Anyone have any interesting green ideas that you’ve thought about writing, but just never got around to? Maybe it was an idea you really liked but couldn’t figure out where to take it, something you didn’t have enough time to work on, or just a random concept that’s been sitting in the back of your mind for years.

I’d really like to hear about them.

Anon, who does not speak equish, finds his way to ponyville but is recognized as the same kind of "person" as tank, or a particularly spooky random spider, and is largely ignored.

Eventually, he manages to make eye contact with a mare and tries to communicate, close and direct like, and they see something in him which is incompatible with this world. They find a something reflected in him, and it infects them. This effect spreads to other ponies through the first. A cult forms around his existence without him fully understanding it, and grows in influence and causing no small amount of societal damage as the fundamental nature of its members seems to have changed for the worse.

This cult is ultimately folded into the culture of pony kind after some conflict, and the last planned scene was meant to be anon resting in the back of a cathedral, among the benches on the second floor, as some kind of sacred beast who is not meant to be approached directly. The ponies do not know he is up there, but do know that he sometimes skulks about temples, and may sometimes be at a service such as this. He partakes in some of the free snacks which have been left out.

King Anon establishes the Equestrian Guard and leads from the front in glorious battle to protect all of Equestria, while the Royal Guard are just a smaller force that only protects the castle and the resident royalty.
BonBon as a Recon mare, gathering information behind enemy lines.
They also have an elite earthpony team called the Thunderhooves and an elite unicorn team called either the Stormlocks, Stormcallers or something with lightning.
I admit these ideas are kinda stupid but also they're kinda badass IMO. and I absolutely did not just come up with them on the spot. nope. no sir.

Something I had in mind for another Kingnon bit was the idea that in the earlier days of Equestria Anon would lead battles personally. To keep from fully engaging his mind with the violence he would sing during the fighting, which his soldiers eventually joined in on. Enemies came to fear songs on the wind. That tradition would carry to the modern day, specifically altering the trajectory of Rainbow Dash's character to wanting to join the "Chanting Squadron", Anon's personal guard (both in the palace and on the field) rather than the Wonderbolts.

I know this is probably actual battle songs he remembers or ones he tried to cook up, but the thought of him blasting "Creeping Death" while chucking lightning is funny to me.

Now i got random songs i'm trying to mash into equestria. Here are a few quick swaps.

"It's a long way to Tipperary" --> "It's a long way to Canterlot" - Dont know any towns/cities that would be up in early equestria so canterlot is a stand in.

"The Duce puts on his uniform" --> "The king puts on his uniform" - This would be neat if Sombra attacks first with initial succes but was pushed back. Does depend on which king anon since some pop up years after he's supposed to dissapear.

"The white cliffs of Dover" --> "The white cliffs of Canterlot" - Since canterlot is on a mountain thought it would fit.

is he a human that knew the show and is just fucking around and having fun à la the Dash Mom Anon but with a twist? is he a human that doesn't know about the humans like PegaAnon's anon? is there actually some Sombra there? something else?

There are a bajillion stories about a human with knowledge of the show being dropped in the middle of it, so it would be hard to do something original with it. Plus there is an opportunity to have an ongoing theme about discovering the magical world if it is actually new to the character.
If I were doing this, I'd keep a potential Sombra connection ambiguous, maybe not settling it one way or the other at all.

I was super inspired by the moonanon spitballing thread (https://ponepaste.org/12081), where a ye olde English speaking, frail anoncolt made/birthed by Nightmare Moon was a recurring villain whose motivation was missing his mom. "Villainous make-a-wish kid" sent me. I made decent headway on an outline, but lost steam. Mostly I was having fun coming up with exaggerated old timey insults.
The idea was roughly:
>Luna after being restored rejects moonanon as Nightmare's spawn, leading him to repeatedly try to turn her back into NM
>His plan is always instantly derailed when he sees Luna and starts a vicious ye olde insult match between them until he's blasted by the elements and being banished back to the moon, at which point he hard switches from mean villain to pathetic child
>"Mother...please... the moon is so cold... without you..." type shit
>Scooby gang is half traumatized, Flutteryshy is a wreck for days
>Anon escapes the moon a week later. Proudly claims he achieved it with dark magic powered by his negative feelings of "hatred and the desire for revenge" while covered in snot and tears
>Extremely obvious to everyone his negative feelings were of loneliness and missing his mommy
>The whole thing repeats.
>Girls try to talk him down and get insulted and ignored because they're not Luna and he's 100% mommy issues.

