Evil Glimmy in the morning
A worthy 10/10 episode. Starlight finally opening up her feelings to Mari and showing genuine care for her is super adorable, I'm looking forward to seeing more of that. The only thing I felt was missing was the band playing during the Titanic sinking, it would've been the perfect gag. Fuck what Celestia says, Glimmy is the best band member in my heart!>>43493598UNF

>>43496165>>43496347Perhaps it would be better if he linked the collection in a 3rd party site like a public google drive and only post the highest quality frames? I think that's what an anon did back when the show was still running.

Why did the writers think Cozy couldn't be redeemed by Starlight?
>>43502504They forgot completely. A consistent theme to her character arc in every season from 5 to 7 is in showing empathy to the villain. Starlight was clearly being setup as the key to reform Chrysalis and possibly others like Tirek. Glimmy would never have let Twilight send Cozy to jail or let the trio be stoned. But the moment McCarthy returns with her movie and the final two seasons all hell breaks loose, she ruins everything she touches.
>>43502600I really wanted a Chrysalis episode which has Chrysalis explain, very, VERY clearly, that she's not rejecting friendship out of spite. She's rejecting it because she's terrified of becoming something other than what she knows. Maybe she doesn't feel happiness, but she's comfortable with the bug she is because she's been the way she is for so long. Having a sudden transformation like Thorax is horrific because she won't know what she'll become. If it's a worse existence, then she abandoned her principles for nothing and will have to live with that regret. If it's a better existence, then she has to live with knowing she wasted centuries suffering for no good reason. It's not unlike how real people refuse to get the help they need because they're scared of what will happen next. Glimmy was shown where her path was taking her thanks to time travel, but Chrysalis doesn't get that harsh reality check. All she gets is knowing that more and more of her brood keep leaving her for "friendship", analogously to how Glimmy kept losing friends to their cutie marks.

>>43531300I looked it up>The Izzet League, also called the Magewrights, is a guild from the plane and city of Ravnica, led by the dragon genius Niv-Mizzet, the Firemind. Members of the guild are brilliant but whimsical scientists and wizards who pursue magical experiments with reckless enthusiasm, often jumping from one idea to another. They are responsible for civic works like water systems and roadways, but their true passion lies in discovery, invention, and spellcraft. The guild embodies a mix of mad science and magical innovation, making it one of the most creative and unpredictable factions in the game.>In essence, Izzet represents creativity, chaos, and spell-focused gameplay in Magic: The Gathering. Its decks reward players who enjoy combining spells, drawing cards, and executing complex combos, while its lore emphasizes the guild’s role as inventive, unpredictable, and intellectually driven wizards in RavnicaSeems quite fitting to Glimmy, neat. I always loved her enthusiasm and creativity in magic. In combining, modifying, and creating new spells she seeks to understand the mechanics of magic on a deep level, without letting "safety measures" hold her back too hard towards progress to a better future.

Of course, we desire to look upon beauty and that's why high quality art is highly valued, but any insoled human can look upon low quality art and still respect it based solely on the fact that some person put effort into creating something. Some person drew this fridge art because they wanted to create something. I respect creation and those who engage in it.You can't discount quality entirely though. I'd say it's a balancing act between effort, intent, and quality, and that's what art should be judged by

>>43553863Yeah I disregard the Friendship School as is. But headmare Glimmy is so sexy. So I just headcanon her as a Headmare of school that's still called the Friendship School but it's not to learn about friendship it's just like a regular school, that still has creatures in it because I like to self insert as a 16yr old human male delinquent that rizzes up hag Glimmy and sexes her.
>>43554272Same but I imagine myself as her concealed underdesk pet that she has somehow snuck onto the payroll.
>>43554336>you are eating out headmare glimmy as she tries to maintain herself and hide your presence to discuss the state of the school with Twilight
>>43553863I'd immensely prefer Glimmy completing her princess arc, but I kinda like the friendship school despite its flaws. It's a lot more interesting than EqG's boring default highschool setting at least. The only thing I found a little strange was Twilight's friends being full-time teachers but it's a fantasy school in a fantasy world so it's easy to imagine their work hours are very lenient. Creatures never bothered me since I'm an avid fantasy world enjoyer, before MLP I had already explored hundreds of other fantasy worlds and having different races and cultures are just part of the charm to me.But yeah I like to imagine Starlight becoming a princess to rule alongside Twilight as her Luna (or Celestia since honestly I think Starlight is more suited to being a leader than Twilight) since it would have been more appropriate for someone as magically talented as her and to the overall story of FiM as a whole. Becoming headmare completes her arc well enough though which is why I'm not really against it: from cult leader professing a misguided view of friendship to headmare teaching young minds the real magic of friendship is still a great arc (and shaping the young minds who will become the future of Equestria is a powerful influence over the world in itself).Other fun scenarios I like to fantasize with Glim Glam is becoming the "Starswirl" of the modern era, being a mother to a magical prodigy in Luster Dawn, reforming the legion of doom and/or adopting Cozy Glow, the m6 never coming to Our Town, getting her cutie mark at the same time as Sunburst and going to CSGU together, and more. Out of all the ponies, I think Glimmy has the most to work with in terms of possibilities and what-ifs. If only I was any good at writing fanfiction..
I gotta rewatch the show. Wasn't there an episode with starswirl travelling back through time that could've potentially tied into starlight's future if they decided to go that way?
>>43555791There's only a flashback of him banishing the sirens and PoS.However, there's so many hints to Glimmy being the descendent of Starswirl.>Magic-based cutie mark in the image of a star and swirl>Is very talented and passionate about magic>Messed with cutie marks like Starswirl>Can modify spells created by Starswirl>Can read Starswirl's messy hornwriting>both had friendship problems in some form>both have worked with the princesses in some way>both are loved by TwilightStarlight is practically all but confirmed to be part of his bloodline kind of like how AJ's parents is all but confirmed dead.
