Wasteland Fest edition

Previous thread: >>43361986

Fallout Equestria, a story that bleeds two franchises together to build something magical. On one side, you have death, destruction, decay, and misery - on the other, you have ponies. Doesn't sound like it should mix? You'd be surprised. When the world around you is wasteland, all you're left with is hope, and as we all know, ponies can do spectacular things with just a little hope.

Read Fallout Equestria by Kkat to appreciate the setting that many writers have then lent upon after being so captivated by the wonders.
The original story which spawned its own fandom can be found here: http://www.fimfiction.net/story/119190/

These next four stories comprise the rest of what is considered "the big 5", alongside the original. They were biggest hitters early in the fandom, be it for having started before many others, their length, or overall quality.

>Heroes:
https://www.fimfiction.net/story/662/

>Murky Number Seven:
https://www.fimfiction.net/story/47300/

Though, a reminder; just because these are the most well known, that isn't to say that there aren't other stories out there! There are many hidden gems that simply don't get the love they deserve purely because people don't give them the chance. Why not open your heart and try to find a new favorite? Anons are absolutely welcomed and encouraged to return with fic discussion of even the most obscure fics!

Staff Sergeant Granite lowered his binoculars, ducked through the hatch and promptly banged his head on the lip of the commanders’ cupola. The earth stallion hissed and squeezed his eyes shut as pain blossomed across his forehead. With a hoof at his temple, he slowly opened his eyes to find himself staring at a cheese sandwich.

His gunner, Sergeant Bright Spark, was seated beside him, holding the sandwich out to him and chewing vigorously. “Want one?” the yellow unicorn uttered through his full mouth.

“Stow it, sergeant,” Granite muttered, still holding his head. “Enemy armor ahead. Prepare to engage.”

The gunner’s purple eyes widened and he quickly swallowed, stashed the food and pulled himself into position inside the tank. Willing the pain in his forehead away, Sergeant Granite closed the commanders’ hatch and pressed his eyes into the vision periscope beside it. The pony gulped as he visually confirmed the target he had found just seconds ago. His hoof keyed the tank’s radio as he reached for the microphone.

“Commander, this is two-three.”

“Two-three, this is command, go ahead,” came the female drawl of his tank platoon’s commanding officer.

“Enemy armor spotted. Type 50. Request permission to load bypass and engage.”

There was a pause. Then: “Copy two-three, permission granted. Load bypass and engage.”

Sergeant Granite flipped to the internal coms. “Driver, stop! Turret traverse right!”

“Stopping!” came the reply. Their tank’s spark engine whined as the vehicle crunched to an idling halt in the middle of the road. There was a loud whir as the turret turned, spinning them inside with it. Their main gun spun to point at the small abandoned village located a quarter mile off the highway.

“Right side of the village! Target!” Sergeant Granite barked at his gunner.

“Identified!” Sergeant Bright Spark echoed back, his eyes glued to the main gun’s sights. Granite could hear the sudden tension in his voice.

Nestled on the outskirts of the village was a Type 50 zebra tank. The 50s were real terrors. The most advanced armor the stripes had fielded yet, armed with missiles, machine guns and a pair of massive rifled cannons. The thing was enormous, with thick slabs of armor that Equestrian cannons could barely penetrate on a good day. And even if they did score a hit, the in-built repair talisman would fix the damage in seconds.

The enemy tank was sitting idle, its guns pointing to the side, under a lean-to beside a vacant industrial garage. It would have been easy to miss, save for the zebras’ habit of painting their military equipment with bright black and white stripes. Their own Mark 6 battle tank was painted a much more sensible shade of drab tan-yellow to match the scrubby savanna they had been driving through.
>>
>>43458383
Granite swallowed, feeling the fear in his belly. They probably had only a few seconds to make this kill before the enemy engaged them. A part of him wanted to break off, find cover on the other side of the highway. Wait for the rest of their armored column to arrive. Let the rest of the platoon handle it. Instead he barked out, “Gunner, sabot, tank!”

