"Fuck, fuck, fuck, no no no!"
>You are Sour Sweet
>And you are so screwed
>Your mom's brand new car
>It was running just fine a few minutes ago
>Then that jackass cut you off
>You swerved onto the curb
>Now it won't stop vibrating enough to make your teeth clack together and it's making this weird clunking sound
>Your parents were out of town for the weekend
>This was just supposed to be a fun trip with the girls
>Now it might be your last time seeing them
>Oh god
>They're really gonna send you to boarding school this time
"This can't be happening! This isn't happening!"
>"It can be, and it is." Sugarcoat helpfully adds
"Wow, thanks so much for the clarity, Sugar!" You condescend as you pace
>Indigo Zap knows something about bikes, she reckons she might be able to do something
>But she's been under the car for five minutes
"Indigo! Did you die under there or something!?"
>That's the last thing you need
>The pale, spiky blue haired sports star of your academy pushes herself back out from the car
>"Okay, so cars are a lot more complicated than bikes apparently. But I'm pretty sure it's something to do with the wheels. The rod thing on the other side is fine, but this side?" she says, kicking one of the wheels, "Super bent."
"Like, how bent?" You ask, holding onto the last thread of hope
>"About, Lemon Zest headbanging levels of bent." Indigo says, a thumb over her shoulder to the girl in question, headbanging more than 90 degrees
>You drag your hands down your face
>You nearly tear your eyes out
>You nearly tear your hair out
>That would be preferable to this
>Finally you let the built up tension of the past few minutes go and scream
>It's brief
>Too brief
>And it doesn't help
>"Are you done?" Sugarcoat asks
>You spin on your heels to face her and jab a finger near her face
"Not in the mood, Sugar! Unless you have an actually helpful suggestion."
>"You should just take it back, none of us know how or have the tools to fix a car, and any of our parents would tell yours immediately. You're doomed." Is all she offers in her usual deadpan monotone
>You sigh and let yourself crumple to the pavement
>She's right
>You drop your head into your knees and put your arms over yourself
>What are you gonna do?
>As the question bounces, unanswered, in your head, a tap pulls your attention to Lemon Zest of all people
>You're surprised she's not banging out to more overly loud music to burst her eardrums at the ripe old age of 25
>"So are we getting back on the road, or...?" She asks, oblivious
"Oh, SURE!" You say with a smile. "Sorry to keep you waiting, Lemon, it's just that one of my mom's tires is bent!” Your smile drops. “And we can't fix it!"
>She stares at you for a moment before blinking and her eyes widen in something you don't quite recognize
>"Ooooooh, is THAT what your screaming was about? I thought my song was leaking through my headphones again, this guy really knows how to scream, you almost had the same pitch."
>>

>She almost puts her cacophonous headphones on your ears but you smack them away
"Lemon! Not helping!" You chide
>"Well, if it's car trouble, let's just get someone to fix it." She offers
"Oh, that'd be great." You say sweetly, only for your voice to curdle a moment later. "Except no one we take it to will keep their mouths shut about it to my parents!"
>"I know a guy." She says simply
>You pause
>Does she mean what you think she means
>You leap to your feet, hope almost back
"You do!?"
>She grins and nods, flicking her hair into and out of your face "Sure I do! He goes to our school, I hang out at his garage sometimes ‘cause he blares some sick tracks."
>Oh god
>Please, someone tell you she doesn't mean who you think she means
<>
>With one last crank you tighten the new nut in place on the wheel
>The old rusty one in hand
>It served you well
>But your baby deserves the finer things in life
>She was your grandad's
>Then your dad's
>Now she's yours
>And you'll be damned if she goes down on your watch
>You are Anonymous
>Currently sliding on a creeper under your one
>Your only
>Your 1960 Lincoln Continental
>Sharp Dressed Man is blaring from your speakers
>The garage has always had great acoustics
>It always helps you focus
>And this weekend is all about focus
>You like to give your baby the full treatment every now and then to make sure she knows you still care
>With the new nut in place, and the tires checked, now you can really get into the dirty
>Inspecting her exhaust
>Checking her suspension
>Catching any leaks
>Making sure she hasn't damaged her cv joint gaiter
>Just you and her for the afternoon
>Until a foot rudely drags you out from under the car
>"Hey! We need to talk!"
>Sour Sweet
>Fantastic
>Oh, and she's brought her gaggle of harpies too
>Extra fantastic
>Without a word you reach a hand out, find the volume dial on your stereo and crank it to full making all of them step back and cover their ears
>Except Lemon Zest, who proceeds to give ZZ Top the headbanging respect they deserve
>With them drowned out, you roll back under your car and get back to work
>Sadly, it doesn't last as the music is cut off and you are dragged out from under the car
>You almost jump out of your skin as Sour all but leaps at you and grabs your shoulders
>"Help! Me!"
>Her words give you pause
>You had been ready to simply turn back on the stereo and bring it under the car with you to drive them away
>But you've never seen her THIS desperate
>Or anyone at Crystal Prep like this, honestly
>So she has your curiosity at least
>You sit up
"I'm listening" You say, in truth, only half-listening, the other half is playing the rest of ZZ Top in your head
>"Car trouble, I was driving through town when a guy cut me off when I obviously had the right of way- I had to swerve, hit a curb, and now one of the wheel's is messed up and my mom's gonna kill me and my dad's gonna send me to boarding school and my life is ruined and-"
>>
>>43625875
>You hold up a hand to her face to stop her manic emotional back and forth
"You had me at 'Car'."
>A mix of emotions flash across her face
>Relief, shock, worry, gratitude, and you're pretty sure disgust was in there somewhere too
>"Thank you SO much- you better not make it worse!" In her usual manner she flips between niceties and hissing through her teeth on a dime
>Her... you're not sure what they are, are they her friends?
>They have been a bit better since the Friendship Games
>You weren't expecting the particular series of upheaval that followed from the event in your school
>But now the five seemed to hang out in a way that isn't just maintaining social appearences, and more like they enjoy each other's company
>You wouldn't know
>Everything happening at Crystal Prep is far from your problem
>You go in, you get good grades, you kill it in shop class, then you go home and tend to your car
>Principal Cadance has been trying to convince you to make friends now that the school's focusing less on the academic excellence it usually delivers and more school-spirit
>Heck, she tried to get you to befriend that girl who became a raging she-demon even when she was the Dean
>What was that nerd's name again?
>Ah, well, she doesn't go to your school anymore, so who cares?
>You didn't bite then, you're not biting now
>A wrench in hand, and a car to work on, that's all the friendship you needed
>Besides, Lemon Zest came to headbang in your garage like every other day
>That's gotta count for something
>Even if the two of you never exchange a word, just song recommendations
>Regardless, all that is neither here nor there
>A mechanical beauty just had her heart broken, and needs a visit from the love doctor
"So, where is she?"
>"She?" Yep, definitely disgust from Sour Sweet
"The car." You reiterate
>There's a derisive snort turned into a chuckle followed by a low, drawn out "wow" from the gaggle
>Purple bob cut hair and light blue skin, Sunny Flare, if memory serves
>The discontent on your face must have shown cause Sour Sweet makes a slicing motion across her neck at the girl to tell her to shut up
>"It's right over here- now hurry up." Sour instructs as she storms over
You let out a low whistle as you approach the car, creeper tucked under your arm. "A lexus? What's she running with?"
>"Uh- I don't-" She begins with a scoff
"Hold this." You cut her off, shoving your creeper into her hands as you jog over to the car. "I was really hoping to see their old 1UZ-FE 4 liter V8. Landmark back in it's day. But this model's way too new." You drink in near every detail of the car as you circle it. "Maybe the 4.6 liter V8 1UR-FE? No, this looks NEW new, my money's on the 2UR-GSE." You can't stop the smile that splits your lip. "Man, 5 liter V8 engine." You pop the hood and confirm your suspicions. "Hello, beautiful."
>"So, can anyone translate?" You hear one of them ask, but you ignore it as you trace the lines of the pipes and systems
>>
>>43625882
>"It's mechanic jargon, Sunny." The distinctly raspy voice of Indigo Zap says
>She's and Lemon are the only two you can stand out of that lot
>You two nearly always compete in shop class
>Of course, she always comes second
>If she weren't focused on sports so much she might beat you before you all graduate in a few years
>"But. Can. He. Fix. It?" Sour hisses out through gritted teeth.
>"No clue. He's looking in the wrong place, the tyres don't feed into the engine block." Indigo says
>"What!?" Sour yells
>The conversation had mostly dulled to the background before you were abruptly pulled from lovingly staring into the engine's heart by Sour once again rudely getting in your face
>"Why are you looking at the engine when the problem's with the tyres!?" She nearly yells at you
>Your lack of flinching seems to only slightly calm her
"Firstly, get off." You emphasize with brushing a hand over her, getting her to comply. "Secondly, neither you, nor your half-baked excuse for a mechanic friend," you say, pointing at Indigo Zap, "told me where it was."
