No, because Cadance is correct.
She's got her horn in this scene so Sunbuns has already decided that Cadance has ex cathedra infallibility when it comes to matters of love.

I sort of assume she can probably detect the love in ponies hearts in a similar sort of way to Sombra auto-targeting ponies fears, so she's just bringing out stuff that's already there and clearing the way.
>>
>>43546783
This is my headcannon - Cadance's talent gives her a nigh-infallible philosophy of love and when it's appropriate to intervene and how much of a nudge etc. to maximize respect for self-determination.
>>
>>43546783
Fuck pony determinism. That isn’t love. It’s the same damned determinism as a cutie mark. Cadence forcing two ponies together is state induced mating for the purpose of stabilizing population at replacement rates. I like ponies, but fuck their governance systems.

Cadance is so fucking pretty it is unreal.

>>43546804
>Fuck pony determinism. That isn’t love. It’s the same damned determinism as a cutie mark.
Calm your teats glimglam. It's basically the same thing as the pre-established harmony of God - it's just the organic outcome being confirmed externally. Artificial cutie marks never last but it's demonstrably possible to help other ponies find their real ones, there's no reason love should be any different.

>the harmony of God
>limited only to one race of many sentient and sapient creatures in Equestria
Harmony is not a universal force in Equestria. If it is not universal, it is not natural. If it is not natural, it must have been created by the species that benefits from it. The species that benefits from it is the species that rules the tribes. Cutie marks are just unicorn/alicorn magic to control the populace. To ensure critical workers exist. Pony love is equally unnatural if it can be controlled by unicorn/alicorn magic.
>>
>>43546852
Quality schizobabble, however:
>Harmony is not a universal force in Equestria.
I'm going to need some proof for that one. The tree/map/castle/elements literally extends between timelines (S5 finale) and is stronger than the combined magic of every pony in Equestria (S4 finale). If ponies live in a deterministic universe it's because they know God. Which, like, makes perfect sense because MLP is heavily inspired by LotR and that's precisely the function of Eru.
>>
>>43546674
So like, if Spike asked her to do this to Rarity...
>>
>>43546859
I’ve already demonstrated that it isn’t a universal. Cutie marks are limited to ponies. No other creature, equine or otherwise, is confirmed to have them. The elements of harmony were downgraded to magical artifacts created by the original pillars. They are the product of mortals, not universal forces or gods. The tree and the map are products of the pillars in kind. All of these pony artifacts are no different from something like Grogar’s Bell or the Alicorn Amulet except that they were made from the combined powers of some of Equestria’s greatest magical ponies. To be clear, I’m not arguing that all pony love is unnatural. Just whatever love Cadence forces.

>Cutie marks are limited to ponies. No other creature, equine or otherwise, is confirmed to have them.
And? That just means that ponies are the chosen ones.
If we were to extend the christfaggotry metaphor, they'd be the ones made in the image of Harmony who have dominion over the fish and the fowls and the cattle and all Equestria and every creeping thing. Twilight being pony jesus is just bringing the covenant to those that weren't part of the original compact that Celestia & Luna had.
>The elements of harmony were downgraded to magical artifacts created by the original pillars. They are the product of mortals, not universal forces or gods. The tree and the map are products of the pillars in kind.
Incredibly wrong.
The only pony who says that is Starswirl, who was firmly established by Celestia as being wrong many seasons before he ever appeared in the show and made that claim. Fundamentally it's comics lore at best, which is just not canon at all.
The element of friendship=magic literally appears out of nothing in the series opening (E2). S2 Cadance confidently uses the power of love without a prop. S6 Starlight correctly identifies that Thorax has the opportunity to do the same thing. These are real, active, and all-pervasive forces.

The Elements of Harmony are fully animated on screen before Starswirl was born three/four seasons before he was introduced to the series, taking his word for anything is like accepting Trixie's claims in S1 over things that characters are literally seen doing.

Cady is so incredibly based it's unreal.