Behind Bright Spark a burly white unicorn spun in place, pulling an armor-piercing shell from the ammo rack and loading it into the gun breech. Specialist Steel Gaze could work just as fast with levitation magic, but he made it a point of pride to load every shell by hoof. “UP!” their loader shouted as the breech was slammed shut.

“FIRE!” Granite ordered. There was a great whump as the main gun fired, rocking their tank to one side. The staff sergeant rushed to his periscope to sight the glowing 105 millimeter shell as it flew downrange – smashing into the garage next to the tank and sending up a cloud of dust and debris.

“Reengage!”

Granite’s guts clenched as the zebra tank’s turret twitched, then slowly spun towards them. “Gunner, sabot, tank!” he shouted, fighting to keep his tone from rising. “UP!” the loader bellowed as a fresh shell was rammed into their gun.

“It’s looking at us!” Bright Spark moaned, his voice filling with dread. The Type 50’s twin cannons were now pointing directly at them.

“FIRE!” Granite shouted back at him. And hit the damned thing this time!

Whump! Their main gun fired, and another incandescent shell arced towards the target. There was a thin puff of smoke as the sabot impacted on the tank’s sloped front glacis. A hit! Did it penetrate? At this range it was hard to tell before-

There was a twin flash as the zebra tank’s cannons fired. “Brace!” Sergeant Granite screamed to his crew, pressing himself into the padded commander’s seat a moment before the tank shook. Finding himself still alive, he glanced through his periscope to catch a rain of dirt and dust from two shell impacts at the edge of the highway, about twenty feet in front of them.

“Reengage! Gunner, bypass, tank!” There was no way they’d survive a hit from one of those cannons. They needed to kill that thing now!

Steel Gaze lunged towards the ammo rack to drag out their bypass shell. It was the newest bit of ordinance from Arcane Sciences – a high explosive charge enchanted with magic allowing it to phase through thick armor and detonate inside. Each tank in their platoon had only one of them, and they had to get special permission to fire it. The sparkly purple canister shell glinted under the tank’s gemlights as it was loaded. “Up!” the specialist huffed, panting from exertion.

“Shoot!” Granite commanded, his heart pounding. “Fire, FIRE!”
>>
>>43458387
Whump. The staff sergeant’s eyes were glued to his periscope as the bypass shell arced downrange, leaving a faint trail of glittering magic. The purple-tinted projectile vanished as it reached the Type 50’s hull. A microsecond later a gout of flame shot up from the tank’s top hatch. The striped tank was suddenly wrenched apart, its hull crumpling as its massive turret was blown off, landing upside down beside it. A fiery explosion enveloped the tank and the garage it was sheltering by. A moment later the shock wave and roar of the detonation reached their own vehicle.

Staff Sergeant Granite flinched as Bright Spark let out a long, whooping call. “Yeeeah!” the stallion shouted. “Direct hit!”

“Cease fire,” Granite uttered, then let out the breath he had been holding. His hoof reached for the radio microphone. “Commander, this is two-three. Enemy target destroyed. Requesting backup to secure this area.”

“Copy two-three, well done,” his CO replied. “Hold position, we’ll come to you. Command out.”

He switched to internal coms again. “Traverse left. Driver, turn right and reverse. Get us into cover behind the roadway.”

Granite let out slow, deliberate breaths, his heart rate returning to normal as the turret swung back to center and the engine flared up. He spared a glance to the rest of his crew. Sergeant Bright Spark was grinning ear to ear, still twitching with adrenaline as he fidgeted in his seat. Specialist Steel Gaze was smiling placidly, forelegs draped over the gun breech, his chest and forehead damp with sweat. That engagement went about as good as it could have. If they had taken longer to range the target, or if the enemy gunner had been luckier, this armored machine would be their tomb right now.

