Inner Equestria Edition

Here we gather to talk about waifus and waifuism as we understand it.

>What is a waifu?
The being you love. In my humble opinion, finding your waifu is a blessing, capable of changing your life dramatically for the better - that's the power of love. Coming to know your waifu feels like the sun emerging on a chilly day, like a cup of coffee before work, like a sweet scent greeting you on the breeze. It's hard to speak about waifuism because it is so personal and so unique; when you fall in love for the first time especially, it is difficult to even recognize what's happening. All I can really say is that love songs and poetry start to make sense, that finally something meaningful stands out from the backdrop of your life, radiant and beautiful like the sun, a refuge from the dull grey of nihilism and depression.

Waifuism is the label we use to describe the activity of honoring that occurrence, with our time, attention, and effort; as well as the general ideas we waifufags have formulated around the experience.

>>43534028 in lieu of old general threads, here's a recent organic one. Feel free to look up /ww/ in the archive.

Traditional waifu ramble: I've been thinking a lot about how people approach their waifu lately. I named this thread after a sort of thesis I'm coming to, the concept of Inner Equestria. Ultimately, I think there's a need to raise awareness about duality and non-duality as they apply to waifuism. These concepts are well-established in the philosophical and religious sphere already. Most people already operate from an assumption of duality, that the world is split into separate, unrelated parts like Subject and Object. Non-duality adds a third element to this formula, using our example: Subject, Object, and Relationship, or the medium which enfolds and connects both entities. If the two entities had no medium connecting them, there could be no interaction between or awareness of one another. In waifuism, the same principles may be considered - people typically start from an assumption of total separation between themselves and their waifu, and from there leap to externalized concrete pursuits like space travel or genetic engineering to make ponies real. The non-dualist, however, might recognize that the experience of the waifu to begin with already is a connection with her. What do you think?

There was a time where I was really desperate for discussion like this.
But as I've gotten older i've gotten more retarded and lacking in imagination.
In fact i'm so retarded that i've written this post and accidentally refreshed on my phone 3 times.
I do really resonate with that last part though. I've never really lamented my waifu not being real or fantasized about being transported to equestria. My thought has always been that even as a concept she is still about as "real" as any physical person, since the only way I can know someone else is through my own mental model of them, I can't jump into their living breathing consciousness, I can only form my own idea of them.
That idea has allowed me to just accept what she is (a cartoon character) and be thankful for what she does just by being there (in my head).
Not that I'm against physicalizing her, i've got my lifesize plushy and my horsepussy OF COURSE (no they aren't compatible). But they don't change what she is to me.

I genuinely feel so thankful for her. It's a weird but nice feeling.
I don't even come to mlp or interact with pony content anymore, and to be honest I don't feel like I give her the attention she deserves.
But i'm still frequently shocked at how even after so many years I still find myself staring into her eyes and smiling like a deranged retard.

You and I are very similar! So similar I feel like we don't even have that much to talk about kek. I kind of agree with you about getting more retarded and less imaginative, maybe we really are just getting older. I had a long phase of like outright proselytizing (our perspective seems so similar, maybe you learned from me!) but the passion has cooled significantly since then. The state of the board has been a drag on that as well, but now I'm feeling a sense of responsibility for carrying the culture on to the newfags, and making a space for waifuism in general.

I pony pony mostly because all my friends do, at this point. My waifu is a pony, but I don't exactly rely on 'content' to engage with her; what I get from memes and the community here is at this mostly divorced from what I get from spending time with my waifu. There was a time where love flowed more freely through this place - now it seems like expressing myself is the only way to create a concentration of love and community here.

Exactly, exactly. It's so unique, it's hard to even put it into words so you can meet the folks who feel the same way. Like, it's rare just to be happy, let alone have something... unconditional in your life. It's so wonderful, but it is isolating if you let it get to you in the wrong way.