>trusting the ones who benefit from the narrative that they tell about the elements
>instead of the mortals that don’t benefit from the narrative
Equestrian history is fucked. Hearth’s Warming doesn’t make any sense either if we remove comic lore. It’s only propagated as propaganda to empower the government. It’s literal Mandate of Heaven tier historical revisionism. Why did Celestia appear when Twilight magically became an Alicorn? The show suggests that finishing Starswirl’s spell allowed her to ascend, but it was Celestia who determined that she was ready. Because she learned the lesson she wanted her to learn to continue the systems she wanted to continue. As for love, there are clearly magical components of love which can be consumed by Changelings or altered by Cadence. The fact that love is a semi-tangible magical force unlike in humans suggests that the pony version of love is unnatural. It is only through accepting the effects of the artificial Harmony magical systems that Thorax and others can utilize the unnatural love magic of ponies.
>>
>>43546914
>trusting the ones who benefit from the narrative that they tell about the elements
>instead of the mortals that don’t benefit from the narrative
Well yeah trusting the vastly better informed character that we literally see firsthoof was right about this topic rather than the super prideful guy who's self-aggrandizing by claiming credit for despite them vastly predating him is a pretty normal to do.
The one the benefits from the lie that Starswirl created the Elements is Starswirl, through inflating his ego. That's the only benefit of that narrative. The truth about the Elements literally allows Twilight to defeat & reform NMM in E2, as well as to beat Tirek and Sombra and then the LoD. Probably other cases as well. Plus Twilight/Celestia understanding how they work is what allows Discord to be beaten in S2.

I also don't know why you're so fixated on the idea that the demonstrably atemoral, seemingly all powerful force must definitely be unnatural and artificial.
>Hearth’s Warming doesn’t make any sense either if we remove comic lore. It’s only propagated as propaganda to empower the government. It’s literal Mandate of Heaven tier historical revisionism.
What? How?
Also unironically defending comics lore is wild, no wonder you contracted schizophrenia if that's what you've been putting yourself through.
>Why did Celestia appear when Twilight magically became an Alicorn?
Why not? We're not given a conclusive answer AFAIK but considering Celestia used to solo-wield the Elements, I think it's not crazy to think that whatever heavenly realm lobby they're in or whatever is somewhere that Celestia could have access to as well. Equestria has pocket dimensions and later the dream realm as established locales.

I feel like next you're going to tell me about the machine elves farming us for loosh. Taking the words of the actual wielders of friendship and love that we see on screen actually use these forces and who every part of the show frames as being correct about these things is trivially easy and you have to invent a really elaborate conspiracy to go more than a couple episodes without realizing that Starswirl is just lying/wrong.
>>
>>43546914
>unnatural
You have completely forgotten how horseworld works. You have forgotten the Everfree Forest. You have forgotten that altering things to be in Harmony is what is "natural" to them.
>>
>>43546961
The fact that it’s natural to them and not part of the greater world, like the Everfree, is more evidence that it is specific to them and not the greater world. The entire show takes place in a storybook, from book open to book close, written by ponies and serving to further their customs and culture. Inconsistencies like with the formation of the Elements of Harmony and fourth wall breaks are consistent with a story instead of an actual historical account. There is more evidence to suggest that Harmony could not exist before or without ponies than there is to exist that Harmony is an intrinsic property of the world.

Can you explain this? I thought the timeline was that the Pillars made the crystal seed for the tree, they got trapped, then the tree grew, and then Luna and Celestia used the Elements from the tree. How did Celestia disprove that? Everything still fits in the show.

Timeline is
>Discord
>Windigos
>Stygian
>NMM
Pillars were there for Windigos and Stygian - it's Starswirl that's Clover's mentor in the play about the tribes coming together - but they weren't there for Discord. Most pillar group adventures were after Windigos (the village the sirens are attacking is mixed), it's unclear which side of the unification all of their individual stories lie on but the campfire tales ones seem to either be pre-unification or cultural integration took a while since they're all in monocultural communities. Per S4E2 (>>43546899), the Elements as Twilight knows them predate Starswirl. S2E1 firmly establishes that Discord ruled first, so Hearthswarming and the Pillars have to come after Discord was defeated (or when the three tribes arrived, but before they unified, >>43546899 happens and the alicorns beat Discord), which means the Elements as we know them today were used by the sisters before the Windigos were ever dealt with.

We don't technically know how long it was between Discord and the Windigos, but considering the world doesn't seem to be a chaotic hellscape while the Pillars are getting their starts, I think it's reasonable to say that they grew up in a post-Discord environment. The timeline you're reciting is the one that Starswirl gives, but for it to work he'd have to have been there while the tribes were unified under Celestia & Luna, gone through his life, planted the tree, turned himself to stone, and only then did the sisters defeat Discord who would have had to have been ruling since before the day Starswirl was born.