The tank commander sighed as the tank backed into the scrubby brush besides the elevated highway. In another twenty minutes the other four tanks in his platoon would be here to help secure that village. Hopefully their kill was just a straggler, cut off from the zebras’ main force as the Equestrian Army rolled through this province. Even if it did have support, the platoon would have more than enough firepower to deal with them.

Staff Sergeant Granite managed a thin smile as his tank settled into cover. He glanced again at the column of oily smoke rising from the village, his would-be tomb back to feeling like an impenetrable mobile fortress again.

Da Rules:
>Littlepip starts out as an earth pony with 4 in every SPECIAL, no tag skills, and the small frame trait
>the watch can transform her into into any 10 pre war creatures of your choosing, for ten minutes and then it has a ten minute cooldown. The warning for when it's about to time out starts ten seconds before she detransforms. And the red and green flashes are very loud and visible. No extra time or other shenanigans for dramatic effect like in the show.
>when she transforms, the state of her new body reflects the state she was in when she hit the button, and reverts her back to that state when she detransforms. For example if she's healthy as an earth pony, transforms and then gets wounded, when she transforms back she'll be healthy again. But it also works the other way around, where she can start out hurt as soon as she transforms if she was already hurt. And if she heals in that form, it gets wasted as soon as she turns back.
>she turns into a gigachadess version of whatever creature she turns into, and her new form's physical maturity reflects whatever equivalent that species has to her base form's. For example since she's a young adult, if she turned into a dragon she'd probably be around the same age, and therefore similar size, as Princess Ember, rather than that of an elder dragon like her father. There is no pony equivalent to an Elder Dragon's physical maturity, save for if she was an older alicorn like Celestia.
>Speaking of alicorns you can choose one to be in her playlist, but she would have to learn how to fly and use magic herself because as we see in season 4 with Twilight, alicorns don't actually come with built in instincts on how to use their new parts. And of course if she was an alicorn she'd be around the same age as Twilight.
>if you choose a draconaques, or whatever the fuck Discord is, it's like her alien x. She can't control it because it changes her personality as she has become a spirit of chaos. She also can't kill her enemies in this form because nothing is less chaotic than a corpse. Also, there's a chance she might get stuck in this form forever, if as a draconaqus she decides to remove the time out function from her watch.
>if she turns into whatever Tirek is, she starts out in that super weak form and must consume magic to get strong. If she detransforms while still holding magic from another pony, that magic, and their cutie mark, are erased from existence.
>she cannot turn into a changeling because the watch already works by reverse engineered changeling magic in this universe.
>she can turn into animals or less intelligent creatures, and suffers a mental debuff if she does. Her personality also changes depending on her form.
>the watch cannot be hacked for extra powers like in the show, it's only capable of it's base abilities.
>and if she dies in any form, she's dead dead.
>>
>>43493984
Sounds extremely complicated. I'm sure you could do some cracked shit with this, but I got nothing.
>>
>>43493984
Tranforming into a griffon or a dragon is the strongest. You get wings, physical strength and hands for all kind of weapons.
Another interesting option is to transform into a diamond dog for effortless movement through solid matter while still having hands for setting explosives or lockpicking/hacking.

I don't want to get lost in the weeds of the nature vs nurture of it, but is it even a fitting cutie mark for a rape expert? Shouldn't it be chains or some cheeky metaphor of insemination? Hearts are usually about love in general. Is it possible to get a cutie mark that makes you good at everything related to love by raping somebody?
>>
>>43494791
>is it even a fitting cutie mark for a rape expert
That's the cutie mark you get if the raped mare has heart-shaped pupils by the time you're done with her.
Also it's an arrow in a heart, which is a good enough metaphor for penetration.
>>

If you're going for just power there are way better options. Ursa Major, Sea Serpent, Windigo, Siren, the fucking Tantubus thingy. Even a minotaur would be stronger than a griffin. However I think what's ironic is that in this setting it would have probably been created as a weapon, but Pip would probably get the most use out of it by using it as a diplomacy/empathy machine which is what is was made for in the original show. Zebras and Griffons are great choices for her. She honestly only needs one really strong creature, maybe a Hydra. Fuck actually now that I think about it are the stars themselves creatures? Damn that would be crazy.

