For those that do outlines for long stories, how in depth do you typically go when it comes to planning out scenes? Do you just give a handful per arc/chapter/section and figure out the rest as you write or do you make a short summary for each scene in said arc/chapter/section?
>>43416275I start by making a very general beat by beat list of all the most important moments of the story. Then I use that to plan out the breaks in chapters and the like. Then, I think about the flow of the chapter and what I want to cover, and write a more detailed bullet point list of how I want the chapter to progress. Finally, I expand that into a more detailed list by including things like specific scenes, actions, pieces of dialogue, etc. that I want to include.Sometimes, I'll make notes about how I want the character arcs to go.Then, I spend the next four years "writing" the story.I hope that helps.
>>43416275I like to think of what an author I respect did for what turned into a 30 book, 4 million word story.1) On one sheet of paper, write out a summary of each of the 5 primary story arcs. 2) Then, write a more in-depth summary of each arc on a different sheet of paper each. (6 sheets of paper total at this point).3) Then, when planning a chapter, write out a beat-by-beat outline of what occurs in the chapter *the day before writing it*. Adjust the general flow and so on here. This can take a sheet of paper, but may only take half a sheet. 4) The next day, write the chapter with the plot beats above in mind. (And before going to bed, write the chapter outline for the next day.)
>>43416275I do the general outline of each 'arc' so to speak, then I put what's inside each arc, and so on, and so on. It's all iterative.
Long time lurker, rare time poster. I feel like this thread is one of the best on the entirety of 4chan. I spent some months considering on-and-off why this is, but I think I finally came up with a satisfying explanation. At this point, there is almost nobody on /mlp/ who is not a genuine, long-lasting fan of the series. One could say that any pony fan at the current moment is a true, idealistic fan - one that keeps the flames of their passion alive long after they are no longer being given any sensor or social impetus to do so. Put simply, people on /mlp/ are serious about ponies, and people on this FiMFiction thread are serious about horsewords. I lurk on the writing general on /lit/, and while I have no condescension for anyone trying to create, that is a much less serious place. The focus is less on writing and more on expressing ego through writing... You can tell everyone there has a mental image of themselves as an elite literary author, and are trying to trace the steps to get there. That's all well and good, but it feels less serious to me. Whereas, nobody here on fimfiction has anything to prove, and is in purely in the love of the game for horsewords. Everyone feels like a serious horsewordsmith taking their job seriously and helping others with their job. I sometimes think about the future of /mlp/. It is probably not controversial to say here that Friendship is Magic is one of the greatest media properties ever crafted. It is not an accident that it inspired such a fervor and such lasting passion. I think I feel comfortable saying I love FiM. And it is, I imagine, this love that others feel similarly, that keeps them going years and years past any sensory input reinforcing that love. Each year it gets harder to maintain the same feelings absent reinforcement - new episodes, new movies, whatever. But because it gets harder, only the more worthier people remain. The community just gets more respectable over time. And this has led to this weird situation I have been pondering, where somehow this random fimfiction thread has the most serious people doing the most serious work on the most serious subjects to them in close to the entirety of the website. It's just because the only kind of person who would keep loving a pony show 7 years past its conclusion and over a decade past its peak is the kind of person who would be very serious.

>>43416275The most important step in writing fiction is to take your dick out of your pants. There is no other way to get yourself in the proper mood to write. The single most important step in freeing your mind is to free your body, and you cannot free your body unless you let your dick swing freely. You might feel embarrassed the first few times you whip out your dick at a coffee shop or a public library, but you shouldn't be shy. If you get any questions, just announce that you're writing fiction; then people will not only tolerate seeing your dick in public, they will respect you for it. Everyone recognizes that true creativity sometimes requires stretching the bounds of convention and taste, so displaying your dick marks you as an inimitable genius. Don't be shy! The more you show off your dick, the better your writing will be.
>>43414153>eventually you're going to fall out of the top seven slotsYou will, unless it's a pretty short mulitchapter, but you'll still stay in the top 7 a lot longer if you update while featured. I'd argue staying in the top 7 as long as possible is way more important than the bottom 3. You're not guaranteed to get in the bottom 3 if a few of the million word autism fics update when yours does and even if you do, the likelihood of new readers picking up the fic from one of the multichapter pity slots is a lot less than when it's a fresh, new story in the top 7.>>43415669Twilunestiadance.>>43415850Doesn't have anything to do with food, though. Thanks to the anons for the publication etiquette/strategy advice in the last thread. There was some disagreement, but my gut is telling me to go with a mix of both strategies. Each Act is roughly split into three sections anyways(due to POV change), so I think I'll have a release schedule of a chapter Friday, Saturday, and Sunday every week. This actually gives me a little room to make these sections longer than they were originally which I was looking for an excuse for anyways.