>>43556010I'm digging into this theory. Now let's have cross millenia incest thread.
'uv 'lim 'imple 'as
>>43556010The sad thing about Starlight is that she was a good character who was introduced at a time where every character was being absolutely fumbled. She barely got time to establish herself before the absolute enshittening that was season 8.I would have rewinded it all back to cutie remark. Instead of her motivation being "my friend changed schools" that event would have just been a catalyst for a spiral of isolation and echochambering. We needed to have some exploration of that part of her life, a flashback story to how she got her cutie mark at least. Could have a cool twist on the life changing epiphany the mane 6 experience when getting their cutie mark where she misinterprets and obsesses and it only ends up drawing her AWAY from her life's purpose. And of course there shouldn't have been a timeskip between season 5 and 6. Her befriending trixie and maud is actually great. I have no problem with that. I love how she kinda acts like she's never had a friend before with trixie. And how it expands the distinction between her and twilight where they're both nerds but where twilight is a book type nerd, Starlight is a dweeb type nerd.In a better show Starlight would have found her place like the mane 6. All of them have an occupation that integrates them into the small community of ponyville and helps to build out the world that they live in. What I'm saying is that she should have gotten her own little house and engaged in some kind of productive interest.Trying to settle into cliquey little ponyville, maybe some ponies could catch onto her past just as she's starting to feel like she can forgive herself, and send her into a conflict where she deals with her obvious control issues and wonders if she really has changed.I know Starlight probably wouldn't have existed under Faust, but imagine what a faust written glimmy would have been like. A glimmy that existed in a still grounded world.Actually straight shootin ropes thinking about it.
>>43556631Btw I headcanon all this as fact and cannot be shaken.
>>43556631>"my friend changed schools"That's a silly oversimplification that overlooks all context of what happened and Starlight's feelings, but still better than "ponies went to sleep like normal mammals" or "my homework is late". She was abandoned as a foal by her only friend and suffered trauma over it, that is the reality of it. Starlight is one of the few with grounded and relatable motivations and one of the only motives even related to friendship that the show is supposed to be about.>that event would have just been a catalyst for a spiral of isolation and echochambering. That's exactly what it was as per the butterfly effect. She grew up lonely, scared, and feeling inferior to her peers. It's easy [for me] to imagine how she wasn't able to make real friends especially without the proper emotional support to help her. >We needed to have some exploration of that part of her lifeI and many others fully understood her feelings as is, but I'd never turn down more Glimmy, the more the glimmier! The show being vague about stuff never bothered me too much though, it just presents me with opportunities to imagine what happens myself. Here's an easy example: Starlight was reliant on Sunburst's help in teaching her magic, after she lost him she was stuck as a late blooming blank flank, struggling to learn magic on her own at first and being made fun of by bullies who had their cutie marks.>a flashback story to how she got her cutie mark at leastWould've been cool if done right. The m6's cutie mark stories were pretty disappointing, they got cucked for Rainbow Dash's sake and by needing to squeeze all six into one episode, but the rainboom connection was nice at least.>And of course there shouldn't have been a timeskip between season 5 and 6Unfortunately she was just a side character connected to Twilight who wasn't allowed to interact with the m6 much, which is a shame because she already had more depth than most of the m6. However, she was never going to truly be part of the group because it's just way too late for that and only 6 elements exist and I would dislike retconning the lore to add a 7th element simply for her sake, she would never have the special connection the m6 have in facing NMM together and gaining their cutie marks together. The only reason Shimmer could do that is because none of the writers cared about the lore and the humane 5 were blank slates with no past or connection so Shimmer could swooce in to become their leader.>Her befriending trixie and maud is actually greatAgreed, to further my previous point, that's why Glimmy has her own friend circle that she shares a special connection with, which is also a much more grounded connection that doesn't involve saving the world from eternal darkness or rainboom shenanigans. Glim Glam is one of the most realest characters in the show and that's one of the reasons she's as popular as she is even as an obscure late season character that many fans have no idea about.
>>43556631>All of them have an occupation that integrates them into the small communityTechnically, Twilight didn't have a real occupation either until she became a princess, she was just a nebulous student with no clear goal or ambitions reading books and messing around all day. I think Starlight being a student was done better then when Twilight was a student since she had better motivations for it and she is an altruist who wants to make the world a better place.>What I'm saying is that she should have gotten her own little house and engaged in some kind of productive interest.Sounds cute, and she's the type to excel in or overdo in whatever she puts her mind to. The occupation that instantly comes to mind is a hobby shop owner. Board games, kites, trading cards, O&O, everything both kids and adults enjoy playing. It's where Glim Glam's childhood innocence can shine, and she's always been great with kids. And at the same time it's where she can freely be autistic all she wants because of the competitive elements and depth a lot of hobbies have. It's the most ideal normal occupation I can think for her that fits all of her quirks.>but imagine what a faust written glimmy would have been likeI don't think she'd be much different actually, she is the most Faust-like out of any late season character. If Starlight appeared in S1 with even the same motives, I'd bet she'd be just as popular as Luna. It was just a different time, and the mentality of the audience was drastically different. Fans used to love expanding on emotional characters like Luna despite her having a silly motivation, and Starlight has a lot more to work with as a character so she would've gotten soooo much fanwork just like Luna. It's sad to think about how McCarthy ruined a lot of what Faust built up and that disillusioned many fans before Starlight even had the chance to walk.
