i know the bit is that they're singers, but it's a shame we never got to see the girls play instruments in the instrument movie. especially when they brought them back later for backstage pass. i feel like sonata would be on drums to emphasize her whole "retard who's competent when absolutely necessary" shtick, kinda like pinkie pie. aria would be lead guitar so there can be obnoxious power struggles between her guitar and adagio's lead vocals ("or we could follow my lead") and parallel rainbow dash being a bitch for half of rainbow rocks for no reason. that leaves bass to adagio which i think works since it would let her replicate menacing undertones to her solo vocals without needing the pendant, and since she could change key under aria unexpectedly to make aria sound like she can't play. also cause i think it's a bassline under the builds in welcome to the show and it makes sense for adagio to play first. or maybe they wouldn't play traditional instruments at all and it would be like trixie's friends on the fuckass drum machines

I don't really care about having sex with the Dazzlings, but i want to know, do they have sex with each other? Does Adagio get mad when her background singers are too busy horning around off the clock to scheme to get their powers back? Or is she just mad that they don't invite her?
>>
>>43448196
if they are adagio is definitely not involved and it's just aria touching sonata funny as a power play. no joy in the entire affair. horrible sharp nails in a broom closet before the show and fuming across a table after
>>
>>43448104
Their voices are their instruments. I think it fits. Plus I like the idea of their gems or possibly their magic enhanced voices mimicking the instruments for the backing tracks we hear in their songs. Either that or it’s funny to think about them using some kind of software to make their tracks. And it’s a skill that carried over to even after they lose their voices.
>>43448196
>do they have sex with each other?
All the time. They fuck as much as they fight, sometimes at the same time.
>Does Adagio get mad when her background singers are too busy horning around off the clock to scheme to get their powers back?
Probably similarly to how we see her getting angry at them for goofing off during their schemes.
>Or is she just mad that they don't invite her?
It’s lonely at the top sometimes… But someone has to keep a cool head and stay in control, otherwise they’d all devolve into violence and debauchery.
>>
>>43448196
>Do they have sex with each other
>>43448332
>all the time
Agreed.
There's the autistic headcanon angle with the Siren pack, so one could extrapolate they fuck as a bonding ritual or to re-establish the hierarchy(maybe Adagio pegs them and makes Sonata eat her pussy and Aria eat her ass or something);
Or, you could forgo all of the pack shit and just go
>Well, they're Sirens, and with them feeling(and being to be honest) wholly superior to these ape-men around them,
>So from one of their point of views,
>Why would you bother using one of them when you have creatures that are, quite literally, magical manifestations of beings meant to physically attract prey to their death as your sisters?
in the latter case it's kind of like going out to buy a frozen steak tv dinner to pop in the microwave when you have two juicy, real t-bone steaks already prepared at a moment's notice back at home.

I see it more like Sonata and Aria take turns between Aria bullying Sonata in some weird sexual direction and Sonata pestering Aria for attention which she gives her the bare minimum of. And Adagio is pulling her hair out the whole time.

Also,

i like the idea of them having to learn production after losing their magic. adagio definitely has the brains for it but she'd HATE having to lower herself to human technology to recreate what used to happen at will. also being unable to record and mix at the same time would probably drive her insane. aria and sonata could probably become decent producers too, if adagio would ever let them ("stop touching that! if you don't shut up i'm muting your track!"). i can see sonata entering flow state and showing off a lot of natural talent at the board if she got the chance. aria too but in a more businesslike way. or they could just hire human techies to handle all that and kill them if it doesn't sound right i hear that was what most rockstars did back in the day

>creatures that are, quite literally, magical manifestations of beings meant to physically attract prey to their death
A few threads ago I posted about how they were inversions of typical giant monsters since they don't actually destroy anything, the more I've thought about it, the more they seem like a clever inversion of typical siren myths. They also are more sympathetic than they initially appear. (this may just be me reading bullshit between lines that aren't really there, but bear with me)
Sirens are usually beautiful seductresses who use their looks and voices to lure sailors to their deaths. While our girls are undeniably beautiful and seductive in their human forms (especially to the humans they interact with, who they don't want to kill), their REAL forms, as sirens, are a different story. (except to people like us, we're appreciators of true beauty)
Equestrian sirens look like a combination of a horse, a dragon, and a fish(ha seahorse). To ponies (and most species I guess), sirens would look grotesque, freakish, and terrifying. Add in their size and ability to mind control others through singing, these girls never had a chance to be appreciated. Even if they started off with good intentions, wanted to be adored for their talents, it wouldn't take long to start resenting your potential audience when they can only run away screaming when you try to perform for them. It's frustrating to know you're talented but be shunned for something outside of your control. It would be maddening when that adoration is one of the things you need for food. A lot of people would find it tempting to make that audience that shunned them, fight each other and feed on the disharmony instead.
>>
>>43448598
Nice drawing.
>>
>>43449148
them being scary to ponies but beautiful to humans means being stuck in human world is better for them. and then they still hate it. they think they're starving but they're surrounded by opportunity that they're too busy arguing and too stuck in thousand-year-old ways to notice. it would be so easy for them to just be pop stars and have people like them normal style but no we need to Take Over The World instead. i think they're sort of on their way to realizing this by backstage pass but it would be interesting to see them grapple with it in detail
>>
>>43449056
They already do have the van. They probably spent all their spare money on that and maybe a secondhand laptop to mix with.
>>
>>43449172
they all have to sing into the laptop mic and it takes hours to make anything sound remotely decent and aria/sonata blame adagio for this

I do enjoy this angle.
There used to be an idea thrown around here that I liked, in sort of a dark way, where after having lead them to failure at the Battle of the Bands Aria and Sonata turn on Adagio like a wounded animal and start sexually abusing her. She then kind of becomes the pack bottom bitch. I think they started renting her out for spare cash and stuff too.
>>43448598
Fresh art? Good shit.
>>43448673
I think they would have to adapt and that would definitely change how they function as a team. Adagio's ambition having lead them to two consecutive defeats has forced her to reevaluate her positions as leader. Aria realizes she can't continue being so lazy and apathetic when she doesn't have her way. And Sonata needs to learn to lock in, at least from time to time, and focus.
I also like to imagine Sonata is an idiot savant with like their version of flstudios or something.

I don't know what it is but I think I've seen this, or a variant of it, in a pic on derpi or in a fic on the archive site.

In most of my stories Sonata is the tech girl of the group, and not just good with new stuff but like an natural engineering savant without losing her charm. She can take a toaster apart, fix it and then put it back together again in just minutes and then burn her toast anyway. She can clean a virus riddled computer, upgrade it into a gaming monster and then use it for nothing but watching cat videos.

She's also in charge of their budgeting and investment portfolio. Yes if you give her a 20 she'll spend all of it on something stupid like tacos or candy, and she absolutely cannot be trusted with the credit cards. But you put a degree of separation there and she get's Weirdly good with money and numbers.

But yeah, ditzy airhead but shockingly competent in selective things is a very fun trope for Sonata. Also remembering she IS a parasitic predator that won't think twice of taking advantages given, even if it's with a goofy, naive seeming smile.

>>43449404
i'm pretty sure adagio is the only one who can actually sing naturally without the pendants, which i think complicates the power inversion after she keeps fucking up. as soon as the others could conclude they don't need her to scheme, they DO need her to actually pay the bills, and she's presumably still smart and scary enough that they can't just tie her up in the basement. i like sonata as flstudios savant too! i can see having to let sonata cook being really difficult for the other two.
>>43449450
ohhhh yeah this is good. i always like the idea of aria and sonata both having strengths that COULD be super useful, but adagio is the only one who can add them up to get anything done. if you leave sonata alone she's just gonna blow everything on candy bars and cat videos but if you give her specific enough instructions that she can't fuck it up she'll do exactly what you need. the problem of course being that adagio is too full of herself to let the other two be useful very often.

You know what they say, give a Sonata a few loops and eventually she'll recreate Beethoven.
>>43449450
I do like Sonata as the techie of the group too. Aria is more of the mechanic/stage technician. And Adagio sees herself as above all that, she's the "talent". She writes their lyrics and creates their choreography.
>>43449474
>i'm pretty sure adagio is the only one who can actually sing naturally without the pendants
At the end of the movie she couldn't sing either, they all lost their voices.
Aria and Sonata do rely on Adagio for a lot of the scheming, but if she keeps sinking them even further eventually even they might put aside their differences and mutiny together.

Plot twist: they're not laughing at you. They're laughing at the picture of Sunset's orgasm face you took when you caught her in the janitor's closet masturbating to something on her phone.
Horrifying double plot twist: Sunset was shlicking it to various creep shots of you fucking Aria or Sonata in semi public places. Adagio isn't in any of them because she refuses to fuck you outside of the bedroom. You and the girls discover this unholy secret. Aria is ready to beat Sunset's ass while Sonata is weirded out but mostly confused since she thinks this means that Sunset must have a thing for the three of you.
This kicks off a hectic misadventure where the four of you must steal Sunset's phone and toss it into the local iron works to make absolutely sure these pictures are never seen by anyone else.

Their little fights and insults they hurl at each other in public is just a very poorly acted facade to cover up the fact that they regularly have the steamiest sweatiest dirtiest sex as soon as they get back home (their van) and cuddle up and act all lovey-dovey afterwards in the aftermath. Practically everyone knows this, but they don't say anything or call them out on it just to play along, Adagio just learned to ignore the sex smell that still lingers on the van even after sending the van to get cleaned (it was an extremely embarassing situation for her the first time, since she was the one to drive up to the car wash so it looked like Adagio was the cause for the strong odor and made her look like a sex addict, she didn't bother explaining but never returned there after)

I've personally always subscribed to her making up for her lack of book smarts with emotional intelligence and being the heart of the group, but I also like this as well. I always figured Aria would be the one into the technical side, if only because she would have something to occupy her time with when she's trying to be alone for a while.
Am very curious though, do you have a link to any of your works?

Aria's not bad with tech, like she can use her phone and probably build a PC with a tutorial but it's not her wheelhouse like Sonata's.
Now heavier stuff? That's Aria's area. Fixing and maintaining the car, building a stage or setting up lighting, even plumbing. Aria's got that practical handyman shit down.

Or you could flip it. I can also totally see Aria building a kick ass PC and programming everything herself or grumbling over a budget and bills. Just as well as I can see Sonata popping out from around a car hood or rolling out from under the van beaming with grease on her face. Both their personalities deviate enough to make the juxtaposition charming, they just deviate in opposite directions is all.

>Adagio accidently writes a late night lurid lullaby about her sisters' raunchy, toxic love affair while dozing off and listening to them rock the back of the van all night
>at some point she tires herself out and pass out over the draft
>wakes up on the day of the concert too late to bother checking and completely forgets about it before handing it over to her sisters in their next set of songs to rehearse
>tfw she starts reading it aloud to them while still half asleep and not realizing what she wrote
>>
>>43450516
I feel like what makes sonata work for either tech savvy or gear savvy is that she'd make a Gizmo. like you can imagine her making the van run on taco grease or coding a really complicated way of doing addition. the addition is silliness. whereas aria instead of making her silly either way makes her cool. she makes the van hit buck thirty on a residential street and hacks the mainframe to get the girls out of a speeding ticket. so like which is which depends on which skill should be cool and which should be funny imo.
>>43450892
I really like the idea of adagio being nerfed by sleep. like she can tolerate being hungry better than the others but the brain does not work without a whole waking up period and her eight hours or she does shit like this. the other two categorically do not understand this. being adagio is suffering

I’ve always loved the idea of the Dazzlings adopting a kid Anon. At first, they’re just using him for energy or whatever but overtime they genuinely enjoy having him around to the point that if they ever found a way back home they were gonna take him with them.

>Adagio is the mom of course. She’s strict, bossy and usually demands perfection. But she will “allow” Anon to give her hugs and cuddles becuase she loves being adored.

>Aria is the cool aunt that bullies him and treats him like an annoying little brother. But she’d also be the one that got him high for the first time. Gave him his first beer. And god forbid anyone beside her messed with him.

>Sonata is obviously the lovey dovey one. Showered him with affection and always watched cartoons and snuck him junkfood. She may have even given him his first Handy once his hormones start manifesting in a ill conceived attempt at “calming him down”

>Back when they first secured the van - nobody but Adagio was allowed to drive it because she didn't trust Sonata with driving, and she didn't like Aria having more roles in the group than whatever balancing scale Adagio uses to mentally keep the group cohesive.
>That and because Aria asked if she could drive, and she of course can't just *let* her have that; She has to fight her for it.
>A matriarch can't placate her underlings after all.
>So Aria hops on whatever social media they use in EqG land and gets to work, speaking to the thousands of fans to orchestrate a change with her voice, just as she would in the olden times before that wretched bacon-haired bitch ripped her ability to shape the will of the world away....
>Actually she just starts spamming, #LetAriaDrive" to what few followers they have amassed from the odd music venue here or there on every page they have after locking the other two out of them
>she set the passwords to 'adagiosucks'
>Adagio finally relents; Aria is now the designated driver of Adagio's Pussy Wagon
>She of course will come to quickly regret her decision - pic related -
>It takes only one high speed chase for Aria to fully come to terms with her lack of an ability to shit all over the world and then sing her way out of it, but that's alright, because as it turns out...

Savant Sonata is a cute idea, I like to think the Dazzlings never really developed any real skills since they could always just use their voices to get what they wanted, so this sort of thing is all very new to them, they're trying new things and questioning what they want out of life for the first time, trying to 'find the magic' in their new lives. Honestly I've been really tempted to write some greens/fics about them, stuff like Sonata getting into poetry as a new creative outlet to cope with the loss of her voice but I don't know, I've never really done anything like that, I just love the Dazzlings so much, bros

Either way seems like a recipe for a disaster.

this is roughly what i imagine the inside of their van looks like. Twin futon in the back, a rack of costumes that keeps falling in the corner, a trunk of gear they use as a shitty desk for their laptop and desk mic, and boxes and boxes of junk they don't have room or time to sift through.

the futon moves around a little depending on the vibe, and sometimes sonata pushes it up against the wall like the shittiest couch ever. Adagio keeps her bedding and belongings in the passenger seat because she doesn't trust the others.

>adagio dazzle signs up after the fuss has all died down. she signs herself up, which is unusual. no parent or guardian paying for this. it's not unheard of, of course, especially for super-seniors or dream-followers hiding from daddy's watchful eye. still weird. she's booked a prospective lesson for 4:30, after some prep school kid's 4:00. sun something. sunburst? flareup? boring kid who hates scales.
>adagio is exactly two minutes late. she does not look like a high schooler. her skin is perfect, but something looks worn down about her. it's in the eyes. she's dressed well and her hair must be freshly done to be so large, but she carries herself like she's poor.

I'm glad beyond words to see the thread this alive and thriving. I'm seeing a lot of anons who are thinking about writing stories.
My advice to you is this: Just do it. That's it. If you think what you've written isn't very good, rewrite it or post it anyway. We all have start somewhere.
If you get stumped (like I've been) and don't know how to progress the story, take a little break and come back to it later.
The most important thing I've learned is this: WRITE. EVERY. THING. DOWN.
Every idea, no matter how big or small, write it down for later. I've made a list of ideas for FORTY different story ideas I've thought of. I wouldn't be able to remember ten of them if I hadn't written them down.
(I've finally figured out exactly what I want that green I've been talking about forever (Dazzling Movie Nights) to be. A bad case of scope creep nearly made me abandon this one and start working on a different fic instead.)