Even in this hypothetical dude is a real one. Calamity is just a bro. I personally don't get the ship but their friendship is awesome.
>>
>>43496595
Actually wait this is really interesting to think about. If Littleshit can go princess mode, does she actually think she's a goddess, or does this ability allow her to come around to Calamity's way of thinking sooner and become an atheist? Also, does she have to go through a narcissism arc if she thinks she can become a goddess? And her alicorn form would actually be much easier to turn into a symbol for ponies to rally behind than her little 02 symbol in the mane universe. Also I guess in this setting she'd be from stable 10 just for themeing purposes.

It's been a while! Read here to catch up: https://ponepaste.org/12078

“You’re the only one of us who can talk the pants off a stallion.”
>You nodded at Aurelia.
>Her ears pressed against her head as a hint of red rose to her cheeks.
>”Oh, you flatterer!”
>She swatted a hoof at you and took a sip of her beer.
>”Besides, you weren’t wearing pants when we met.”
>Resting her chin on her hoof, she batted her eyelashes at you and flashed a smug smile.
>”Uhh, so what exactly did you do before I got there?”
>Star had a twitchy smile on her lips as her gaze flitted between you and Aurelia.
>You drew breath to answer, but the zebra was faster.
>”Oh, nothing much. We just had some… fun in the basement. I found an age old survival shelter that had a good bed in it.”
>Her voice was deeper and more sensual than usual.
>Then, all of a sudden, she covered her muzzle with a hoof and let out a giggle as Star turned deep red.
>”There was a ghoul in there. We helped him and his family move on from this world. And then looted the place. Where did you think the spam came from?”
>Star’s ears rose up slowly as she shifted her focus from the queen to you.
>Her jaw hung open and she was still beet red.
>You chuckled and rolled your eyes.
“I wanted to just shoot the feral, but she insisted we help it move on. So that’s what we did. I guess it left me feeling a bit better in the end but I’m not sure what exactly it accomplished.”

>You were halfway into your second beers when Aurelia excused herself and headed into the room you had for the night.
>A few other ponies had got there by then and it was starting to resemble a proper bar, with music from the jukebox and ponies with a bit of booze in them chatting.
>”They’re all getting along just fine. Why does it have to be limited to places like this?”
>Star’s voice was quiet and mellow, almost drowned out by the noise.
>You took a quick glance around the room.
>There were you, the Steel Rangers, the two scavengers who were there before you, a larger group of what looked like farmers, a lone scarred merc alone in a corner table, and a group that had to be a merchant with her guards.
“Simple. There’s nopony here who benefits from harming others.”
>Pointing a hoof at the sour-faced merc, you turned to look at Star.
“He looks scary, but mercs can’t get proper jobs if they have a reputation of violence. Who’d hire a guard who starts shooting out of the blue or, even worse, could rob you?”

>Strutting hoofsteps marked Aurelia’s return just as you were about to finish explaining why the scavengers preferred not to shoot either.
>A faint, exotic floral scent hit your snout before you craned your neck to see her in her stunning purple dress.
>You weren’t the only one whose attention she caught with how the dress emphasized how she had touch of softness around her hips and how she swung all that around.
>She was, with a word, regal.
>>
>>43508342

>She had a sly smile on her lips as she glanced at you while pulling back her chair.
>”Star, my dear. Would you help me with my mane? It’s terribly difficult to do it all on my own.”
>Sticking a hoof behind her neck, she flicked her long, smooth mane onto the table, earning more than one long stare from around the bar.
>Including, you noticed, from the Ranger scribe.
>”Of course! How do you want it? Just braided, like usual?”
>Aurelia took a long swig of her beer and cast an equally long glance at the scribe.
>”I was thinking something fancy for the night. Let your creativity shine!”
>The pegasus pulled her chair closer and pursed her lips as she looked at the queen’s mane.
>You took the moment to have some more of the beer.
>It was neither strong nor tasty, but on the bright side it was at least cheap.