> Starlight was reliant on Sunburst's help in teaching her magic, after she lost him she was stuck as a late blooming blank flank, struggling to learn magic on her own at first and being made fun of by bullies who had their cutie marks. Can't say I'm a fan of this idea. By the time Starlight lost Sunburst she was already better than most adult unicorns at magic by a lot. Even if most of what we see her doing as a filly is just levitation, it's still telekinesis at around a Rarity level. It's also counter to her main character idea.Starlight might have been a late bloomer when she was very very young but her big problem has always been the interplay between having a hammer that makes everything else look like nails combined with a traumatic experience of watching a round peg slip away from her down a square hole. With her rash personality and ability to force things, she's constantly vacillating between solving 'problems' and thinking that nopony has the right to do so (and beating herself up over it).If Starlight was getting bullied for being a blank flank the more likely childhood story is that her reprisal was too extreme and left her socially isolated. Because she doesn't confidently use her power when she's not keyed up (until after seasons of character development) it's not possible for her to become cool by being the best because she refuses to perform that role while the memory of what she does when she is active is still going to create that fear and distance.
>>43556865Starlight was indeed naturally talented but it was Sunburst's guidance that helped her make use of it at first. So there was a short transition period after she lost Sunburst where she had to actually learn how to bring out that talent on her own, and being in a depressed state made that even harder on her.She also didn't believe in herself very much, she had a low self-esteem and lots of insecurities. She assumed Sunburst was a more competent and important wizard than her even after everything she'd accomplished. There's a 10-15 year gap we can only speculate on with the facts that we have and getting bullied at one point is a very plausible experience. What hardship she faced throughout her life growing up in regard to how differences cause heartache shaped her ideology bit by bit.And yeah she also developed an emotional dependency on her magic as it's the one thing she has control over. There's many layers to her backstory that explain how she came to be.

>>43556844I wrote a whole response than accidentally deleted it so I'll keep it short.>"ponies went to sleep like normal mammals" absolutely makes sense if you look at her like the demigod that she was, i mean this is the equestria where nature doesn't really exist, they could have slept in the day anyway.>"my homework is late"I don't know who this refers to.The two parters are some of the worst parts of the series though, just because the pacing is always terrible, resulting in a cop out resolution almost every single time. The other problem with the friend leaving motivation for Starlight is that she IS more of a real person than the heavily archetypical mane 6 (that doesn't mean she has more depth.) but she definitely isn't more grounded. If anything it makes the stated motivation more retarded because really her friend leaving is just the kind of thing you get over as you get older. It could have been a more interesting and rarely told (sympathetically) story about isolation. Sires hollow seems tiny anyway, I could imagine it having no ponies her age.>>43556865Problem with the way the later seasons treat cutie marks (I actually think the m6 cutie mark episode was great) is that they lose a lot of what they originally were. You literally have ponies going to camps to try as many things as they can so they can see what they're good at.Originally it had more depth than that, it was more than finding a talent, it was like a spiritually significant moment where the pony had a life changing epiphany and realized WHO she was meant to be. It was a lot more magical. Almost makes me think she should have been revealed to not really have her cutie mark at all, or maybe even introduced the concept of having an incomplete cutie mark. We're lucky that most of the character fuck ups with Starlight were through omission rather than the outright character assassination that a lot of the mane 6 suffered.
>>43558005>absolutely makes sense if you look at her like the demigod that she wasI disagree, she's supposed to be an ancient and wise being with the knowledge of how her own society works and the maturity to run a country, not a retard with an education that doesn't even meet pre-school standards.>I don't know who this refers to.Twilight. I explained how LZ was a poorly written episode earlier in the thread.>The two parters are some of the worst parts of the series thoughI disagree, the S5 two-parters and S6 finale are some of my favorite episodes in the show, those three are very well-written. We simply have different preferences here.>that doesn't mean she has more depthI wasn't implying that being more real and grounded alone gave her more depth. She has more depth total. To be fair I think Dashie and Rarity are around her level, but they had way more episodes.>just the kind of thing you get over as you get olderDo not speak for me. I experienced a similar trauma to Starlight, I lost people very dear to me in my childhood that I've still never truly gotten over even after nearly 30 years later. I used to be a Pinkie Pie hyperactive class clown type of kid, but overtime I transformed into a timid little Fluttershy full of anxiety. Emotional scars aren't like cuts or bruises, they don't just magically heal overtime back to normal working order, they can permanently change a person even if they become numb to it or try to bury it. Starlight is the most relatable pony to me in the show, and her trauma is portrayed quite real for a kids cartoon show and handled with respect. Abandonment and loss aren't jokes to laugh at, they are serious afflictions especially to a child's developing mind.Just saying "get over it" is a very poor argument anyway because that can be applied to literally every problem. And just because you personally would have reacted differently doesn't invalidate anyone else's feelings. I could say I'd never try to kill someone over jealousy to be number one, but that doesn't invalidate Luna's feelings.>Problem with the way the later seasons treat cutie marks is that they lose a lot of what they originally wereI think you may be overestimating the early seasons. The main character, Twilight, doesn't even earn her cutie mark anywhere remotely close to the way you describe. AJ's is the only decent one I kinda liked that's about figuring out who she is, and maybe Pinkie. The rest was slop.>You literally have ponies going to camps to try as many things as they can so they can see what they're good at.Trying new things is actually a great way in trying to find out who one is though. Sitting around doing nothing accomplishes nothing.>Almost makes me think she should have been revealed to not really have her cutie mark at allMy view of Starlight's cutie mark is one similar to how I see Celestia's. An empathetic leader who cares about her people and wants to make the world a harmonious place. That's who she is.
Glimmy had to go to the store
dont worry everypony glimmy fixed the timeline!