I have never read a single story that was improved by the addition of RGRE it is a purely negative force. The only people that like it are self loathing, horny, cucked, faggots & troons.
>>43418310Would you say you RGREt reading them?
>>43418315
How's your writing going? I just barely breached two thousand words yesterday in two writing sessions: Most was in one lasting just under an hour, and the last third lasting a bit over half an hour. It feels great to get that kind of speed, although writing Fluttershy having a panic attack is pretty easy.
>>43418310Alright I'll bite. I've never read any RGRE and always assumed it was just slutty mares cat calling HiE stuff. Is it not that? Horny, I could understand, it's pretty baked in. Self loathing-cucked-faggot-troons is more confusing.
>>43418587It doesn't have to me HiE, it's more like femdom mixed with the girls being femcels.
>>43418230I can't actually speak for /all/ of 4chan, and I don't go to /tg/ very often, so perhaps there is a great community there. As for /vg/, I observe some of them like the half-dead Katawa Shoujo general and the like, but the problem with them is that they mostly turn into lifeblogs for like the 3 people still there. It's more of a hangout than a like productive place where passion is turned into serious art. I do like when they broach more serious subjects though.
>>43418587>always assumed it was just slutty mares cat calling HiE stuffI've read plenty of stories that SAY they're RGRE, but they never do anything with it. The only one that was blatantly so was when Anon fucks Spitfire and Caramel finds out about it, and even then he's just going on and on about the matriarchy.
>>43418612That makes more sense. That's too bad.
>>43418587For me, good RGRE is where men are cherished as much as women are. Don't take this in a misanthropic way, but I think there really is a bad attitude in modern society where men are seen as less worthwhile than women, and particularly that sex is a gift from women to men rather than a mutual act. This likely is indeed simply because men have more lust on average, but it leads to an imbalance where it feels as if men are taken for granted and that men just have to right for the right to earn any sex or affection. I like reverse gender role stories, RGRE included, when they eschew this idea and depict a world where men are cherished as much as we cherish women in this world. And subsequently that women have to fight for the man's affection. It just feels nice.
>>43418587It isn't anymore, but Xenophilia should have remained the representative example of what RGRE means. It is a smut fic, but even there, the "slutty mare" concept is not nearly so absurd. Among the gender roles swapped is the idea that the mare should ask the stallion on the date and offer to pay at the restaurant. It's related to the mare/stallion ratio and the idea that stallions are rare and valuable feeds into your typical male fantasy. The way it's depicted in the story is that the HiE and mare put way more value on each other than usual, and it mostly works out great. And also him getting told he belongs in a kitchen. RGRE now means a H falling face first into E and instantly getting a harem. There are many other parts to RGRE that are a lot of fun, especially the notion that males don't belong in leadership roles (because and, when ponifying words, swapping man for mare and doubling down on it when the word being ponified has a strong male gender role connotation. Nodding to the simplicity and ineptitude of the show's male villains is funny, as well as the absence of any princes but Cadance's trophy husband and the effeminate Thorax. As for the confusing part, he thinks that if you are entertained by mares having reversed the patriarchy in Equestria, you must also think that women shouldn't be property IRL, and anyone expressing support for ideas like that makes him start shaking and spurting his programmed trigger words.
Rainbow Dash is a literal demon from hell and deserves to be sentenced to death.Fics for this vibe?
>>43418681I just finished a chapter "Goodnight, Demonslayer" with Rainbow Dash for this month's Flashfic:https://www.fimfiction.net/story/526921/36/
>>43418587The problem with RGRE is that it’s either misandrist dribble or a weird reversal where all females act like stereotypical men and all males act like either children or as brainless cowards. That’s where the self loathing part comes, at least for some men. As for the whole “cucked-faggot-troons” I assume anon is just using typical internet slurs, although I’d bet some delusional trans people fall into the whole man-hate category.>>43418652>he thinks that if you are entertained by mares having reversed the patriarchy in Equestria, you must also think that women shouldn't be property IRL, and anyone expressing support for ideas like that makes him start shaking and spurting his programmed trigger words.Holy projection. I can feel the seething coming out of the screen.
>>43418690I meant to say>The problem with *MOST* RGREI’m sure there’s some out there that don’t fall into any of the aforementioned pitfalls of the genre, although I doubt the RGRE is the central theme of the story.
In RGRE does that mean that Dash is basically a metrosexual