>she doesn't respond. she bites her lip, then shakes her head. you turn back to your keyboard. we know your range, you say, we can work on that eventually. let's do some breath support. we're going to hold the first note for four counts, then go down the scale just like we did before.
>she nods. she's good at this one. you notice her tapping her hand on her thigh to keep time. she's not untrained.
>are you sure you've never sang before, you ask. she looks upset.
"don't ask questions. teach me to sing."
>you don't ask questions. take it up to eight count, you say, and if she runs out of breath it's okay. she hasn't practiced yet. make sure you're breathing from your diaphragm, you say. i don't want to see your shoulders raise, okay?
"i KNOW how to-"
>she cuts herself off.
"yes. okay."
>she takes a deep breath. you continue. her voice cracks at an earlier note than in the last exercise.
>as soon as it does, her timekeeping hand twitches. you see her dig her fingernails into her thigh.
>whoa, you say, i told you it was okay. let's stop for a sec. do you need some water?
>she nods. you step into the hallway to get her a glass of water. you hear a strange noise from the room, somewhere between a sob and a curse. poor kid.
>you offer her the water, and she snatches it from you.
"thanks."
>no need to be so hard on yourself, you say. tension doesn't help anybody, and besides, you said you'd never done this before.
>you tell her to think about the inside of her mouth as you try again. you do the soft palate hand-raise demonstration you've done a billion times.
"i don't have one of those."
>of course you do, you say, you have a mouth. you're a human person. you chuckle. we're all built like that.
>she looks at you like you called her a slur.
"right. i forgot. i'll... try that."
>you get her up another three keys before her voice gives out again. she swears under her breath.
>is she sure she's never trained her voice before, you ask. she seems to have high expectations.
"i..."
>she looks very nervous. her eyes dart around the room, avoiding you. she sees the clock, which is about to strike five.
"do not tell anyone i was here. understand? no one. i will see you next week."
>she rummages around in her hoodie pocket and gives you a wad of cash. it's the right amount for the lesson, but nobody ever pays in cash. it's all mommy's credit card.
>hey, adagio, you say, that was great. we're going to have a good time working together.
>you do not ask about her home life, although you feel like you should. you do not ask her how old she is.
>you do ask her if she has any kind of musical instruments at home. she tells you she makes music with the computer, sometimes. she's cagey.
>do the exercises we did today, you say, but don't strain yourself. we don't want anything broken. you'll see her next week.
>she opens her mouth to say something, then closes it, then thinks again.
"nobody knows about this."
>you nod.
"see you next week."

>adagio is back the next week. she looks the same. same tired, defiant expression. same off-ness in a way you can't put your finger on.
>she's clearly been practicing. she can do the eight-count version up to an F sharp. good, you say. most people wouldn't improve that quickly.
>she smirks. it looks a bit out of character with that worn-down quality in her eyes, but you can tell it's instinct.
>you do some more warmups. she's got a lot of natural talent. do you want to try a song, you ask.
"could we try one i wrote?"
>you're surprised, but of course you could try one she wrote. she pulls out a neatly folded page from her pocket, with notes scrawled across the front and back.
"i took out the... um. it's just one part."
>that's fine, you say, she doesn't need backup vocals here, or anything. you smile, she doesn't.
>she hasn't written out any chords, just a melody. you plink it out on the keyboard. it's pretty good. let's hear it, you say.
>the song is dark. lots of stuff about mind control, everybody adoring her. you notice that some lines are written as "i", but some have "we".
>this isn't that unusual. you get some emos.
>well, you say, you have a good grasp of melody, but it doesn't sound like you've planned where to breathe as you wrote it. let's figure that out so we can make it consistent.
>she takes a deep breath. you pat the piano bench next to you, and she sits down.
>she smells like burnt toast and hairspray. parfum de trailer trash. you don't ask questions, but you're starting to get concerned.
>you try to show her spots it could be smart to breathe, and she doesn't seem to get it. it's like she doesn't think she has to breathe at all.
"i don't have to stop here. that line has to go right into the next one or it won't work."
>what won't work, you ask.
"the spell, idio- the song. it, um, wouldn't sound right."
>she smiles disarmingly. you tell her that passing out on stage wouldn't sound right, either. she seems to weigh this over.
>she points out the rest of the breathing spots. she's a quick learner. you wonder why she's in lessons and not doing this via internet tutorial.
"because i don't trust people not to go through my stuff. this is easier to hide."
>you didn't realize you had said that out loud, and her excuse makes no sense. you hold your tongue and try the song again, with the new breathing spots. it sounds pretty good.
"would backing vocals still work at the end of the chorus? if i'm not holding the note."
>awful early to be worrying about that, you say. she needs to get her own voice consistent before she adds anyone else.
"whatever."
>she's about to close off again, so you ask if she has friends who want to sing with her.
"they don't want to. i said whatever. i told you not to ask any questions. it's 4:58."
>she hands you another wad of cash and leaves. you walk out of your office a minute after she does, and look out the nearest window. you see her walking away, on foot, to who-knows-where.
>>
>>43455208
>you settle into a routine with adagio. every week, you add a couple new exercises to her warmup, focusing on tone control and breath support.
>she clearly works hard outside of lessons. you appreciate this. most of your students don't.
>she brings you some more songs, all conspicuously full of holes. backing singers, you think, but you don't tell her to change the parts.
>she isn't perfect. she keeps trying to belt too strongly for the song and running out of breath. when you tell her this, she clearly holds back a lot of anger.
>she's getting more ragged, even as she gets better. her clothes stop being as nice. she wears a baggy hoodie more often. she talks less. she walks home.
>after about a month, you have to ask her if everything's alright. if her parents are treating her well.
"it's fine. i don't live with my parents. i'm not a child."
>well, you say, you're still concerned if everything's okay at home.
"yeah. i'm just messed up today cause my stupid fucking sisters were screwing around again and i couldn't get my shit together."
>it's the first time you've heard her swear. she sounds experienced at it.
>you're sorry to hear that, you say. are her sisters who she doesn't want to find out she's here?
>she pauses, as if deciding whether to trust you.
"yeah. they'd never let me hear the end of it."
>why is that?
>adagio looks at her feet, then tries the clock trick. it's far too early in the lesson for her to leave without making a big deal out of it. she sighs.
"don't ask questions, okay? you won't like the answers."
>try me, you say.
>she pulls a big, exaggerated cutesy face.
"i'm a two-thousand-year old siren from a magical universe filled with talking ponies, and my sisters and i had magical voices that turned strife into adoration, so a wizard banished us here with only magic pendants to continue feeding on the hatred of humans, but a princess from the magical pony world broke them and now we're trapped here, and it took our ability to sing, so now i'm fucking starving to death."
>you laugh. is she sure she wants to do music and not creative writing, you ask.
"yeah, that's what i thought. look, i'm fine, everything's fine. show me how to fix measure twelve."
>no, you say, we can get to that in a minute, okay? you need to know she's actually alright. you've noticed she walks home, and-
"shut the fuck up."
>adagio is bright red, and her hands are balled up into fists.
"i like walking. i love fucking walking. don't ask questions. i didn't come here to see a therapist, i came here to learn how to sing."
>you know how to sing, you say. now that you're fighting, may as well lay it out for her. you know she's had vocal training, you say calmly. she's clearly a musician. you don't know why she wants to hide so much from you, but for all you know she's just here for the ego trip. all you're doing is fine-tuning what she already has, and if she's going to hate you for that, this is optional.
"fuck, not you too."
>>
>>43455232
>what does that mean, you ask.
"you would have been delicious. but no, i guess you can't be around me without it happening. of all the parts to keep."
>you can be around her, you say. you sigh. you wish, you say, very carefully, that she would be honest about who she is.
"i was. look. i'm sorry i yelled at you, okay? let's look at measure twelve now, please."
>she looks like she's about to cry again. less angry this time. you feel bad.
>listen, adagio, you say, you're really doing a good job. i'm not worried about your singing at all, i'm worried about you.
"that's nice."
>she smiles quickly, as if to reassure you, then looks tired again.
"i'm glad you think i can sing."
>whoever's telling her she can't is deaf or evil. she smiles slightly, more legitimately this time.
"don't stroke my ego. fix my music."
>okay, you say. this is clearly not going anywhere. you know less about her than when you started, which is clearly intentional on her part. she sits next to you at the keyboard and points at measure twelve.
"i don't know what to do there. if i go up it goes out of range, and if i go down it ruins the melody."
>it's not out of her range, you say, if she keeps going the way she's going. you gesture for her to stand up, and play a chord a few keys down from her goal.
>it takes a few tries, but you get her to the note she needs to hit. she has to do it in head voice, but that's fine if she's singing alone.
>4:59. wad of cash. footsteps. tired eyes.
>>
>>
>>43455242
>the next week, adagio comes in livid.
"you told me i could sing. you made me look fucking stupid."
>what is she talking about, you ask.
"fucking measure twelve! going up! i couldn't get it loud enough for them to hear me and it fucked everything up!
>you begin explaining the distinctions between chest, head, and mixed voice, and are about to suggest a different approach, but she cuts you off.
"i'm supposed to be able to do this! okay? you need to make it look like i can do this!"
>she can do this, you say. why is she so upset? what happened?
"my sisters can't fucking know i'm taking lessons, idiot! get that through your skull! they think i can sing!"
>you ask her to sit down. she doesn't.
"this is all i fucking had! you told me my songs were good! fuck!"
>adagio, you say, the songs are good. she's still learning, and-
"no i'm not! it's been months!"
>it's been a month and a half.
"fuck, of course some pathetic human couldn't fucking fix this. are any of you good for anything? am i the only thing in the world who can fucking think on her own?"
>adagio. don't talk to me that way.
"i'll talk to you however the fuck i want! i'll talk to whoever i want however i want! i don't fucking talk to anyone at all, you stupid piece of shit, when i do it's important, and it's mine! you're mine! you have to be! you adore me! you think i can sing and you think i have a job and a family and a car my sisters don't live in and fuck in and you think i'm beautiful, right, you think i'm beautiful? you adore me, don't you? i fucking hate my life, anon! i fucking hate it! they take my voice and they take my magic and they take everything i ever fucking had and all they give me is a shitty van on the side of my road and a washed up music school dropout to teach me how to fucking be myself! fuck! i learned FL studio in a week! a week! i can do anything! i have to do fucking everything and nobody fucking cares! they don't care! you don't care! you only see me fucking failing over and over and over every week! fuck!"
>she's been crying for about half of this.
>she coughs and bends double before collapsing to the floor in a heap, sobbing. you aren't exactly sure what to do.
>adagio, you say, you're sorry. you're really sorry. is there anyone she'd like you to call? we don't have to sing today.
"i have to sing today."
>she talks very quietly.
"i am going to sing today, and i am going to do a good job. nobody is going to ask where i was. if they ask you, you will not tell them. you did not see me like this. you still adore me."
>you don't adore her, you say. she should stop talking like that. but you won't tell anybody she was upset, if that's what she wants.
"good."
>we can't sing today, you say, not when you're stuffed up. it'll just hurt. you'll get her a drink of water.
"thank you."
>she stands up and smirks. it's very fake.
"i feel much better now. you didn't see anything. i'll take some water, please."
>>
>>43455274
>you step out into the hallway to get her a glass, and see her slipping out of the door behind you.
>you'll see her next week, you say. she freezes.
"yes. okay."
>you aren't mad, you say. you don't hate her. you're just worried.
"i never said you hated me."
>she doesn't look at you.
>you know, you say, but you work with a lot of teenage girls and theater kids. they tend to assume you do until told otherwise.
>you hear her almost laugh.
"thanks, anon. you'll hate me or love me eventually. that's how it works."
>if she tries to leave without paying again you might start hating her, you say.
>she turns to face you, and you see how tearstained her face is. it's heartbreaking stuff.
"sorry. here."
>you ask if she still wants water. she shakes her head.
"we have in the van. it's fine."
>the van, you ask. you thought she walked home.
>you see her close off. her posture changes. one arm comes up to grab the other for support.
"i said it's fine. see you next week, anon. i'll keep practicing what we did the last time."
>you let her go. go home? you suppose so. you hope so.

>Does Sonata get antsy and start pestering Aria while she's driving? Or are they doing it while Adagio drives?
Aria is smart enough to not bother Adagio while she drives and she tries to prevent Sonata from doing it out of fear for all of their safety, and Sonata views it as a game where she tries to do it anyway.

Sonata and Aria share the futon, Adagio sleeps in the front cabin. Anon gets a blanket on top of a pile of trash
>>
>>43455299
I actually really really liked this, Anon. I liked what you did with the scenario, I thought the scenes were all great, the dialogue believable, Adagio’s character and Anon real. All really good.
My only problem is I wish you would have just wrote out Anon’s dialogue and stuff normally instead of “you say, you do, you this, you that” too much (You). Otherwise really enjoyed it.
>>
>>43456687
>Anon gets a blanket on top of a pile of trash
Outside.
>>
>>43456737
thank you! and noted. i think i have some ideas for how to keep it going and i'll format anon's dialogue differently.
>>
>>43456758
Sorry. Actually, if I might amend my suggestion, I don’t dislike your choice here as much as I initially felt. I think what I don’t like is just the constant use of “you”, but I don’t actually mind the way you format Anon’s dialogue as almost an internal monologue. I think it actually helps me distance Anon the character, which I personally don’t usually like in greens or anything really, from the story itself. I prefer the focus be on the characters as much as possible and on as Anon as little as possible.
So if I could suggest further, maybe something like
Instead of
>she can do this, you say. why is she so upset? what happened?
Maybe just something like
>she can do this. why is she so upset? what happened?
When I read it back again I actually like that Anon’s dialogue is not explicitly stated. I think it would also help some people insert themselves if their dialogue is jot already chosen for them and left more up to interpretation as to what he said specifically. Sorry if that’s confusing and not what I said at first but I thought about it some more and I think it was actually something I liked in your green. Maybe just try not to repeat (You) AS much. Instead just say say what Anon says and thinks.