>>43558299>she's supposed to be an ancient and wise beingThe whole thing is intentionally reminiscent of some kind of greek mythology. A larger than life kind of aspect.>explained earlier in the thread>He likes ELTSDBreh>S5 two-parters and S6 finaleThese are some of the more ok 2 parters but the s5 finale has that same recurring pacing issue where the final act is squeezed into maybe the last minute of the episode.>She has more depth total. This is rude and untrue.>Do not speak for me.Did you have a friend go to another school and decide to hate all difference because of its vague connection to that event? This basically happens to everyone when they move from primary to high school and it's not a big deal *on its own*What I'm saying is that there must have/should have been more to it.>Twilight's cutie markIt's not a personal crossroad but it is a lifechanging moment, she realizes her magical ability for the first time and becomes celestias student.Really they were all really good except for rarity.>Trying new things is actually a great way in trying to find out who one is thoughNah nigga it sucks ass, it reducing something that is supposed to be spiritual and magical into something mechanical.>My view of Starlight's cutie mark Should she have earned it while doing something evil? Actually thinking about it imagine she was a blankflank well into adulthood and got her cutie mark while dictating her town, suddenly having to rush and hide it. Would be interesting.
>>43558938>reminiscent of some kind of greek mythologyThat only leads to another contradiction: A moon goddess would understand the value of a good night's rest and sweet dreams and take pride in whatever symbolism the moon represents in their culture. An easy fix to her backstory is making Celestia the aggressor trying to undermine Luna's importance. There needed to be a disruption in the status quo that would cause Luna to become upset.>final act is squeezed into maybe the last minute of the episode. That's the entire show in a nutshell. I don't have much problems with the show's pacing.>This is rudeNot really rude to point out that some characters have more to them than others, and Glim Glam does it in a fraction of the time because she was intentionally built with multiple character arcs in mind and she has very little filler episodes. Which pony do you personally think is the most fleshed out?>basically happens to everyoneYou're ignoring the context again. There's also a huge difference between a typical friend and a beloved best friend that one shares a deep irreplaceable bond with. You're sadly treating friendship like a statistic.>It's not a personal crossroad but it is a lifechanging momentEarning a cutie mark is a lifechanging moment for all ponies though, it's a "coming of age" moment in their society. Not everyone is lucky enough to be as privileged as Twilight though, normal everyday ponies aren't going to have that same epic experience. The issue however is that Twilight wasn't even really conscious when her magic went haywire. Then Celestia comes in to deliver a bunch of exposition to Twilight and only then does Twilight "earn" her cutie mark. Twilight didn't realize anything on her own, she blindly believed what someone else told her when Celestia could've been trolling. Twilight had the worst cutie mark story in the entire show in my opinion. That said, my only real problem with cutie marks is how MMC portrayed it, but I can hand-wave it away by it just being a unique side-effect from Starswirl's spell.>it reducing something that is supposed to be spiritual and magical into something mechanical. That's how most of the m6 earn their marks though, by performing their talents. All those aspects tie together. Take the haiku pony for example, haikus are a form of poetry and poets are deep thinkers that try to understand the world and express it in creative ways. Through haiku she was spiritually awakened. It's not any different to Dashie going fast and realizing she loves to go fast.>Should she have earned it while doing something evil? That doesn't really work. It's not a spiritual awakening because she's masking her pain and insecurities during that period, she wasn't in the right mindset to grow. It's the opposite: a spiritual repression. Her cm would have to come after she realizes her ideology was wrong and reforms, so instead of being chased out of town, the villagers successfully have an intervention with her.

Ponies who don't understand Glimmy's trauma are the kind of ponies aren't the kind of ponies I want to be around.
>>43568279I'd like to think most of them pretend to be retarded for petty reasons such as "she stole my waifu's spot in the show" and "she outsmarted my waifu", but because the show attracted so many neurodivergent bronies, there's a frightening reality that many of them are genuine psychopaths, including the fact that many of them never had real friendships before and have never truly loved anyone in their lives so they literally cannot comprehend what losing a loved one feels like. I don't think that necessarily makes them bad people, but I wouldn't want to be around them for too long either.
>>43568279"""""trauma"""""kek

>>43565381kek, you've never heard Landslide before? you don't know who the famous "if I hadn't have killed my babies, there'd be no Fleetwood Mac" slut Stevie Nicks is?
I love Glimmy
>>43569169Haven't before, I encountered Landslide randomly while listening to my mom's playlist after dropping her off to the airport.I primarily enjoy video game music and other semi-related lyricless genres. They generally feel more soulful to me and they're an effective vessel for me to lose myself in, stirring my emotions and imagination in many ways.I only actively listened to mainstream music for a short while during highschool. Linkin Park's songs in particular resonated with me a lot since I had a rough childhood.
>>43569169I also don't care about any drama surrounding an artist or their political leanings. If it sounds good or looks cute, that's all that matters to me. I don't really give a shit about who the creator is which is why I don't obsess over Faust either.
>>43569274>>43569287The criticism is that Stevie Nicks is a shitty solo artist and "Landslide" is one of the most-despised boomer schmaltz songs, along with Eric Clapton's "Wonderful Tonight" and Stevie Wonder's "I Just Called to Say I Love You". We're mocking how zoomers have such little culture that they're reaching for the dregs of a previous generation and elevating them to a higher standard, as if cubic zirconium is suddenly diamond.
>>43569432I'll be 40 by the end of the year. I just don't care about pop culture so I don't keep up with it lol. I didn't even know that bronies existed until a few years ago.So those songs got overplayed or something like that? What modern songs today are like that?
>>43569512It's not that it's overplayed, it's that it's objectively bad, but the average person doesn't know it. The reason for that is the vast majority of pop(ular) songs use a four-chord progression. For example:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gWIIIr2Aswhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FvOpPeKSf_4"Landslide" is one such song. Of course, not -all- pop songs use a four-chord progression, but they're still bad because they have zero depth to them beyond evoking the bog-standard normalfag love/regret response, as so:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kPa7bsKwL-c"Landslide" is both of these problems combined, which is why it's an incredibly successful song. It's "ubiquitous" because normalfags have zero depth to their own personality.
>>43569537Out of your examples I like the Lose Control one. The decapitated barbie head earring is also cracking me up.I'm not a musician and I have no idea what four-chords are, but sad songs are usually going to sound a certain way. It'd be a little awkward if it was an upbeat song, no? Can you explain what "depth" means in the context of music?