>>43418310I don't know how RGRE it is, but the herding lore in Rise of Firefly was interesting.>>43418587>Is it not that?I always assumed it was just a male fantasy thing. Look at all these femcels swooning over the chad self-insert stallion/anon. Look at how much the mares struggle to date. Look at the crushing social obligations mares have to get a family going. The herding thing is basically just one big harem fantasy spun up as worldbuilding. Rise of Firefly only really gets away with it by the stallion just being a supporting character and the herding being a small "family drama in a warfic" subplot to flesh things out a little.

>>43418970It is funny to see the generals that are 100% waifu posting.
>>43418587RGRE is supposed to be about Reverse Gender Roles. In actuality 90% of the time it's about a made up world where the gender roles aren't the reverse of ours but an entirely made up new configuration designed for the retards reading it to jerk off. It will feature things like mares teasing each other over how fat their asses are, and chiefly in most cases when it's HiE it will be about every mare in a 10 kilometre radius instantly creaming herself when the new male protagonist displays competence. When you point out to the writer that this is nothing like reversing gender roles, they will say "it's actually reversing gender roles as they were in the 50s" which is even more stupid. A woman saying "I don't belong in the kitchen" and being competent didn't get guys jizzing their pants at the sight of her. For that matter, a woman getting raped by two guys is nothing like an Anon getting "raped" (gentle femdom the reader can jerk off to) in RGRE. Fundamentally RGRE ends up being just a label for a strand of specific fetish content that has nothing to do with what the name would suggest but is still called that because the writers are a bunch of fucking cowards who need to pretend they're doing social commentary instead of admitting they're writing a pure fetish scenario because they're insecure about the things that turn them on.
>Want something to read at bedtime>Don't want to start a new big fimfic>I want trash>Go to Ao3>Finally decide it's time to see if there are good Yu-Gi-Oh fics>Filter out incomplete fics and anything under 20,000 words, sort by rating ("Kudos")>Expect to find isekai trash, "a new great evil turned up and we have to defeat it", and tournament arcs with custom cards>It's all mega-crossovers and smut>Check out the one high-rated non-smut non-crossover>It's basically a mega-rewrite, designed to reduce the prevalence of the card game>First chapter is in second person>Skip to a random chapter>It's all dialogue explaining why the rest of the huge cast isn't presentI forget how good we have it compared to other fandoms.
>>43419367Is there anything wrong with it being a label for fetish content? It's not like every genre label is a perfect descriptor. It seems to me that there is some projecting to say people use the term trying to do social commentary.
>>43419397You should go look at the comments of AID fics where he was claiming he was doing social commentary.

Budle has been stricken from the record and I will now pass the ball to the next guy.
>>43419449Why does it bother you whether something is pretending to be something more than a fetish or not? Obviously 90% of authors in the world are just writing whatever gets them off. I should think only the quality of the works matters not like external social forces like perceived pretending or not.