>next week comes. adagio does not address anything that has happened besides music.
>she's closing off again. lots of fake smiles. she's laughing at everything you say now, horrible fake grownup-laughter. it sounds like she's on the phone.
>it's not your place to bother this girl, but maybe she should be bothered. you'll give it a few weeks.
>routine settles in again with her. you add warmups. she's doing 11-note scale runs now. her range is getting a little better, although she's still reluctant to go into head voice.
>she knows she can't belt everything, doesn't she? singing is athletic, but it's not a combat sport.
"haha, you're so right, anon! i'll stop being so silly."
>you wish she'd stop talking like that. you know how she feels about being patronized.
>her cutesy face falls apart instantly.
"right. i forgot you were smarter than that."
>she sighs.
"can you help me hit that mixed? i don't want to fully flip over there. it's going to sound awful in that passagio range."
>that's what you're here for. you go over the passage, trying your best to demonstrate how she can feel control in her breathing and her throat.
>she picks it up after a few tries, albeit with some difficulty. she looks frustrated at this.
>not everything is natural, adagio. we're training. focus your practice on this bit this week.
"fine. at least the song is good."
>you know her well enough by now to know that this is a question more than a statement, no matter how intensely she says it.
>yeah. the song's good. her friends will really like it.
>she does not thank you. you do notice that that week's wad of cash has a couple extra ones. you feel a little bit like a stripper.
>the next week, she comes in upset.
"i can't get that part right."
>sure she can. it's only been a week. show me what it sounds like now.
>she's really close, but she's straining too hard. she's trying to force it. you tell her this as sensitively as you can.
"of course i'm forcing it! i'm forcing all of this, dumbass."
>you ask what she means.
"you said it doesn't have to be natural. those are the options. either something comes naturally, or it doesn't."
>that's not true.
"well, it might as well be."
>she crosses her arms.
"let's cut it. cut it from the song. we'll just have a three-line phrase. i can change the rhyme scheme. it'll be fine."
>she doesn't have to cut it. with a little bit more work-
"i don't have time for that, okay? ...sorry. look, it's just... i need this ready to show people. my sisters..."
>she doesn't have to do this for her sisters. she can do it for herself.
"i do everything for my sisters anyway. it doesn't matter. i don't want to talk about this. start the lesson."
>the rest of that week's lesson is uneventful. you have to remind her to unclench her fists five times. you wonder why her sisters never come to pick her up.

>outside of work, you see a flyer for a local indie festival. it looks pretty shitty. mostly CHS dropout hardcore slop and one-person guitar noodling, by the looks of it.
>but hey, what else are you going to do on a friday night?
>you take a picture of the flyer, and realize looking back at it the next day that "the dazzlings" are playing. funny coincidence.
>at your lesson, you mention the festival to adagio. is she going? it could be a chance to meet more singers who aren't her sisters.
"i don't need you to help me make friends, anon. i wouldn't get along with these people anyway."
>why not? well, anyway, you're going to go yourself, so she might see you there.
>she tenses up.
"really? that lame fucking thing? don't you have a girlfriend or, or friends, or something? go do things with them. you're a classical guy anyway, this isn't your scene, right? so why do you care? do you just want to be around a bunch of teenagers, you fucking freak? i could report you for that. i thought you said to practice every day? how can you do that if you're dicking around at a festival? doesn't that make you a hypocrite? and besides,"
>it seems she does not want you to attend. you ask her plainly why.
"stop asking questions."
>some are unfortunately necessary. has she been working on that passage you've been talking about?
"it's cut."
>you muse aloud that you hope she's told the backing musicians about the change, or she'll be left with four bars of awkward rest. she curses under her breath.
"yeah. thanks. i'll fix that."
>she really doesn't have to do all of this herself. why doesn't she get her sisters to handle some of this?
"they're idiots."
>why doesn't she move out?
"don't ask questions."
>let's work on that passage anyway. it's okay if it's cut from the song, but it's good practice working in that part of her voice.
>she goes along with this, although it seems to be grudgingly. she's a very good singer when she's distracted from forcing herself to be one.
>you'll see her next week, or at the festival.
"i told you. don't fucking go."
>she gives you the cash and turns to leave. she really ought to get a ride home.
"whatever. i'll see you next week. thanks."
>>
>>43457068
>you decide to go to the festival anyway. she won't see you there, and you're allowed to have a life, actually.
>sometimes adagio gets mad, and she sounds sixteen. sometimes she gets mad and sounds sixteen thousand. it's very strange.
>as you suspected, most of the bands suck. nobody knows how to sing these days.
>a few of your old students are performing. they're a little more bearable. good to know.
>the dazzlings get onstage around 9. decent timeslot, far from headliners.
>it's adagio. she looks great. if you didn't know how tired those eyes were, you could be fooled into thinking it was an aloof affect.
>she's up there with two other girls. her sisters, you presume. they keep death glaring each other. every so often adagio looks back at them, and you see her shoulders slump a little.
>her sisters are autotuned to shit, very obviously. it's turned up to the point where it seems like an intentional production choice. it's hard to tell if they can sing or not.
>adagio puts on a good show. they're all going for sexy, and she comes closest to pulling it off. it's the quiet parts she's good at.
>she belts all her choruses. you ought to tell her not to do that. it works for a show like this, but it's not what comes naturally to her voice.
>her sisters do the backup vocals you could tell she was leaving out when she brought you songs. you wonder why she never just told you that's what was going on.
>there aren't any other musicians onstage. they're singing to tracks. you wonder if adagio is doing all the production, too.
>the song you've been working on comes up. you push a little further forward in the (small-to-medium-sized) crowd, hoping you're still far enough back that she won't see you.
>as the chorus hits, she does. you see her eyes go wide and her hands twitch. her eyes dart around the stage, checking if her sisters saw you. they both look exactly as they did before. she mouths something to you, but you can't tell what.
>the passage you were looking at comes up. she sings the three lines she said she would, and the backing track keeps going.
>she forgot to change that part. her sisters are just holding long tones there, and they're being helped by production anyway. they probably don't even notice.
>she goes for the high passage. hard. she tries to belt it, and fails exactly where you expected her to. her voice cracks for a few notes, then finds itself again at the end of the line.
>you see tears in her eyes. her sisters don't. adagio pulls back into a gesture that looks to the audience like an arm-opening gesture. you see that she digs her fingernails into her arms on the way.
>the rest of the song goes well. the audience claps. nobody noticed.
>you notice that she does not try to be seductive for the rest of the set. her sisters do, and look vaguely ridiculous. adagio plays everything straight. precise movements. her breath control is perfect, but her voice is slightly strained. only you notice.
>>
>>43457109
>the audience likes the dazzlings okay. there are bigger bands playing after them, but nobody throws anything. polite applause. a few people really like it.
>as the night goes on, you notice adagio's sisters mixing with the crowd. they seem to have found those few people, and are seducing(?) them.
>you don't know where adagio is. she did a good job. she should get to have fun.
>you poke around a little. a security guy tells you touring artists all parked their vans and shit out back (unhelpful point). he says they probably don't want people bothering him, but he also isn't making bouncer money for this. thanks, man.
>the dazzlings have a beaten-up old van that they've spraypainted green and purple. they're double-parked into the lot. the van is smaller than a trailer, but bigger than the cars of the local kids performing.
>adagio is sitting in the passenger seat, sobbing. you knock on the window. she looks up and yelps.
>you hear the door click locked. she yells at you, and it's muffled by glass.
"i told you not to fucking come!"
>you tell her not to yell. it'll strain her voice.
"like i fucking care. my voice is fucked anyway."
>you notice a pile of clothes on the driver's seat. it's what she's been wearing as long as you've known her.
>adagio. mistakes are okay. the audience didn't even notice.
"it doesn't fucking matter. i'm better than that."
>could she roll down the window? this would be easier if we didn't have to yell.
>she does. you can see her face more clearly. she's bright red, and her makeup is running. she doesn't make eye contact.
"i told you not to come, anon. you messed me up. i saw you, and, and, i don't know."
>she wipes her nose on her sleeve.
"i shouldn't have gone for the notes there. i shouldn't have fucking done that. it was stupid and selfish and i could have pulled it off if you weren't there."
>adagio, do you live in this van?
"yeah."
>do your parents know?
"i don't have parents. i'm not a child."
>everyone's somebody's kid.
"not me. i just fell here. i can't tell you."
>adagio, if you're running away from home...
"i'm not. trust me. i'd ask for help if i needed it."
>no she wouldn't.
"no i wouldn't."
>she pauses. you consider bringing up singing again, but she looks focused on something else now. she's staring off into the distance, a slight wry smile on her face.
"you don't have any friends, huh? or did you ditch them to come slum it up in the green room?"
>both of you are here alone.
"fucking loser."
>she's not here alone. her sisters are here.
"they'll be fucking someone in the backseat in a few hours and i'll wish i was. maybe it'll be each other."
>um.
"we're not blood relatives, get over yourself. we're just stuck together."
>you're sorry to hear that?
"i don't know, anon. i don't think you are. i don't think anybody is. we're not real people."
>of course they're real people. adagio makes a frustrated clawing gesture with her hands.
"i just- i can't. it's complicated, okay?"
>>
>>43457154
>it's okay. you don't need to know everything about her. just that she's alright.
"i'd be better if i could hit the fucking notes."
>she's getting worked up again.
"i mean, that's my thing. i'm the dazzlings. i sing and i write and i produce and i drive and i cook and i sleep in the fucking front seat. but motherfucker i know how to sing."
>she does know how to sing. she just needs to stop forcing herself to do it a certain way. it's not healthy.
"i don't give a shit about that."
>she should.
"don't be like that. you're not my father. i can take care of myself."
>obviously. but singing isn't like producing. there's no interface between the performer and the instrument. if one is suffering, the other is.
"wow! my instrument is in hell! thanks, anon."
>you ask if you could maybe sit down. it's getting kind of cold out.
>adagio shoves her pile of clothes to the floor and sits in the driver's seat. the door unlocks, and you climb into the passenger side. you notice some crumpled up tissues jammed into the door handle.
>thanks.
"yeah."
>she fiddles with the keys. you remind her that her sisters are still here, and she's not allowed to kidnap you.
"i know. sometimes i want to ditch them. see how they like it."
>why doesn't she?
"and then what? i can't cut it as a solo artist, and they sure as hell can't do anything without me."
>maybe they can. maybe if everyone talked things out, they could end up better off for it.
"i can't let them be better than me. that would make all of this a waste of fucking time, wouldn't it?"
>it would make her happier.
"lost cause, anon. lost fucking cause. thanks for trying, though."
>yeah. sure.
>you look out at the nicer cars. the windshield is dirty. you think it might be cracked.
"how old are you, anon?"
>you tell her.
"we're around the same age, then."
>she's lying. you can't tell if the lie is that she's older or younger.
"did you always want to be a music teacher?"
>not always. you wanted to be on broadway as a kid. it wasn't gonna happen.
"yeah, well, that's why you don't get me. i wanted to be a famous singer as a kid. you were willing to give up."
>it's not giving up. you're happier as a teacher than a waiter killing time until a big break that never comes.
>she tears up and acts like you don't notice.
"i don't have that option. i'm not going to half-ass this. that's what nobody seems to ever fucking understand."
>if she tries to do everything, won't that end up half-assing all of it?
"don't ask questions."
>she punches your arm. peace offering.
>do her sisters want to be famous too? is that why they're together?
"it's not the same. they don't know how to work for anything."
>because you do all of that for them.
"exactly. but they're idiots. they'd just end up hurting themselves."
>you could let them try.
"you could stop trying. you're not going to save me. more powerful people than you have already fucked me over."
>you assume she's talking about an ex, or her dad. you don't pry.
>>
>>43457039
>you do notice that that week's wad of cash has a couple extra ones. you feel a little bit like a stripper.

>>
>>43457190
>she looks at you, and you see she's thinking. you point this out.
"i'm always thinking."
>planning, maybe. she isn't going to kidnap you, is she?
>she laughs. it's her real laugh, much darker than her high-pitched teenager impression.
>she really should go back to the festival. it'll be another few hours of music, and she can meet people.
"make friends? you think i don't have any friends."
>she doesn't talk like someone who has friends.
"it takes one to know one, i guess. i don't have time for that shit. let my sisters run through the crowd. i shouldn't even be talking to you. i have work to do."
>work? she was performing twenty minutes ago.
"yeah. i need to cut that part from the backing track and change the presets so sonata's part doesn't fuck up the chord going into that last chorus. and the van needs an oil change, and that's easier to do when they're not here. and we're double parked so i need to find whoever fucked that up and deal with it. and-"
>she's allowed to take a break. but you can go, if she needs to deal with-
"no!"
>she grabs your arm, hard. her fingernails hurt. you pull away, reaching for the door handle, and hear the lock click again. adagio...
"please stay."
>adagio needs to let go of your arm.
"i'm sorry, okay? i'm sorry for scaring you. but i'm fine. just give me a few minutes."
>you can stay, but she needs to let go of you.
>she loosens her grip, but doesn't let go.
>you realize what's going on. she's making the planning face again, and it's at you.
"you like me, right? i like you."
>it's a power grab. it's not any different from her sisters fucking the fans. she wants you to remember her.
>you're not sure what to do. she's still holding your arm. it feels like she thinks she's doing it tenderly. she isn't. she's forcing it.
>adagio is hurting you. she needs to let go.
"it doesn't matter who you hurt, as long as you're the best."
>she mutters this under her breath. you open your mouth to ask what the fuck she means.
>she kisses you.
>it's aggressive. she doesn't seem to care how you feel about it at all. her nails dig into your arm again as her other arm grabs you by the back of the head. you try to pull away, and she pushes you closer.
>you're stronger than she is. after a struggle, during which she keeps going through the motions of kissing you, you manage to pull away. you go for the door handle, and it's still locked.
>she's shaking a bit. she looks confused. she doesn't say it out loud, but she's clearly wondering why that didn't work.
>adagio, that was not acceptable. you are her teacher. you are not interested in pursuing that kind of relationship, even if you weren't.
"so you don't like me?"
>that's not the fucking point. don't ever do that again. to anyone.
"anon-"
>does she have any idea what that looks like? she's a high schooler, for fuck's sake!
"i'm not a high schooler!"
>you don't know that!
"i thought- i thought you-"
>>
>>43457230
>you care about her. you want her to be happy. you don't want to fuck her.
"but you're supposed to!"
>what.
>she's crying again, petulantly this time. tantrum tears, angry and salty and half-snot.
"you like me! you said you liked me! aria and sonata have guys like them all the fucking time! this is how it's supposed to go!"
>fuck, adagio. she's supposed to be better than this.
"i'm not. i'm not! i'm not fucking better than anything!"
>unlock the door, adagio.
"no! you can't leave!"
>she clutches at both of your arms. you turn your head away from her so she can't try anything again.
"you were supposed to teach me how to sing! you were supposed to fix me!"
>that's not how it works.
"then i have to make it how it works! it has to work! i can't fucking live like this!"
>she doesn't have to. she can change her life without assaulting you.
>when you say the word assault, she lets go of you. she shrinks back into herself, looking terrified.
"you're not gonna tell anyone."
>you don't say anything. she takes a deep breath.
"do not tell anyone we were here. understand?"
>adagio.
"i'll fix it. this was a mistake, you read the room wrong, these things happen. i'll fucking fix it. you weren't here. don't tell anyone."
>she made a mistake. nothing like that can ever, ever happen again.
"don't tell anyone i fucked up."
>she's gone from molesting you to begging for mercy. it's upsetting, to say the least. you aren't quite sure what to do.
>you ask her kindly but firmly to unlock the door. she does.
"see you next week."
>her voice is small and plaintive. you shake your head.
>she feebly reaches for you as you walk out of the van. you hear her scream behind you. she's going to blow out her voice doing that.
>on your way back to the festival grounds, one of her sisters passes you, leading a teenage boy by the hand and giggling.
>you see the other one making out with some guy under a tree.
>none of the other bands are any good.

This is pretty heavy. It's a great green thus far, I'm really loving the Dagi spotlight. Consider me invested, fren.
>>43457581
Yes.
>>
>>43457243
I like the implication that because she has to be the mom of the group, she doesn't get to party and fool around like Sonata and Aria do. So her seduction tactics are not only rusty but come off as pathetic.

