>>43452968so its called octet because theres 8 people. theyre at a support group for what the synopsis calls "internet addicts" its rly just ppl who are very chronically online for different reasons and wanna make an effort to touch grass but theyre compulsive and cant stop being online. each person has a specific reason for it so the first lady has a lolcow clip of herself and cant stop looking at ppl alogging her, the second guy is obsessed with gaming, one dude is fixated on looksmax dot org lmfao and his lyrics are adapted from posts on there too so he says shit like "chad" "stacy" etc. THIS guy i draw with anonfilly a lot is an ironically detached conspiracy type and his song is filled with references to 4chan, the creator left verified annotations on the genius page for his song saying "yeah thats my 4channer internet addict oc basically" so, because of the nature of the play, the author had to thoroughly understand online phenomena and added a lot of it to his musical. its from 2019 so some terms are super dated but still its funny explaining to people "this is my fav theater piece and they say 'LULZ' in it" LMAO.its by the same guy who wrote The Great Comet musical which was on broadway so he's more known for that one than This one.
