Trixie using the alicorn amulet to try and beat Twilight is a great parallel to Luna becoming Nightmare Moon to beat Celestia. They could have bonded over their shared experiences and helped them grow as characters, learning to be okay in Twilight's/Celestia's shadow. Kinda like how they made Glimmer and Trixie bond over their villain arcs.
