i wonder how maud would react to emo pinkie. would she want to 'fix' her back to peppy? would she relate to her more? nothing matters... except rocks........ this world is so cruel and barren......... except rocks... i think it would make a fun episode premise where at first maud is the only one pleased with emo pinkie while her other friends freak out and then just as everyone else accepts it maud is like no. put her back. and they have to un-emo her. but it doesn't work because emo is 4evr no matter FUCKING WHAT!!!!!!!

Like why do you think it’s not around anymore? Because it attracts losers and then people leave, there might’ve been value when it was first formed but then it got overtaken and dissipated to ashes.

are any real genreheads able to distinguish different niches for the different ponies? i think rarity is the most likely to be a more outfit-focused one (scene? i don't like scene and i do like rarity but i'll take the hit if need be). rainbow dash already sounds like she's been hitting skramz vocals her entire life. twilight is a thinker she'd probably be in the midwest/mathrocky direction... apple jack is obviously mixing a lot of folk influence in but i don't know exactly what that would sound like. where are the trve emos we need to make this work i care deeply for emoquestria and emoquestrians

First thing? We should always remember to look at scene LAST. Scene isnt emo. Scene is all about partying no matter how fucked up your life gets. Emo is about emotional vulnerability.

The emo fashion movement of the 00s and late 90s is called "fashion core". Worth exploring for rarity...it's similar to scene but distinguishably more "emo" in its gloomier and more washed out colours.
Cross & compare fashion core & old MCR stage costumes for possible inspiration? Hard to find good pictures of emo fashion online but googling "fashion core old emo picture" is helpful.

It's basically the normal "every man" emo fashion of Midwest & mathrock, with a slight "geeky" variation on it. Could be worth analyzing the two fashions to figure out twilight. The music of the early geeky-emos of 80s/90s worth reviewing.

the expert is in. fashion core works for rarity i think. she probably would be into the more theatrical stuff as well. i can't believe i didn't consider Apple Jack Jihad it was staring me right in the face. i was listening to in loving memory last night and the female vocalist literally just sounds like rainbow dash to me so that's more confirmation. really the only main ponies i don't have strong feelings about are pinkie pie and fluttershy and they're the most commonly assigned 'generic' emo in this sort of thing. my own provincialism would want fluttershy to listen to dsbm but we can't all get what we want