>>43569639https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5pidokakU4I
>>43569678I'm not familiar with ANY of the songs they're parodying. I guess I just haven't listened to enough 4chords to melt my brain yet. But I can see why you'd get tired of it, there are vidya equivalents like the generic atmospheric orchestra tracks that all sound alike.
>>43569764I'm genuinely envious of the lifestyle that you've lead if you are approaching 40 and you don't know of any of the pop music pieces you were just bombarded with.

>>43580760How did this even become a meme?Glimmy barely had any episodes. I guess she had a bit more than the average side character, she was about Spike-level.
>>43581421The truth of the matter when it comes to Glimmer hatred is that it doesn't stem from hatred of Glimmer. It stems from the hatred mane6fags have for the ultra-flanderizied depictions their waifus received post-s5. They project this hatred onto Glimmy and make shit up about her, like her stealing whole entire seasons, because it's easy and they don't have to accept the fact their waifus sucks.
>>43581421See how Twilight had less (at last) and Starlight started getting more? And it gets even further exacerbated on S7 before the school itself just burns the show down
>>43581659Yeah and also the jealousy from Sh!mmermiggers who wanted their waifu to take over FiM too. The sad part is the m6 aren't anywhere near as "flanderized" in the way they claim. One of the stupidest examples they cite is Dashie pranking Fluttershy, but that's literally in-character for Dashie. Dashie was scaring foals in Nightmare Night, she has no limits. They mistake Dashie standing down against Pinkie as "learning a lesson" when in reality Dashie didn't want to offend her new pranking buddy. 28PL even emphasizes that relationship when Dashie plays the most tamest prank on Pinkie, she only holds back around Pinkie. Dashie is by far my favorite mane six and it's sad how many of her own fans misunderstand her.>>43581727Starlight doesn't ever surpass Twilight or even her friends. And as much as I wish it was the Glimmy show, it wouldn't feel right at all for her to overshadow the element bearers to that extent. The S6 finale was unique in that it was putting the side characters in the spotlight for once which was a wonderful one-time thing. Glim's just a side character, but I'm still happy she got as many as she did.

Your daughter who started her studies as Princess Twilight Sparkle's student. She's now living in her castle...it's only been a month since she moved away but it feels so much longer."Purple menace. Magical devil. What was Sunbutt thinking...">You continue your muttering until a voice stops you...>"I was Twilight's student too, you know.">...Just for a second before you continue, your fingers now squeezing the picture a little tighter."Taking away both of my girls...purple dork...real doctor evil...">A sigh.>"Anon, dear. You're muttering like Twilight is your biggest nemesis. She's our friend.">You put the picture back down and give your daughter a smile. You then turn around to face your wife, who's still in her headmare dress."Starlight, she tried to do human experiments on me.">You clear your throat to do a mocking Twilight imitation."This probe in ape's ass should measure everything needed, teehee.">Starlight lets out another sigh while slowly rolling her eyes.>"That did not happen. She measured whether pony magic was harmful to you. Nothing was anywhere near your bottom.""Could have been. You never know what that crazy librarian turned princess is up to.">Silence. Starlight lets you stew in your own stupidity as she walks over to you. You both now look at the picture of your daughter.>"She's a grown mare, Anon. She has her own life to build. We knew she'd move out one day.""I know, I know. The house just feels so empty.">Your turn to sigh.>"Well, I've been thinking we could do something about the emptiness.">Starlight's eyes find yours and her warm smile turns into a little smirk.>"I was thinking about it all day in my office, actually.">Your eyes widen with her smirk. That look on her face...you've seen it before. Once before.>Those dilated, demanding eyes, faint blush on her cheeks, smirk that's absolutely devilish now."You were?">A shiver runs down your spine thanks to the magic now toying with the collar of your shirt.>"Mm-hmm, I was.">The heat radiating from Starlight gives you a hug as your eyes follow the stray droplet of sweat running down her cheek."A-are you feeling feverish? You look like you might've caught a cold.">"I do. But it's no common cold.">Magic squeezes your collar more tightly and yanks, forcing you to lean forward.
>>43673509>"Listen closely now.">Your ears perk up. You were right. That look on her face was exactly the same as the one you saw all those years ago.>It's not a fever. Not a common cold. It's something far more primal. A very bad case of foal fever!>That sloppy sound Starlight is making you listen is her pussy winking. Right there underneath her dress it's making its demands loud.>"You hear it, right?">Starlight's lips tickle your ear as she whispers.>"You hear Mommy's need?">She drags her tongue across your ear."Y-yeah...">With a giggle she releases your collar, allowing you to stand back up straight.>"That's my good boy.">Starlight turns around and with a cyan flash, her dress disappears. >She stretches her forelegs, arches her back, and lifts her butt up. Her tail wags, fanning her musk toward you before rising up and moving aside.>Lungs full of musk you watch her marehood greet you with a wet wink. That swollen clit punching itself out of its hood, finally able to scream "breed me!" straight to your face.>Another wink...and another... That lewd sound was already echoing in your ears, but now it's an integrated part of your eardrums. The sight of her pussy demanding to get bred is now burned into your vision too.>Starlight looks back at you with half-lidded eyes. Her magic goes off to pinch your cheek.>"Still with Mommy, baby?">Unable to speak, you only give her a nod.>"Good.">Two steps. One each. Her hind legs open, revealing her teats that grew absolutely fat during her pregnancy.>You gasp for air, your pants feel two sizes too small, the memories of her milk spraying everywhere come flooding back.>Starlight begins to slowly rock her hind. Those fat pony tits sway hypnotically... Your hands itch. You want to squeeze them and never let go.>"Mmmhh.">Magic sparkles again. This time you feel something wet and warm swipe your upper lip. Something that brings you back from the teat-hypnosis.>Starlight...she drew a slimy mustache on your lip with her pussy drool. The pheromone filled smell hits your brain like a freight train, making your legs wobbly.>"Wakey-wakey.">Starlight teasingly giggles. Magic squeezes your bulge, then tugs your belt buckle.>"Bedroom....Daddy~"

