The Road is a sequence of events with no overall plot and no character arcs. Any one scene is okay, but taken as a whole, it's boring. Blood Meridian has the exact same problem but on a grander scale. The average greentext writer has a better grasp of plotting and characterization than McCarthy ever did. He's only worth reading for his brilliant style, but in large doses it turns into an awful slog.