>>43457581
Either way, I'm invested. Though I want to see how messy the pathetic route gets
>>
>>43457039
>she knows she can't belt everything, doesn't she? singing is athletic, but it's not a combat sport.
Nice. Although it's sometimes hard to tell how much she knows about singing technically and how much she was relying on the gem. Although I guess it makes sense she would be doing research outside of the lessons as well, considering how frantic she is.
>>43457109
>sometimes adagio gets mad, and she sounds sixteen. sometimes she gets mad and sounds sixteen thousand. it's very strange.
I really like the way you portray Adagio like this.
>>43457230
>"it doesn't matter who you hurt, as long as you're the best."
Fuck, why did that give me chills?
>>43457243
Fuck this was really good. A side to Adagio we don't usually see but it feels so real. She's not used to being told no, not being able to control people and get what she wants. The desperation was palpable and dark. Really good.
>>43457581
NTA but pathetic feels in line with the green, she's got way too sappy and desperate there at the end. Which is hot in its own way..
Adagio must feel so powerless, what with being trapped in the body of a magicless human teenager and that being such a fall from grace as her true self. She must also hate him bringing up "her parents" and constantly trying to talk down to her like she's a child. But it'd be kind of weird for him to be super into it considering that's how he sees her, as a runaway high school student, and his own student no less, so I really like how you handled this.
I won't lie I wasn't expecting it to be this good. Nice work so far.

>>43457741
i think revealing the specific fandom this was would be basically contactfagging, but i was in this really tiny indie game community a few years ago where i hetslopped a really codependent older woman younger man pairing. that one had a happy ending and less rapey undertones but i'm using a lot of it for adagio here. and years and years ago i did a few short fics about the enchantress from shovel knight where i gave her that sad detached immortal thing. i might have a type

>adagio comes to your office at 4:32 on her next lesson day.
>she's wearing her hoodie, hood pulled up over her hair. you remember it on the floor of the van. you can almost smell that night, festival sweat and old crumbs and desperation. you are very uncomfortable.
>she's uncomfortable too. she lingers in the doorway for a long time, opening and closing her mouth repeatedly.
"hi."
>what is she doing here? you told her not to come back. you can't be seen with her after what she did.
"shut up about that."
>she has the usual imperative quality to her voice, but it's more clearly a facade than usual. she sounds like a kid playing dressup with her dad's work clothes.
"i wanted to just, stop by. since. i assume you need the money. even if you aren't going to teach me anymore."
>she's asking questions without asking again. she wants you to keep teaching her. to act like nothing happened. is she fucking kidding?
>adagio, that's not how this works.
>she picks at the stitching of her hoodie pocket, and you notice loose ends. she's been doing that a lot lately, it seems.
"sorry."
>she says it very quickly, like a curse word.
"i can... we. can still. i want to fix this."
>fix what? she assaulted you. she could have gotten you fired, or worse. mistakes happen, but she's better than that. she's smart enough not to fuck up your life for no reason. and what was the reason, anyway? it doesn't seem like she likes you very much most of the time. it seems more like she just wants to own you.
"i don't want to own you! i'm not a fucking monster!"
>she keeps saying she's not human.
"i'm just- i thought- i made a mistake. i just want to move on."
>but she doesn't want to leave. she came back. she wants something, doesn't she?
"i want you."
>no, she doesn't. come on now.
"i want you, anon!"
>she doesn't know what that means. she's just a kid.
"please stop saying things like that! i know what i'm talking about!"
>she sounds like an oil heiress and a nepo brat. part of you wants to believe her.
>you don't know what she wants, but it isn't to move on. if she wanted that, she could take her van and go to a different town. she doesn't like it here. she doesn't have any friends, she hates her sisters. why doesn't she just start over?
>you watch her face closely. she screws her eyes shut. her fists clench in your peripheral vision, and you shrink back. she opens her eyes, and moves her mouth purposefully, one muscle at a time. she adopts a look of generic determination. she's a good actress.
"i want to keep working on that song. i know i made a mistake last time, but i think with a little more practice i can get it right."
>adagio.
"if i understood the piano part better, i could make up for the harmony change out of the bridge. the hard part. i could change sonata's note, that's easy, i could fix the descant too. i could make it beautiful, please, trust me, you're going to like it. i want you to teach me piano."
>you're not going to teach her piano.
>>
>>43457845
>she sits next to you at the piano bench, and you quickly stand up.
>you're not going to do what she wants. you're not going to sit next to her, and put your hands on top of hers, and let her lean her head on your shoulder, and forge a cute moment. you're not going to just make up. you're an adult.
"so am i."
>her voice is quivering. you can't tell if she's offended you accused her of something she didn't do, or if she's offended you called her out.
"i'll... i'll try it myself. i don't need your hands."
>she pulls out a piece of sheet music, more crumpled than usual, and starts trying to hunt-and-peck it out on the piano. she's terrible.
>you cross your arms and watch her lower her head as she stumbles over her own notes. eventually, her head hits the keys.
>you know better than to reach out to her.
"i don't want to give a shit about you."
>adagio.
"i want to leave. i want to take the van and leave my stupid fucking sisters behind and i want to leave you behind. you know what happened after you left? sonata was blowing a guy in the backseat for, like, an hour. she asked him if it bothered him that her mom was crying. he said it turned him on. i mean, these are, these are the fucking people."
>you don't say anything.
"i wasn't trying to use you, is what i'm saying. i'm... i know what i'm talking about."
>yes she was, and no she doesn't. she's known you for a couple of months for half an hour a week. she's paying you for your time.
"you... you..."
>she waves her hands in the air, head still planted on the keys, the dissonance long faded.
>she shouldn't say whatever she's about to say. it's not going to work. if she wants to be an adult, she has to accept consequences.
>she lets her hands fall, and just sits there. she looks like a corpse.
>with her hair covered up, she looks uncharacteristically small. you wonder if she's telling the truth, or if she has a family somewhere that misses her.
>you wanted to run away, once. go be on the big stage. your name in lights. all that shit. you tried, once, and your mom drove eight hours to bring you home. it makes sense that you and adagio wouldn't understand each other.
>listen, adagio.
"i love you."
>don't make this hard. you can't force it. you have your whole life ahead of you.
"i love you. why don't you love me? it would be so easy."
>her sisters will grow out of their issues if she would just let them.
"we could play music together. you could play the piano. i would sing. it would just be us. we'd adore each other."
>she can have that with someone else, when she's ready. she doesn't want you, she just wants anyone.
"stop ignoring me."
>she turns around and looks at you. her eyes are bloodshot. she looks exhausted.
"i came here instead of your house because i wanted you to touch me. i wanted you to go back to normal."
>is that a threat?
"no. i'm not going to stalk you. i'm not some fucking freak. i don't know where you live."
>then why say that?
"it sounded nice. sorry."
>>
>>43457858
>adagio isn't well.
"i know. i thought..."
>she thought you could fix it?
"i thought i could fix it. i don't need you!"
>you almost believe her. she's been lying to herself for a very long time.
>she starts pecking at the piano again. she plays the first few notes of a scale, and then sings them. she's doing warmups.
>adagio needs to get out of your office.
"come on, anon. i'll get it if you let me go up gradually. i'm bad at the piano part, but..."
>she needs help.
>she takes her hands off the keys and pulls her hood down. she's trying to be beautiful. big reveal. she looks the same as she always does. aged and worn and fucking tired.
"sorry, anon. i did a really bad job today, didn't i?"
>yes. you're going to call the authorities if she does this again.
"you wouldn't."
>you would.
>she sniffles, and neither of you can tell if it's fake.
"well, goodbye, i guess."
>she pulls the normal amount of cash out of her pocket and holds it out to you.
>you're not going to take that. this wasn't a lesson, and she needs the money to get out of town.
"oh. are you sure?"
>you're sure.
>she slowly puts the money back in her pocket and gets up. as she walks by you, she raises her arms as if to hug you. you shake your head. she leaves. poor fucking kid.
>>
>>43457869
>adagio does not come back for a lesson the next week. good. you do some research.
>there's nothing in the phone book for dazzle, not that anybody updates the phone book.
>one of your normal students asks you to sign her yearbook. you flip through surreptitiously. no adagio, and no dazzles.
>you look online for information about the CHS battle of the bands. you see a picture of her and her sisters. she might have been telling the truth about auditing. you can't be sure.
>she looked different then, less than half a year ago. less worn. younger, but also older. more sure of herself.
>you barely recognize her. the girl (woman?) in the picture wouldn't have come onto you like that. she wouldn't have been back in the van at all. she would have been ordering someone else to do that, by the looks of her.
>something doesn't add up about her. you're scared that whatever is going on with adagio, it's bad, the kind of bad you can't do anything about.
>you check the sex offender registry. no dazzles. that's something. you can't find a mugshot anywhere either.
>you look around online for her songs, and all you can find are concert videos taken by other people. she's never actually released anything anywhere. she's so desperate to be famous, to be adored, but she's never actually put herself out there in a way that anyone would notice.
>you don't have any contact information for her, you realize. all her payments were in cash. she signed herself up with only a name and a timeslot. it's not like she has an address. you curse yourself for letting a student fall through the cracks like this.
>on the one hand, if you never see her again, she could have gotten her shit together. on the other hand, you don't want to think about the other hand.
>it's not your job to deal with her. you're not saving some kid from the jaws of oblivion here. she insists she knows how to handle herself, and it mostly seems like she does.
>she is tremendously unhappy. you are unhappy, thinking about her. she's an open wound for everyone in her life, including herself, although that might be a category of two people.
>you ask some of your students about battle of the bands. they tell you the rainbooms didn't deserve to get to the finals, but they did a really good job there. trixie and the illusions had great sets, but they were assholes, so it's good they didn't win. stuff like that.
>when they bring up the dazzlings, it's only to insult them. cheaters. liars. they ruined a friendly competition and made it serious. they were mean to us. none of them could even sing.
>you have trouble squaring this with the adagio you know, but it doesn't seem hard at all to fit it together with the pictures you saw. something happened to adagio after the battle. she couldn't prove herself better than a bunch of random teenagers, so she gave up on life. it's very strange.
>you start going to more local performances. you should support the scene.
>>
>>43457876
>a few months go by. you never see the dazzlings perform, but that doesn't mean they aren't. you know there are gigs too cool for you to hear about. you're not exactly tapped in to the underground.
>things are uneventful. customers slow down in the summer. students think they can yell on the beach for a few months and not lose anything.
>you think of adagio fairly often. it's always upsetting. you realize one day that you've been thinking about what happened to her for longer than you actually knew her. you try not to think of that night in the van. it would have been so easy to give her what she wanted.
>it wouldn't have helped. she's never going to change. you usually stop thinking about it at that point.
>until one morning, a couple weeks before the start of school, when you arrive at your workplace and see the dazzlings' van in the parking lot.
>you look inside. the driver and passenger seats are both empty. in the back, adagio's sisters are curled up on a futon, both topless. you're not sure where adagio is, but you think she's probably in your office.
>she is.
"hey, anon."
>she looks even more tired than usual. she's dressed nice, but her clothes are dirty. she looks hung over, but that doesn't mean she is. you pulled your fair share of all-nighters in school, and you probably looked just as bad.
>you stay in the doorway, keeping your distance. what is she doing here?
"i just wanted to talk to someone."
>she doesn't specify that she didn't have anybody else to talk to, but it is very obviously implied.
>she brought the van this time.
"those two won't be up for hours. they won't know. and i don't take lessons here anymore, so."
>speaking of which, she has fifteen minutes before your first student gets here.
"okay."
>she scratches her hands against each other for a minute, not looking at you. then she does look at you, desperately, like a dog about to be put down. she keeps looking at you for an uncomfortably long time.
"thanks for not calling the cops or anything."
>sure. what does she want?
"i just wanted to see someone who isn't an idiot."
>surely she's tried talking to other people in the last three months.
>she raises an eyebrow.
"you know they wouldn't get it."
>and what is it that you get that nobody else could? why hasn't she tried?
"i don't know. it. whatever it is. i won't... i won't say the other thing. i know it, it upsets you."
>it does.
"do you still think i'm running away from home? that's been bothering me."
>you don't know. you haven't found any proof that she has.
"aww. you were looking. you do adore me."
>don't mess around, adagio.
"well. anyway. i'm not. i guess i just wanted to. not have you be worried."
>you do know that something changed after the battle of the bands. she's different now.
>she looks surprised and embarrassed. she looks at her feet, lifting them off the ground and leaning back on the piano bench.
"yeah. i was... i knew what i was doing, before then."
>was losing really so bad?
>>
>>43457893
"i... hadn't lost for a while, before then. well. i had, but not like that."
>not at music.
"not at music. that was, i mean..."
>that's who she thinks she is.
"yeah."
>and you'd been trying to tell her that it doesn't have to be.
"i don't usually listen to humans."
>she's human.
"i don't know, these days. i could be. i've been stuck here for a long time."
>you don't ask what she means. you do ask if she's thought about moving on.
"can't. this is all just my punishment. i know you think i'm great, but i'm a real piece of shit."
>yes. she assaults people.
"don't. and i mean, i mean before. i've been a real piece of shit for, for a, a really long time. i don't know. i think i'm stuck in this town with them as, like, karma, or something. i have to suffer for it."
>why couldn't she apologize to the people she hurt? wouldn't that be fixing it?
"they wouldn't listen. people hate me."
>she's such a control freak she wants to be her own torturer. you don't tell her you think this.
"except you. and that... i got confused. i'm sorry. i won't..."
>she swallows, and starts picking at the seams of her dress.
"i've been staying away from you. we didn't... i got our name off a couple of posters. we still got paid. don't worry. stop worrying about me."
>you never said you were.
"yeah, but... i know you were. that's why. sorry."
>how long has adagio been living in the van?
"years."
>and she doesn't have anywhere else to go home to.
"yeah. i can't... i don't come from somewhere i can really go back to.
>you get it. it's hard to go home.
"you don't get it. but thanks."
>she should try going to a homeless shelter. or at least a soup kitchen. or something. she doesn't have to drag herself through this. it's not helping anyone.
"it's fine. i'm fine, anon."
>she smiles.
"it's good to see you."
>you don't say anything. her smile fades. she looks at you with an unreadable expression.
"can i give you a hug?"
>you know better than to accept. she sounds like a lonely child, but this is how she gets you. she probably has her sisters ready to take pictures and spread lies about you so she can save you from it, or something. she has a plan. she always has a plan.
>you give adagio a hug. to her credit, she doesn't try anything. she just goes limp. you let her for a minute.
>she pulls away, letting her arms brush against yours.
"thanks."
>is she going to be okay? is she staying in town?
"i'll be here forever."
>you aren't sure what to say to that. she walks past you, then stops in the hallway.
"we have a set this weekend. we're the live entertainment at that burger place. you can come if you want to. i don't mind."
>you'll consider it. you don't want to push it.
"i know."
>she walks out to the van. it takes a few tries to start, then trundles out of the lot. you wonder where she keeps it at night when they aren't performing. you wonder if she ever gets to lie down, or if she sleeps in the driver's seat. you know her well enough to know the answer.

