G4 was made good by the collaboration between Faust, Hasbro, and the others that were involved in the character and world design S1-2. Everything else good in it is just TV writers who were able to use the framework for fairly generic children's television of varying quality.Pop culture references were a part of the thing which killed the series in a big way, that being the de-ponification of it. G4 being more cognizant of the Chinese market in particular is, IMO, a good thing. Stuff which sells well in both the US and China is able to stand above regional culture and one way to do that is to just be good.>How will it compare to MLP FIM?It won't be as cute obviously because the designs are worse, but beyond that it's anyone's guess. It could be horrible beyond reason, it could be practically just as good. I certainly think that even if it is quality work it won't be as engaging since it'll be written for a younger audience with less of that 'good family movie which has jokes for the parents' energy of G4 and I also doubt the quality will be as high, but we'll see.Nothing about the hippos has been a massive fumble yet, even if I do wish they didn't have duck beaks.

When I did watch the show I stuck mostly to some of the Russian sites and what I could find in Japanese, German etc. The family aspects of G4 translated quite nicely in China, love the new years merch. Japan too. So curious how G6 will pan out, really surprised no one's made an Equestria Girls anime, they did Powerpuff Girls Z a while ago.

The problem with late G4 was the writers (and the animators in a certain sense, since S1 was carried on the backs of strong writer-animators which meant that the ideas of the text were displayed on screen correctly and you had a more coherent and whimsical world without needing to change the dialogue or anything).

I am not thrilled with the designs for G6, they look blocky and fat. WHy they did that I don't know. I heard they are going with the magical girl aesthetic, hoping that works out.

If they limited themselves to 3 colors and 2 accessories max, then I think this could shape up to being something special. The pattern around the hooves is a bit distracting too. Fluffy fetlocks would look much better.

>>43564927Here's more what I had in mind. I did a quick edit of my favourite design and redid the hooves, fetlocks, took out the white in the hair, and took out the spots in the bow. My version isn't spectacular, but I prefer it much more than the original.