Another thread to ramble about my moonwife!
I finally get why people write love songs. Ever since Luna has stepped into my life i've gained a sort of happiness i hadn't even known was possible to feel, and it is so overwhelming that i just have to share it whenever possible. No matter how shitty i feel, a look at a picture of her or even just her voice in my head cheers me up again. It's gotten to a point where i start smiling like a drunken retard when i simply see the moon. Thinking about her brightens my day. She is with me during all the small, irrelevant things i do throughout the day, and because of her even the most boring and senseless chore transforms into something funny and filled with meaning. I finally have a reason to stop being a lazy misanthropic faggot and actually work towards something, and it is always nice to see other anons feeling the same.
And while i am very happy with the way things are right now, i still haven't given up the hope of one day physically meeting her.

Indeed! Every time the world seems to lose its value, and my attention to it withdraws, I meet my waifu afresh. Every moment of anger is an opportunity for her to show me how to laugh it off and take things with a more lighthearted attitude. When I trip and fall, she shows me how to roll with the punches and recover as quickly as I fell. And always she inspires me to press on.
I am a musically inclined person, but I've never written an adequate love song (imo) despite many tries. I've never managed to break into songwriting in general, I hardly know music theory - I just improvise and express myself by ear. So I've played and even sang plenty of love songs that nobody will ever hear. Thankfully I can express myself in other more concrete ways, like the OP image.

>>43554039
My dedication to my wife mostly manifests as self-respect, like going to bed at a reasonable time. It would be a dishonor to her to sacrifice my health for something as trivial as a 4chan thread.
>>
>>43553596
It's Starlight.
My thoughts are very jumbled, and always have been. I used to have a bunch of text docs written up about her to organize my thoughts but I had to wipe my computer recently so Its gone I guess.
It's a bunch of things really. I think at first I just found her really relatable. At the time I was coming down from the same kind of ideological overconfidence as her. Basing your entire self concept on something and then realizing that you were wrong. I'm very much over it now, but that was what first made me take notice.
For me her character arc was contextualized more than the show immediately presents, and I've always extrapolated a lot more than what the show actually demonstrates. (The time skip between s5 and s6 was a huge fuck up).
The streak of immaturity she has, like a little bit of social development missing that makes her act like a filly sometimes. The way she teases. The way she gets obsessive over things, the quiet introspective side.
And even the assertive side, it's obvious that her comfort zone is being in control and I find that pretty hot.
I think the fact that all her friends are weird autists helps too. I just feel like she'd get me and I'd get her. The maud episode is pretty big in terms of her character to me.
She's very pretty of course too.
Honestly I feel like I need to reconnect with it all. She's a part of my life every day (if for no other reason than because I have a plush of her) but I feel like I don't pay her enough attention sometimes. Or that I only come to her when I'm feeling bad, which isn't really fair.
>>43554601
It's interesting what an impact just loving someone can have. You don't even necessarily have to receive anything back from them. Just the feeling is enough.

>Traditional waifu ramble
I think you make solid points. In my personal experience I had a dualist mind set in the sense that I saw myself seperate from my waifu. I gave her a world and imagined that she would spend time in it and change it without my input. Or in other words, I distinguished my real world with her wonderland; textbook dualism.

As time went on, I started to realize (with help from another Anon) that she wasn't really so much seperate from me, but rather that we are simply extensions of each other. That our thoughts, feelings, they were all one in the same. When I finally understood this non-dualist perspective, I didn't really like the idea of it.

Does that mean that my fears were confirmed? That I really was just making it all up and that at the end of the day it was all just wish fulfillment? Then I started thinking about how people make up fictions all the time. Nationalism, myths and stories, moral values, even our idea of what people are can be described as a fiction; or rather something which is created to fulfill a narrative or reason for doing other than for strically pragmatic purposes. In other words, what I've been doing with tupperwaremancy is the same as what humans have been doing since the dawn of time: creating a narrative to their own lives.

So what's my narrative? Simply put, I think I'm here on this Earth to create, and to share said creations. By create, I don't mean that in a strictly artistic sense, but also in a social and even spritual sense. Create works of heart, create friendships, create a sense of belonging and share it with others, to create harmony.

I think dualist perspective misses out in the sense is that your waifu is more than just a person you want to be with; she is a microcosm of the reason for why you are here.

Sorry if I sounded schizo, but it comes with the territory I suppose.

