Whatever words stallions said to her always turned into mush when dredged up from her memories, so she focussed more on the masculine features of his voice while he spat venom to which she was immune, held in place by her many grown children flanking him. She would need merely to lean forward, sending more of her children inside hanging over the edge of her throne, and flap her wings to stay in place for her children to know their orders. This was always better when the stallion lacked wings, so his form became harder in her mind with a horn on his forehead while her children flew him ever closer to her. She shuddered. He would be set where she had sat on her throne, an honour, with her children holding his legs and aligning his fifth with her second mouth to swallow him. She would need merely to sit down, and feel his bones break, but stallions had one limb boneless. Broken underneath her in body, spirit would follow, and she would either consume him in his dying moments or he would survive to feed her again. Some of the only words from stallions she bothered to remember in clarity were their last: always something she forced them to say, and always about those parts of themselves who would live on through her in the most base sense. Boredom yet held her alongside them, and she stared at a rock jutting out of the cave from different angles while she crossed the chamber. Her forehoof grabbed her attention next; she admired it set against those many smaller she was making.It was unnecessary to pay attention to them, but the sharp rocks jutting forth from the tunnel she’d chosen put her at unease once her attention ventured outwards. Her horn, and those less impressive of her changelings, never gave her the same impression, although they also knew better than to stab at her with them. She turned her attention to the tunnel’s ceiling, and realized it to be much taller than she remembered: Eventually, she recalled the passage to be only partially of her changelings’ design, mostly discovered while they dug parallel channels. She could fly some of the way, it occurred to her, but her sons were doing an adequate job so far. She took a deep breath, dissatisfied with how it ended prematurely with pain. She looked downwards to the forwards edge of her thorax; all empty space in her body had long been filled, and in the dark she couldn’t discern most of the little bodies disappearing deeper inside where her lungs sat.Tension was beginning to set in across her back. Her body rocked further from another step, and her left legs were nearly touching the ground rather than curled well above it. She looked at her son’s face with her left eye, the other looking at some rear end jammed into her cheek, to see his eyes shut tight. She couldn’t tell if he were breathing, and her pupil looked to the cave floor to see sharp little rocks instead of a smoothed surface; she looked at him again and then past him, to see several sharper rocks jutting out of the wall. She didn’t want to imagine how painful it would be to give birth like a cockroach, although—figuring everything—there would probably be only a single death or two, not hers, neither including his.Now her horn glowed, green magic shooting from her horn and tunneling into the cave wall like worms. She started pulling herself upright until her wings could spread. He gave out and collapsed once she was carrying herself above the ground. Her shape stretched to the floor and started to spread across it, but her better son immediately brushed much of the debris away before it could be trapped underneath her. Her womb was spreading towards the sharp walls, slowly, and her wings were growing tired, but not too tired that she couldn’t save herself; her useful son walked around her perimeter brushing away more debris, with his magic made into a cylinder to hold her like a drinking glass. When he was finished, he looked to her for approval, and she smiled at him.-The cave’s ceiling took most of her view, yet none of her attention, while she waited. She had been sneering at him, but he couldn’t tell in his daze on the ground, so she was thereafter sneering at nothing with a foreleg drumming on herself the only noise other than his pathetic sounds of exhaustion. Her unborn children writhed in the tighter magical grip. One of the rear ends near her drumming hoof bucked out with all its might, and she instantly slapped it down back into her shape.
All eyes—all that mattered anyway, and many that mattered in no way—stared back at the weaker son when he picked himself up from the floor. He dared not to look back at them, though he couldn’t have shaken from fear any more than he was already. Queen Chrysalis saw two options available to her while she stared at her son, first at his head, second through the holes in his legs, and third imagining some additional holes where they wouldn’t belong: She could replace him, or draw from her endless well of maternal mercy by easing his burden. The first tempted her greatly. Her eyes stared at him, still weak, until they lost focus and refocussed a bit lower, on herself. One of her new children was asleep and peaceful within her, and the sight—or a hoof—hit her heart.She supposed, as their queen and mother, the burden of their endless failures ultimately would be her responsibility forever. Her eyes flicked to the sharp walls of the cave again, another reason to show such undeserved clemency. She looked away from them and spread her wings, flying from the ethereal glass holding her and not waiting for them to buzz her way; she heard both of them take after her immediately, one stronger and one weaker. Now with her movement under her control, she lazily glanced at the sharp edges that were possibly too close and checked only for chokepoints; otherwise, she knew one would fly ahead to cover the edge with his body and push her out of the way.-The weaker son noticed a jagged such spike jutting out of the cave wall, panicking at the thought of his queen catching it and being gutted. A thousand deaths before many thousands more were preferable. He flew along her perimeter, identified the point that could poke her, and covered it with his body. Seconds later he felt her fly by and try to impale him on it. His hooves fit themselves into the cave best they could and he pushed backwards with all of his might. Her motherly embrace looked as if it were trying to swallow him again with how it spread like honey over a fly, but she was pushed away and to safety through him. He felt that he were leaking perhaps, and smiled.He knew his mother had showered him with mercy, and dislodged himself from the spike to continue escorting her.