>Sour's face briefly shrinks as she realizes you were right, but only for a blink of an eye before she snaps back to annoyance
>"Half-baked!?" She can't get a word in though as Indigo Zap stomps up to you. "I handle vehicles just as much as you!" She claims
"Oh please, you're a biker!" You retort bitingly
>"You got a problem with motor-cross, string bean?" She yells rolling up her sleeves
>"ENOUGH!" Sour says inbetween you two. "Can you two go find a room and fuck in it AFTER you fix my mom's car!?"
>You choose to ignore her comment for your own sake as you and Indigo share glares
"Your mom's car? Wow, so you're like, extra screwed, huh?" You ask with a smirk as you turn back to the engine
>"Why are you going back into the engine?" She asks through gritted teeth, a sweet edge cutting the words
>You glide your hand among the pipes and slowly find gaps where the nuts and bolts would be secured by finer tools
>But it lets you get a good enough feel for it
"Because of my third point, and I have good news on that front." You wipe some of the engine grease from your hand onto your shirt as you pull it free
>It's one of your bad shirts anyway, made for getting messy
>Sour actually has a small glimmer in her eyes from your words
"The one thing your blue-haired friend got right, the tyres aren't connected to the engine block. However-" you quickly continue before she tries to get smug, "they ARE connected to the car's suspension. If the tyre takes a big enough hit, the force gets fed back into the suspension, too much feedback, and it's possible some metal will snap free and shoot through the engine like a bullet. That happens? You need to replace the engine, suspension, and the tyre."
>Your words draw more and more horror from the usually pseudo-sadistic girl as you paint a clearer and clearer picture of how wrong this could have gone for her
>>
>>43625889
>"B- but the good news is it's not that, right?" She asks with slight trepidation
You shake your head. "It's not that." You say flatly, and she heaves a sigh of relief.
>"We could have told you that." The flat monotone of Sugarcoat reminds you she's there. "We did drive here after all. It shook the whole way. It was annoying."
"Just cause a guy's still walking doesn't mean he hasn't been fatally shot." You counter
>"Will you please just check the tyres now and get this over with?" Sour asks
>She damn near pulling her lower eyelids into her cheeks with anger from how long this is taking
"Gimme that." You say as you casually grab back your creeper, lay it down and roll under the car
>You then immediately roll back out and gawk at the pink and blue ponytailed menace with a mix of your own disgust and indignant rage
>A work of mechanical art
>Bent so far it'd make a yoga instructor blush
>"What?" She asks, incredulous. "Are you gonna find the problem or n-"
"I already saw the problem." You state, standing.
>"Bull." She states back, poking you in the chest. "Indigo was under there for five minutes before she found the problem."
"Yeah, she's a biker." You reiterate
>"Oh, screw you, dude!" The biker in question shouts from the side
"You bent the left end of the front tie-rod." You explain
>"Then UN-bend it, jackass." She snips
>You stare at her again, mentally counting how many seconds it takes her to realize how stupid she sounded
>She goes back and forth between shrinking back and standing straight to glare at you
>Eventually she settles on a middle-ground of shame and indignation as she crosses her arms
>"Well? Can you unbend it or not?" She snips
"Ar you kidding? I couldn't bend a tie-rod this bad if I was actively trying to, what did you do?" You ask as you slide under the car to double-check you weren't in a delusional coma
>"It's more likely what she didn't do." Sunny Flare adds. "Like how she didn't take her driving test first."
>"Sunny!?" Sour yells
"You don't even have your license yet?" You ask
>"Uh- maybe?" She answers non-comitally
>You pinch the bridge of your nose
>This is getting out of hand
>But she did come all this way
"I can fix it for five hundred dollars" You state
>"Five hundred dollars!?" She yells icredulously
"Parts, my time," you brielfly list the reasons for your price on your fingers as a smirk grows on your face, "oh, and not telling your parents~" You finish
>The low, dull tacking of a digital keyboard can be heard as you glance at Sugarcoat typing rapidly into her phone
>"Or we could go to a mechanic and get it done for a fifth of that." She says, waving her phone
>Sour Sweet rounds on you with a smug grin of her own and her arms crossed
>How cute
>She thinks she's won
>But your smug doesn't dampen
"Do you really want to take a car not registered to your name to a mechanic?" You ask, and her mask cracks. "Without a license?" You add, and it breaks
>>
>>43625901
>"UGH! Fine!" She stomps her foot then jabs your chest. "But you get paid AFTER it's fixed"
>You shrug and nod, heading back to your garage
>Lemon Zest had turned back on your stereo and was jamming out to your old tunes
"I can have it fixed by Wednesday." You say casually over your shoulder
>"Wednesday! What-!?" Sour yells, her indignation returning
>Your only warning to her approaching again is the sound of her running up your driveway
>Again she grabs you and bring her face close, rage flashing in her eyes
>"I need it fixed by tomorrow! My parents are only gone for the weekend!" She hurriedly explains
"Tomorrow!?" You're almost amused by the absurdity, it makes you laugh. "I can put in an order for a new tie-rod, but it'll only get delivered during business days. Even with express shipping it wouldn't get here until Monday at best."
>"So... you can't help?" She seems legitimately heartbroken by your words
>Seriously, you've never seen her like this
>Then, like a wave, her mood seems to wash over the other girls too
>Sour actually hugs herself as she takes a seat on the curb, staring at the car
>From the outside, it doesn't look any different
>You can practically read her thoughts
>Maybe she can just hide it in her house's garage
>Maybe she can convince her mom to not drive it for a few days
>Maybe she can convince her of some lie when the woman inevitably wants to drive the brand new car she specifically bought to drive around and show off and finds it turns weird
>Maybe, maybe, maybe
>But she can't lie to herself for long
>Her arms go from around her chest to her knees that she hugs to herself and-
>Is she crying?
>The other three go over to her
>Lemon joins last only because she was too busy jamming
>Sunny, Indigo and Lemon sit around her and try and offer consoling words
>Indigo saying she can try and improvise a replacement from salvaged bike parts
>Sunny trying to think if they could distract her mom with something else that's new
>Lemon offering her headphones to try and cheer the girl up
>She's seemingly sunk low enough to accept
>And you know how loud Lemon likes her music
>It does nothing to help, but the sentiment holds
>Even Sugarcoat isn't absent, though she's stood nearby, offering slightly awkward pats and "there, there"s of the monotone variety
"Is it really gonna be that bad?" You ask
>Your words remind the girls of your presence, and they scoff to ignore you
>Half of them do, anyway
>Lemon turns to you though
>"Sour's... kind of on her last warning with her folks. She keeps borrowing and losing her mom's stuff and- well-"
"This was the last straw?" You finish
>The usually explosively expressive girl gives a suppressed nod "Yeah. She was told if anything else went wrong before she graduated they're gonna send her to The BUG Hive"
>Sour lets out a choked, anguished scream of "hive" before breaking down further
>You've heard of that place, been made to stare down the barrel of a threat of being sent there yourself
>>
>>43625911
>It has a reputation to say the least
>The headmaster's more like a drill instructor
>You heard she actually was one before she left the military
>Honourable or dishonourable discharge, you weren't sure
>Either way she ruled Badlands Unilateral Grand école, or BUG, as it was often shortened to, with an ironfist from what the rumour mill told
>Whatever her methods were, rowdy students went in, drones came out
>Hence The BUG Hive
>Honestly? Normally you wouldn't care that much
>But something about this whole situation won't sit right with you if you do nothing
>Especially when you do have a way to fix it
>You just don't like it
>With a heavy sigh, you walk over to Sour and shake her
>Your grip is enough to shake her out of her tearfest as she turns to you
>"What do YOU want?" She sneers, all the sour, none of the sweet
"I..." God, you're gonna regret this. "I can help you..." You trail off
>"Bu- wha..." She murmurs
"I can get your car fixed by tomorrow, it just- won't be easy. You and your friends will probably have to help"
>There's a sudden ringing in your ears
>And now you can't breathe
>She's wrapped her arms around your neck and is literally squeezing the life out of you
>All while she screeches in your ear at a pitch that confirms your harpy-based suspicions of her
>She lets loose a barrage of thank yous before grabbing your collar and pulling you forward
>"Why didn't you start with that!? Did you get your jollies watching me cry on the ground like a schoolgirl?"
