Monumentally influential part of the fandom. Contemplative pony music, grimdark, and some other fandom staples all come directly from this guy.

He's mostly lost media at this point. Very few of his works survived. His primary thing was horror, but also dipped into eroticism and generally just beautiful art. He was phenomenal at his craft. Eventually, in the early era of fandom, he created the askblog askpinkamenadianepie. This was intersected with SEVERAL other askblogs, creating a total alternate universe based around Sgt Sprinklesnoriginal cupcakes work. The blog was a fantastic, gory, occasionally erotic, and quite sad story. It was an amazing time to be alive, even if you hated the themes, just because of the sheer beauty of creativity. This was so massive in its influence it lead to multitudes of other blogs inspired by it starting. Lil miss rarity, drunk Applejack, discord whooves, and many more all came from this guys existence. Even Imalou had a crooked trees-like blog about a suicidal pony. This all naturally spawned beloved /mlp/ board OC: Tracy Cage, a commentary on the phenomenon of increasing ripoffs of the original crookedtrees-verse that didn't understand the original content.

The blog would eventually be deleted, along with the other co-blogs. The golden era of Tumblr askblogs ceased at that point as well and grimdark pony content became gore-slop/porn.

Following along with the deletion of the blog, all of crookedtrees phenomenal artwork was deleted from his deviantart and purged from the net. Leaving only the saved pieces and artists that had preserved some gifts referencing him.

This lands us here, in the dark age.

I was obsessed with this as a youngster for some reason. I didn't even know Tumblr was a thing then, I just watched the same Youtube dubs every few months or so. It's amazing to know how influential this shit was and I only knew its full scope until now.

It is no small feat in saying that we owe much of fandom construction to crookedtrees. He inspired amazing creations, most of which lost to time. We have vague echoes of the original pinamemena Diane pie blog and the other "canonical" blogs tied into its universe (such as Ask Sadist Scootaloo).

Ever seen this image? You probably have. It's a meme staple on the board. It's also from one of the blogs tied into ask PDP-Verse setting. Crapplejack. One of the boards favorite depression memes comes from this artists existence.

There's no small way of saying it. He might be a "who?" To new fandom members, but he's a major architect of fandom culture that has been lost to time. More than you'd think comes directly from him and his influence.

>I was obsessed with this as a youngster for some reason.
Kids who aren't messed up in the head (or are messed up in the right way) and are cognizant of their place in the world as living beings, love dark content. But they especially love beautiful and "mystical" dark content. For the same reason they love fantasy.
Its not surprising this you liked the blog. It was an extremely beautiful work of art, as were all it's co-blogs. It's a shame so much of it is just completely lost. There might be a few things we can still save but who knows. Tumblrs fandom-censorship has only gotten worse over time
> I didn't even know Tumblr was a thing then, I just watched the same Youtube dubs every few months or so.
Classic.
> It's amazing to know how influential this shit was and I only knew its full scope until now.
There's a few artists like this. The askblog is just the tip of the iceberg for crookedtrees and that says a lot. There's other artists like this who shaped much of your fandom experience who have been forgotten to time.

OP should have posted this in the Lost media thread. We need archivists to try and save whatever they can from trees before it's gone forever.

Would it be worth me trying to start a comic or try and replicate some type of ask blog format with a twist on a show character (like nurse redheart)? I feel like we're kinda lacking the same level of activity, which is obviously due to the dwindling popularity of poners, but would something like this help? Would at least be something to do.
>>
>>43565383
Quite the blast from the past. I hate being reminded of the good times. Back when the internet was fun and interesting. And now what do we have? Fuck you OP.
>>

>Would at least be something to do.
If you think it'd get your noggin joggin and you'd have fun doing it, I don't see why not.

>Would it be worth me trying to start a comic or try and replicate some type of ask blog format with a twist on a show character (like nurse redheart)?
I would say yes, as long as it's coming from a genuine place. Make sure what you make resonates with you. Learn what made these askblogs and related fandom phenomenon good and then work on that from what you'd like to see.
>I feel like we're kinda lacking the same level of activity, which is obviously due to the dwindling popularity of poners, but would something like this help? Would at least be something to do.
It would help immensely. As long as it's coming from a genuine place and is made authentically, it would do a lot to revive things.

We need more creators and we also need more people participating in the creating (commenting, sharing, discussing, etc).
>>
>>43565503
Do note that if you do actually make your comic, I WILL shit on both you as an artist and the comic itself.
>>
Have people ever done ask threads here on 4chan? I feel like the format could work here as well since people do request threads and stuff.
>>
>>43566186
Yes, especially if you count CYOA threads. Feels like a dying format, especially as people grow less interested in supporting the new and just argue about the old.
Maybe it could be done again, if people cared to try. Seems like it'd be hard with how insincere and argumentative the culture has become, but some of us clearly still care, right?

i got a chance to talk to him. i think it was the clout that came with being miss "Notacleverpony". Pinkipieswear (a pony fanmusic person like myself) was friends with an artist called "sweatshirt" who at the time was close to CrookedTrees. Incredible person to talk to, and I regret having just sort of ghosted. Crooked trees influenced me just as I was leaving the fandom. this is me: https://mlpfanart.fandom.com/wiki/NotACleverPony
>>
>>43566363
Are you even the real NotACleverPony? Why'd you close your Youtube account?

>>43566380
you got me. 15 years. i dont know why i did it.. i have psychotic features

He could have been one of the greatest pony artists but he was obsessed with many grotesque fetishes.
picrel is the only image I know by him that shows his draw process. He apparantly live streamed some drawings but I think they are deleted forever.
>>
scary then scary now. clopping wasnt really my thing, but i know megasweet kept in touch with them. thanks so much, if u come across more stuff on the artist themselves iamnotacleverpony@gmail.com cheers

The god of guro Penka Posting, it would've never reached the level it did without him pulling most of the weight

The closest comparable things we had here recently are that CYOA about a pony and Ryan Gosling with /bale/-tier artstyle as well as Smel threads

Overrated.

I hate that about him, but it seems you can't have been horsefamous without being a complete degenerate.

Thanks anons, you've given me some more motivation to pick up on the idea I'd started a couple years ago. Might take a while to actually complete but I'm happy to try, might experiment with some more interactive ideas if I can figure out a good format both for me and other anons.
>>43565729
I wouldn't expect anything less soldier.
>>
I've had similar ambitions brewing, of making a comic with ask-blog elements. The main issue is "where to post it", as all of the major art sites seem to be terrible ideas.
>>
>>43567000
The only site I can think of that could have the ask-blog type setting could be MSPFA, but the layout is pretty shit. Other idea was to make a dedicated thread where anons could ask or give prompts, but I feel like it'd either die quickly or be accusing of clogging the board. I'll stew on it, if (you) think of anything I'm all ears.
>>
>>43567032
I feel like hosting it on its own website would make the most sense, but that probably has its own issues.
>>
>>43566655

I dunno. I'm not a web developer, so I don't know what I don't know. The main concern is "how do people find it in the first place and get notified of updates".