>>43559392>picrelThe big problem with starlight is that she's a hypocrite. She keeps her cutie mark and hides this fact from the rest of the town. She doesn't treat them like friends, she treats them like possessions that she has control over. Just look at how she treats suspected dissidents and how she retaliates against the ponies who liberated the M6's cutie marks from her possession. Her actions really aren't those of some intellectual idealogue, who would be interested in arguing her viewpoints, they are those of a tyrant, who relies on deception, coercion, and kidnapping the M6. When she's called out for her hypocrisy, she rejects the opportunity to fully embrace equality and instead uses her special talents to maintain control, even rejecting potential reconciliation with those whom she's wronged. It's obvious that she's not actually interested in providing better lives to others, otherwise she would listen to what makes her supposed friends happy (and she'd be more interested in the future outcomes of her actions throughout the finale.I think people who criticize glimmer's backstory understand what transpired and how she felt. They aren't media illiterate, they just take issue with how the show wants to connect point A (my friend left and I felt abandoned) to point B (I will reenact 1984 and deceive a village). They view the backstory as a flimsy excuse and justification for her actions and ideology, and, as a result, lash out against those who try to paint her as sympathetic (sympathy can only go so far). Since a lot of her pain is implied instead of shown, it really relies on a particular type of viewer who can uniquely empathize with her.Maybe they could have made her more consistent by having her gripe be against freedom rather than special talents, specifically. Ponies who are free have the potential to abandon her, so she uses her manipulation (and mind control) to prevent this eventuality. I'm just spitballing here.I agree with you about ELtSD though, and I say this as someone who likes glimmer a lot (although I think she had more potential).
>>43683029There's a glimmer (heh) of a good backstory with starlight, but I feel that the sympathy/justification that they were going for wasn't fully realized (or, at least, didn't land with a significant portion of the audience). There was interesting potential for starlight to make a good case for her ideology, but it's tainted by her actions. She rules over Our Town as a tyrant (not even the benevolent type) and, in the season finale, it's clear to see that revenge against Twilight/the M6 is a significant motivator of her actions (maybe even moreso than her ideology).> Ponies who are free have the potential to abandon her, so she uses her manipulation (and mind control) to prevent this eventuality.I'll also add that this would better establish her as the kind of character who relies on magic/talent as a sort of crutch to solve her friendship problems, setting up ELtSD and All Bottled Up (kind of like an inexperienced twilight). As it stands, again, hypocrisy ("I must use my special talent to put an end to all special talents!").

>>43683029Starlight was only a "hypocrite" out of necessity, her philosophy is doing things for the greater good. She didn't treat them as possessions, she clearly treated the villagers with respect since they greatly respected her in return and saw her as a friend and were willing to forgive her. A "tyrant" is ruling through force like what Amulet Trixie and Sombra do. The villagers agreed to her ideology, willingly joined and upheld its laws themselves (exception being the m6 who tried undermining her village). She fully believed in her ideology and that it would bring about happiness, obviously it was flawed and misguided so it wasn't working, but nonetheless she believed in it even after she was chased out of town, even in the finale she was still talking about equality. If she never believed in anything then the proverbial mask would have dropped the moment her cutie mark was found out, yet that never happened because her belief was genuine.>It's obvious that she's not actually interested in providing better lives to others, otherwise she would listen to what makes her supposed friends happyShe was unambiguously interested in providing better lives to others. Failing to listen to others was the critical flaw that made her leadership ineffective. Fixing this flaw was an explicit part of her redemption arc as she learns to listen to her friends in order to take down Chrysalis. Her arc comes full circle, sympathizing with Chrysalis and teaching her how a real leader should lead.>I think people who criticize glimmer's backstory understand what transpired and how she felt. They really don't, they treat childhood abandonment and loneliness as things everyone should easily get over. When in reality those things are psychological hurdles that can greatly effect a child's mental development, which in turn shapes their world views. They do not understand how she felt, they lack empathy so at best they are narcissists "i lost a friend and didn't care one bit so everyone else should too" (they don't realize different people hold different values and Starlight valued her one and only friend as one of the most important things in her life) and at worst sociopaths.>They aren't media illiterateIf they weren't they'd understand how she got from point A to B. The episode explicitly presents the theme of the butterfly effect (chaos theory) over and over and over again. That applies to Starlight's life, suffering through 10-15 years of ever growing loneliness and resentment towards inequality, developing her ideology overtime until she had the strength to make it a reality. She's no different than most politicians who developed their views through their lived experiences.>it's clear to see that revenge against Twilight/the M6 is a significant motivator of her actions (maybe even moreso than her ideology)Another instance of media illiteracy presented there is confusing her motivation for revenge with her motivation to establish Our Town.
>>43683214Trixie, you goofball!