"Yes." You say without missing a beat
>"Also, you are a schoolgirl." Sugarcoat adds flatly
>Sour groans as she and the girls turn to you "Alright, fine, what do we need to do?"

【Ruins Incident】

It's no longer necessary to argue about who triggered it.

The device in the ruins records that ancient people once held grand events. You only need to complete the process to end the device's operation, so why not relax and take a vacation?

"Indigo, can you get your bony hips out of my thigh? Pretty sure you're gonna draw blood soon" You groan as you shuffle in your cramped seat
>You are Sour Sweet
>And Anon had better deliver
>You're already going through enough that this is starting to feel like more than its worth
>After discussing his plan, which he kept insufferably vague, cars had to be exchanged
>He and your friends waited at his house while you carefully drove your mom's car back home
>You really hope no one from Crystal Prep or CHS saw you
>It was humiliating how much you were getting honked at
>But you'd learned your lesson, and you weren't gonna make it any worse
>After getting- ugh- public transport to get back, the five of you bunched up in his car
>You, Sunny, Sugarcoat and Indigo Zap were crammed in the three seater back
>Meanwhile Lemon got the front seat
>It was bullshit
>His reasoning was that apparently she "appreciated good music" if you could call that decrepit old people "rock" good or music
"Hey, Anon," you say, leaning forward over the console, "thanks again for doing this, but where the hell are we going!?" You chide, tired of not knowing whether one of his stops is just a red light, or your arrival
>"Well, now that you're all here..." He starts slowly, scratching at his chin, as if it isn't completely barren. "How good are any of you at stealing?"
>That makes you and the other lurch forward, making you all grunt as you have to reshuffle to get elbows and asses out of each others' way again
"What!?"
>"Oh, come on, dude."
>"What the hell, man!"
>"Moderate to average."
>Comes the various responses from you and your friends
>Except Lemon, who is just headbanging again
>Oh no, she doesn't get to avoid this
>You tap her shoulder, pulling her attention
"Hey, your "friend" over there wants to know if you're any good at stealing!" You yell over the music
>"Oh!" Lemon yells back before turning to Anon. "Sunny's great at stealing! She nabbed me a pair of headphones for my birthday!"
>"LEMON!" The four of you chorus a yell at her
>"What?" She asks with a friendly grin. "She is."
>"I wouldn't have believed any of you if you said you weren't anyway." Anon says, flicking on his indicator as he takes another turn
>You hate to admit it, but he's actually a good driver
>Getting a driving instructor is normally expensive, and a pain
>He's both, if his gouging you for cash to keep this quiet was any indicator
>If you're supposed to be stuck with someone insufferable to get your license, he's not a bad pick
>"Uh, the fuck's that supposed to mean?" Indigo retorts to his words as she leans out from the group to stand in a crouch and grip his chair
>It's only somewhat of a relief
>You, Sunny and Sugar get a moment's reprieve with the extra space in the back
>Damn, what are these seats made of? They're comfortable
>Not that you'd ever tell him
>>

>"Please." Anon drags out the word as his eyes flick back only slightly to Indigo. "A bunch of gated-community chicks with too much money between them from daddy's allowance to know what to deal with?"
>It won't matter what these seats are made of in a minute
>Every word from him is making the heat in you and the girls raise as they make you angrier and angrier
>"You're seriously gonna sit there and tell me you've never pocketed anything?" Anon continues. "A watch on display? A cheap necklace or ring from some street seller? Dare I guess the rare and elusive phone swipe?" He challenges
>Right now, the only thing that would give you more pleasure than feeding him his teeth is getting your mom's car fixed
>Oh, the conundrum you've found yourself in
>The mood seems to flick through the rest of you, save Lemon, as per usual
>Though she does finally speak up
>"Oh, come on, Anon, you make it sound so bad. You've stolen." She points out
"HA!" You laugh
>Sunny joins in with her own snickers
>"Not so high and mighty now, huh big guy?" Indigo sneers
>"Never said I didn't." Anon counters, raising one hand up in a mock scout's salute. "Tools are expensive. I'm proud of my larceny, you girls just pretend that you're better."
>Again, you weigh up the satisfaction between his teeth and your mom's car
>The latter wins again
>For now
>As much as you'd wished it, the other girls don't seem to have a comeback to his words either
>Especially cause he's right
>You've all stolen something
>Just a small thrill to make these years a little more exciting
>Some of you more daring than others, Sunny in particular
>"You know, you're really bad at talking to girls." Sugarcoat says, immediately tipping the mood of the car
>The three of you join in with jeers and laughs at her words
>He's trying to play it cool, but you can see it in his reaction
>A glare shot through the rearview mirror that's supposed to be angry but only comes across as sullen
>His hands clenching harder on the wheel
>A tightening of his jaw
>Yep, you know all the signs
>That's how you get under his skin; girls. How pedestrian
>It's pretty simple, most guys are the same, no matter how much they try to play themselves off as too cool and aloof for it
>You're pretty sure he'd fuck any of you if you made the offer
>But if you had to bet his first choice would be Lemon
>Those two almost get along
>Now you mentally list things
>Second would probably be- Indigo
>You hadn't meant it when you told them to get a room earlier, but you can easily imagine him hatefucking her
>Weirdly you can imagine her doing the same, with how often she'll vent to your group about another shop class where she got beaten out by him
>Wait- why would he want them more than you?
>Oh, that pisses you off
>Not like you'd give him a chance if he was the last man on earth, but it's the principle of the thing
>"Ugh- Sour, would you quit squirming so much." Indigo snaps at you
>>
>>43638098
>You, in turn, snap out of your thoughts and shuffle to try and get half-comfortable again in the car
>"Why are you even asking?" Sunny asks
>It seems like each of you are taking turns standing up just to get some breathing room back here as she stands up
>"Would you lot quit that? Unlike Sour, I'm actually a competent driver and don't want you going through the windshield." Anon chides her
>She scoffs and half squats to appease him and keep you all from being pressed into the windows
>"But, since you're asking..." He clicks his tongue as he takes another turn out of the busier parts of the city. "When I said it won't be easy? I got a guy who can get me the part today, but he's gonna want something in exchange."
"So what, we're doing a heist?" You deride
>He hums, and you can see the topic of whoever this guy of his makes him uncomfortable
>"Believe me, we're not Ocean's Elevenings this. We get in, and get out." He says
>"So what are we nabbing?" Sunny asks, seemingly dropping any pretext of feigning innocence. "Jewelery? A phone?" A dangerous glint enters her eyes as she smirks. "We lifting a tv?" She asks, almost excited at the prospect
>"Oh! Maybe we're hawking bikes!" Indigo adds, almost vibrating in her seats. "Not so tough about bikes now, huh?" She asks.
"I just hope he's not some... frat-bro," you almost spit out the descriptor, "who wants us to grab him twenty kegs or something is he?" You ask with a noise of disgust
>Honestly, if you were gonna steal booze, you'd rather get some of the good stuff, like vodka
>"Or we're stealing something quite literally priceless." Sugarcoat adds
>Weird, normally if she adds to a conversation there's some specificity to it
>What are you supposed to do with that?
"What are you on about now, Sugar?" You ask
>"None of you paid attention when we took the trip but the only thing of interest in the direction we're going is the Canterlot Natural History Museum." She clarifies
>Oh
>You look out the window
>As does Indigo, unfortunately, as she presses her face next to yours to look
>Sure enough, the museum is coming up into view now
>Honestly, you don't know why Cinch had insisted on your class taking a trip there
>You're pretty sure it was a punishment
>Twilight was elated when you all went
>It was annoying how she always had something to add to the tour, though it was funny when she'd constantly correct the staff
>Now your school trips are a lot quieter without her there
>...shit, do you miss her?
>That's weird
>You all but leap out of the car when he parks
>Partially to try and distance yourself from the thought, literally and figuratively
>But also to finally stretch properly
>You're pretty sure you've got an Indigo shaped imprint on you now
>The others file out of the impromptu clown car, Anon and Lemon the only ones unaffected by the journey
>You are SO calling shotgun when you're done here

>The six of you walk through the various sections of the history museum
>Anon never says where you're going
>Why not is beyond you
>Maybe he doesn't want to make it obvious?