>>43420231The HIE genre is not for the faint of heart. It’s not just about sending humans into the world of Equestria; it’s about transcending the boundaries of fiction itself. Just as you wouldn't expect to stumble upon a Shakespearean play in a high school drama class, or find the nuances of a Tolstoy novel in a community book club, you simply cannot expect mere /fimfic/ posters to grasp and master the profound depths and soul-stirring complexities of the HIE genre. It's the apex of storytelling. Too intricate, too delicate, too soulful for most to comprehend, let alone capture in writing. The problem isn’t with the genre. The issue lies in its towering grandeur, which is just too monumental for the average writer. We don't lack good HIE stories; we lack the literary giants to pen them.

It's genuinely a bad story and the Daring Do one is better in every way, but I don't care as I only wrote it to clear the horror fic that inspired it from my head.

Meeting the other dream cat-turned-monstrosity in,>/FSBC/Do you like getting dream lore? I hope you do, because you're getting it anyway! As far as I can tell, this is not a crossover with anything, though of course it is only fair that it draws some loose interpretation from many dream-related myths and media. Puca/pooka with a 'k' reads weird, though. But! I ought to disclose my biases and admit that I love dream lore and love Trixie, so this fic had an easier time convincing me. Because the "dream stuff" is most of this fic's appeal. The story we get is fairly simple and you can tell where it'll go since very early on, and the characters are also not really in the front and center—no, instead we get a theme park ride through the Dreamlands and ponykind's dreaming-related magic. Thankfully, the author was good and didn't make it about infodumps, instead showing the reader all those pretty things and ideas that we get introduced to. So yes, I enjoyed the fic, despite it being fairly light on the narrative content; that wasn't the main goal here, I'm pretty sure.Still, I suppose a few words about the characters are in order. This rendition of Puca felt very appropriate, and I like how her fey nature was portrayed. It seems that reaching for Celtic myths is very often a great choice for pony fics. We didn't really get that much of Luna's character, but everything that actually was here also felt very appropriate for post-reformation Luna, earning the fic some bonus points. Trixie was... you know, I feel like the fic had gone a little soft on her when it comes to interpreting her post-S1 troubles, but I don't think she's OOC, and I cannot really disagree with this interpretation in a story that was supposed to be about more than just her issues. Also, chronically undersleeping to get more stuff done is so relatable, too. She's such a rookie. As for the OCs, I don't know if we're supposed to care for them. I didn't, not even a smidgen! But again, that's expected from a story of this size. You get the Dream Guard as a very nice worldbuilding element, not really the individual ponies. All in all, even though I'm once again rushing this post out at T-4 minutes, I'm pretty sure that, for me, this will be one of the stories, which I remember more fondly than most of what we read. It is very focused on doing the thing it wanted to do and manages to do it well without collapsing into something that's not a story. If you gave me a hundred stories about Pony+Luna in the Dreamlands (all of which keep to this one's level of quality), I'd die a happy anon. Oh, and the writing was pretty good too. Good fic, I dare say! Please clap!Next week, well, I suppose we can do The Nameless Days since re-doing the vote is maybe a little pointless given that the interest was there.https://www.fimfiction.net/story/583399/the-nameless-daysThe first 11 chapters next week, the other 12 on week 2.
>>43421996DNF. I opened chapter 1 and almost immediately said, "Wow, this is boring." The writing is about as dry and bland as one can imagine. I made it midway through chapter 2 only because it was a club fic, but it was a struggle. A struggle I wasn't interested in continuing. I don't think it's right for me to downvote it when I read so little, but there was nothing here I cared for at all.
>>43422082It was oddly frontloaded with infodumps, wasn't it?The opening quotes were fine, but that first chapter was the telliest infodump I've read in a long time.
>>43421996>Voting for a Trixie storyCouldn't be me>It's actually amazingHoly shit. Definitely surprising for a Trixie story, but it's actually about her fucking up horribly because of who she is which somehow seems to be a rarity. Puka is a real one for forcing Trixie to become a better mare. And of course so is Luna for promising on her honor to turn Trixie into the most humble mare alive. I thoroughly enjoyed Luna in this. Bossing around ponies in the dreamland is fun and I liked her mannerisms. In particular I liked when she had a rare moment of frivolity and made the joke about her sister and Twilight that caused Trixie to snap and then she just stared at Trixie till she backed down. Then going into her dream to find out why was great, even if completely unacceptable had Trixie not been a part of the dreamguard. Also entering the sort of time skip montage while Trixie was ensorcelled was great. It definitely gave the sense something was wrong and considering it never really mentioned Luna it was a great hint for puzzling out what was happening. Anyways I loved it. Trixie being forced to change into a better mare (not at the expense of Twilight or any other pony) is probably the only kind of Trixie story I can get behind.>a rock farm hired a unicorn>tuna peek>Like half the cadets are earth poniesI really liked the dream lore in this fic. That anyone and anything (not just ponies) can enter the dreamscape was interesting, and that other beings could live partially in both like they do or entirely within it. I like the idea that there might be a predator that exists in the real world but hunts at night in the dreamscape, although that might be pushing it to suggest it can gain anything real from doing that. Maybe it's an herbivore during the day lol>"you're upsetting the balance of our friendship."kek, this was a joke by trixie but it's the kind of thing I would expect of her to say seriously so it landed well in that it felt like the fic acknowledging how bad of a pony Trixie is>suddenly anime cat companion>Luna watching trixie meeting with her in a dream to find out why she had an outburst about Twilightkino>"Cultivate humility">Trixie gives all of her cringe to the catKek>Trixie finds out she's fucked>next chapter starts with a quote from a book written by LunaHoly kino, I liked the chapter intro's being excerpts from books that the cadets were studying. That was a great idea that worked very well and allowed for the kino build up to having the climactic chapter start with a page of wisdom straight from Luna's dreamwalking expertise.>"your mind and heart are your own, Trixie Lulamoon. Trust them not to the care of others, for that way Nightmares lie."Luna has a good amount of kino lines in this fic