>”All done!”
>You were feeling the buzz when Star finally let go of her masterpiece.
>It was rather simple: a thicker than usual crown braid along the top of her head, with the rest of her mane done in a single straight braid that hung in front of her.
>You were only really into your own species, but she made you feel a tingle in your nethers anyways.
>She had a tiny bit of something on her chest, but that was no real fluff to speak of.
>”Thank you, my dear. I could never have done all that myself.”
>Hopping off her chair, she wrapped a leg around Star and pulled her into a warm hug.
>”Anytime!”
>Star let out a tipsy giggle as Aurelia pulled away.
>”Now let’s see how that cute scribe likes it.”
>She shuffled past you before turning back around.
>”Be good while I’m gone, ladies.”
>Leaning in, she gave you a smooch on the cheek.
>And, as you felt a heat rising to your cheeks, a wink and a chuckle before finally heading off.

>”Sooo…”
>Star had a wide smile on her lips as she pulled her chair right next to yours, close enough you could feel the heat radiating off her.
>”What are you feeling like today?”
>Her gaze flitted to the lone merc in the corner, then to the farmers – three stallions and a mare – close to the middle.
>”If I thought you’re a mare even from close up, how do you think they’ll feel?”
>She giggled again as the tips of her ears turned red.
>”How about we have some fun with it?”

Good to see you back I missed playing this fallout equestria story of yours its very entertaining and intriguing. It's pretty cute seeing Aurelia have a change of hairstyles on her mane it makes her more beautiful with her purple dress and that teasing and flirting she did with Stream and kissing him on the cheek. I hope after she get the information she need from scribe we'll get the option to flirt back at Aurelia and be able to spend a romantic night with her in the same bedroom either in hers or our room making love to the zebra Queen.

I vote we agree with Star idea, but Aurelia told us to be good so let's behave ourselves and not cause any trouble the last thing we need is to get kicked out of the bar from the barkeep or have Aurelia tried to bail us out from a violent situation. Let's go talk to the lone merc with our beers and see if they might have some useful information, we could use on our journey about any unforseen surprising dangers that might pop up out of nowhere to attack us, so we can be more careful on our travels.

She was exiled after losing her brother when his curiosity led him to go below the cloud layer. She had no interest in helping the ponies below, but condemned her father for not going to save him. She refused to go back and ended up in San Franciscolt, where there's no constant cloud layer over the city.

As for the zebra, San Franciscolt is basically on the border of the zebra lands, so many remnants of the war have taken place in the city. A zebra zeppelin had crashed in the city, and many of them created a settlement called Kesho. But these specific dead zebras weren't part of Kesho; Just their own group with their own motives.

Zebra lands being a giant continent connected to Equestria by a mountainous land bridge to the west makes the most sense.

The real question is where the fuck Hoofington would be on the map.
>>
>>43512447
North Luna Ocean would be the best bet. If I recall it was connected to the ocean and was quite near the front lines. Fits too since its where Luna's castle is. BUT they took a boat on the sea all the way to Manehattan so who the fuck knows?
>>
>>43512472
I guess Hoofington only works if there's a sea passage through northern Equestria, where the Crystal Empire is supposed to be.

Why did Somber never put out a map of the Horizons-verse lands?
>>

Because it would have changed six times by the time he hit Thunderhead arc alone, not even including the scattershot kaleidoscope resulting from like four sequels, none of which written by the him that finished the fic.

I created my own map a bit ago that I think is BETTER and AWESOME just cause I'm that cool.