The good news: the girls finally have official merch and Sonata doesn't have to stay up all night making it anymore.
The bad news: they have to worry about bootleg merch now.
The really bad news: Adagio is gonna be chewing out that employee for the next hour for selling knock off merch. (And because the chests on the "Dagi Dolls" are "too flat".)
The really good news: Aria finally found the model train she's been looking for.
>>
>>43459157
Imagine how much the value of the Sonata handmade Dazzle merch will skyrocket now though? Probably like...20 dollars at least! They're collectables now.

The Dazzlings want to play the sirens in the Canterlot High adaptation of The Odyssey. How badly will that go? Especially when they dupe you into playing Odysseus.
>>
>>43459157
I like the idea that Sonata was making Adagio's dolls extra busty on her command, stuffing them with extra cotton. And when they get official merch the dolls are suddenly flat as a board and it infuriates her.

>you poke around online and find that the dazzlings' show is saturday night. you have nothing better to do.
>you'll go, you'll get a burger or something, she'll be reasonable. that's all.
>when you arrive, it's hard to tell if anyone is there for the dazzlings, or if they're just set up at a restaurant at peak hours. the crowd, if it can be called that, is all just people sitting in their booths having dinner.
>there are more teenagers than is probably normal. maybe they do have fans. not your scene.
>you get seated in a small corner booth off to the side of the small raised platform where the dazzlings will sing. a laptop, presumably adagio's is set on top of an amp across from you. it's open to a tremendously complicated-looking DAW.
>you wish you weren't so close to the stage. it feels like she could reach out and touch you if she wanted.
>the dazzlings come onstage fashionably late. her sisters come first, the blue one before the purple.
>blue looks at you, then smirks at her sister. you notice that her teeth have been filed down to sharp points, and try not to think about what adagio told you happens in the back of the van.
>purple leans in and says something, gesturing at you. blue laughs.
>adagio walks out last, hitting space on her computer on her way. it's a delicate maneuver, which would look accidental to most people, if they even noticed. you notice that she's doing all of this to a very careful eight-count.
>she sees you, and loses time for a split second. her first entrance is slightly behind the beat as a result.
>you're worried she'll panic like she did at the festival, but she catches herself quickly. you smile reassuringly in her direction. she looks away from you.
>blue laughs at her, but the audio doesn't change. you realize that it's not just only adagio who's singing without processing, but only adagio who's singing at all. you can't tell if this was always the case, or if she's taken more control.
>they do a decent job for their whole set. the crowd claps politely between songs, at least. adagio is very careful to start the next song even if the applause is still going.
>most of their songs are what you're used to. anthems of power and control. they rule you, it's their stage, that kind of stuff. probably popular with the youth, or whatever.
>there are a couple songs you haven't heard before. they're very different. songs about missing someone, or failed relationships. there's one that's very coated in a labored metaphor about fish, but which you think is about being lonely.
>you get uncomfortable whenever one of these new songs play. you don't want her to be writing about you.
>adagio's voice is about the same as it was when she stopped taking lessons. she still belts too much. she still goes for notes full voice which would be safer done another way.
>she keeps looking at you between songs. her sisters do, too. she adopts a look of confidence, but her fingers are nervous.
>>
>>43459829
>blue sister looks at you like you're a funny animal. purple sister looks at you like you're rotting meat.
>as the last song ends, adagio looks at you intensely and points to the ground. stay. you ought to stop obliging her.
>the crowd thins out. people who had paid their bills and waited for the music to be over trickle out. you pick at some fries. they're fine.
>the dazzlings come back from the hallway they entered from. you suspect it leads to a bathroom. they're in hoodies now, as if to hide from nonexistent paparazzi.
>adagio closes her computer on the way over, then slides in next to you. in the small booth, her leg touches yours.
>her sisters both sit down across from you. purple crosses her arms, and blue waves.
"this is anon. my friend."
>you aren't quite sure what to do. she's planning something, but you can't tell what, and nothing you've heard about her sisters suggests it could be good.
>you're anon. you're glad to meet them.
"this is aria. that's sonata."
>purple is aria, blue is sonata. okay.
>"hi, anon!" says sonata. "adagio won't stop talking about you! you're, like, her best friend, or something."
>adagio looks embarrassed. sonata grins.
>"it's weird," says aria. "you're not even hot. you must be really good at head or something."
>well. they're mistaken, you're not doing anything like that with her, you're just-
>adagio steps on your foot. you look at her, and she grimaces.
>you're just friends.
>you're not sure what makes you say that. there's no reason not to tell the truth. but you do know she feels strongly about her sisters for one reason or another, and you are boxed in. and she is planning something, and you're worried you might be figuring out what it is.
>sonata grabs one of your fries. "this place sucks. you should have come to see us at the taco spot."
>aria scoffs. "you haven't come to any of our shows. all of my friends come to all of my shows."
>"yeah, come is right! they don't give a shit about the music, they just like the cunt," says sonata cheerily.
"girls! let's focus. no need to... be yourselves around anon."
>"yeah, he might realize you're ugly anyway!" sonata giggles. "no offense, anon, really, i just think you could do better."
>"i don't," says aria. "i mean i guess nothing's better than miss bitchypants. how long did it take you to scrape all the dust out of her pussy?"
>you wish they'd stop talking like that about their sister.
>"she's been talking like that about us, hasn't she?" sonata blinks innocently. "i mean, fair is fair, right? i'm sure she tells you all about how awwwwful we are."
>sonata puts her foot on your leg under the table.
>"you don't believe her, do you? we're friendly."
>it's a power play, but a different sort from adagio's in the van. she wanted you to remember her as herself. sonata wants you to think she's better than adagio.
>aria leans forward across the table, and tugs her shirt collar down slightly. "fair is fair. we're not stupid."
>>
>>43459859
>aria looks down pointedly at her body, then back at you. "we know she's been sneaking out to see you."
>"secret boyfriend! secret boyfriend!"
>"and we just want to know why." aria marches her fingers across the table towards you.
>adagio smacks aria's hand away. aria hisses slightly.
"anon's a friend. is that so hard to believe? some of us can talk to people without making it a hookup."
>"that's what i find hard to believe," says aria, still looking at you. "who would want to spend time with you?"
>sonata giggles, rubbing her foot up and down your leg. "can't anon find something better to do?"
>adagio should let you get up, please. you're very happy to meet everyone, but you have to go.
>"awww." sonata pulls a simpering face. "you don't like us?"
>"maybe he's gay," suggests aria. "and he just hasn't told adagio cause she'd cry."
>adagio does look a little bit like she's going to cry. not in her face, which is a resolute half-smirk, but in her hand reaching for yours under the table. you don't take it.
>adagio should really let you get going.
>she stands up, and you get out of the booth. sonata and aria start laughing hysterically.
>"look at his face!" says one.
>"look at hers!" says the other.
>why can't they let their sister have a friend?
>"she doesn't even let us drive," says aria. "fair's fair."
>an eye for an eye makes the whole world blind, or whatever they say.
>"you're lucky we're not ripping yours out of your head," says sonata. "are you gonna finish your fries?"
>you walk away, out of the restaurant. you hear adagio's footsteps behind you, but don't look back at her until you're outside.
"i didn't expect them to be so-"
>adagio.
"they're awful, i told you, but i saw them touching you, they can't- i'll tell them off, i promise, nothing like that will ever-"
>did she invite you here so she could prove she had friends?
>she has that injured child look about her again.
"i wanted you to hear our new material."
>be honest.
"okay. fine. yes. but only because-"
>because they were being shitty to her about it?
"yes. i wanted to shut them up, okay! is that so bad!"
>you sigh. you shouldn't be mad at teenagers for doing teenager shit. but she really should have known better.
>you're not a prop, and you thought she wouldn't treat you that way. especially since she knows you don't want to be involved with her at all.
"don't say it that way again. were the songs good?"
>the ones about you?
"they weren't about you."
>her posture makes it very obvious that they were 100% about you.
"i've been trying to branch out. all that stuff about ruling the world, being the best, i don't know. it doesn't feel right these days."
>not since battle.
"right."
>have her sisters ever hurt her?
"what, like physically? not really. not any more than any sisters would. they're just assholes."
>that's good, at least. are they going back to the van right away?
"i don't know. i guess i will. they'll probably be fucking in the backseat in a while."
>>
>>43459872
"do you smoke?"
>you're a voice teacher.
"yeah, stupid fucking question. i don't either."
>she wants to kill time out here with you. you can't tell if it's to keep you two away from her sisters, or to make it look like you're together from inside, or so she can do something to you again.
>she's planning something.
"i wish. you think so highly of me. i'm not always trying to hurt you."
>she fiddles with her pockets.
"it's kind of cold out."
>it's august.
"it's cold for august."
>school's going to start soon. she should probably... audit a little more.
"you still think i'm a high schooler, don't you?"
>you do.
"look, i'm not. i'm really, really not. i'm... if i was truant, they'd arrest me, or whatever it is they do. i'm your age, i swear."
>all of these games are very teenage. you find a way to phrase this more politely.
"i guess. i'm not good at this."
>what's this?
"i don't have friends. we know this. you're smart enough to know that's why i invited you."
>what's stopping her?
"fuck if i know. everyone hates me as soon as they see me. fair enough. or they see me with them, and they think i'm like them."
>she's not like them.
"i hope not."
>you both stand there awkwardly for a little bit. you want to leave, but you don't. you're not sure exactly what to think. it can't be healthy to be this girl's only friend, but it also can't be healthy for her not to have any at all. you wish you were altruistic enough or brave enough to march her back inside and start introducing her to people.
>something in you does wish she was your age. it's embarrassing. but she does get something most people don't. she would have run away to broadway as a little kid and stayed there. she probably would have died on the streets.
>you wonder if they comp her meals when she plays at a restaurant.
>she perks up.
"yeah. the others fucking love it. they always complain, but free stuff is free stuff. i think it's fine. i don't eat much."
>you raise an eyebrow.
"i'm not anorexic, don't start. i just don't like fast food. i make most of my own meals, you know. like a grownup."
>you eat a lot of fast food for a grownup, yourself. you do not tell her this. instead you ask how she manages that living out of her van. she blushes.
"they're not in there. i could show you. but i know you... you don't want to be there with me again."
>you don't say anything. you notice her fingers twitching.
"well. basically i've got it all hooked up through the cigarette lighter. fire hazard, but so is the rest of the damn thing. split power and daisy chain to a hot plate and a toaster. that gets you most things. and then sometimes we'll go to campgrounds and fill up on water, it's cheaper than at the store if you sneak in, and i've got a teapot, electric would pull too much voltage. not worth it. and i've got dishes, it's all plastic stuff, i lost a few ceramics to a left turn when we started out. and-"
>she continues on in this vein for a little while. you can tell she's proud.
>>
>>43459889
>you can tell from her ramble that she's been living out of this van for a long time. too long for her to be in high school. it just doesn't add up when she's talking about things that happened seven years ago.
>something continues to be very strange about this girl. she doesn't seem to have noticed the references to her age, or how much of a control freak she is. she's talking to talk.
>eventually she runs out of things to say about van life cooking and looks into your eyes disconcertingly.
"you should probably go, right?"
>it's not that late.
"they'll be out soon. if we're still talking, they're going to think... you know."
>right. you should go.
"if you ever do want to... see the inside of the van. you should call me."
>she hands you a page of sheet music. a phone number is written at the top.
>she's putting the ball in your court. you don't want this. being able to call her would mean playing into her hands, telling her you want something you don't. this will mean that you could ask her anything you want and wait for the lies. it's letting her plan around you.
>you put the paper in your own pocket, and resolve to get rid of it when you get home.
"i hope you liked my singing."
>she still needs to stop trying to belt everything.
"still."
>it was pretty good.
"thanks, anon. i hope they didn't make you too upset."
>you start talking, then stop. she gets what you mean.
"i won't do that to you again. sorry."
>you're grateful for that. it wasn't a good move.
"i know! i know. look, just... call me if you want to. i'll have our name back on posters, so... if you ever want to see a show, that's fine too. if you aren't mad at us."
>you'll see what happens.
>she turns and walks off into the parking lot, calling out behind her.
"i'll see you there. i'll try to keep that in mind, with the vocals. love you."
>she disappears into the dark, and then you hear a loud smack and a muffled sob. you go back to your car and drive home. the radio is playing a bunch of bullshit pop rock breakup songs. you don't listen.

>you don't call her. you can't call her. you're a fucking adult. get your head on straight.
>you only think about it late at night, when you're melancholy. you know she's melancholy too. you know she's staring out the dirty windshield thinking about you. it's disgusting to think about.
>you do wonder if she's okay, but you know her. if anything bad happens short of death, she'll show up. probably at your office. she's done it before. she doesn't care about boundaries as long as she doesn't get "in trouble" anyway. she just wants to control you.
>she's so alone. not the kind of alone you are, the boring sedentary kind. she's not the kind of alone that happens to normal people.
>you don't call her. you wish she would find someone who would. you wish her sisters would treat her like a person. you wish she would do the same for them.
>a few weeks go by. you see posters for the dazzlings. they're playing a lot now. you hope the money is good. you hope they're giving her enough to eat.
>sometimes you do warmups yourself when you think about her. keep yourself in time. you tap your hand against your leg and count.
>if something really bad happened to her, you'd hear about it. it would be on the news. the dazzlings have fans, at least allegedly. they'd post about it.
>your normal lessons are normal and boring. nobody really cares about music. a couple kids have talent. most don't. you get some adults, usually fans of kids' cartoons or trying to hack it as voice actors. they're no good either.
>sometimes you wonder what your life would be like if you were her kind of alone. you don't think it would be any better. you at least have a roof over your head.
>sometimes you get fast food and think about her jury-rigged hot plate catching fire.
>you're out getting mexican slop when you see her again. you didn't recognize her laptop when you sat down. you didn't know they'd be playing here tonight.
>sonata sees you first, and elbows aria. they share a giggle. adagio makes her usual dramatic entrance.
>you look away and hold the menu in front of your face.
>more of their songs have that sadness to them now. most of the power anthems have been phased out.
>adagio seems more emotional than usual. you wonder if they had a fight before their set. she keeps looking over at her sisters and hiding her expressions.
>sonata and aria look at each other more often than usual. aria points to you. you try to shrink away. there's no way to get up and leave without making yourself more noticeable.
>adagio's voice is straining. she's not going to like it if it cracks. you can't say anything. obviously.
>a hand grabs the top of your menu and shoves it down.
>"boo!" sonata grins.
>her voice keeps playing out of the amp allegedly connected to her microphone.
>adagio looks around, panicked, and sees you. she keeps singing.
>aria leaves her microphone too. 'her' voice keeps playing. "thanks for the opportunity, anon."

would aria like frito pie or is that more of a sonata cuisine?