>>43421996>instead we get a theme park ride through the Dreamlands and ponykind's dreaming-related magic.I love the idea of the first few days or weeks of the new dreamguard just being Luna teaching a bunch of silly ponies about the dreamscape while they all float around with no control at first. Especially when it's just ponies from all walks of life floating around with each other. I definitely would've loved a similar story but without Trixie, focusing more on the actual dreamguard or Luna, but I liked what we got too>Trixie was... you know, I feel like the fic had gone a little soft on her when it comes to interpreting her post-S1 troublesWhat do you mean by this? Didn't it essentially say she was homeless and hungry most of the time?>I don't know if we're supposed to care for them. I didn't, not even a smidgen!>he doesn't like small cute mares that care about their friendsNothing really happens to anyone other than Trixie though so I don't think you're ever really expected to care for them>>43422082>I opened chapter 1 and almost immediately said, "Wow, this is boring.">there was nothing here I cared for at all.Honestly kind of based for opening a Trixie story and immediately thinking 'nah, fuck this'
>>43422082I suppose if you don't care about the dreamstuffs then that could be true, but I can't really agree with that myself. I'd admit that it's a little heavy on the descriptions of the various places in the Dreamlands and some rules, except that I found them interesting.>>43422196>it's actually about her fucking up horribly because of who she is which somehow seems to be a rarityNo, that does seem like her usual role in fics. And Puka definitely didn't try to force Trixie, it just kinda functioned like a mirror and made her spiral. You're overestimating its decision-making.>I thoroughly enjoyed Luna in this.Yep, yep, I also like all of this Luna. Very fun, too.>>a rock farm hired a unicornThat's literally what she says in Magic Duel. That's a very famous quote! DYEWTS? It got sampled in some Trixie songs, too.>kek, this was a joke by trixie but it's the kind of thing I would expect of her to say seriouslyMuch to Trixie's credit, I think. She's aware of her flaws and doesn't 100% ignore them in the way she does at the start of most Trixie fics.Edit: Later you're asking what I meant by the fic going soft, and this is another example.>That was a great ideaYeah, it can be tacky if done poorly, but it was good here.>>43422209>Luna teaching a bunch of silly ponies about the dreamscape while they all float around with no controlSeriously, yes! It was so nice to read all the little scenes like this or seeing the Dreamguard grow in numbers. The perspective we get (where Trixie noticed those things happening in the background) was good, and I think I like it more than the hypothetical Dreamguard chronicles.>Didn't it essentially say she was homeless and hungry most of the time?Indeed, but that already hoofwaves most of her character arc away. This isn't a "fixed" Trixie (clearly, since she makes an error), but it's the Trixie we'd usually get like halfway into a Trixie fic, aware of her flaws and working through them. And the fic also gives her several positive traits that aren't OOC, but also didn't have to be there.>>he doesn't like small cute maresDon't forget the red-and-black OC stallion we get in chapter one. Well, "dark red and gray", IIRC, but I laughed.
>>43422235>No, that does seem like her usual role in fics.Yeah but usually others are forced to fix her fuckups or they have no lasting impact on her. Here she is singularly to blame and her life will never be remotely the same afterwards. And her fuckup wasn't something that had to be fixed, Luna simply comes in and savers her life, which was the only thing at risk.>And Puka definitely didn't try to force Trixie, it just kinda functioned like a mirror and made her spiral. You're overestimating its decision-making.I never meant that Puka actively did anything, they're just based for being in the right place and the right time and mindfucking trixie. Also Trixie's antagonist just being a mirror that makes her spiral into disaster is perfect for a trixie fic and another thing I like here. Use her own horrible character against her. And it's even funnier that it's from a completely sincere and simple creature who might've actually just been a benefit to a better pony who didn't have such negative emotions and ideas all the time.>Much to Trixie's credit, I think. She's aware of her flaws and doesn't 100% ignore them in the way she does at the start of most Trixie fics.>but it's the Trixie we'd usually get like halfway into a Trixie fic, aware of her flaws and working through them. And the fic also gives her several positive traits that aren't OOC, but also didn't have to be there.Maybe that's why I liked the fic kek>Don't forget the red-and-black OC stallion we get in chapter one. Well, "dark red and gray", IIRC, but I laughed.I definitely also kek'd at that
>>43422235No, I have to disagree. The opening is just bad. It's a bunch of boring infodumps. You have to care about lore for its own sake to enjoy it, because there's no attempt at an engaging plot or characterization.
Interesting idea
>>43422335Wait until you read LotR.
>>43421996Who is Trixie, but scuffed Twilight? Does that make this duo scuffed Tuna? Well, they really didn’t get close in this fic, so at least not here.I liked the Puka arc way more than the Luna arc. Luna was pretty flat in this story, almost exclusively a stern teacher and only briefly a worried and contrite one. The implication that she went Nightmare over a dead lover is also lame. Like everyone else, Puka reminded me of that cat from Madoka, not that I’ve seen it. I liked watching her grow as she consumed Trixie, the showdown between them, and I was sad to see her so reduced after being defeated. The trick of the dream happening over only two days really only felt like a plot hole when combined with Trixie’s dream about Luna apologizing for comparing her to the better mare. It seemed like the author reached the end of the two week stint and suddenly realized that Trixie would’ve died if left alone in bed all that time. It could’ve been solved by just putting her in the hospital on IV.My other complaints mostly revolve around the beginning. The Dreamguard students all seemed like a bunch of children. Part of it is OK, given they’re ponies, but I thought Trixie’s terror at just a whisper and eyes in the dark was overwrought, especially given that they were walking right next to the Princess of the Night, who had personally guaranteed their safety.>theme park rideYeah, this was good. Despite the Hogwart scenes, I enjoyed the dreamworld lore. I feel like comparing the worldbuilding disfavorably to Twilight's Plan, Apotheosis and 9DD, but those are exceptionally good and I'm happy to have this even in the same conversation as them.
>>43422196>>43422235Luna was OK, but I don't really agree with the profuse praise for her here. Annoyingly, I have to preface this with the clarification that I don't think her characterization was wrong. But I definitely think the fic did not show us her fun side. There were only some hints at her teasing the students, she hardly did anything silly at all. Now, she was in teacher mode the whole time because those are the only scenes of her the story gave us. It implies that she could've been more flashy in another context, which is good, but I think the two of you are overlaying Luna from other stories onto the Luna in this one.>the book openingsYeah, the fic does a great job with them here. For >>43372079, you could definitely add all the books mentioned in this fic's chapter openings to your list.
>>43420769Congrats! It's always great to get over that hump. Yesterday, I posted my first story in seven years.

