveal gave us plenty of reasons to look forward to what's next, and I'm genuinely excited to see where G6 goes.

I feel like I'm the only person who couldn't care less about aj and rarity not being in it or that having been the plan. Who knows what they're gonna do with that now.
