I feel like the threads haven't ever been at risk of dying so quickly before. The Ponk threads from however many months ago usually pretty comfortably got to 500+ posts, no?

Hard to say why. There's ponkfags across the board but they won't even keep their wife's thread up during sliding.

no thanks, pinkie pie is my wife but I see no point to a dedicated necrobump thread like this when I could easily discuss about pinkie pie in a new thread and have more genuine discussion.
>>
>>43511041
Nonny... this is a new thread where you can have genuine discussion. You're just lazy and selective of when you want to talk about your wife.

ngl, I kind of feel it's something that hits a lot of the generals from what I've heard, kinda hard to pin the blame on anyone here

>>43511041
It's fun to post cute pictures of her here at the very least, but yeah, I was going ham in the last thread or some talking about Ponka with another anon, was super nice. People are open to chatting here if you ask about, and I think the discussion you get here tends to be very specifically from very big Ponk enjoyers who have a very high level of affection and emotional attachment to the character. However, sometimes the chaos of just having general /mlp/ types around to chat about her is super fun, too. I love both personally.

Yeah Mare Fair kept me out of a ton of discussion here for days, other than checking the con thread here and there. Hell even then I wish I checked the con thread more often, missed a ton of fun stuff and a few heartfelt replies anons gave me that I wasn't able to reply to.

discussion can happen over the span of multiple weeks on this board. having a dedicated thread for it (even if it's just dead bumps 90% of the time) helps ensure that, if someone makes an effort post, it isn't slid off the board in hours and then archived. just take a look at all of the discussion in the previous threads and imagine each post as their own 5 reply archived thread. having the general helps for visibility. after all my years on this website, I never thought I'd make a post defending generals, but here I am.

NTA but nothing stops you from replying to an archived post
I do think that filling the thread with empty image reposts does more to discourage conversation than having the thread actually fall off does, honestly. You can just make a post bringing something up to give more visibility to something that was slid off, after all, whereas it feels more out of place to try and do that for something which is in the same thread but just hidden by 20 image posts.
>>
>>43511865
I see your perspective, but, at the very least, I suppose there isn't any major harm in having both formats? We can have new, specific topic threads when the occasion for discussion arises, while still having a general in the background where discussion can happen incidentally.

I mean yeah, every post is special, every post is great
I'm not saying you shouldn't bump the thread if that's what you think is best, just saying why I don't think that not bumping has a negative impact
The most real answer is that we all SHOULD bump with new and high effort contributions that stand on their own such that dedicated bumping isn't necessary, but obviously we don't have infinite time and effort to spare for that or we'd be doing so already

A little bit of all the nice things about Pinkie wrapped up neatly in this "The Lost Treasure of Griffonstone"
Her creative expression through baking at the start of the episode? check
Her positivity keeping morale high during an arduous task (the mountainous trek up to griffonstone)? check (I think Pinkie's demeanor in the face of Gilda's harshness towards her is also evidence of this; it's not easy being yelled at in every interaction with a person)
I also liked her [seemingly deliberately] spending all her money on the train on candy so that she can make Rainbow Dash pay for everything on the trip (trolled)
When they first meet Gilda and there's obvious tension between her and Dash, Pinkie immediately tries to defuse the situation by shouting "Pinkie!". This is isn't evidence her not taking arguments/disagreements seriously (she knows the history between these two), but of her preference that things not come to blows and instead remain peaceful. Laughter is a disarming tactic, after all.
A bit later, Pinkie picks-up on the implication that Gilda is putting up an abrasive facade being indifferent to the idol. Emotional intelligence and being able to read others' feelings? check

I think it's a unique role that Pinkie fulfills in this episode. The rest of the 6 aren't around to drive the plot forward and take things seriously, so that task falls pretty much squarely on Pinkie (since Dash is more invested in heroics). This tells us what [should] we already know about Pinkie: she is intelligent and mature enough to handle different situations. However, her friends are just as capable themselves (mostly), so, when others are around, Pinkie prefers to step back from the "time to be serious and work to solve this problem" and inject some laughter into the situation. Put another way, if Pinkie is the last pony standing, or the only pony present who can solve the problem, then she knows to shelf the wacky randomness for a bit and get serious until everything is clear (or until someone else who can solve the problem shows up, so that the mantle of responsibility doesn't rest on her exclusively)

Also, Pinkie was crazy for this line
>"Rainbow Dash, I just took out a life insurance policy on you before we left! I'm gonna throw this rope down as evidence that I tried to save you then tell everypony back home that things went down differently here! Nice knowing you!"
Of course it's Pinkie 5d chess that it was her plan all along to get Gilda to help so that she and Dash could reconcile, but this headcannon is funnier. Maybe Pinkamena smelled a bit of blood in the water while Dash was stranded and, subconsciously, forced Pinkie to fuck up the rescue by throwing the entire rope.
Anyway, besides this contrivance in the ravine, great Pinkie writing.