>>43423602Right now, scene are chapters, so I think I'll try combining 2-3 and see how I feel about it. The structure of the story revolves around rotating POVs, so I'm uncertain if I want them bundled into the same chapter or cleanly separated.
>>43423287>it seems imprudent to think as much before you've even published it.I recognize shit when I see it. It's a worse story in almost every way, but I don't care since it's doing its job. The hypnosis stuff will be a lot hotter, however.
>>43418652After seeing you mention 'Xenophilia', I decided to read it. I'm 50k words in, and I'm quite disappointed with it.That's entirely due to its name, and the expectations it gave me.I expected the story to explore the physical differences between ponies and humans, and what it is about those differences that Rainbow Dash and Lero find attractive. In other words:>Fic called Xenophilia>Look inside>No XenophiliaThere's plenty of mention of cultural differences, but, Lero never expresses attraction towards any of them. When Lero gets told he can have multiple romantic/sexual partners he just shrugs, saying that he'd be completely fine with them being monogamous. If Rainbow Dash got transformed into a human and wanted a typical, human, monogamous relationship, I don't think Lero's attraction towards her would change. In fact, I don't recall a single moment in which Lero expresses Appreciation – let alone attraction – towards an aspect of Equestrian culture or pony biology.I just. Why title it Xenophilia, if there's no Xenophilia?!

