Trixie never made sense with either pony really, she's toxic and devolves both relationships to the basic "im the clown the staight-man has to tard wrangle". Starlight and Twilight just have more interesting chemistry, both in their interests and in where they differ, Twilight's autistic by the book nature contrasts perfectly with Starlight's out of the box ingenuity, her appeal to authority contrasting against a free-spirited independent thinker, hard line goodytwo shoes against a mare willing to cross moral lines for the greater good. Combined with their similarities in research, magic, and taking charge they complement each other in every way and present many opportunities to learn from each other's strengths and weaknesses. Although they're in a power dynamic, because they're of similar age there isn't that awkward grooming feel that Celestia imposes, and because there isn't as huge a gap between them in terms of magical ability they're able to help each other grow more effectively. Twistar is a very underrated ship.