Also the Elements run off of friendship/harmony, which we have word-of-Celestia that Starswirl doesn't understand from MMC, and then we see Starswirl and he doesn't understand friendship/harmony. Like keep in mind, Hearthswarming is a modern myth like Nightmare Night so we don't get confirmation about which parts of it are true but the Windigos are real, Celly lists the three tribes separately when talking about defeating Discord, and that Discord ruled Equestria before he was defeated is straight from the horse's mouth.

>but for it to work he'd have to have been there while the tribes were unified under Celestia & Luna, gone through his life, planted the tree, turned himself to stone, and only then did the sisters defeat Discord
Yeah, that's the timeline I thought it was. Minus the "unified under Celestia & Luna", I assume they showed up after Discord. If they played a role in the unification of the pony tribes they would have been mentioned in the play but the only thing I can recall is the flag, which can be an anachronistic detail.

>Minus the "unified under Celestia & Luna"
I can't find why I think this, though as you say there is the flag. It's made explicit in expanded media but they're certainly not canon. It's possible it's never explictly stated, just implied.
>If they played a role in the unification of the pony tribes they would have been mentioned in the play
I don't see why that has to be the case. There are only six characters in the play and they essentially never make reference to the offscreen characters that are e.g. growing the food. They don't make reference to the Pillars other than that Clover's mentor is Starswirl, for instance. But this is a total tangent (and wouldn't hold up as hard evidence) anyway, I'm not using this as part of my claim. I'm talking purely about the timing of the Discord confrontation relative to the pillars.

>I thought Equestria was founded after the Windigos, how would Discord rule it before that?
How wouldn't he? Windigos explictly come into the scene after ponies.
According to the play - which we do not have firsthoof evidence for - there were ponies outside Equestria, Windigos attacked, then they moved to Equestria, then Windigos attacked again, then ponies unified. We get a reference to Starswirl in this, implying that at least some of the pillars are already active in this telling of history.
In Celestia's recounting of history for the Discord episode, he explictly ruled Equestria before she defeated him. This is a direct statement from a source that was actually there and gets repeatedly confirmed, so I think we have to take it as gospel. Given we see the pillar's (seemingly pre-unification) backstories and the world isn't Discorded, and Celestia lists the tribes seperately when talking about the misery that Discord was bringing, I can't really see how Discord could be defeated post unification. Even in the play they don't unify until after they've moved to Equestria.
>I assume they showed up after Discord.
Something to keep in mind: Starswirl and the sisters knew each other. So either the Sisters were around before him, or they showed up while he was there. The sisters using the Elements to defeat Discord happens and the pillars don't know about the elements, so if defeating Discord is when the alicorns appear then it has to happen before Starswirl because otherwise he'd be a statue and Luna wouldn't know him personally.
(Or they had the elements and never told Starswirl that was how Discord was defeated. In either case the central thesis - that Starswirl doesn't know jack or shit about the Elements - still holds. But this seems unlikely since the defeat of Discord is very public history.)
>>
>>43549744 (cont)
There are a couple ways to interpret that two points of history:
1) Discord rules Equestria, ponies are attacked by windigios, ponies come to Equestria, the sisters defeat him with the elements, ponies are attacked by windigos, ponies unify
>Celestia and Luna were adults with the modern Elements at a time the pillars were active
2) Discord rules Equestria, Celestia and Luna defeat him, ponies are attacked by windigos, ponies unify and found Equestria, the exodus in the play is a myth
Starswirl's timeline would need something like
3) ponies are attacked by windigios, ponies come to Equestria, ponies are attacked by windigos, ponies unify, Discord shows up and rules Equestria, the sisters defeat him
But we're never really told anything like this happens. It runs in the face of the fact that ponies were implictly divided when Discord was ruling, it requires the sisters to be there but not have the Elements until later, and it requires a period where Discord rules but the sisters don't do anything about (they go into exile to learn about friendship and come back??). And it still doesn't change the fact that friendship explictly doesn't require props to use and the broader forces of friendship (& love) get used repeatedly without the Elements, so Starswirl claiming that he invented ~harmony even though he doesn't understand it at all is still obvious bullshit.

Ambiguous S9 material:
The LoD talking to discord!Grogar implies that Equestria was settled before it was called Equestria, so the play ponies couldn't be finding pure virgin land if they were moving into the region. So I think this is more evidence to thing that the exodus in the play is apocryphal, though obviously it's not conclusive either way.
