I feel like the core problem with doing a season 10 set after the timeskip is any episode where one of the Mane Six learns a lesson will pretty much require the implication that they've spent the past 20 years of their life unable to learn that lesson, and that would obviously such for their characterization. So if you wanna avoid pissing off the fans you either have to exclusively do feelgood slice of life or you have to focus on new characters at which point you may as well just be making a different show.

The mane six completed all of their arcs in the first season and learned everything they needed to learn so S2+ just repeats lessons over and over again. It's a fundamental limit to Slice of Life shows, there's only so much slice of life to give for each character. That's why Faust staying wouldn't have mattered, she already hit the wall in S2 struggling to come up with lessons for a cast that already finished their stories in S1.

But again, that doesn't fucking mesh with cable tv or toy ads, just like Faust's original S1 26 episode adventure plot got shot down in favor of compressing the entire thing into a 2-part premiere.