>If nothing else, such a plan would be working
>The only one among you who's focused in looking around is Anon
>Meanwhile the girls are all regularly distracted by something in the museum
>Sunny gets distracted by a section that goes into historic clothing
>Indigo looks like an idiot craning her neck back to look up at a dinosaur's skeleton
>Even Lemon pulls her attention briefly away from her headphone when your group goes past a section of old technology
>A display that goes from a gramophone to a walkman
>The sight brings a smile to her face as she bops her head along to the music
>You and Sugarcoat share a brief glance only to roll your eyes
>This really is starting to feel like a waste of time
>"We're here" Anon says, suddenly stopping in front of your group
>You grunt as the sudden halt forces you to stop, which makes Lemon bump into you
>Then a small domino effect of the other girls all bumping into each other, and by extension, you
>You glare back at Lemon briefly, who only chuckles at you before you turn around
"And where is 'here' exactly?" You ask as you look around
>A bunch of rocks and gemstones displayed in the cases around
>Some are listed as meteorites, others describing which volcano they were dragged out of
"Wow, Anon!" You say with faux glee. "This is really... pathetic..." You mutter
>"Yeah, the guy's a weirdo, find one that looks interesting, but don't do anything yet." He whispers back to your group, keeping an eye on the people coming and going
>Luckily there aren't many people who'd be interested in the museum as something to do on the weekend
>With those frustratingly vague instructions, your group splits up
>Deciding you want this over as soon as possible, you grab Anon's arm and drag him over to the nearby display case
"What about these ones?" You ask, hands on your hips
>Inside are several fragmentary gems and crystals
>Some are as blue as sapphires, or green like emeralds
>What gem they actually are, you don't care
>He hums in thought as he rubs at his chin, leaning back and forth to take in the gems from multiple angles as his eyes narrow
>Despite how much of a pain this all is, at least he seems to be taking this seriously
>But you swear if he's pranking you this whole time, you're kicking him in the dick
>His hum ends with a slow, drawn out. "Nooo..." Sounding almost disappointed. "He wouldn't want ones broken up so much"
>You let your head fall back with a groan as you trudge past the other displays
>You're... actually surprised by how many there are
>Igneous, sedimentary and metamorphic rock
>Gems of all kinds of cuts and carats
>Then there's the crystals; covalent, ionic, metallic, molecular, quartz, feldspar, and something called grounding crystals
>How the hell are you supposed to go through all these and pick one?
>>
>>43651039
>With a barely contained groan, you choose to simply suck it up and look
>You just had to find some kind of gem that this mystery man of Anon's might like, but it "can't be too broken" or whatever
>With that in mind, you roll your eyes as you actually start to see what he means
>Some of the gems look like they're more solid, or put together, while others looked like they were broken up
>Most likely by whatever hammer or pickaxe got them out
>"Find anything?" Indigo asks from beside you
>You glance at her and give the blue haired sports star a shrug
"There's plenty here." You scoff. "Problem is that I don't actually know what the hell to look for." Your arms cross as you glare at another crystal
>Would this one be any good? You have no idea!
>"Yeah, well... at least he's... helping us? Kinda..." She tries to reason
>You drop your head in your hands
>Because the worst thing is she's right
>At this point, you genuinely can't tell if he's helping you or messing with you
>Sure, things at Crystal Prep look better on the surface
>People are generally being friendlier with each other, and Principal Cadance is doing a lot to make that happen
>But there are just some people who are still uninterested by the whole idea
>They came to Crystal Prep BECAUSE of the academics, and the recommendations, and the way it can fast-track your career
>And Anon seems to be one of them
>Your best guest? Some high-ranking engineer for a top-name car company
>Hell, maybe a decade down the line his claim to fame will be creating some new engine for a high-end sports car
>But that seems to be his only interest; cars
>Sure, you and the girls barely hung out while Cinch was around, but you bumped into each other more often than not
>With the pressure on your performance at school being lessened, even you have to admit, it's been nice
>Getting to hang out without needing to constantly check the time to keep up with your study schedule, or having to worry about Indigo suddenly rushing off for some other sports club meeting
>Even this, for as crazy as the day has been, is nice
>You'd never in a million years think your group would be hanging out at a museum on a weekend, but here you are
>Thanks, in no small part, to Anon
>But he's the only one who isn't actually enjoying himself
>He's treating it more like a job, even when it really isn't
>He offered to help you, when he didn't need to
>But he's just... there
>Is he really that deep in his own shell?
>"Find anything?" The voice of the man in question jolts you
"Gah-! Don't sneak up on me!" You snip at him before putting a hand on your hip. "And I dunno, you tell me."
>With a wave, you gesture him to the display case, and that analytical look overtakes him again
>As if he were mentally calculating something
>"No..." He says under his breath, making you grit your teeth. "I think we can probably exclude gemstones from what we're looking for."
>>
>>43651043
>"What are you looking for?" Another voice says from behind you, startling you again
>You whip around, and you totally don't yelp and stumble into Anon from the shock
>A girl with grey skin and flat purple hair looks between you and Anon
>She's wearing a plain blue dress with a black belt
>The monotone of her voice could give Sugarcoat a run for her money
>At least that girl could put some sass into her voice
>"We're doing a research project." Anon says, immediately covering your bases. "The effect certain environments can have on the value of geological formations."
>The rapid, easy pace he puts out the word briefly make you wonder if you actually did have a research project for that you missed
>"The wonderful world of geology can be found all around us." The girl answers in a tone plainer than dry cardboard. "I'd be happy to assist you any way I can."
>Yeah, happy, that's definitely the feeling you get from her
"I'm sorry, we didn't get your name. Who are you?" You try to hide the caustic tone of your question after your sweeter start
>She briefly looks at you for a while, slowly blinking before answering. "I'm Maud."
"...right." It takes effort to stop the muscles in your face to sneer "We're... just looking for something..."
>How do you make it not sound like you're about to steal?
>Be casual
"Valuable, I guess?"
>Nailed it
>An answer's that's both vague and specific, but with an uncertain tone
>"Value is in the eye of the beholder." The girl says flatly. "We have many displays that technically have a monetary value, but those would be less impressive to those with a keen eye and a vested interest in geological works would be impressed by other sections."
"Well... it'd probably be best if we see... both kinds of valuable?" You try awkwardly
>Hopefully your cluelessness will help to keep her from figuring you out
>Wait
>Was that Anon's plan?
>If it was, you are never telling him it's any good
>He'd never let you live it down
>Not that you really ever see him in school
>"Didn't your boyfriend say you could exclude gemstones?" She asks
>That grinds your brain to a stop
>What did she just say?
"Boyfriend!?" You all but yell at her. "What could possibly make you think that someone like me would date someone like him?"
>"Because after I startled you, you grabbed his arm and have yet to let it go." She states simply
>You look down and to the side
>As she said, you'd subconsciously grabbed his arm, and you're still holding it
>You let out a noise of disgust as you recoil from him
"Why didn't you say anything!?" You shout, pointing a finger in his smug face
>"Cause it was funny." He chuckles
>Oh, he is so dead when this is over
>"But, yeah, I thought we should exclude gemstones." He explains to Maud. "I figure most of the class will have the idea of going with gemstones for the value aspect. Are there any you'd recommend?"
>>
>>43651047
>You want to say the girl's eyes widen, but with how flat her eyelids lay normally, she now just has the look a normal person would have
>Maybe that's her equivalent of excited?
>"We have many displays which house crystal formations that have an unorthodox value to them, follow me." She moves at a casual pace through the display
>As she begins to drone on and on, you do your best to catch the eye of the others
>With subtle nods, you indicate them to come over and wait
>For what, again, you still don't know!
>Hopefully Anon's head isn't up his ass and he knows to signal them for when he sees something that matches what they need
<>
>God, this is so unbelievably dull
>You miss your car
>But you put yourself in this position Anon, and daddy didn't raise no quitter
>Now that you're looking at the crystal displays, you're feeling a bit more confident
>That crazy freak will definitely prefer these over the gemstones you'd been looking at
>And Sour even had the wherewithal to quietly get her friends over
>That definitely makes things easier
>Now you just need to get your own message across
>But first you need to distract this creepy employee
"Hey, uh, Maud?" You call out, interrupting her tour-guide tangent to turn to you as you indicate to the display nearest you. "Is it just me, or did someone put quartz in here when the sign says feldspar?"
>"That would be very unfortunate, we're dedicated to the accuracy of our educational institution" She replies in something duller than monotone
>With her attention diverted, you wave to one of the girls, and get Sunny's attention
>Leaning to the display, you point several times to the small lock on it, the same kind you've seen on the other displays and raise your eyebrows questioningly
>She narrows her eyes at you and tilts her head briefly before realization clicks and she begins inspecting the display she's nearest too for its own lock
>If she can figure out how to open one, then maybe she can open the others
>Hopefully she doesn't botch this
>You don't want to go to jail
>Of course, you'll all get bailed out before the weekend's over
>But you still have more stuff you wanted to do to treat your car
>Then again, you think
>Sour's parents are out of town
>If they get called back to bail her out AND find out she bent a part of her mom's car then she'll really be in trouble
>Oh well, you're just here to identify the thing you need
>Getting it is up to whoever of them knows how to steal
>"What a relief." Maud says as she turns back to you, unphased. "What you saw there was moonstone, though it could be mistaken for Clear Quartz to the untrained eye. Thanks to its sodium potassium aluminum silicate formation, it has a light blue colour which can appear clear in certain lighting."