>aria saunters over and puts her hand on your shoulder. "we were just telling dear sister that she should stop dubbing our parts."
>sonata cackles. "good timing! i'm glad you never called her. it'll be more fun as a surprise."
>adagio is still singing. it's a song about you. she looks at you with tears in her eyes.
>the audience doesn't care. they're the friday night live music at a fucking greasy taco place that barely counts as downtown. lip syncing doesn't matter. everyone's trying to ignore them anyway.
>adagio's voice quivers and cracks. she's crying now, really crying, as aria straddles you in your booth.
>you push aria off and stand up. sonata grabs your shoulders and forces you back down onto aria's lap.
>aria grabs you around the chest. you shout that they need to get the fuck off of you. sonata giggles.
>"no, silly! adagio needs to learn to stop taking things from us."
>sonata gets on her knees in front of you as aria puts her hand over your mouth. "nobody gives a shit," whispers aria. "nobody gives a shit about you, or us, or her. you scream, sonata bites your dick off. the waiters won't bother us. we've done worse."
>you close your eyes. you hear a scream, and aria digs her fingers into your cheek from inside your mouth. the pain makes you wrench your eyes open.
>adagio is pulling sonata back by the hair. both are yelling.
"fucking let go of him!"
>"i hate you! you never let us do fucking anything!"
>aria laughs sensually in your ear. "two against one. now just be a good boy, anon. let adagio see what happens when a girl you like touches you."
>adagio smacks sonata across the face. sonata whines. adagio gets into your booth, and sonata grabs her around the waist and tries to drag her backwards. people have noticed the fight now. a man comes storming out of the kitchen, yelling something you can't understand at all of you.
>you pull aria's hand away from your mouth and jerk your head up, breaking her grip on you just as adagio does the same from sonata.
>there's a pause. you look at each other. adagio is still actively heaving with tears. she has a bruise on her collarbone. her makeup is streaming down her face and flaking off into her hair, which is a mess.
>you're not sure how you can tell she's thinking about the night of the festival. she just is. she looks away from you.
"sorry."
>sorry.
>you push past her and sonata and run away from these fucked up teenage rapists and their fucked up fake band. you hear employees yelling at them, and aria and sonata trying to calm them down. adagio is sobbing again.
>you get in your car, but you don't leave. you wish you smoked. you turn on the radio and lock the doors.
>>

yo not to be a faggot but fair warning this is a full on attempted rape scene if you're not about that no shame in skipping this post. all you need to know is aria and sonata tried to touch you inappropriately, adagio tried to stop them, you ran away. nothing should get this heavy for the rest of the story i think. continuing

>you hear the dazzlings' van start and duck your head. the van bursts by you, off into the night. they're gone.
>you feel your heart racing as you try to force your breathing back to normal. breathe from the diaphragm, not the chest. shoulders down. good. you breathe in for four, out for twelve. you peter out at ten. in for four, out for eight. good. you do this a few times until you can hear your own thoughts.
>you don't know what the fuck just happened. you weren't planning on seeing the dazzlings, and now you probably never will again. at least you hope so. you should call the cops. you're scared what would happen to adagio if you did.
>you wonder who else they've done that to. you're worried it might include adagio. you think maybe, when she said she was a bad person, she meant... you shake your head. she couldn't have done that. you saw her in the van that night. aria and sonata had this down to a science. adagio didn't. if she could have, she would have.
>you think about calling her, but it wouldn't do any good. if her phone rang in the van, they'd know about it. they might pick up.
>you don't know why they would do that. not just to you, but to her. they ruined her music. it sounds silly to think of it that way, but they did. they showed you something she did was fake. adagio can't handle things like that.
>you hope maybe this is what gets her to leave, but you know it won't. best case scenario you call the police, and somebody ends up in jail, or a shelter, or something. hopefully separated. she trades in a traveling prison for a real one.
>you hear a soft knock at the window. you look up. it's adagio. you roll down the window, but you don't say anything.
>she doesn't either. she looks at you. she's shaking in the warm august night.
>another couple of minutes go by. the radio is still playing. you can hear her breathing. you start counting again.
>slowly, her breath synchronizes with yours. in for four, out for eight. good.
"i-"
>a long pause. you don't say anything either.
"i am so sorry."
>you're sorry too.
"before the show, we- we were fighting. about. about how you didn't call me. it was stupid, they're fucking idiots. i guess they saw you, and they thought- i don't know. they thought they could get one over on me, and it wouldn't, it wouldn't matter, it wouldn't matter if you, if something happened to you-"
>she starts crying again.
"please don't hate me. please, please..."
>you can't say anything. she puts her hands on the edge of your window to steady herself as she cries. her fingers twitch.
>you put your hand on one of hers. she doesn't move. you're surprised she doesn't try to grab you.
"i fucked up. i shouldn't have- it's because i brought you, that last time, and- i don't know when to fucking stop. i thought, i thought, i don't know, i could, you, i could, i could fix it, after, and, and, i'm so sorry, i'm so fucking sorry, anon, i'm sorry..."
>they left her here.
>>
>>43460072
>she wipes her nose on her sleeve. she's still wearing her performance clothes.
"i told them to fuck off. they'll find me in the morning."
>where is she going to sleep?
"i'm not. i'll be fine."
>you know you can't bring her to your house. you don't tell her this. it's too risky. her sisters could track you down, or she could start turning up whenever she wants.
>does she want to go to your office? if she doesn't want to sleep, she could use the piano.
"oh. yeah. thanks."
>you unlock the car, and she slowly walks around to the passenger seat. she gets in, and looks over at you.
"you don't have to do that. i know i-"
>you do have to. she needs help.
"you won't tell anyone."
>you can't decide that now.
>you start driving. adagio hugs her shoulders and looks out the window.
"i love you."
>don't. not right now.
"i do. i can't help it. i don't like it any more than you do."
>you turn the radio up slightly.
"i wish i'd never met you. it was weakness. i thought i wasn't good enough to sing by myself. i shouldn't care that my weakness got you hurt."
>but she does. and that's different from how she used to be.
"you're good at this."
>it happens.
"this doesn't happen. not to people like you. you're just, i don't know. we're not supposed to know each other. i should have run away from you a long time ago."
>she's been in this town a long time.
"i'm bad at leaving."
>there's a long pause. you turn onto the street your office is on.
>she doesn't have to punish herself. that's not how anybody gets better at anything.
"i don't want to get better. i want to go back to where i was. i want to be good at things. i want to stop hurting people like you."
>if she went back where she was, she would stop caring about people like you.
>she leans her head against the window. you pull into the parking lot. both of you sit in the dark for a minute before going inside.
>you turn on the light in your office. adagio hasn't been here in a while. she looks around, and laughs in a crying way.
"sorry i'm late to lesson."
>you can't bring yourself to laugh. your chest hurts from aria grabbing you. adagio sits at the piano bench.
>she starts plinking out a scale. she still can't play piano. she looks like a kid on recital day, about to show grandma heart and soul.
>you sit next to her. she leans her head on your shoulder. you don't push her away, but you don't lean back either.

>adagio stops playing after a little while. she shakes a bit.
>you ask if she's alright.
"i've been working on a new song. i don't know how to play it, exactly, but it should just be a Dm C loop for a while."
>she's using her business voice. ordering you to play for her, after everything that just happened. you shouldn't let her, but she's begging you. you play the chords.
"i don't know quite how it goes yet. but i wanted to write about being trapped, i guess."
>you add some embellishments to the chords. she smiles distantly.
"i've been here a long time. the magic is gone. i'm just going in circles. you're going in circles, too. round and round and round."
>she starts to sing lightly. no words yet, just little la-la-las and da-da-das. her voice is light and hesitant. she sings up the octave, in a quiet head voice. it's beautiful.
>after a little while, you start humming too. she tries to sing louder to match you, and you stop. she lightens up, and you bring your part in again. nothing fancy, just fifths and octaves. you dance around each other for a bit.
>it's not that late, but it feels like the middle of the night. the light in your office is the only spot in the darkness for what seems like miles. somewhere, aria and sonata are in the van, driving off to another somewhere.
>you and adagio look at each other. you ask her not to kiss you.
"it's hard."
>you stop playing.
"nobody else would have done this for me. ever. especially after them. but we can't do anything about it. i can't do anything about it."
>she sings the melody you were just using as counterpoint.
"round and round and round."
>yeah.
"i can't leave you. i can't stay, or i'm going to hurt you again. but i can't leave. there's no... there's no, like, great escape, where i fly off on my own, and, and everything's fixed. i can't. i can't live like that."
>she can live without you. she shouldn't talk like that.
"i don't... i don't mean anything. i don't know."
>it's been a long day. you could leave and let her get some sleep.
"you could stay?"
>you shrink away, but she doesn't grab you this time. she looks at your body language, and turns away herself.
"i'm sorry. you don't have to. i can take care of myself. i'll be gone at dawn."
>you aren't quite sure what to do. you put your hands back on the keys, and start playing something, whatever it happens to be. it's muscle memory stuff. charlie brown soundtrack, maybe.
>adagio sits next to you for a while, then puts her arm around you. you don't push it away. you keep playing.
>her arm feels nice. not like aria's. she doesn't push down on you. you finish your song.
"that was nice."
>you can't keep doing this.
"i know."
>it's going to kill you. or her.
"i know."
>you don't love her. you can't.
"i know."
>there's nowhere to go.
"i know."
>she needs to figure herself out. you can't do that for her.
"i know."
>you have a life.
"i know."
>and she doesn't own you.
"i know."
>she moves closer.
"but i still love you."
>>
>>43460117
>you don't respond. her shoulders slump. she moves her arm off of you, but doesn't move further away.
>it's very quiet. you can hear the late summer insects outside, and your breathing, and hers.
>you put your arm around her and pray she knows you still don't feel about her the way she feels about you. you pray she knows the way she feels about you isn't right, and isn't real.
>she rests her head on your shoulder. she knows better than to say anything. you see that her far hand is picking at the stitching on her dress, exactly in time.
>you sit like this for a very long time. eventually, she falls asleep. you don't feel it, but you do, too.

>>43459872
>"you're lucky we're not ripping yours out of your head," says sonata. "are you gonna finish your fries?"
Damn. Going from trying to play footsie with Anon to this?
I love the way you portray both of them so far. Glad they got some screentime finally.
>"she's been talking like that about us, hasn't she?" sonata blinks innocently. "i mean, fair is fair, right? i'm sure she tells you all about how awwwwful we are."
Also really enjoy the way you’ve been hinting at their dynamic. Adagio’s control freak nature and her superiority complex clashing with their natural pride and aggression, now that they are down lower than ever they’re not putting up with it as much anymore and it shows. Also interesting that they know about it, or at least can guess. I supposed they would all know each other very well.
>>43459905
>"i'll see you there. i'll try to keep that in mind, with the vocals. love you."
Oh no no no no
I cringed… I can’t tell if she’s slipping or playing a long con. It’s really good.

Something I haven’t said yet is that I really like how you’ve written Anon. He really sensible and mature. I also like that while he is disappointed and wary of Adagio, he also can’t help but worry seeing their situation.
Also it’s funny how you wrote them as such convincing teenagers considering everything. But it feels very in line with what we saw in the film.
>>43460054
>you're not sure how you can tell she's thinking about the night of the festival

Thanks, I thought it fit with her too. She's a silly one, so I imagine she sticks her tongue out whenever she has to reeeeally concentrate.

Holy cannoli Aria and Sonata are utterly insufferable, and poor Dagi has to live with these freaks? Then there's Anon, man he kinda frustrates me. Sure, from his point of view he's morally correct and in the right, good for him, but I mean come on man hug the girl she won't bite (maybe). Regardless, I feel absolutely horrible for her situation. On the bright side of things, Anon appears to at least be sticking around and giving her a shoulder to cry on. That's progress. All in all great job, writefren. My heartstrings have been sufficiently strung.
>>
>>43460167
Cute as fuck Aria!
>>
>>43460167
He did hug her though.
You gotta remember the fucked up shit she’s done herself too. She’s tried to manipulate and force herself on him before. Doesn’t seem like this is about being “morally correct and in the right” for Anon. He’s seeing what’s going on here and trying not to get hurt, or worse. But also trying not to fuck her up even more. Part of him still thinks this is some kid going through some shit. I think it’s very interesting.

I was making a joke with the hug thing. I remember what happened, and I do understand Anons point of view. I know it's the logical and mature thing, especially considering the threat to his livelihood that this whole situation could present, but I still find his emotional distance and behavior somewhat frustrating from my perspective. In my point of view, being the reader, I know Adagio for who and what she really is. I'd do things differently than Anon, and probably end up far worse for wear but hey it's the journey not the destination, right? Anyway, Anon doesn't know the full story, so he can only go off of what he's seen and experienced thus far. Looking at things that way, I really can't blame him, but I still can't help but feel the way I do. Regardless of my personal quibbles, I do love this green and greatly appreciate the hardworking writefren and all of his contributions.

i'm finding the responses to anon really interesting. he's a consequence of me not being used to writing greens/insert stories, so i gave him a little more of his own character. he turned out to be a little bit of a rorschach test because he's not fully a character? i felt like having him come out swinging for one side or the other of the really complicated situation he's in wouldn't feel right. dramatic irony... ough...
and drawfriend is really good at drawing tiny adagio screaming at you. underrated niche
>>
>>43460117
Eh, I think you're starting to lose me here. It's fine, if a bit heavy handed, I'm just not sure how much I'm into this characterization. Still, keep at it, I want to see if you can win me over again.
>>
>>43460759
>he turned out to be a little bit of a rorschach test because he's not fully a character?
That's how he used to be until 5-6 years ago when the pandemic hit except one or two called him a general purpose self insert before the word isekai got popular.
>>
>>43460759
>>43460792
As someone who doesn't care for Anon centric stuff, he really should feature as character as little as possible. More of a placeholder, an idea. Otherwise use an actual character or something.

>you wake up early. it's barely light out. your office light is still on.
>you're curled up on the piano bench in the fetal position. your legs hang off the end. adagio is gone.
>you aren't sure for a moment if you dreamt last night. it's possible. unlikely, though.
>you sit up groggily. your back hurts. thank god it's the weekend.
>you look down at the bench, and see a folded-up sheet of paper where your head was. it's staff paper, but no music notes are written on it yet. something's there, in the same handwriting as adagio's phone number.
sisters here sorry. if u call let ring 3x then hang up. c u @ lesson time. A <3
>it was clearly written in a hurry. you wish you were more awake. worry starts creeping in.
>sisters here. they knew she'd be with you. you wonder if they've been planning something too.
>you're glad you didn't bring her home. you don't ever want to see sonata and aria there. you don't know if you want to see adagio there, even.
>she shouldn't have gone back with them. you thought she was smarter than that. she's going to go right back to them after what they did to you, and then something else will go wrong, and she'll be with you again, and then it'll repeat. you've been doing this on and off for months.
>you turn off your office light and get yourself a drink of water from the hallway. you feel like shit.
>you think about calling adagio. or at least doing whatever hang-up trick she wants you to. that would at least give her your number. do you want that? you do, you suppose, just in case.
>just in case what? don't ask questions like that, you mutter to yourself. she's fine. you're just worrying for the sake of it.
>you go to the bathroom and look in the mirror. your mouth hurts. you stretch out your cheek and tilt around until you can see a big scratch on the inside of your mouth. from aria.
>you fumble around in your pocket for your phone. you should call the police. and then what? what do you say in court? your honor, you were hanging out with the evil rape teenagers of evil and rape, and they evilly raped you. what were you doing there, anon? you were trying to get tacos. great story.
>and then what? the van gets impounded. aria and sonata go somewhere. juvie, maybe. or maybe not. maybe discovery finds out how old these people really are. you don't have any trouble believing the other two are teens, but adagio's story still doesn't add up. and what if she got rid of documents when she left her home? what if she gets locked up too?
>she fucked up. she's fucked up a lot. but she didn't criminally fuck up, by your reckoning. she's not a bad person, not that bad, at least.
>you wash your face. you wish you were at home so you could change your clothes or brush your teeth. you look older than you are from the poor sleep. you don't know what she sees in you.
>you wish whatever it was she'd stop seeing it. you're supposed to be a boring, stable teacher. you're supposed to be older than you look.