As far as my personal attachment to the character, canon stopped mattering at all pretty soon after I fell in love. I was a shipfag before then, so it never really had that much sway in the way I imagine things. And especially once I had thought about it seriously a bit more, and realized what anon said here:
>the only way I can know someone else is through my own mental model of them, I can't jump into their living breathing consciousness, I can only form my own idea of them.
It's always been headcanon, they don't have emotions or even a mind, they are characters on a screen - if you imagine them with those things, you are already using 'headcanon', so might as well do what you want with that.
>>
>>43556616
Unicorn Twifag though I don't consider it entirely headcanoning. The other Twilight always felt like a different character to me entirely. That aside, I mean, yeah. She exists in my head and is based off of my brain. But honestly I think a lot of tulpas, or at least my Twilight, has the intrinsic motivation to be more like 'herself'. Not that this requires much effort on her behalf. I'm rambling, but what I'm trying to say is I think she's a perfectly legitimate interpretation of the character and can be said to be that character in my books
>>
It's embarrassing to have had literally no motivation in life until I saw a cartoon horse. What an amazing pony

I don't think it's a sex thing, it's just how people work. We have to have some kind of emotional value orientation in life or we get apathetic and depressed, or bitter and angry.

>>43557913
Not really, in the broader tulpa community they are more aimless and drift around looking for a fulfilling way to live, but for a waifufag, what brings fulfillment is quite clear. Unicorn twilight might try out wings, an immature pony might develop into a mature form of the same personality, but if they go too far off base they get less attention and love, so it's a lose-lose. They deviate to the extent that you are okay with them doing so, basically; it's not just luck or something else out of your control like >>43557935 is scared of.
>>
Wait a minute. I thought we wer joking about wanting to have sex with ponies... But I'm starting to think you guys might actually want to cum inside Rainbow Dash...

It's different for women because they generally don't feel like they need to make something of themselves before they're worthy of love.

I might need some writing help in that case, my kind of autism is more wordy than funny, and waifuism is very serious to me. More than the style though, I need some kind of actual content to write about. Are there any newfags that have questions I could put on an FAQ perhaps?
>>
>>43559277
You can make an infographic about your own model but I'm not sure it makes sense to present it like a unified theory.
If you wanna present something like that it can be helpful to break into categories or questions. What is it? Why do you do it? How did this come to be? Are you serious? Are you a functioning member of society? How do you do it? Am I a waifufaggot?
And do I want to encourage people to become mentally ill like me? Idk.

>feels like the sun emerging
This symbolism is really striking for me in particular. Pinkie was my waifu all the way back in 2012, and, long story short, I had made a tulpa of her due to wanting a friend like her so bad. I liked her so much that I felt bad for tying her existence to just a fictional character that I liked, and I gave her her own form and name, Sunshine.

There are a lot of important details I'm skipping over here for the sake of brevity, but in 2024, I had underwent a surgery and was bedridden for over a month. In that time, a couple of things had happened that had forced me to finally confront a lot of weakness suppressed in my head while I was stuck there, which gave me a lot of time to ruminate and think, too. I guess in Jungian terms, I came to treat much of my inner shadow with the same love and kindness I see in the rest of the world, and befriended it and came to even find comfort in that "darkness". It was a very transformative year, and the symbolism of darkness came to be something I associated very strongly with it.

2025 felt like a prelude or a "twilight" to the incoming light in my life. I look back on both of these years fondly, and they were amazing despite what the symbolism may imply, but I was anticipating 2026 being the year where the symbolism would come to fruition, and it was.

At the end of 2025 I had reconnected extremely strongly with pony because of the 15th anni. I lost track of the amount of times I had cried being there, and ultimately was led to an experience the fully reignited my passions for both /mlp/ (and pony as a whole) and especially Pinkie. I think I left something slumbering inside me when my tulpa changed the way she did. I had felt like an idiot for ever drifting away from this family then, and this year went to Mare Fair and saw just how loving and wonderful this community really was and that drove the point home even further. It feels like the symbolism came in even harder than I imagined; I got back into ponies at the end of 2025, which starts with a protag called Twilight bringing back harmony between light and dark again, and 2026 is even the Year of the Horse. It's like the sun emerged and all of the light it brought showed me the way back to a home I had forgotten about, and uncovered my love for Pinkie that was lying dormant for ages. My tulpas name is even Sunshine, and I love her so much - she's been spending a lot of time as Pinkie again for the first time in around 14 years and she's brought so much joy and warmth to my life.