https://www.fimfiction.net/group/50/the-writers-group/thread/575467/the-one-hundred-greatest-fics>(1) Let's start with the obvious: NO SELF PROMOTION. It doesn't matter if you think your own work is the greatest literary accomplishment; those stories are right out.>(2) No tales less than three years old. The implication "greatest" requires the story to have had a decent shelf life, with a significant number of readers...though there may be exceptions.>(3) Let's put some thought into your entries. Tell us WHY you think a certain tale deserves to be on this list. This is not only for the benefit of readers but also the individual authors; I've lost count of how many times I've seen a story with HUGE upvotes, but only a page or two (if that) of actual comments, whether positive or negative.>(4) Try to limit your entries to no more than three. IF you feel more are required, apply rule (3).
>>43423977What if Dash was the xenophile all along? Considering she never tried again with another stallion. I mean yeah, she'd still love him, but she'd also be measurably disappointed by how many of their favorite acrobatic maneuvers are now inaccessible.I do recall Lero specifically complimenting the (cartoon-based) physical strength and resilience of ponies for their size, and I'm pretty sure they discuss how generally nice they are.

I thought for sure it was some pure shonen power fantasy thing but it's mostly slice of life until the protagonist pulls some unhinged shit with flimsy justification and is forced to do damage control so nobody realizes he did it or thinks badly of him for it. It felt a lot more coherent before the clone kidnapping. The headmate thing is bizarre and pointless since it can only offer commentary until later in the story when it can bully Luna. It's sort of aimless but strangely less self-indulgent than a lot of HiE slop.
>>43425433Yeah the plot got completely derailed by the protagonist getting involved in scoots life and the clone shit. >>43429366That was one, yes. I remember it being a small plot point in other NMM fics, but never a big thing. Just sort of mentions.>>43429360That's what always struck me as odd about werewolves The light is the same. Is the moon itself that makes them turn? Is that the answer to what happens if you send a werewolf to the moon?
>>43429368>Anybody reading anything good?Yeah. I'm going through my backlog. Some fun stuff in there.
>>43429368The starter kit exists for a reason. They’re better than most but there are good fics not on there. Also check the old bookclub fic list, I haven’t updated it in a while sorry.https://ponepaste.org/11255
>>43429360I don't believe Equestria's Moon works like ours. See the opener of S4, when both of the celestial bodies are up at once, and the Moon is making half of the sky go night mode.

