Fans gave Luna far more depth than Hasbro themselves did. She literally has the potential of Darth Vader or Arthas. The Nightmare Moon storyline could have been turned into a masterpiece. A feature-length prequel format detailing the history a thousand years before FiM would have been a perfect fit. Something in the style of a "gothic fairy tale" similar to Disney's The Hunchback of Notre Dame. With a bittersweet ending leading directly into the events of FiM, so the audience wouldn't be left wanting to hang themselves. I remember how The Moon Rises and Lullaby for a Princess gave me goosebumps back in the day. Ideally, those songs could have been made canon in a movie like that. Like, it shouldn't be too hard to just find people who care, take risks, and invest in the future of the franchise properly, but even despite having something with a ton of cultural and nostalgic appeal they kind of half-ass so many of their releases.They're sitting on a goldmine but the problem is they can only see the potential gold in the way a bunch of shareholders do. In hindsight, the signs were there from the beginning that MLP wasn't going to be the deep, rich, beautiful thing that I thought of it as in my mind... Of a grand Tolkien-esque land of deep fantasy and a level of compassion, innocence, and caring displayed by its inhabitants of which we human beings are not capable of. A thing of raw wonder.By season 3 I had already separated the canon universe of the show from "the true Equestria" as I know it ought to be. The TV show is just that... A simple trivial media product. The Equestria in my mind? Powerful. Awe-inspiring. Beyond comprehension. Even sacred. And Nightmare Moon will never be anything less than an ancient, godly, superlunary entity of myth and legend. A grand transcendent figure with an epic Luciferian fall from grace... May she 'ever be alive in my heart.