>>43683430>A "tyrant" is ruling through force like what Amulet Trixie and Sombra do. The villagers agreed to her ideology, willingly joined and upheld its laws themselvesUhhh, just be sure not to question or express any disagreements with our glorious leader or else she forcefully incarcerates you inside a reeducation camp (she's a good friend). She literally rules with force [power] via her special talent.>Her arc comes full circle, sympathizing with Chrysalis and teaching her how a real leader should lead.Haven't watched it yet, actually>When in reality those things are psychological hurdles that can greatly effect a child's mental development, which in turn shapes their world views.Sure, sure, but there's a disconnect between "My friend abandoned me, which I attribute to cutie marks/specialization" and "True friendship cannot coexist with cutie marks". I can believe that she never made another friend out of her fear, but I can't believe that she never saw any evidence of friendship between ponies who had their cutie marks. She must have deliberately ignored evidence that ran counter to her worldview, just like she ignores the evidence of the M6's friendship and the sentiments of her villagers. There must have been other examples of her needing to reeducate dissidents, so she must be aware of dissenting/contrary viewpoints, but "reeducation" is the opportune word here. She doesn't debate opposing viewpoints or incorporate contradictory evidence into her worldview, which would make it more consistent, she stamps-out opposition and resorts to violent magic blasts when she doesn't get her way. These are the markings of personal, not ideological motivation. There's just too many flaws in her reasoning to justify all of her actions as purely the result of a consistent ideology. A lot of evidence points towards her being petty and personally motivated. Like how she taunts Twilight in the finale "A cutie mark for a cutie mark, a fair trade, don't you think?" makes her seem like the kind of tropey villain whose motivation is "I suffered, why shouldn't they?". I think these are necessary and effective aspects when writing a compelling villain, but the ratio of ingredients with starlight is rather unappetizing. Too much personal motivation, not enough compelling ideology, in my opinion. In all honesty though, I think she's a perfectly suitable villain in a show entitled "Friendship is Magic"--one that is motivated primarily by personal hangups around friendship. That's what I like most about her reconciliation with twilight--it really isn't fair to say "it was just one breakup, get over it" in this universe because that's not how this universe operates. It being "just one little friendship, big deal" is never really the case, as we see with all the alternate, ruined futures. Every friendship matters, regardless of how immediately visible or invisible the consequences of that friendship not existing may be.
>>43683430>Starlight was only a "hypocrite" out of necessity, her philosophy is doing things for the greater good.Again, if she were such a consequentialist, then we would see her grappling with the consequences of her actions. It would have been more effective in the finale to have her be interested in seeing the alternate futures that her actions had created. Then, they give her a quick moment of "was I wrong" before she shakes her head and reassures herself that her worldview is correct, then returns to the past to try again. "I know that my ideology is right, so if I keep trying and pull things off perfectly in the past, then eventually it'll create an ideal future" before she is eventually forced to confront the flaws in her views when she keeps ruining the future. They could have made starlight embody "the road to hell is paved with good intentions", but she is instead irreverent to the consequences of her meddling up until the very end. Her actions more give the impression of "I will enforce my ideology no matter the consequences" whether it be in Our Town or in the past.>She didn't treat them as possessions, she clearly treated the villagers with respect since they greatly respected her in return and saw her as a friend and were willing to forgive herRespect? Do you lie to people whom you respect? Do you hold them to a different standard than you hold yourself to? When you have a disagreement with your friends, do you put them in a reeducation camp until they agree with you instead of hearing them out? They certainly saw her as a friend, but she views control and dominance as more important than friendship in this relationship. Again, I can see her justification from this stemming from her personal trauma (and I think it fits quite well), but the facts are the facts: she values control since ponies that she controls can't leave her.I suppose the best that you can say, if arguing that she genuinely sees her villagers as friends, is that she just has a very twisted view of friendship due to her inexperience, but I think she fully understands that her actions are contrary to real friendship and instead that they are necessary evils that she employs to maintain her village's order.
>>43683943>"A cutie mark for a cutie mark, a fair trade, don't you think?"Personal, vindictive lines like these are in a constant tug of war with nobly-intentioned lines like "Wouldn't it be better if we lived in a world where ponies didn't bully each other over their differences?" and that is what makes her a distasteful villain in a lot of people's mouths. Where does the personal end and where does the ideology begin? Is the former just a justification for the latter? If the latter is so important, and she really just wants to do good in the world, then why is she indifferent to the suffering caused by her actions?
>>43684031>If the latter is so important, and she really just wants to do good in the world, then why is she indifferent to the suffering caused by her actions? This isn't even exclusive to the whole butterfly alternate future thing throughout the finale. Let's just be charitable and say that she's totally unaware (out of confidence/delusion in her ideology) of the possibility that her actions could have negative consequences in the future. Glimmer defenders still have to deal with her indifference to Twilight's suffering. Twilight and her friends are being robbed of a very significant portion of what makes their lives worth living. There's really hardly any analogy that would be comparable to what glimmer is doing to them. Like if she were to erase all of their cherished memories together making it like they never knew each other, that's all I can think of and it's a completely reprehensible thing to do to another person, regardless of whether or not it causes some disaster in the future.>But glimmer didn't know how important friendship was to the M6Except she does know how important friendship is and how much suffering its absence can cause. It's her entire backstory. She's inflicting the same pain that she felt when Sunburst left her upon Twilight in her friends. It's really sick to look at this and then suggest that she's just trying to make the world a better place and that revenge has nothing to do with it. A line like, "I know that losing your friends will cause a lot of pain, Twilight, but this is for the greater good of all, so that others can experience TRUE friendship." might have humanized her a bit more. Maybe it's because she doesn't view the M6 as real friends since true friendship can't exist without cutie marks, but that just makes her seem extremely callous and contradicts any sympathy that her backstory would have garnered.