>>43427692Seeing Obama mentioned (>>43427711) suddenly reminded me of this fichttps://www.fimfiction.net/story/239224/obama-returns-to-equestriaI read it so long ago that I can't remember much, but I do remember it being insane.I spent like 10–15 minutes skimming through it, and these are some of the lines I came across.>Obama yelled, diverting attention to himself again. "I cheated on my wife with a horse and it's not that big of a deal!?">Rainbow Dash did a loop-de-loop. Pensively. "Actually, from what I read about politics in your world, that wouldn't actually be that un…">Obama shot her a death glare almost as intense as the one that finally got Obamacare passed. ->"Oh, come on! You'd be fine with this if I was a human woman.">"No, no I would not," Obama said. "That's Clinton shit.">She smelled Spitfire before she saw her. Spitfire apparently had the audacity to show up completely naked and in heat. Which was… well, completely legal>There were two big headlines: "Celestia Tells Pop Star Sweetie Belle Secrets of the Universe, Kills Her" and "Giant Fish Rapes Canterlot.">"Lawbook F Chapter VI Item 6," Luna recited drolly. "Unnatural acts between a pony and a lesser species are expressly forbidden.>The only exception to this law is if the pony plans to make a profit off of the lesser species by selling their semen as part of an energy drink.">Celestia looked wistful. "Ah, yes," she said. "One of the finest parts of the human justice system.">"This is a completely normal way for siblings to express affection," Luna said, licking Celestia's face.>The moon was keeping him alive. That was the only conclusion Obama could reach.>He thought Celestia was kidding when she said she was banishing him "to the moon, beeyotch," but she was indeed completely serious. He was on the fucking moon.>"Those weren't raisins in that scone you ate. Those were small bombs.">Twilight then proceeded to explode.>She had set a hard line on that. She wanted the gayest possible human male that had never been sexually attracted to a horse in his life. That was the only type of person she would be comfortable with.>Applejack's face darkened. "If I can't do this… if I can't fix at least a couple of these iPhones," she said, "I'm going to have to start selling my services around here in an entirely different fashion. I really don't want to do that, so I'd like to get a head start.">"Your ruler, Celestia, set this colony up so that it would have a different mayor every day. Currently, it cycles between three people: Donald Trump, Kim Jong-Il, and someone that hides behind a mask."
>>43429489>Spitfire apparently had the audacity to show up completely naked and in heat.Best pony just can't stop being best pony, can she?
>>43429428Equestria is flat and infinite like Minecraft and the sky is a magical dome shaped construct surrounding the known world meant to mimic the real sky. It was put there by discord for the lols but it was powered by hamsters running on hamster wheels so it didn’t operate on its own for very long. The unicorns then started powering it and used that to justify unicorn supremacy but they got tired of having to wake up on time and so asked stawswirl “I have to do fix everything myself because the ponies are retarded” the bearded to figure out how to craft the Ubermar- I mean alicorns so they could do the job for them and that’s why celestia and Luna raised the sun and moon and rule diarchs.

>once again easily doing over 1k words in half an hourI am once again asking why my stupid ass has so much trouble starting to write on any given day when I do so well once I actually start.
Any fics where a character is trying really really hard to convince others everything is fine when things are very obviously not fine?

Are there any good fics about Kirin?

>>43429203>>43429284Her helping the moon ponies farm is a plot point in ___, but she's intangible there so she can't grow the plants herself. After That Fateful Night is a fic with extremely poor characterization and a bad plot that involves NMM's eternal night causing crops to fail and the peasants to revolt. NMM and Twilight had been working on a spell to make the moonlight sustain plants better.Search results for Luna is a Harsh Mistress return a whole lot of farming, but I expect it's just by ponies under her command.
https://www.fimfiction.net/story/547716/midnightThis fic isn’t as bad as a thought it would be. The first chapter is a bit of a start and I initially dropped it there.