>she thinks you're in some kind of shitty movie, or something. you don't know. it shouldn't be your job to fix her life. for someone who wants to be in charge of everything, she has a way of pawning off the hard parts on other people.
>you feel bad for thinking so cruelly of her. do you? it's hard to say. she got you into this mess. but she did try to stop her sisters.
>you think she means what she says, but that's not really good enough. if she really loved you, she'd fix her shit. she wouldn't put everything on you all the time. she'd make friends.
>you aren't sure what to do. if you call her, you at least guarantee she's not in a ditch somewhere. if you don't... she said she'd be back at lesson time. the nerve of this girl. she's lucky you didn't just book another student for her timeslot. you don't even really know why you never did.
>you call adagio. you hope you remember the number right, but you've looked at it a lot. probably fine. you let the phone ring three times, then hang up.
>there is no response. you put your phone away, turn off the lights, and go home.
>you can't get to sleep when you do get back. it's too late now, too sunny. you try to stop thinking about the dazzlings, but that's a lost cause.
>you poke around online some more. the best info you can find on where the band comes from is some CHS kid's blog where she rants about them being evil demon sirens or something. you know that can't be right. if they were two thousand years old, they wouldn't act like that.
>the weekend of banal nothing bleeds into the week of banal nothing. adagio doesn't call you back. you consider calling again, but she has your number now. if she wants something, it's her job to make the effort.
>you think about the last time you saw her too often to be healthy. not her as much as her sisters. you're scared that you would have gone along with them if you hadn't heard her crying. fucking disgusting.
>you wonder how many other people they've done things like that to. even just in that restaurant. there are a lot of cruel people in the world. you're grateful your teenage years weren't that interesting. adagio can't understand the boring way, but you wish she could. it's a lot easier.
>adagio's lesson day comes around. you're on edge all morning. it's worse in the afternoon. your 4:00 notices you looking at the clock more than usual, and whines that she's not getting better fast enough. you try to be accommodating, but it's hard. she leaves in a bad mood at 4:25.
>you hear the van screech to a halt in the parking lot at 4:30. you wish you'd brought alcohol, or a weapon, or something. you feel feeble. you hope adagio's alone.
>she's not. you hear three sets of footsteps in the hallway, and a lot of giggling. it doesn't sound like anyone's crying or trying to stop the others.
>aria comes in first. you feel yourself tense up, and try not to show it.

>"anon... poor anon..." aria is using a very dramatic register of her speaking voice. projecting, enunciating like she's on stage. the shit-eating grin is clearly genuine, though.
>she walks over to you, and you step back. she laughs. "don't worry, poor boy. i don't want to play with dear sister's special treat."
>sonata strides in, laughing. "hi anon! you missed us, right? have you started jacking off to us yet, or are you still being good?"
>you don't answer. she laughs harder, walking around behind you. you can't look at both sisters at once. "still being pure for adagio, huh? woooow. she doesn't deserve you."
>"oh, she does," says aria. "let her savor this. she's been working so hard."
>you push past aria, moving towards the door. you don't want to be in their shitty play.
>aria grabs your arm. adrenaline spikes. you shake her off, and she grabs you again. you feel sonata grab your other arm.
>"you can't run," says sonata cheerfully.
>"but you don't want to, do you? you're the one who called. you miss your girlfriend." aria chuckles dramatically. she's loving this. "thinking about poor, poor adagio, missing you, longing for you, praying you forgive her."
>"so sad!" adds sonata.
>aria continues. "she was telling us all about it. how you really thought she loved you."
>"wow, aria, maybe he's not as nice as we thought." sonata pouts. "i mean, one teenager gives him a little attention and he can't help sleeping with her! but then two beautiful women touch him and he gets all scared."
>"fucking pussy," says aria. "oh wait. you're not doing that. at all."
>where is adagio?
>"about time you gave a shit about her." aria grabs the back of your head, making sure you look at the door. "she's been waiting for her cue."
>adagio saunters in. she's dressed up for the occasion. big, spiky leather jacket. tiara. fancy purple dress. her makeup is done for the stage, but the gaudiness is oppressive in your small office. it's hard to tell her true expression, but she's definitely looking at you smugly.
"well, anon. i do hate to break your heart like this, but... i don't."
>what is she talking about?
>aria and sonata giggle. they let go of your arms, but you don't move. they're behind you, and adagio is blocking the door.
"the human mind is an awful thing, isn't it, girls? a little planning, a little foresight..."
>she stretches her hand out. not to you, but to the audience.
"you have them in the palm of your hand."
>aria and sonata begin to pace around you and adagio. sharks in the water. you can't tell what they want from you.
"you believed me about everything, anon. everything except the truth."
>aria and sonata begin vocalizing. that's the best word for it. sonata lets out a horrible dull hum which can't stick to a single note. aria howls lightly, almost like a whistle. their faces look like they're singing beautiful music, but they sound like dogs.
"we are magical. we were, at least. your people took everything from us."
>>
>>43461090
>you don't know what the fuck she's talking about. did her sisters put her up to this? she's not like this.
"oh, but i am. and soon you'll see what i'm really capable of."
>she laughs. you notice that it's in time. it's musical.
"our magic needs two things to return... your hate, and your love."
>aria and sonata echo her. "your hate and your love." they're still circling you mockingly.
>you don't hate or love any of them. this doesn't make sense.
"you hate my sisters. that part was easy. just let them be themselves."
>sonata waves cheerily. aria flips you off.
"but your love... oh, that part was wonderful. you just couldn't help yourself, could you? you really thought i would care about human scum like you."
>but she does care. people who don't care don't do everything she's been doing. you don't know what this act is, but she needs to stop it.
"i have stopped the act."
>she says it forcefully, powerfully. eye contact. you don't see a crack in the mask. you feel a strange pang of fear that she might mean it.
>you were just wishing she didn't care about you, but you didn't expect to hear it like this.
"i'll admit, you were harder to crack than i thought. i assumed when i kissed you you'd give in. but the chase is the fun part, isn't it, anon? hunting your food yourself. i haven't had to try that hard in a long time. all the tears, all the little twitches. i wasted months on you. without my magic, i had to try so hard to make you fall. it was delicious."
>you don't say anything. you look at her hands. you're trying to find the tell that she's acting. you can't.
>adagio gets closer to you. you freeze as she puts her hand under your chin.
"you're the key, anon. isn't that nice? you get to help me. you get to fix me. that's what you wanted, isn't it? congratulations. with your love, i can bring the magic back. i can be my old self again. my true self."
>aria and sonata vocalize louder. you feel surrounded by wild animals.
"listen to them... poor things. i had to do all the hard work, with their voices gone. but they'll be back. we'll all be back. you won't be able to ignore us. nobody will."
>the circle is getting tighter. aria and sonata almost brush against you as they pass. adagio doesn't move, just stands there in front of you. you know where this is going, even if you don't know why she wants it.
>she's not like this. she's not like her sisters. adagio.
"you're right. i'm not like this. when my power is restored, you'll see what i really am. and you will adore me."
>you see something evil in her eyes. her skin tone and eyeshadow make them look almost red. aria and sonata are moving faster than ever, howling and shrieking. adagio grabs your head with both hands. you know where this goes.
>you don't want this. she knows you don't want this.
"i want to be dazzling."
>she moves in for the kiss.
>>
>>43461115
>adagio stops less than an inch from your face, lips puckered. aria and sonata are laughing in between yelps and whistles. you see a bead of sweat on adagio's forehead.
>adagio?
>"finish the job, asshole!" yells aria, coming to a sudden stop. sonata bumps into her.
>"get the magic back! get the magic back!" sonata pokes her head out from around aria, pumping her fist in the air. "cmon, adagio! make up for being such a bitch!"
>"you owe us, adagio. do it."
>you don't know what the fuck they're talking about. magic isn't real. but peer pressure is, and shitty families are.
>adagio is better than this. better than them.
>aria pushes you forward, at adagio. "fucking do your job, cunt!"
>adagio steps back. something seems off about it. you realize that everything else she'd done had been on a count. she's off beat.
>adagio's expression doesn't betray anything. she looks blank. aria pushes you forward again. "fucking pussy! you want us like this forever!"
>sonata wraps her arms around you from behind. "and you won't even let us play with him!"
>you wrench free of sonata's grip, stepping to the side. adagio is across from her sisters now, still looking blank.
>"if you can't do it, i will." aria's eyes have that glint in them now. she turns and grabs you, going in to kiss you herself. you look away as adagio pulls aria back.
>aria hisses. "i knew you were like this."
>sonata pouts. "poor adagio! now anon knows you were lying to him, and you didn't even get anything out of it! wow, i'd hate to be you. you have to live with that forever."
>"yeah, and we have to live with her." aria shoves you and storms off toward the door. "come on. we're fucking leaving. fuck you, anon. don't call her again."
>adagio is still standing where aria was a second ago. she's not looking at you, but at the door.
>did they put her up to this?
>she doesn't answer.
>she doesn't have to go with them. even if she was leading you on. you didn't want to be led anywhere anyway. people make mistakes.
>she shakes her head and follows aria and sonata out the door.
>you are alone in your office again. you hear the van speed away outside. you sit down at the piano, but don't play anything.
>>

How much longer is this? I keep feeling like we're about to get an ending but it just keeps going

>the rest of the day passes. you go home. you eat something. not very much. you watch some bullshit on your phone. you try to go to bed.
>you try not to think about anything.
>you're woken up by the phone ringing. you don't remember falling asleep. it's about two in the morning. adagio is calling you.
>you consider declining the call. you don't want anything to do with her, and she doesn't want anything to do with you. you imagine her and her sisters gathered around the phone, giggling, waiting for you to pick up so they can taunt you.
>very little has made sense since you met her. she's getting younger and older in your mind. you feel like you've been thinking this way a lot recently. it's all circles.
>you pick up the phone. you don't hear laughter. it's quiet for a moment.
>adagio?
"anon."
>you hear that stage inflection in her voice. you can't tell if there's anyone else on the line.
>why is she calling you in the middle of the night? is this a joke? is she going to try to hurt you again? what the fuck happened this afternoon?
"no, you fool. i am simply attempting to contact you, in your way."
>she should stop doing the voice. you're alone, aren't you? isn't she?
"i... am. yes."
>she's not at your office, is she? she better not be.
"i'm not. i am somewhere. my sisters aren't here. don't... don't worry."
>so what was that. why would she say those things to you? why was she about to kiss you again? was the magic stuff a joke or what?
"it was real. the magic is real, anon."
>she needs to stop fucking lying. you're tired of this shit. if she wants to be like her sisters, she's welcome to.
"fine. fine! i'll stop talking about it. but i'm not like them. don't say i'm like them."
>she's still using her performer voice, but the usual unasked question is there. she wants you to tell her she's better. why? is is runaway ego? desperation? is she a narcissist? does she just want you to adore her for some weird complex?
>she was a lot like them today.
"anon, i was acting."
>which time? when she said she cared about you, or when she said she didn't? was she acting when she was crying in your car or when she was trying to force herself on you?
"you should know. i thought you were good at that."
>not this late at night. you need a straight answer.
>her voice shakes a little. she sounds in between two characters. you wish you could see her, so you could look for a tell, but she'd probably be too in control to give you one. or maybe she'd always been in control. maybe all her little twitches and expression changes were part of the act.
"i can't give you an answer you'd like. but... my sisters, they said you were calling because you wanted me. they said i had to claim you or they would."
>you're not for sale.
"i know you're not! i know you're a person or whatever, okay? i get it!"
>does she?
"yes! look, would i call you if i didn't want to fix things?"
>yes. you don't trust her right now.
>she makes an exasperated noise you can't parse.
>>
>>43461326
"i do want to. i don't know how to explain. i thought, today, i would..."
>she thought she would assault you again. sure. then what.
"then it would be over. then my sisters would see that this didn't count, and didn't mean anything. you were like their boys, whatever. and we wouldn't have to see you again."
>she could have just not seen you again.
"they wouldn't let that happen."
>for someone who keeps her sisters on such a tight leash, she seems unable to control them now. whatever grip she had on them is slipping. it feels like the same might be true about you. you don't know how to feel about that. you don't say anything for a moment.
"but i couldn't do it. that's... why i have to call you. anon."
>is she in the van?
"no."
>where is she?
"don't worry about me. i'm fine. go back to being mad at me."
>what happened?
"it's complicated. i just thought you'd... i don't know. i'm sorry to bother you."
>you feel bad for her. you're still disgusted by her. you wonder if she's outside. you're glad it's not winter. she needs to get out of whatever hell pit she's in before she hurts someone else worse than she hurt you. you prop yourself up in bed and put the phone to your other ear.
>adagio's sisters are bad for her. she knows that. you're hurt that she would let them convince her to do something like that. she knows how upsetting it was last time. you thought she was sorry about it.
>she takes a while to respond.
"yeah. i don't know. i am sorry about it. i guess i thought i could go back to the old way, and stop caring one way or the other."
>that's not how life works.
"i guess i know that now."
>what are you supposed to say to that?
"nothing. i just wanted to hear your voice."
>she's fully back in her normal voice now. it's a little softer than usual, but she's not doing a bit. she sounds lonely. it shouldn't work on you. you have to be better than that.
"i think you're right. i should leave. i was thinking about. that time. you know. when they, and all."
>right. what about it?
"i'm not like them. i should move on."
>you agree.
"i thought i was. today. and then i couldn't do it. i'm supposed to be good at that. i couldn't do it."
>that's a good thing.
"right. so, thanks for being there, i guess. sorry. i don't know why i called you."
>to say that?
"that's not what i thought when... yeah. probably. i wanted to tell you i'm working on some new songs. solo stuff."
>you want to tell her you want to hear them. they're probably good. you're worried they might be about you. you want her to keep her resolution to move on, and you want to keep your own resolution not to stay involved with her.
"i want to see you one more time. i don't want it to end like this. it's weakness."
>you don't ask which part is weakness. you don't say anything.
"i'm going to be around tomorrow. i'll get dinner at that burger place where you came to my show."
>you'll see.
>you hear her let out a deep breath she had been holding.
"thanks, anon. love-"
>she hangs up.
>>
I'm enjoying it very much.