Oh dude I've always been a massive fucking troll and Pinkie is exactly on my same giggly carefree wavelength. It's never about being actually mad and trying to one-up someone, it's about being a stupid fun-loving free-spirit and just not caring about the social rulebook of a community you're in. I end up ragebaiting people just by being kind to them because it's "faggoty" in the eyes of some and my unphased friendly reaction has only made them even more irked - it's the most Ponk shit ever. Pinkie has the whole court jester routine figured out perfectly and is a fantastic role model for fucking with others in a fun, positive way while not being cruel and arguably even serving to teach others gentle lessons about how being mean isn't the most effective way to be taken seriously.

>I think there are times I do bait people who aren't trying to get baited
This is a constant for me. Just be yourself and never show any shame and you're going to have haters show up at your door, and omfg it's a riot whenever they do. Early 2010's style trolling feels dead nowadays with how seriously everyone takes everything, but because of that, a troll that acts like someone from that era is just having an endless feast of lulz. This is legitimately one of the greatest times ever to be a lulzy oldschool troll with how grim and aggressive so many are these days, and I am dumbfounded at how more people haven't joined in on it - probably because they're all taking it all kinda seriously too.

I sometimes have mixed feelings, is all. Like there are times where I'll say something that could get misinterpreted and sometimes I'm even unintentionally in the wrong, and then I'll play along and avoid addressing the misunderstanding without ever actually contradicting myself or failing to argue in good faith afterwards. And usually that feels great, like, the guy is getting mad over nothing and if he stepped back he'd see that. But like I do want him to either lighten up and only argue for fun (at which point plowing ahead is great) or to realize his mistake. Like, how can I put this, it feels like I'm bullying someone who doesn't know how to make it stop? People who are too overly serious are fine because it's clear they're fronting from the word go, so it's not like they're getting harmed in any way that they aren't deliberately bringing about - this is essentially the same as people choosing to take offense, it's their personal decision. But there's a sweet spot where it's unclear if the guy is just - I don't want to say too dumb to get it, but like a proper internet sperg who lack critical self awareness - and I feel like I should drop the kayefabe because I'm extending something that isn't going to go anywhere but which I don't know if the other person knows is possible to stop replying to. That's the big one; I don't know if they know they can stop replying, and I don't know if they're ever going to figure it out, especially if I don't do anything to help them. I usually just stop that chain of argument quietly. Fortunately those types are the sort that generally try to argue on merits so they don't tend to engage in identityfaggotry.

Pinkie would definitely have a photoshop of a dick in Maud's mouth as her screensaver.

a couple typos that got past me:
>This is isn't evidence her not taking arguments/disagreements seriously (she knows the history between these two), but of her preference that things not come to blows and instead remain peaceful
>This *isn't evidence of her not taking arguments seriously.
I meant to say that Pinkie respects both parties' concerns in a disagreement, but she doesn't like the genuine anger/combativeness that can manifest during an argument. I know this seems to contradict last thread's discussion about Pinkie loving to argue, but, as the other anons have put it, intentionality is the key divider here. Pinkie would prefer lighthearted, perhaps even well-intentioned, trolling whose intention is to get under the skin rather than to seriously decimate the recipient. Pinkie enjoys arguments insofar as they are kept with the realm of harmony, and she'll use laughter and humor to pacify or "soften-up" disagreeing parties when they err from this standard of acceptability. She'll also use song as a method for this purpose, but that didn't go so well between the buffalo and appleoosians

>This tells us what [should] we already know about Pinkie: she is intelligent and mature enough to handle different situations
>This tells us what we *[should] already know about Pinkie
I meant to say that this aspect of Pinkie's character was very obvious to me throughout this episode given the framework that I'm interpreting from: Pinkie is smarter than she lets on, but prefers fun and humor wherever she can interject them (i.e. a "wise fool"). If any anon here has even been the "funny man" of their respective social circle, you quickly realize that there is a fine line between delivering genuinely thoughtful and hilarious jokes/commentary versus being a mindless court jester (quality vs quantity). Pinkie can be both at times (whether the situation calls for it or not) and I think that, at the very least, speaks somewhat to the kind of intellect that she's working with.