If you want a more serious/dark tone you could have him uncovering how he was made/tranported to equestria while slowly regaining his memories, which could be an interesting way to increase drama throughout the story. Him starting out like an actual child but rapidly maturing to where it makes the family suspicious of what Anon actually is.Then full memory Anon has both his own memories but also the old umbra memories so does't fully know what to think of the royal family. Athough it would be a very different dynamic I could see people complaining its like "A Fateful Flurry" so eh.

Just spitballing ideas rn. From the snippet here I think you could take it wherever you want and it woud be good. Although I brought up a darker tone I think the current comedy/comfy is really good. I'm just an angst fan so I got a bias for darker stories. If you do continue I wish you luck!

An idea I’ve had for a medium length greentext. Anon (in what would be his second life) enlists in the Royal Guard and goes through training and deployment as a guard in the royal castle, occasionally going out to fight monsters and shit. One idea I have would be to have Anon be a close friend to Shining Armor and have them be like brothers. This can later result in Anon meeting Twilight or something.

Maybe Anon appeared out of the Everfree like PegaAnon and dogmatically believes that he can only be somepony by throwing himself into the service, or maybe he has a strong loyalty to the world that gave him so much comfort (if he’s watched the show before). One part of this idea is that he’s taking the opportunity to do all the military shit he dishonorably larped as a human or some form of this. Now for the most important question:
Do I make him a unicorn, earth pony, or pegasus? I feel like we have too much pegasi.

It's hard to imagine willingly joining the guard with the show as a reference, either for genuine service or as an ascendant larper. They're just kind of useless in a relative utopia where real threats are handled by princesses. Could join out of necessity like joining real life military: food, cot, paycheck, being on your feet after your term of service is up, and along the way he develops a genuine passion for the life.

As for species, it's kind of a mixed bag. Earthpony could be interesting if you're willing to rebalance the tribes a bit and expand on their own abilities because otherwise they're essentially worthless as a guard. And if anon is paired with Shining a lot it would let them have different strengths. But in terms of canon ability, a unicorn would almost universally better. You could also go the changeling route. He just takes on long term anon disguise and joins the guard as planned but with interesting byplay because of the Shining/Cadence/wedding stuff.

There's a reason warriors wore ceramic plates and bamboo into battle. A human costs a mother's love and a huge pile of turnips if you've got the time to wait. You can even skip on the love if you want, or just toss migrants into the battlefield for basically free.

A suit of armor costs the time and effort of skilled artisans and the fuel for heat at an expensive building. Bamboo costs some rope and a literal weed, crafted by cheaper artisans.

So if a soldier costs $800, and he kills 4 soldiers that cost $200 before death, that's a tie.

If a mage costs the time of other mages and teachers and access to the most expensive knowledge in the world which must be guarded, and his specific skill is not quite interchangeable with the particular ability of any other mage and must be carefully added to the tactics of each general they work for, then losing a mage is expensive, while 400 angry applebloom's throwing rocks are cheep.

In universe, the actual result seems to be less that the earth ponies wrath bought victories through numbers, and more that the earth ponies just want to chill while everyone else has to oppress them in order to have food. So maybe earth ponies would rather avoid most war.

Honestly, a pegasus makes the most sense to me, but any tribe works. Play it straight, avoid "I'm doing this because of my traumatic childhood" nonsense and "self-insert wants to bang canon character", watch interviews with actual soldiers for inspiration. Or at least read some good military fics and greens.
And you can write all the overlooked parts that still have to happen even though Princesses and Elements save the day, like dealing with the Big Bad's underlings and lieutenants, minor infiltrations by griffon bands, changelings, smugglers, that kind of thing. The main characters may be powerful, but they still need someone to watch their back.
And there is still room for conventional warfare. It may not be shown explicitly in the show, but a standing army is a deterrent, and they may have to make a show of force from time to time to remind Equestria's rivals what they're up against.

Probably, but I always said it as written.

If you actually exist in the mlp world at the time when cozy and crew are de-powered, and so all the long-term ramifications of real life exist and the simplified narrative expressions of events within fictional contexts do not exist, then most of the reasons why it is bad to stone the mean 3 evaporate. It stops being the final word on the situation.

It's still kind of fucked up that you're using force on someone who has become powerless magically, physically, and socially. Like, you know the mean 3 would do bad things if they could, but they can't, so even arresting them doesn't make you any safer. But, other than the horror of it, putting them in stone just doesn't seem to do any real harm if it isn't the final solution at the end of a show and framed as an unarmed public execution. If you know you plan to, like, let them back out, then the stoning wasn't actually your solution to the challenge which the m3 pose. It's just stalling. And that's fine.