"Right..." You're not sure how else to respond as she continues to lead you through the displays
>You notice the other girls subtly circling like sharks
>Definitely a good thing that you didn't tell them specifics
>>
>>43651049
>They suck at not drawing attention to themselves
>Lemon strolls past, though you're not sure if she does it intentionally as she head bangs to whatever's in her headphones
>Her brief pass does interrupt Maud and pull her focus
>Which allows the others to blend in nearby
>Indigo and Sugar pretend to look in the other displays while constantly shooting glances up at you and Sour
>Then there's Sunny, who you're glad is still checking the other locks
>If the small smile on her face is anything to go by, she seems to have a plan in place
>"And here we have a personal favourite of mine" Maud announces
>At least, you think it's an announcement, there's no difference in any way she's spoken so far
>The reveal does immediately pull your attention though
>Either it's new, or you've never paid attention since you were last here
>"This particular display shows the curious ways that nature can create a structure that even our modern technologies would struggle to artificially replicate." She drones on. "Dug out from the sight of a volcanic eruption dating back centuries, this hunk of volcanic glass is a variety of obsidian known as 'Fire Obsidian' . Isn't it stunning? I know it leaves me breathless each time I see it." She pauses with a small blink. "Which is everyday. Because I work here."
>The disconcerting strangeness of the girl aside, that's definitely what you need
>Now how to distract her long enough to get it out of here?
>More specifically, how do you get it out of here quick enough?
>You don't like the idea of waiting for the girls to get it and potentially botch it up
>But you also probably need your car to be ready to go at the drop of a hat
>You briefly weigh up the task at hand against wanting to let anyone but you drive your baby
>But eventually, you relent
>Sour owes you big time for this
>Pulling your keys out slowly, you bring them around your back and subtly push them into her hand
>She flinches briefly, then grasps as she feels the cold metal and realizes what it is
>You speak with your eyes as best you can, and she briefly shows hesitance and surprise before accepting
>She then glares at you with a piercing "don't fuck this up" look
>Luckily you manage to mostly go unnoticed by Maud as Sour leaves
>Extra luckily the other girls don't take it as a sign to leave, and stay lingering around
>"I thought she said you weren't together." Maud says slowly
"Trust me. We're not." You correct the girl
>You can barely handle the near bi-polar girl as is
>"And yet, you held hands, curious." She says as she turns back to the display. "Moving on-"
>Seeing your opportunity, you look over to Sunny and gesture her over with a tilt of your head
>As she gets closer you make eye contact with the fire obsidian, and she gives you a cocky grin as she moves towards the display
>Now you just need to keep Maud distracted, or better yet, get her away from this section entirely
>With surprising casualness, she leans against the display
>>
>>43651056
>"Hey, uh-" She says in a low droll, she pulls Maud's attention. "I think someone's been messing with the displays over there. They're loose or something." She inspects her nails as she talks, as if she has a million better things to do
>"Oh dear." Maud says, strolling past you two
"Alright, how long wi-" You start before Sunny shushes you
>"Dude, shut up and go over to Lemon." She says sternly
>You almost argue with her, but something in her eyes tells you enough
>As you get to Lemon, she wraps an arm around your neck before you can get a word out
>"This rock's not even in its display." You hear the slight tilt in monotone of Sugarcoat over your shoulder
>"That's Boulder, my pet rock." Maud informs
>"That's really sad."
>As the duel of the monotone happens out of your sight, you try to look over to Sunny, but can't even see her anymore
>"Whoops- heads up!" Indigo yells
>As you look over, you're surprised as the girl sprints away from a collapsing dinosaur skeleton
>It only now dawns on you that these girls are insane
>Seriously where the hell is Sunny!?
>"That's our cue dude!" Lemon says, laughing into your ear before pulling you by your hand
>The two of you wind through section after section of the museum
>As you go, Indigo, Sugarcoat and Sunny slowly join the two of you, appearing from separate parts of the museum
>"Okay, speaking as a track star, girl is scary fast." Indigo sighs as she turns as she walks to check behind you
"What the hell were you all even doing?" You ask
>"Well-"
>"Excuse me."
>The five of you yelp to varying degrees as, true to Indigo's word, Maud appears with frightening speed in front of all of you
>Shit, is she onto you?
>Clearly the others are worrying the same thing as you glance at them
>Indigo looks ready to attempt to knock the girl out to get away
>Before she can, Maud holds up a half empty pack of gum
>"Does this belong to any of you?" She asks glancing between you
>"Alright! My gum!" Lemon cheers as she takes the pack. "Thanks, lady." She grins
>"You're very welcome, come back soon." She says as she walks away
>The five of you remain slightly stiff in place as you watch her round the corner
>"She's weird." Sugarcoat states
>"You're telling me, let's get out of here." Indigo says
>"Gladly." Sunny agrees with a flick of her hair
>Your group spills out of the exit, turning your attention as a familiar car horn sounds out
>As everyone gets back into their previous seating, aside from a brief scuffle over shotgun finds Indigo there this time, you make your way to the driver's seat
>Popping the door, you stare at Sour Sweet, buckled up and looking back at you
>"What? Get in." She says, nodding to the back seat
>Like hell
"Let the girl who pretzel-knotted a tie-rod drive MY car? Yeah, no, backseat." You say, leaving no room for argument
>You're not sure if she's offended or impressed by your tone
>"Or maybe I drive off-"
>>
>>43651057
"With a stolen car? To where? To who to get the tie-rod replacement and how to replace it?" You rapid fire off holes in her logic like fanning a hammer
>Her mouth clicks shut. "Can I at least get shotgun?"
>"I'M shotgun, Sour." Indigo defends her hard won place
>Sour Sweet lets out a strangled groan as she undoes her seatbelt and barges past and around you to seat herself back in the backseat
>With the engine already purring, you feel the car hum in a deeper tone as you take the wheel, others would call you mad, but you like to think she knows when you're driving her, and prefers it
>Pulling out of the museum's car park, you begin the long drive to your destination
>"So, you got it, right?" Sour asks, a mix of hope and irritation in her voice
"I dunno." You shrug, your head still spinning from the mess the group called. "Sunny?" You ask glancing in the mirror
>"I gave it to Indigo to run off with it after she had that skeleton collapse."
>"Then I gave it to Sugarcoat when we passed each other in the Revolutionary War section."
>"I gave it to Lemon when we met near the entrance."
>There's a small pause before she nudges Lemon and looks at her quizzically
>"Oh, that rock thing? I put it in Anon's pocket when we got blocked by that Maud girl." She clarifies
>"You did?" Sunny asks her, surprised
"You did?" You echo the question
>Why didn't you feel anything
>"She had better!" Sour growls
>Patting yourself down, for most of your pockets, you don't feel anything, until-
"Where's my phone?" You ask, checking to see if it slipped down the side of the seat somewhere
>"Here, dude!" Lemon says, holding it to you. "Had to make space."
>Double checking that pocket, sure enough, there's a bump of some kind there
>Fishing it out, you're met with a fist-sized rock
>Definitely the fire obsidian
>You hold it up in mock victory and let out a sigh of relief
>Sour's sigh is much more intense as she basically collapses back into the seat
>"You girls are the best." She says, and you're surprised by how long the positivity holds. "What took so long?"
>There it is
>"Anon slowed us down." Sugarcoat says simply
"How!?" You complain as you glance back at her
>"You just don't know how we handle things, that’s all." Sunny teases as she checks herself in a hand mirror
>Indigo simply laughs at your expense
>Seeing you're not going to win any argument here, you roll your eyes and pocket your phone and the obsidian again
>"Alright, we've got it, now, where are we going? And don't be so vague this time!" Sour scowls at you
>With a sigh, you let yourself sink into your seat and rub your eyes
>It's not that you don't have experience dealing with this guy
>But every time was unpleasant
>And you know he's gonna make it worse specifically because you've brought other people
"What do you guys know about Crystal Prep alumni history?" You ask
>"What does that have to do with anything?" Sour Sweet asks
>>
>>43651059
>"Because clearly we're going to be dealing with one, Sour." Sugar corrects her
"Yeah..." You sigh out
>"And this guy or girl likes... rocks?" Indigo asks, confused
"It'd be more accurate to say he's obsessed with them." You tell her.
>"Well don't leave us in suspense dude, what's his name?" Lemon asks, surprisingly paying attention
>You chew the name in your mouth for a moment or two before letting it slip past your lips
"Sombra..."
