I'd hand the gmod server to another anon who can manage it and work on documenting the gmod and s&box server on gitlab. I got s&box for free since I was an alpha tester and been following it since 2017 so I'm biased but from the state of launch and the various changes they made I was very disappointed, today they launched a native linux build which is a good start for me.there's so many issues with s&box I don't even know where to begin but at the same time I've seen many things I've enjoyed and extreme potential (again being very biased here ).I wished I had the programming and modelling skills to rig up a pony server rn but I don't and I'm not resorting to vibe coding to solve this, I have written down a bunch of notes and dreams I have for the server. I believe most of them are partially possible already but the documentation on the s&box website is sparse. Every update from s&box I've seen has actually been an improvement, there's a roadmap for future plans on the site. I hate it when garry and his team write these massive rants in some of their posts though, just terrible stuff. Ideally I'd name this version of the server Smares and have a smore themed pony, more talented people than me will probably create a pony creator before I even seriously start to begin.

Basically sandbox is an poorly optimized mess with only a smidge of potential right now, all the "gamemodes" (Murder,TTT,Prophunt) are standalone games unrelated to 'sandbox' itself so everything custom you add on the server (ala sandbox) won't be transferred to the next game which for example would make ponies in TTT impossible (as far as I know) unless you make a custom fork with pony models built into TTT. It's cool they made the 'Sandbox' game open-source, there's already forks that add new features but I'll wait until 'Sandbox' matches 1:1 with gmod sandbox (addon support, custom playermodels, gamemode support) until I try anything.Okay cool, let's say eventually facepunch or whoever (since it's open-sourced) matches S&box's sandbox game to Gmod's sandbox gamemode, happy days. What then? obviously we need ponied. I want to keep this GMOD server up forever, even though I think s&box has more potential GMOD is still it's entirely own game and in the end people will probably prefer GMOD over s&box anyway, though if this dream does come true someday I'd give this server to someone I can trust to handle it while I move to the s&box server.

It's very frustrating at the moment, for now you'd need to port the models into the game itself.Look at Terry for example (the sausage men) I've grown to like them... a little, they're not great for every game but they fit well in TTT, Murder and Sandbox. The common argument for people against wanting to play as them is "WELL YOU DON'T HAVE TO BRO, THERE'S HUMAN MODELS ALREADY!" The thing is Terry is the default character that many games have, a lot of those games have the Terry model as the ONLY character you can play because creating new models over even switching to the humans ones (which look just as funky desu) is too hard I suppose. There's no simple way to switch these models out for new ones if you're playing on your own server yet.