So if an anon gets in that situation and refuses to stone them, it's either because he's still treating this as the finale of a show, which is no longer accurate, or it's because he thinks that the ponies will refuse to unstone them and are actually using this as a permanent solution.

If stoning is a painless process and time in stone is not perceived by those who are stoned without extra-sensory reality-warping power like discord, then it's not any different from teleporting them across time to whatever place you choose to unstone them. It's a narrative and moral failing if it implies that some people are irredeemable, which it does not if the situation is real and literal but it does if the situation is the end of a story.

Queen chrysalis just wanted to be a bug queen and feed her hive, which was possible and happened, and she is currently mad because her hive directly rejected her within her interpretation of events.

Tirek wanted strength initially, and got along well enough with his brother that his brother was capable of betraying him effectively. By implication, strength is something his culture likely valued, and this was likely an attempt to meet the masculine ideals of his people at first. He got considerably worse after being betrayed, just like chrysalis, and now seeks power in order to protect himself from the possibility of betrayal, even when it involves using betrayal to get more power.

Cozy gets no backstory, which can mean that she simply has no reason for her actions, but that's nonsense. In their attempt to create a character who has no excuse, the writers failed to actually show that she has no excuse.

All three are retarded. All three also get worse every time they are thwarted. The same thing happens to flim and flam, and to bulk biseps, and to trixie. Trixie is a character who did nothing but feel sorry for herself after her second highly violent appearance, until she and glimmer bonded. Their first conversation was about how they both feel the pain of people judging them for doing horrible things, which they did.

Starlight directly challenges twilght multiple times on the hypocritical limitations of the extension of her mercy. Starlight is always correct when she does this. Trixie, though a dumb retard, shows a model for the redemption of evil people who literally like being evil, like starlight and somewhat like trixie.

I don't think Diamond Tiara is the same level as Chrysalis who tried to forcefully enslave every single pony and invaded the capital or Tirek who stole every creatures magic and detroyed multiple towns. There's a very big difference between the small villains that have a couple small appearences and are usually only impactful on a town level and national threats that actively want to take over the country. Luna already served 1000 years on the moon and after the friendship beam she was redeemed. Starlight almost ruined the timeline but she still came around at the end of her 2nd appearance. Discord is iffy cause he did come around to friendship but he did also betray the main cast twice, though the 2nd he was trying to act like Celestia and set up Twilight for success and did support them in the end. Chrysalis, Tirek, and Cozy, all rejected multiple attempts at friendship and showed no hint of any reflection on their actions.

While the morality of putting Cozy in stone is questionable, it is somewhat dependant on whether they are concious throughout their imprisonment or when they are let out. We do not know either of these facts which leads to the debate usually involving headcannons which are iffy arguments (same with Cozy's backstory). I personally don't think Twilight and co are going to let them rot in stone forever, or atleast they will try again with Cozy, but again that's headcannon.

It would have been a coherent message. You could argue that it's about scale of danger, self protection, and that can be more important than redemption past a point. You could say starlight's damage was all theoretical.

Instead there's.... well I have a very strong opinion about why the line was drawn where it was drawn in mlp. It's not right, but I think it's what is in the show. Basically, the main 6 characters never actually make the choice to save anyone, not once. The most exceptional case was starlight, and twilight needed starlight to surrender because starlight held all the power in that moment. There's also the manticore, who never did anything wrong but defend himself and be an animal in the first place.

If Celestia remembers him it would be funny to see their reaction to him returning considering they try to not interfer with the timeline. I wonder if they meet only for like graduation or something and she suddenly sees what looks exactly like anon's dad if she didnt know Zephyer existed. Thus the unravelling as Celestia remembers more anons popping up throughout history. She has a sudden flashback to the first anon who she meet on the road during her and Luna's adventure to claim the throne/gain their celestia powers. Was there a note on the earliest Anon in the old castle?

While the interdemensional mirror could pop up in a different for, i think the author confirmed awhile back in a comment the EQG wasn't cannon. We still have Sunset, but dont know much of anything about her yet except for family ties to sunbeam and still leaving Celestia.

I know that there are alternate universes in the comics with stuff like good Sombra, and while unlikely, something could potentially be from one of those au's. I dont remember how they were accessed though, been awhile since ive seen anything regarding the comics