>>
>>43651061
>Sombra
Uh-oh.

i love what you're doing with the split perspectives here, anon. like how sour sweet is way more legit in her own pov than anon's, how he thinks the others are crazy and she just thinks they're annoying, that sort of thing. and bits like maud and sugarcoat monotoning at each other go on for just the right length... i would have milked that and fucked up the pacing. i kneel

Agree, but at the same time drawing edits are not the same, and most artists don’t make them
In these cases, handmade edits or AI edits are the way to go, but whatever is better than nothing I guess

>Sombra was perhaps the worst kept secret of Crystal Prep
>The guy basically ruled the school during the years Shining Armor and Cadance were students
>He was to your school, what Sunset Shimmer used to be to Canterlot High
>But he was a lot more efficient
>And a lot more brutal according to some of the stories you'd heard
>Of course, none of this ever bothered Principal Cinch
>Sure, he was known as "The Crippling Quarterback"
>Better known for winning the school games by injuring so many of the other teams' players so badly that they had to forfeit
>But a win was a win for Cinch
>And a word in the right here and some money greasing the right hands and those injuries were the players' own faults
>Allegedly it wasn't uncommon to see him and Shining tackle each other on the field, despite being on the same team
>Rumor in the school says one of Sombra's teeth is still on the football pitch
>That if you put it on a necklace and wear it, you'll be as good as he was
>And man, was he good
>Excellence in the academics as well as the physical
>Apparently he was the clear candidate for Valedictorian by a country mile
>Difficult to achieve under usual circumstances
>It takes a once in a lifetime talent to achieve that in a place like Crystal Prep under the stern, rigid expectations of someone like Cinch
>You think Twilight was due to be your year's Valedictorian
>Who was gonna fill those shoes now that she was gone?
>No one in this car, that was for sure
>Either way, story goes, Cadance and Shining worked together and unearthed something about Sombra that made even Cinch go pale
>Everything that she'd swept under the rug for him came billowing out with whatever scandalous reveal they had
>He got expelled
>Briefly made a name for himself in the military
>Some say he became a mercenary
>Some say he destabilized some backwater country's dictatorship
>Some say he took over some backwater country's dictatorship
>All you know for sure is what you learned from the man himself
>Yes, years ago, you'd made the unfortunate mistake of cursing your soul to know the man personally
>To the point he's called you a "close confidant" before
>He owns the local scrap yard
>And you use the word "local" loosely
>It's outside the outskirts of town
>Despite the far out trip, and his reputation, the man still had his ruthless efficiency
>Other than mentioning a general intimidating presence from the man, the reviews about him were glowing
>You weren't sure what his entire deal was
>He owned the scrap yard, sure
>But did he live there, or somewhere else?
>Also, you're pretty sure its just a front for something
>What, again, you're not sure, you never met the man to get nitty-gritty details
>He just happened to be a deft hand at getting you... otherwise unavailable... upgrades for your cars
>After you'd been there a handful of times when you were younger and dumber, he gave you a dressing down that still sometimes leaves you in a cold sweat
>>
>>43683683
>All because of the state your car was in
>He was more pissed that you let it get so bad than your dad
>Strangely his passion is what got you to reassess and reinvest yourself in the car
>It was unsettling how he could easily slip his words into your brain if he wanted to
>A dark kind of charisma
>When you realized that, it wasn't so hard to put together why Cinch liked him so much
>You're pretty sure he implied to you once that they'd fucked a few times
>Maybe that's what got him caught out?
>Would Cadance and Shining stoop that low though?
>Blackmail Cinch to get rid of him?
>You'd be impressed if they did
>Sombra only laughed when you brought it up
>Shining stonewalled you when you brought it up
>And it was one of the few things that could set Cadance's mood to "pissed off" in two seconds flat
>He "took you under his wing" for a while
>Taught you all he knew about cars
>It was easy to see how he became Valedictorian
>You're pretty sure he also told you some classified government level military secrets about some vehicles once or twice
>After you'd learned what you wanted, he'd offered more
>He "saw potential in you", as he put it
>You're only slightly ashamed to say you were, at the time, more than willing to accept the offer
>Then something clicked
>That night, with his offer in mind, a nervous man went into the scrap yard as you left, looking like he'd seen the devil himself
>You thought nothing of it
>The next day, you thought nothing of it
>Until you went past his yard's car baling press
>And noticed a viscous red liquid inconspicuously dripping from it
>Then you'd started to politely turn his offer down
>And his eyes darted to the liquid then back to you quick and sharp as a whip
>He was quiet, and so were you
>"It's just... headlight fluid, right?" He'd asked you
>Bullshit
>Complete, made-up, nonsensical bullshit
>The thing you told someone they needed to fuck with them, or scam them of their money if they were actually that stupid
>One of the first lessons he'd taught you
>But you'd just nodded and agreed
>Headlight fluid
>Of course it was
>He pat your shoulder
>A friendly grip that gave your clavicle a hairline fracture
>That night the news mentioned the missing man
>And you never went back to that scrap yard
>Until now
>Helping a group of girls you barely knew
>Friends who wouldn't have given you a second look before today if they weren't desperate
>Your grip was slowly becoming knuckle-white on the steering wheel with each turn you made
>The Fire Obsidian felt heavy in your lap
>Too heavy
>But at least it would work to get his attention, and moderate cooperation
>Of that, you were certain
>It was every other variable about today that you were flying in blind on
>"Yo, Anon! You good, dude?" Indigo's voice brings your mind screeching out of the past and to the present
"Peachy." You pop the word sarcastically at her, and she rolls her eyes
>>
>>43683685
>"How do you even know this... Sombra guy will even care about this crystal?" She asks, snatching it out of your lap
"Magic." You mutter back.
>"What?" One eye narrowed, the other raised and a single eyebrow quirk at you like you'd grown a second head
"He thinks crystals have magic." You explain
>One of the eccentricities you'd become all too familiar about the man
>He had a passion for everything
>Everything
>Domestic
>International
>Academic
>Physical
>Mundane
>Esoteric
>He was convinced that magic was bleeding into your world
>In one form or another it was crossing some kind of boundary and then crystallizing or galvanizing over rocks
>He just had to find the right one
>Years ago, when you knew the man, you rightfully thought he was insane, but kept it to yourself
>Now, after the stories of Sunset Shimmer, those random girls from Canterlot High's Battle of the Bands
>Then there was your own experience seeing Twilight become... whatever the hell that thing was at the Friendship Games
>Word through the grapevine reached your uninterested ears about what happened in Camp Everfree
>Then word kept spreading through the city
>"You mean like-?" Sour Sweet asked
"Yes." You answer, without letting her finish
>Seven girls doing strange things
>All from Canterlot High
>All wearing a matching geode necklace
>You hope that he's somehow been too far out of the city to know
>You know that he's probably already learned their names and faces
>But that's a problem for another time
>Those girls have literal, actual magic
>They can handle him
>You're a car full of regular teenagers, with the most athletic one being Indigo
>If he wanted to he could snap the lot of you over his knee
>But hopefully he won't even see these five
>As you come up near the scrap yard's gate, your car slows to a stop, letting out a small whine as it does
>It's like she doesn't want you to go in there
>You affectionately rub the wheel and give her a gentle shush
"I'll be right back. You just stay here."
>"Excuse me!?"
>You'd been talking to the car, but Sour Sweet took offense to your words
>"We didn't come all this way just for you to ditch us here!" She chides
>You roll your eyes
"Look, you've all heard stories about Sombra, right?"
>"Pfft- no-"
>"Maybe?"
>“Which ones? Some of them are pretty scandalous~”
>"Yes. Several. He sounds like a psychopath. You're probably going to die."
>Come the varying answers
>You let your head hit the steering wheel before unbuckling
"Thanks for the vote of confidence, Sugar." You say over your shoulder
>You pop open the door and shut it behind you just as quick
>Sugar reaches for the door handle, still objecting to being left behind
>But you're the fastest gunslinger here, and this scrapyard ain't big enough for three of you, so you hit the lock button on your key fob
>She briefly struggles with the door before banging on the window
>You shoot her a wink courtesy of a fingergun before blowing the imagined smoke from it
>>
>>43683689
>"I don't want you to die by the way." Sugar calls from the rolled down window. "It would make all of this a waste of time and be a bummer too."