>you spend the day thinking about the same things you're always thinking about. you're tired. you wonder how long adagio's felt trapped in the same loop. part of you is angry at her for letting you join her.
>you shouldn't go see her, but you will. you need to see her face when she accepts that she can't keep doing this. you hope she'll be alone, and you can actually make progress. she was good at that, when she was in lessons. she's a quick learner when she wants to be.
>you make it through work on autopilot and head to the burger joint. you probably would have gone there anyway. you often do. and besides, it's just to say goodbye.
>will you miss adagio? hard to say. she's a good singer. she cares about music in a way most people you know don't. she can be sweet, when she's not choosing to be something else.
>you can't tell if you think she's a good person underneath it all, or if you just think she could be if she listened to you.
>this is probably how she feels about her sisters. maybe someday someone will feel that way about you. or maybe not. you don't do stupid shit.
>you go to see her. it's a very stupid idea.
>you find adagio in the corner booth where you sat to watch her. she's got her hoodie up, and a backpack on the seat next to her. she's looking at the menu as you sit across from her.
>hi.
>she lowers the menu. she has a black eye.
"hey."
>what happened?
"you know. sister stuff."
>she waves her hand as if absentmindedly, but it trembles.
>they hurt her? adagio. that's serious. she can't be thinking of going back, she can't be.
"no."
>she gestures to her backpack.
"my computer. clothes. some other stuff. i've got it figured out."
>she looks even more tired than usual. she definitely didn't sleep at all last night. you wonder where she spent the night. you think about something happening to her on the street. your stomach turns. she smiles weakly.
"it won't be any harder than before. i can hitchhike to the city. i can busk. you taught me to sing pretty good. couch surf until i get a foot under me. i can produce for people, that's some income there. maybe i'll find a band that's shit and take over."
>you didn't know it had gotten so bad.
"i'll be fine. i have a plan. i got this far, right?"
>does her eye hurt?
>she puts her hand up to her face, then winces.
"yeah."
>have they ever done that to her before?
"no. yesterday was different."
>she doesn't have to tell you the details.
"good. it was bad. they don't listen to me anymore. why should they? i told you, anon, everyone hates me eventually. but i don't have to put up with that. like you said."
>you're proud of her.
>adagio starts crying, all at once. you've seen her cry a lot, but never this quickly. she puts her head in her hands, then yelps and takes her hand away from the side with the black eye. you aren't quite sure what to do.
"i'm sorry. i'm sorry i cry all the time now. i'm sorry i make you worried about me. i really wanted to-"
>she keeps sobbing.

>she's hard to understand through her tears. you wonder if aria clawed up the inside of her mouth, like what she did to you.
"i wanted to fix it and i fucked it up more and that's been happening all the time and i just want out. i don't know how you do it, how you just go about your boring life, sorry, but i- i can't slow down and i can't keep going and i don't know what to do but it can't be this. it can't be them and it can't be you but i hate that. i hate it. i hate looking at you."
>you let her cry it out for a minute. nobody's this good of an actress, you decide, and if she is then she deserves to get whatever she wants anyway.
>look, adagio. she's right that she can't stay in her situation. moving away from her sisters is the right choice. but she's not ready to go out by herself. she's going to spiral herself all up again and be just as miserable.
"so what? i give up? you know i can't do that."
>you don't know that. she's never tried. and it's not giving up to accept help.
"you shouldn't help me, anon. you're just my teacher."
>you can tell it really hurts for her to say this. she's trying to tie up loose ends.
>she's right that you shouldn't help her. but if you don't, she's never going to get better.
"lost cause."
>not if she really means what she says. if she's a lost cause, she's a lost cause alone too, and that's more dangerous.
"you make everything so hard."
>she pulls her hood down. her hair is a mess. it looks less bright, somehow.
"you won't let me say that i love you, but you'll try to save my life. you're very strange."
>you feel for her. you want to get her on her feet, so she won't hurt anybody else. including herself. that's not romantic. if she could stop thinking it was she could understand what you're doing.
"i don't know."
>you need her to promise no more bullshit. she needs out. no going back to her sisters, no trying to touch you. you're friends, and she needs to treat you like a friend.
"you wouldn't have said that last night."
>last night she didn't have a black eye. she should put something on that. if she promises, you can help.
"okay. fine. i promise i won't do anything."
>she holds out her hand uncertainly. you shake it. she doesn't seize it, she doesn't try anything, but her hand is sweaty. she holds your hand for just a little bit too long. you ignore it.
>she should come with you. for now.
>she nods and gets up. neither of you has ordered anything. she puts her backpack on, and it's clearly heavy. the two of you walk outside. it's the first time in a while you've left a restaurant without running.
>she puts her bag in the backseat of your car and stands there, looking at it.
>is she alright?
"yeah. i thought i'd have more stuff. that's all."

>you start driving. the radio's on. you don't really listen to it.
>when you drive past the road to your office, adagio looks up at you. her eye looks painful.
"where are we going?"
>she doesn't give you time to answer.
"you're not taking me back to my sisters, are you? you don't even know where they are. please don't take me to a, a police station, or something like that. i really will be fine by myself."
>how long has she been saying that?
"you wouldn't believe me. years."
>and where has that gotten her?
>she laughs dully.
"point taken."
>you're taking her to your place. she can get her feet under her.
"oh. thank you."
>she shifts in her seat.
"you trust me a lot. how do you know i won't, you know."
>you're going to trust her once. you shouldn't, but you will. if you don't, everything's going to stay the same. you'll keep dancing around each other and things will only get worse for both of you.
>you don't really know her. you've never spent more than an hour or two around each other on purpose. you still don't know what she's running away from.
"i wish i could tell you and you'd understand. i do."
>you know. but it's probably not your place to know the details. you're going to give her a chance to prove she's more than a voice and wandering hands.
>you frame it this way so she'll do it. you know she can't let herself heal without making it a challenge. she needs something to fix, something to prove. she needs you to think she's smart.
>she has everything she needs, but she doesn't know how to use it. that's why she brute forces everything. it's natural talent that got her production skills so fast, but she has to think it's hard work or she'd never let herself succeed at it.
>you get why this is unsatisfying for her, but you're not sure what to do about it. you're not a therapist. you hope that if you can give her a place where her challenge is to stop challenging, she can get out of her own way after a while.
>adagio stares at you as you think about this.
"you're planning something."
>sort of.
"is that what i look like when i do it?"
>she's more subtle, probably. she laughs a little at this.
"maybe. it's weird seeing that and not thinking you're trying to kill me."
>you could be. maybe you're kidnapping her to throw her in the river.
"you wouldn't dare."
>oh, probably. she doesn't know that.
>both of you wait a few moments, then start laughing. it feels weird. you feel like you're taking your kid home from school, or something. some alien kind of relationship you never had. you're dimly aware that she probably thinks this is romantic. that would be easier.
>you pull into your driveway. you live modestly. you don't have a mcmansion, but you're not in a shoebox apartment either. adagio follows you in with her backpack.
"this is nice."
>it's not. you haven't cleaned up in a while. but it is a home without wheels, and it does have a kitchen.

I'm really liking what I'm reading here, writefren. Anon being her support and Adagio earnestly trying to move forward is nice to see. Although I have a feeling this calm won't last, I'm enjoying their current dynamic regardless.

>adagio puts her backpack down, and both of you investigate the kitchen. you find an ice pack to put on her black eye, and she finds something to throw in the microwave to eat. you both act very normal, given the circumstances.
>when the food is ready, you eat in the living room, on the couch. you sit next to each other, but don't touch.
"i'm waiting to get upset again."
>what does she mean?
"i mean, i left. i want to stick to it this time. my sisters are... were the only people i know at all, right? i should be freaking out again. it's strange knowing that and not feeling it."
>if it happens, it happens. you can't blame her for being happy to be away from them.
"i'm happy i'm here with you. this is nice."
>you take a deep breath.
>it is. she's not your girlfriend, and you still can't feel that way about her. you two aren't going to share a bed, or anything like that.
"i know."
>you need her to get that straight. that's what's keeping you going through with this. otherwise it's just you taking advantage of a struggling teenager who took advantage of you.
"fair would be fair."
>no it wouldn't. that's what her sisters don't understand.
>adagio thinks about this, staring at you with her uncovered eye.
"i'm used to being able to figure things out. i don't get you."
>you shrug.
"i mean, here i am. i'm at your mercy. i'm weak. you could do whatever you want. you could ruin my life. you could use me to, i don't know, make yours better, or something. why don't you?"
>that's not what you're here for. you know it would be easier. she's not ugly, and she's usually not unpleasant. but... it's hard to characterize the 'but'. there is one.
"if you ever change your mind..."
>you hope you don't before she leaves. this isn't permanent. it's just until you know she's ready to go.
>adagio tilts her head and taps her fingers. she's looking at you like a broken taillight. she takes a while to speak.
"i'm going to give you a hug. i won't do anything else."
>you consider the proposition. you're trusting her, and you should let her be trusted. you've made yourself as clear as you can. if she fucks this up, that's on her. you nod.
>adagio hugs you gently. she doesn't go limp like she does when she's upset, and she doesn't cling. she just rests on you. you hug her back, and she settles herself against you. it feels nice. you wish you were a weaker man.
>the ice pack is cold against your chest, but the rest of her is warm. you feel her breathing, not in time, just naturally.
>you hold her for a little while. you've both had a very long... period of time. she sniffles a bit, and you rub your hand on her shoulder.
>she stops, and looks up at you. there's an ice pack in the way.
"thank you, anon."
>she's welcome.
"i had an idea for a lyric, but it's really just awfully corny."
>shoot.
"it feels like tomorrow. something like that. like i've been living the same day on repeat for years. this is. very different."
>that just meant she needed to change.
>>
>>43462057
"i guess. it feels like i wasted a long time."
>that's part of being human.
>she inhales. you wait for her usual strange retort.
"yeah."
>yeah.
>you don't really know what you're doing. you hate yourself for it. you feel like you should be teaching her something. how to cook with a real oven, or how to apply for a job. you shouldn't be holding her on the couch with a shitty cheap ice pack and tv dinners.
>despite yourself, you kiss adagio on the forehead. she doesn't move, but you feel her smile against your chest.
>you aren't going to back down. that isn't what this is. but it was the right thing to do, given the circumstances.
>you and adagio hold each other for a minute longer, and then you gently pull yourself away. she lets you.
>she didn't sleep last night, and she might want to.
"yeah. i'll stay here."
>she's doing her question-speak. you can't tell if the question is "can i sleep with you?" or "am i doing this right?", but you hope it's the latter. you tell her yes, and offer to bring her a blanket.
"i'll be fine. i have stuff in my bag."
>you raise your eyebrow. she adjusts her ice pack.
"but if you want to, that's fine."
>you nod, and go to your room to get a spare blanket out of the closet. when you get back, adagio is cleaning up from dinner.
"i hope you don't mind. i had to do everything, you know. van. and all that."
>sure. you're grateful.
"you're welcome."
>she takes the blanket.
"good night, anon."
>good night.
>you stay up in your room for a while. adagio is in your house. that isn't right. you still don't really know her. for all you know, she's going to rob you, or have her sisters break in and beat you up.
>most likely she'll just be gone in the morning. off to do it all over again. it'll be like when she used to come to your office in the middle of the night. round and round and round.
>you go to sleep eventually. you don't remember your dreams, but they involved young women screaming and sirens.
>when you wake up, it takes you a moment to remember last night. adagio dazzle was on your couch. her sisters were somewhere else.
>you prepare yourself for the usual. a note. hopefully not with a heart. maybe a phone call. a taunting message of some kind.
>adagio is sitting on your couch, her backpack next to her. she's brought her notebook and a pencil, and is scribbling down music notes.
"good morning, anon. i'm working on that song idea from last night. i think it'll just be one voice and piano. what key would work for that? do you think it's worth switching into head voice for a bridge?"
>you'll take a look. you sit next to her, and she shows you what she's writing. you hum it to yourself. it's good. you suggest a key, telling her she'll have to sing gently to hit the high parts. she nods.
>you're surprised she's still here.
"i want to learn to sing."

Feels a bit like Dagifag propaganda, and I say this as a massive Dagifag myself. Still, I'd be interested in seeing what else you churn out. I'm tempted to try my hand at writing something myself.

>>43462159
we need dagifag propaganda. sonata and aria threads are full of people loving their sirens and the closest thing to an adagio thread is just flatdagio posting. we need to be pumping adagio stock i've invested and i need my payout

I just feel like you drag the others down while treating Dagi like a wet kitten, I love all the Dazzlings and I don't want it to be a competition between them. Also Flatdagio is funny although to be honest, I never quite thought it fit with her 'shape language' if anything I'd expect Aria to be the flat one, or at least on the skinnier side.

>>43462188
>>43462199
Adagio is the hip Queen! I think the issue is everyone equates that to mean 'size', when what it really means is the way she moves her hips, with perfect elegance and grace. They are a petite awork of art in their efficient, tight form. Like an aquatic predator should be. She is peak siren performance.
>>
>>43462229
Plus I think it's cute and appropriate that she would become irritated when turned into a human only to discover that humans obsess over large fat deposits like the ones her lazy inferior sisters just happen to have, instead true, perfected elegance like herself. Fuels a sort of a Napoleon complex that drives her ambition.

Agreed.
I definitely see Aria as being the type to just skip meals until she absolutely needs to eat just based off of there not being anything that sounds appetizing to her at the moment.
That does beg the question though -
>Do they have a separate appetite for food, and a separate appetite for magic/emotional energy, or is it more that they had no need to eat when they had their amulets because the magic sustained them, but they could eat if they wanted to, and now without the amulets - they need food like regular people?
>>
>>43466831
them having to get used to needing to eat food is something i hadn't really thought about. they're capable of feeling hungry and of eating before they lose the pendants. maybe afterwards they get hungry and try to cause fights and have to remember that doesn't work anymore. delivery drivers fucking hate them

Sonata eats like shit because she because she's a bit of a glutton but Aria eats like shit because she thinks of it like a chore she just wants to get out of the way, she'd prefer to eat nice but she'd prefer even more to have someone else do the prep for her, which was probably the case when the Dazzlings still had their magic, if she has to cook for herself she defaults to whatever's quick and easy

Sonata only eats canned goods, and macaroni and cheese. Her favorite food is anything Chef Boyardee makes. Also, candy. Lots of candy.

Aria also eats a lot of processed food (gas station burritos and Burger King) but she insists that it's "Better than the crap Sonata eats" because it was "Actually cooked, not just heated up." And if you try to correct her on this point, she will dismiss you out of hand immediately.
>"Burger King doesn't paint grill marks on their Whoppers. That's bullshit, Anon!"
>"How do I know?... Cause they don't taste like paint---that's how I know!"
>"Now shut up and give me my chicken fries."

Adagio is the only one of them that actually tries to incorporate fruits and vegetables into her diet. While Sonata and Aria are busy swiping french fries off of each others' plates, Adagio is the one who is eating her chicken sandwich with two pieces of lettuce in place of a bun. Sometimes, when she's stressed, she'll dip into Sonata's candy stash and go on a binge; but this is always followed by a week of extreme dieting.

This only works if the EqG mirror is completely different from our world and girls have to fear invalidation. For example, a woman "deserves" affection only if she's good at something, not merely okay. This only arises under the condition that a person can be shamed for certain kinds of attention. They can only appreciate good company if there's a real risk of bad company.

I wrote about how they probably were feared and hated for what they were>>43449148 here.
Something I hadn't thought about was that if sirens had fed off of arguments that the three different pony races( and the species the ponies interacted with) started to unite and get along, this would put sirens in a dire spot.
They can't feed on their adoration because the ponies fear them, they can't feed on disharmony because everyone is getting along now. They'd have to stir up trouble to not starve.
Someone who came along to willing give them adoration (and angrily rant about stuff so them can feed off of the negativity) despite knowing what they were and what their messy past involved would probably mean a lot them.
A monster, just like every intelligent living thing, craves love and security.