>>43683943>She literally rules with force [power] via her special talent.Starlight doesn't, or else she'd have no reason to keep her cutie mark a secret and simply rule them through magical strength. The reason she got chased out at all is because everyone still had free will and Starlight wasn't willing to use force against them because her goal was never to rule over others like a dictator akin to Amulet Trixie and Sombra, a tyrant has no need for any kind of ideology. Starlight wanted an equal society where ponies can maintain their friendships and she incorrectly thought strict rules were required in service of that goal.>but I can't believe that she never saw any evidence of friendship between ponies who had their cutie marksPeople from all walks of life fall into this trap actually. Capitalists will say they've never seen evidence of socialism working and Socialists will say they've never seen evidence of capitalism working. People's judgements are clouded by their biases all the time. Starlight is no different, her world view was skewed in such a way that she tunnel-visioned on the bad things. From her perspective the m6 are naive and that it's only a matter of time before they break up due to their differences just like her how friendship had ended.>She doesn't debate opposing viewpointsShe explains her ideology quite clearly, the problem is that it's hard to argue against like when she was teaching the fillies to stop bullying Fluttershy because of their differences, Twilight couldn't say anything about it. Having a full-on philosophical debate on friendship is also way beyond the scope of a show for children and goes against the tried and true show-don't-tell policy. There's no need to have a debate when we can see her ideology has problems.>Like how she taunts Twilight in the finale "A cutie mark for a cutie mark, a fair trade, don't you think?"You're conflating her motivation for revenge with her motivation for Our Town. They are two entirely unrelated things. Some detractors don't even get the cause-and-effect right and believe she used time travel because of Sunburst. Starlight had beef with Twilight, not because of what happened in the past, but because of what Twilight did to her in the present by toppling everything she worked hard for.>That's what I like most about her reconciliation with twilightI appreciate that as well, it's more compelling than being instantly reformed by a powerful beam of friendship in my opinion. Starlight was in the depths of despair and Twilight was her savior giving her the push she needed to give friendship another chance. It also shows how much Twilight has grown to learn from her mistake with Moon Dancer and to sympathize with Starlight's heartache.
>>43683992>then we would see her grappling with the consequences of her actionsWhich is exactly what happened in the finale. She was brought to the final timeline and saw with her own eyes the result of her actions. That scene broke her and sent her down a spiral of denial, spilling her heart out to Twilight, and going through the stages of grief towards acceptance. The pain she felt over her friendship ending having no effect on the world while the m6's ending causing disaster must have been immense and it shook the foundation of everything she believed which gave Twilight the opportunity to make the finishing blow.>Respect?Yes, her village came with rules that everyone understood and agreed to (exception being the m6 of course). A bible study session for dissidents is one of those rules they happily enforced themselves. The only "standard" she didn't follow was having a cutie mark, in all other ways she ate the same low quality foods and lived in the same low quality conditions as anyone else. At no point did Starlight ever flaunt her talents to look better, she was in every way equal except for just her cutie mark that she only used for collecting cutie marks.>she values control since ponies that she controls can't leave her.Yes, that was one of her flaws. She is a very nuanced character. She can both be a well-meaning ideologue that wants to help others while also wanting to help herself through some level of control, those two desires are in alignment. Starlight is an altruistic pony at heart, always wanting to help others and be useful, that is one of her main character traits throughout the entire show.>>43684031>Where does the personal end and where does the ideology begin? As I explained they are two separate things. It's unambiguously clear her beef with Twilight is one thing and her ideology is another.>why is she indifferent to the suffering caused by her actionsShe wasn't indifferent, she just didn't realize it because of her leadership flaw of not listening to the concerns of others.
>>43684144>her indifference to Twilight's suffering. Twilight and her friends are being robbed of a very significant portion of what makes their lives worth living.Starlight was only getting revenge on Twilight and it's not Twilight that's being changed here. It's very silly to say that their lives were worthless until Twilight came along. Starlight's assumption was that Twilight's friends were blissfully living separate happy lives elsewhere just like she thought Sunburst was happily living in a prestigious school being special.>She's inflicting the same pain that she felt when Sunburst left her upon TwilightThat's the point of her revenge against Twilight. Twilight took away her friends in Our Town so she's getting back at her. Getting back at one person that wronged her doesn't change her desire to make the world a better place. Starlight isn't a perfect saint and her realistic flaws make her all the more compelling.>A line like...That doesn't make sense at all because she wasn't taking revenge on Twilight for the sake of the world, her motivation for revenge has nothing to do with her ideology. It was simple petty spite like Trixie getting revenge on Twilight. Our Town, however, was for the greater good of all. You're making the mistake of conflating two completely different unrelated motivations together.
>>43684500>Starlight doesn'tTell me what happens when a pony dissents against starlight. Ruling through force doesn't mean that she's constantly stomping around maniacally, but the threat of her magic is ever present. It's a too literal interpretation to think of ruling by force as something purely predicated on strength. Strength isn't how starlight maintains order (ignoring forced incarceration), she maintains control through deception. She has information that the village does not have; therefore, she has power over them. "I know something that you don't" is not an equal playing field between starlight and the villagers.>Starlight is no different, her world view was skewed in such a way that she tunnel-visioned on the bad thingsYes, it's a flaw in her worldview which makes it inconsistent. Audiences prefer compelling, consistent villains, not ones which are motivated by personal hangups (again, "I suffered, why shouldn't they?"), which is why Starlight isn't universally beloved.>She explains her ideology quite clearlyMy point wasn't that I wanted a debate, it was that she shows us how she deals with disagreements: forced reeducation. This indicates adherence to dogma, not a humanitarian consequentialist who holds "make the world a better place" as her top goal. Her top goal is sticking with her ideas and doing whatever it takes to apply and preserve them.>You're conflating her motivation for revenge with her motivation for Our TownReviewing her lines from both episodes, I think that you are right about this. The question posed in >>43684031 may still be valid to ask (from starlight's perspective, how much is she using her ideology to justify her actions?), but it seems that she's primarily gunning for twilight's head throughout the finale. Once again though, this just pushes her further into the "I suffered, why shouldn't they?" villain trope.>how much Twilight has grown to learn from her mistake with Moon Dancer and to sympathize with Starlight's heartache.I wanted to mention this too. I also thought it was significant how both moondancer and glimmer were contained within the same season. Maybe a coincidence but there are interesting parallels between the two that indeed evidence twilight's growth and foreshadow her as a mentor.>I appreciate that as well, it's more compelling than being instantly reformed by a powerful beam of friendship in my opinionmy take is that the friendship beam wasn't a reformation mind control beam, but rather a means to subdue a villain, knocking them down to a humbled state where they can see the errors of their ways. Maybe it's a point in starlight's favor that she realized the error of her ways without needing to be disempowered in this way or Hasbro ended their "one friendship beam per season" quota