>She really did live up to her name
>"ANON! I SWEAR TO GOD I WILL CLIMB OUT THIS WINDOW!" Sour Sweet yells at you with all her sour vitriol and none of her sweet
>You simply shoot them a confident smirk as you walk backwards towards the gate
>It'll be better this way
>That's what you tell yourself
>You chuck the fire obsidian up, putting a spin on it as you do, then catch it
>The weight grounds you
>You take a breath and step across the threshold
>You're in Sombra's domain now
>Better to get this over with quick
>You can hear the telltale signs of this place that you came to know off by heart before
>The same whirling machinery
>The same caustic hiss of blowtorches either cutting metal in half or soldering it together
>The same kind of music you listen to blaring from some unseen speaker
>You crack your neck to try and ease out some of the tension as you walk with your hands at your sides
>Back straight, head high, eyes level and scanning
>Walk like you own the place
>The posturing he taught you
>You might hate the idea of acting in a way he taught you too, but you also know that if you go in with your head down and hands in your pocket then he'll lose all respect for you in a second
>You might have walked away, but you have to play this game by his rules if you want what you need
>"As I live and breathe..." A deep baritone cuts across the sound of machinery and metal
>You turn to look eye-to-eye with the man in charge
>Sombra
>Just as you remembered him
>Smoke gray skin, jet black hair and haunting eyes
>A plain white tee, smudged with engine oil, camo pants and military boots
>Generally built like a fridge
"Sombra." You say the name curtly
>No apology for ditching him all that time ago, no surprise at the fact he hasn't aged a day
>Business as usual
>"Hello, Anon. Long time no see." He says the words with a shark's grin
"Sentimental, Sombra? Cut the plesantries." You snip back
>He regards you for a moment, his eyes narrow and brows furrow
>Then his grin returns, just as sharp as you remember
>"Heard Cadance took over the old school, was worried she'd turned you into another Shining Armor." His chuckle was deep, his words implying things you didn't want to try inferring
"One of him's enough, don't you think?" The question's flat, but he sneers at it
>"One too many if you ask me." He almost growls with the words.
>Was he still sore about it all these years later?
>He nods his head away and his boots leave imprints in the sand as you walk behind him to his shop
>His station is set up in a brutal, but organized way
>Hooks and chains hang down from the ceiling, power tools lay within arms reach, ready to be used at a moment's notice
>He sits with all the airs of a man who rules a small piece of land he's cut out for himself
>Then he glances at you like you'd only just arrived
>>
>>43683690
>"The fuck you want, Anon?"
>You don't say anything
>Your hand whips into your pocket and hurls the crystal at him
>It's not exactly a speed ball, but your throw's still quick, and you're a little over a foot away from him
>Still his hand comes up with a speed that's as frightening as the casual ease with which he catches it
>"My~ My~ What are you?" He purrs to the black and multi-hued volcanic glass
>Under a small rag covering is scientific equipment you'd more likely find in a lab
>A microscope and various other measuring devices gather around as he begins to inspect the fire obsidian
>He mutters things to himself so softly you can't quite make out
>After a few minutes of silence haunted by unintelligible murmurs he suddenly rises to his feet and smashes the fire obsidian with a fist
>The show of force makes you jolt and puts you on guard immediately
>Was it a fake?
>Was he pissed?
>Should you bolt back to your car?
>Then your worries are assuaged by the chuckles that thrum out through his chest
>You focus back on him, and for just a moment, your eyes play tricks on you as his shadow seems... off, somehow
>But there's nothing there
>Then he runs a hand through his hair with a sigh
>"You brought a good one. Could be better," he shrugs as he walks up to you, "I've heard some very interesting stories." He starts to circle you as he speaks. "About seven particular girls. Sound familiar?"
"The whole town's heard the same rumours." You point out
>"I'd definitely be interested in the crystals they have..." He growls into the air, as if willing them there
"You could always actually go out into town, you hermit." You roll your eyes at him
>Despite your posturing, you're really hoping your mask doesn't slip
>You'd really rather stay on his good side
>It's a bit harder to do now, of course
>Before you told him basically anything he wanted to know about the comings and goings of the town and your school
>You had no reason not to
>Now you do have a reason to tiptoe around the subject of those girls from Canterlot High
>To simply keep them away from him
>And he knows it
>He's prowling, practically stalking you even now, looking for any reason to beat you into telling him what he wants
>But he still has to keep up appearences
>So he simply huffs through his nose as he shoots an easy glare, side-eyeing you
>"So... what do I owe for the pleasure?" He grumbles out
"Got a Lexus with a bent tie-rod, front end, left side." You say simply
>"Engine block?" He asks
"2UR-GSE." You list off easily
>"Inner or outer end?" His head tilts
"Whole things fubar." You shrug
>He lets out a low whistle and shakes his head
>"Thought I taught you better, Anon." He tuts at you like a disappointed father
"It's not for me, I'm being paid by some-"
>"ANON!"
"-dumb fucking bitch..." You finish off your sentence quietly with a shake of your head and your head in a hand
>You turn, and sure enough, the girls are all walking up to you and Sombra
>>
>>43683694
>Sunny Flare and Sugarcoat at least have the awareness to eye him warily
>Indigo's sizing him up, like an idiot
>Lemon and Sour are ignoring it, the former because she's focused on her music, the latter because she's glaring at you
>"How long is this gonna take!?" She asks you with her hands on your hips
"Sour, I'm handling it, go back to the car!" There's a lot more force in your voice than you're used to
>Even Sour shrinks back a bit, the previous fury shifting to uncertainty
>Sombra claps you on the back with a laugh
>"Good to see you've still got it in you, Anon. But don't be rude. Who are your... little friends~" He asks with an unabashed leer at them
>"Ewww, creep-" Sour Sweet mutters as she shift to be closer to the girls
>Turning on your feet, you put yourself back between Sombra and the girls
>There distraction has thrown a whole wrench into the works, but you have to at least try to salvage it
"Sombra. The tie rod." You remind him
>He ignores you for several seconds to drink in the sight of your...
>Friends?
>Peers
>They're your peers
>After a few moments, he cups his chin
>As if he doesn't know immediately whether he has what you need or not
>"That model uses cast steel for its tie rods, and you know what?" His voice takes on a sickening cooperative tone. "I think I have just what you need. Follow me."
>He flicks away with a finger
>You briefly round on the girls
>Sour briefly opens her mouth but you put up a finger to shut her up before she can get a word out
You hiss out in a whisper "No-! You girls need to get back to the car, now-"
>"Bring those girls too, Anon, any friend of yours is a friend of mine." He says in a mock friendly tone. "And you know how I feel about uninvited guests being unattended around my stuff."
>There was his real tone
>Dangerous
>Unambiguously questioning
>It was bad enough when you had to worry about just your own neck
>Now you need to worry about all of theirs too
>The five of them at least look uncertain about the situation they've put themselves in
>Well, nothing for it
>With a nod of your own head, you follow after Sombra, and they follow after you
>Sour sticks closest to you, clearly the most invested
>Sunny whips her head back and forth, trying to scoff at the disarray of mangled cars while Indigo tries to act as a deterrent to...
>Well, there really isn't anything to deter
>Nothing overt, anyway
>That's what's always bothered you about this place
>You can always hear so much work being done
>But Sombra's the only guy you've ever seen here
>It's off-putting to say the least
>Even Sugarcoat's usually flat expression is breaking into unease
>Lemon's frazzled nerves are made clear in how her eyes are open, her hands pressing her headphones closer, for comfort, and she's muttering lyrics under her breath as her gaze darts around
>Shit... when'd you start caring about these stuck up girls to the point you didn't like seeing them so scared?
>You shake your head
>Get in, get out
>>
>>43683696
>Sombra stops in what could be called a small clearing
>It's an empty space, ringed by the cadavers of crushed cars stacks dozens high
>In the middle is the industrial size baling press
>Which is directly where he points
>"Wouldn't you know it, the last car I crushed popped its tie rod out, good as new in there. Ain't that convenient?" His malicious grin almost glints the same way the car husks do
>"That IS convenient!" Sour begins
>You clamp a hand over her mouth before she can put her foot in her mouth
>The look you shoot her is thankfully enough to convey the message
>Don't push your luck
>With a sigh, you step toward him, shaking off the feeling of Sour briefly clinging to your wrist, eyes on the baling press
"Just in there?" You ask, with barely suppressed dread
>His eyes almost seem to shine as they darken with an edge to them
>"You climb in. You grab it. You climb out." He slowly leans towards you. "Easy. Right?"
>It was easy
>Technically speaking
>But this was how he operated
>Psychological warfare
>He liked to put people in seemingly treacherous situations just to fuck with them
>There was some part of him that enjoyed controlling what people thought, in one way or another
>This was just another case of that
>You figuratively, and literally, shake off your nerves
"Fuck it. Whatever." You hiss to him and make your way towards the press
>It gets more intimidating the closer you got, looms larger with every step
>Until you're right in front of it and it dwarfs you
>Fuck
>Was it really worth stepping into something that could press you to death for a girl you barely know?
