LUNA'S GETTING A DELL
>>43416922It's sea swirl? Kinda?
>>43416948Oh shit I should have worn my glasses. Looked like Woona
>>43416922>>43416955>DigitsNevermind that's luna now
>>43416897How old is that PC?
>>43417540Introduced in 2007, mine is from early 2008 (RAM cover says 08.02.16).One of the few 4:3 laptops with SATA and a 64-bit CPU. The only others that come to mind are the ThinkPad X61 and T61, though 16:10 T61s were far more common, and they're essentially just a DDR2 T400 anyway.Dell made the D520 a year prior in the same chassis, but stuck to 32-bit CPUs. I had two Celeron models with no upgrade options due to a cheaper chipset, though on some models you could get lucky with a Core Duo. Hard to tell since you could end up getting a D520 with a Celeron installed and it could also support Core Duo.64-bit doesn't really change much here since it caps at 4GB RAM, so it's mostly useful if you run Linux. Though older Dells often had Linux fan control issues because thermal management relied on chipset drivers that shipped with Windows.Fun fact: it's basically just a 4:3 variant of the 16:10 D630.Dell also did AMD versions (D531/D631). D631 shares the 14" D630 shell, but the rarer D531 used a 15.4" 16:10 chassis, dropped the trackpoint, and kept S-Video.
Pinkiepad bump-ish.
iMac anon back.Good news, it bootsBad news, the recovery partition is encrypted so I wiped it in the recovery environment. I'm going to just go "fuck it we ball" and install Linux Mint XFCE on it via a Ventoy USB at boot. I shouldn't run into any major issues, right? It has a Intel Core 2 Duo clocked at 3.06GHz. As for ideas, i think media player is the best, hook it up to JellyFin or something and remotely play shows on it, dont need to connect a keyboard or mouse to it often if I can get remote play working. And if all else fails, it'll be a nice paperweight next to my IBM R40 from 2003 with a crashed HDD.
>>43416897Anyone know of any good mlp desktop icon packs? All i can find are ones that are just character snippets from the show or mobile icon packs.
>>43418715Ventoy has successfully loaded! But apparently Ventoy doesn’t like non UEFI Secure Boot BIOS environments, so I have to format my USB for GPT, then use my built-in USB boot writing tool to format the .isoSort of a shame since I really like Ventoy compared to Rufus since it has diagnostic tools and checksum checks.
>>43418780My stinkpad refuses to install shit from ventoy. It's probably for the best since ventoy has dodgy proprietary blob and all that.
>>43418780I have now booted into the install environment hassle free!I’ll finish up the rest of the installation, this is surprisingly smooth considering the hardware age and it being a Intel Chipset iMac
anti slide bump>>43418818 now has its linux installation done, takes ~2min to boot into it and it currently only has a ~240GB drive right now. I shall (god knows when I get the time) turn it into a remote media player.
>>43416897Ahh, a fellow Chad Latitude D-series enjoyer. May we forever mog the ThinkPad trannies.
>>43416897Ah finally, some people with culture
>>43419095>>43419153Hidden Dell SocietyI feel like these business Dells were more common in Europe than in the states
>>43419153>capitalized Starteither kraut or poorlack
>>43419168I'm blind
Stumbled upon this in my Lidl today, it's been like this when I entered and left, which is over 20 minutes. It's on every display.
>>43419174You vill use ze app
I need to get a dummy laptop to test Linux on. What do you recommend searching for these days? I have a T520, still serves me well to this day
>>43419185Why specifically a laptop?I guess if you want the cheapest you can go for, you could get a shitty chromebook and flash it with Linux, but don’t expect anything amazing.
>>43419185Avoid laptops with dedicated Nvidia GPUs It's a horrible experience for the most part, especially with Nvidia Optimus.
>>43419185With how everything is price wise, why not dual boot on that T520? Maybe even get coreboot on there?
>>43419185any chinkpad will do
>>43419189I like laptops. True though, I don't really care as long as I can use my music software on it>>43419270I considered that but I'm scared kek. Maybe I will just do that after all.
>>43419192>>43419383Thank you frens
>>43419745Eh dual booting ain't that hard, boot into windows, resize your drive to have about half as unformatted space, boot up your favorite linux du jour, get that unformatted space, give it a 1G partition as /boot and the rest for / and install as normal with that. That way you get two different bootable partitions, the windows one and the Linux one that way they're both fully independent and you can fuck it up as much as you want it won't touch windows. For coreboot it seems scary but as long as you have a full dump of the og bios you're good.
thread boop
>>43419828Oh shit well ill just do that then. Money saved, thanks anon
>>43416897>>43419095>>43419153do you niggas use these dinosaurs for anything else than taking photos to share online for (You)'s?
bought first ahhphone
>>43420309I really wish I could’ve kept my old 5S but Apple fucking hates (you) and will make sure it runs like shit so you buy a shittier new model.
>>43420309iPhone? You mean an iPone?
>>43420310I kinda wish they still made those with a home button or at least the mini ones. I wouldn't mind good IPS screen over giant OLED if phone would be actually usable with one hand. About 5S, I don't really think you can even use an android phone from that era anymore. I mean, modern apps take more resources than old phones can provide. I won't even start on problems with stock rom compatibility and alternative rom issues
>>43420310>>43420326Battery life on smaller phones was absolute hell. We have fond memories of older phones lasting longer on a single charge but that was due to significantly lesser screen time and the phones being limited to just 2G or 3G. My first LTE Android phone had only like 1500mAh and it was worse in battery life than a 3G 1200mAh smartphone from 2012.I think big phones are excused as long as they provide 5000mAh battery or larger. What sucks is that there's no real alternative apart from 6.7 inch displays.
Google/Fedex fucked up and sent two of the same pixel 10's. Second one isn't on my order history and it's been a few days without anything saying send it back.
>>43420449The google pixel has been doubled
>>43416897
>>43420309Why? I got an iPad for drawing and it's a pain in the ass to sideload apps compared to just installing an apk
>>43421235It literally won't matter in a few months.Android is planning to copy Apple and wall up the garden.
>>43420449Give it back Jamal
>>43420449GrapheneOS has been doubled!
>>43420449Do the right thing burn both of them
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zDdrub7reT4
>>43421903DOT COM
>>43421903I love him
>>43421356they plan to allow >>>>>>>>>>sideloading by forcing users to enable dev settings also you can also just ROM your system with Lineage or Graphene or whatever the fuck people use these days
>>43421356A mandatory 24 hour "security" wait to be back to usual isn't THAT bad compared to the iloader process, but googlel can still go to hell