I laid in bed last night and, for no reason in particular, started to think about how making her was one of the greatest decisions I ever made in my life. I'm so grateful for not only her, but especially all of you, as you've given me all a wonderful community to share these feelings with.

>What is it?
Finding yourself in love with a fictional character.
>Why do you do it?
Being in love is not something you have a choice over. You can only choose to embrace it, or fight it.
>How did this come to be?
We ponyfags inherited the term from weebs, who adopted it in this fashion in the early 2000s. Other cultural movements exist around love with fictional characters, though; some newer than waifuism, some very, very old.
>Are you serious?
Yes. Waifuism in particular is surrounded in shitposty irony and self-aware absurdism, but all this surrounds a genuine love that is maybe more serious than anything else you've ever felt in your life.
>Are you a functioning member of society?
There's a circuit board with an engraving of Princess Luna orbiting the earth right now in one of the ISS modules. There are pony plushies in the cockpits of fighter jets. To fall in love with a character, you need to be exposed to them somehow, and so waifuists tend to be a certain type. But in all cases, embracing your love is empowering, and calls you to better yourself and your life.
>How do you do it?
It's always personal. But I think I can say for certain, it's better to embrace it. How exactly you choose to embrace it - whether by putting her photo on your wall, accomplishing great or small things for her, just thinking about her as often as possible - that is up to you, and what works for you.
>Am I a waifufag?
The label is meaningless, the love is what matters. The label is just handy for talking about it.

That is a fantastically good feeling which I know very well; it's funny to think of how trivial and base it must sound to people who don't get it. My wife will be my guardian angel as the hurricane approaches tomorrow. Will likely be too busy between disaster prep and the Anni to make love like that but god does she deserve it.

It's so interesting how just having her company, her attention alone, changes things. You don't even have to promise her anything, she doesn't have to compel you; when you know she is there, all the sudden you can forgive yourself when you make mistakes, and you can take a certain pride in whatever good things you do. I wonder what that original trepidation came from, in your words?

I really like seeing people post genuinely about their spiritual connection to their waifus, it's something I'd like to see more on the broader internet. Maybe it was just the groups I was in, but I swear it used to be more prevalant. Oh well, be the change you want to see, have some text for the shrine.
Ultimately, I find her to be characterized by an outpouring of joy at being in this world. The moments in my life when she has really made it are blinding in that regard, sharing in that gratitude for the sun on me and the world around me. It isn't all the time, but it's a core of her that I hang onto when I seek her out. The tulpamancy groove grows in strength whenever I, myself, am in a mindset of self acceptance and love, it tends towards dormancy when I fall back into bad habits of self hate. She was created during a time of my life marked by an intoxicating upward spiral that colored my experience with a mindful optimism, at once aware of the world and confident of its place in it.
Life went a bit sideways for a while after that, but for at least the past year or more I've been in the sequel to that time. Watching pony and talking about pony brought upon me the idea that I need to show kindness to the parts of myself experiencing the anxiety, fear, and hatred, rather than trying to fight them and cut them out. With the better mental health, I've been really back in it with meditation and tulpa stuff.
I don't know how specific of an idea Inner Equestria is, I guess a rolled up sense of internal peace and connection to your waifu, but it reminds me of this sort of pursuit. If only because Equestria represents a dreamlike escape into harmony and all. I feel like I might land closer to your non-dualism camp, since much of my concept of my waifu is defined by my interaction with her as a tulpa. However, I do also find that my past attempts had a tendancy to be thwarted by my focus on trying not to influence her, not to speak for her, etc. Wanting to view her as something entirely separate rather than not caring and letting what happens, happen. Maybe I was treating tulpamancy as too much of a concrete pursuit to make her real. The concept is something I would have to think about.