>The Hive can't be that bad, right?
>No, you agreed
>Plus you're getting paid
>Sombra wouldn't just kill you
>Not with the girls as witnesses
>Like he... did with that old mad...
>Where you said nothing...
>Right?
>God damn it, stop being such a fucking coward and-
>"Hey!" Indigo's voice snaps you out of your thoughts for the second time today as you turn to her. "What's the hold up, need a lift?"
>It's a simple question, but her eyes tell you enough to know more
>She's scared too
>But weirdly isn't gonna let you go in alone
>"Will be easier to climb in and out with the two of us, right?" She asks with an uncertain grin
>You wordlessly nod and let out a breath you didn't realize you were holding
>"Ladies first~"
>And of course she gets off one last cutting remark as she cups her hands low and smirks at you
>Stepping onto the hand, she hoists you up as you half jump, half climb the side to grab the top and heave yourself over the edge
>Turning on the wall, you hold a hand down
>She takes a run at the press and goes up its side, grabbing your hand, acting as a counter-weight to the gravity on the other side
>Pressing your feet to the inside, you climb down, pulling her up as you do
>She clambers down with all the ease and physical finesse you lacked
>"Alright, what are we looking for, Anon?" She asks, eyes darting rapidly around, suspicious
>>
>>43683701
>You're just as suspicious
>This feels too easy
>You look around just as quick
>Thankfully, Sombra keeps his machines completely clear in between uses
>So when something doesn't belong
>You pick it out immediately
>The tie-rod
>Almost leaping to grab it, you snatch it up and pant slightly
>That's when everything goes wrong
>A roaring groan comes from the press
>The sound of it turning on
>"THAT MOTHERFUCKER!" Indigo yells
>You can briefly hear the indistinct yell of the other girls
>No time for that
>You're not in the mood to get pancaked
"Indigo! Move!" You yell, briefly breaking the panic that crossed her face as you rush to her, hands cupped low. "Ladies first."
>She seems to relax at your joke and leaps off your hand to the press' wall
>Each second it takes her to climb feels like they stretch as you see the walls literally close in
>She reaches down, panic and worry in her eyes that you ignore as you desperately try, and initially fail to climb the wall
>You're one hand short
>That motherfucker really did think this through
>You quash your fear and refuse to let that bastard have his fun as you charge and climb the wall like a maniac
>This time, you make it to Indigo's hand and climb over
>Both of you don't take the time to get down safely, throwing yourselves from the wall to the dirt below
>It's a hard landing
>You're both coughing to clear the fact you winded yourselves upon landing
>"Nailed it-" Indigo wheezes out
>"Indigo!"
>"Anon!"
>Sunny and Lemon come to both of you and help you to your feet, while Sugarcoat comes over, worry etched onto her feature to
>You actually manage a growl as you slam one end of the tie rod into your open palm
"Where is that bastard! I swear I'll-"
>"You'll what, Anon?" Sombra's familiar tone hits you
>You and Indigo snap your attention to him while the other three noticeably shift behind the both of you
"I was gonna say cave your skull in with this." You whack the tie-rod in your palm again
>It stung
>But you grit your teeth and bare it
>"That'd be a good start, after you just tried to kill us!" Indigo snaps out, emboldened by your own words
>Sombra threw his head back with a laugh
>"You come here, looking to fix your friend's car- which isn't even hers cause she doesn't have a license-" He begins
>Indigo loses just an iota of nerve hearing that
>She briefly leans back to you
>"Dude, how does he know that?"
>"Then!" Sombra continues. "You pay me for that tie-rod, chop-shopped by the way, with that stolen fire obsidian?" He questions
>You feel your own fire start to dull as he breaks down everything you've done
>Guy obsessed with crystals? He must have had his eye on that fire obsidian before you even heard of it
>"Maybe a court would believe it was attempted murder, but... from a group of thieves?" Sombra asks. "You got what you wanted, I got what I wanted." Another laugh from him. "Let's let bygones be bygones. What do you say, Anon?"
"Fuck you, Sombra!" You spit out
>>
>>43683704
>"That's the spirit!" He glibly retorts
>Your grip tightens on the tie-rod
>You'd really like nothing more than to slam it into his skull, and keep slamming it there
>But he's got you right where he probably wanted you from the moment he saw you
>A lose-lose situation, whether you walk away with the tie-rod or not
>A nudge from beside you, and you look to see Indigo giving you a confident smile and nod, surprising, given the circumstance
>Even though she probably realizes you'd both get destroyed if you tried to fight the man, she still seems ready to try if you are
>But it's not worth it
>You relax and sigh as your shoulders sag
>She seems to relax too, and looks briefly relieved that you didn't decide to be stupid
>"Well, I'm glad we all ca-" Sombra's words are cut off by the sound of-
>Is that your fucking car!?
>Where's Sour!?
>The answer to both your questions come roaring round the corner
"Who the fuck let her drive!?" You shout
>Your car seemingly comes to your rescue as it roars forward
>Sombra tries to dive but a clean turn has her back spin around to meet him
>The man meets the metal and he's sent hurtling through the air until he crashes against the wall of the baling press
>The door opens as Sour shouts at you all
>"I'm so glad you're all okay! NOW GET IN YOU IDIOTS!"
>Same old Sour
>You don't question, or even complain as you charge to the backseat door
>Throwing it open you usher in Indigo, Lemon, Sugarcoat and Sunny before diving in yourself
"FLOOR IT!" You yell at your impromptu driver
>Not needing another word, Sour slams her foot down on the pedal and you're car is tearing back out through the scrap yard
>You'd like to think that Sombra couldn't get up from getting hit by a car
>But you're not gonna put it past him at this point
>"Please! Tell me you got it!" Sour all but screams
>You weakly hold up the tie-rod and she gives a tired thanks before letting her head hit the wheel
>Lunging forward, you correct her
"Watch the road!" You chastise her
>"Sorry! Sorry!" She says for the first time ever
"Get out of that seat, I'm taking over!"
>"No, come on, I can do it!"
"You bent your car's tie-rod and used mine to run someone over, I am NOT letting you drive!"
>"You are such an ass!"
>"Oh my GOD!" Indigo yells as she untangles herself from the mass of bodies in the back seats. "Would YOU TWO please get a room and fuck in it after we're done!?"
>You and Sour shoot glare as you clamber into the shotgun seat
>The girls behind grumble at all being packed together again while you watch at all the little way Sour doesn't know how to drive
>Some would say that you begin needling Sour's every move with the car
>You see it as preparing her to be an actually competent driver
>Tensions ease
>Arenaline drains
>Eventually a criticism dies on your lips as you laugh
>Indigo joins you
>She leans over the console, hand up, that you happily clasp and shake as she punches your shoulder
>>
>>43683706
>You won
>You fucking won
>You’re alive, and damn does it feel good
>The girls then begin squealing over the fact that Sour just ran over the worst guy in your school's history
>She even has the self-awareness to have them ease up so she can focus
>It's not much, but it's a start at least
>Maybe she's not a completely hopeless driver
>"So, how are we installing the tie-rod?" Sour finally asks. "I swear if we have to do another goose chase-" Her sour venom starts to seep into her words
>You wave her off
"We've got all we need. I just need to load some equipment from my place into the car, drive it to yours, set up in your garage, fix her up, and that's it." You say with a certainty that you can see eases the girl
>"And that's really it?" She asks
>You want to scoff, but there's something in her eyes that stops you
>A small pleading
>She's still freaking out at the simple possibility of being whisked away from her life and friends
>You bite down the scoff, and simply nod
"That's it." You assure with finality
>She heaves a sigh and seems to finally relax before whipping her hair back and forth
>"Good, cause today sucked." She mutters through gritted teeth
>"Hey, I didn't see you climbing in that hydraulic press." Indigo points out
>"It wasn't exactly pleasant watching one of your best friends climb into a press and then see it get turned on either." Sugarcoat adds
>"Ha! You admitted we're best friends." Indigo points out
>Sugarcoat rolls her eyes, but smirks. "I've never said you weren't one, I've only ever said it's embarrassing."
>Jokes soon flow like water through the car
>Along with them come the unfortunate conclusion that, unless you want to be outed for what amounted to grand larceny, you couldn't get anymore back at Sombra
>The fire obsidian might not have had a price tag
>But the fact its value wasn't measured meant it most likely hit the threshold for that particular felony
>So you'd all have to be satisfied with hitting him with a car
>Which, in all honesty, did feel pretty good
>Eventually, you reach your house, and wave the girls off, Lemon throwing an arm around your shoulder in a half hug
>"Anon, we should totally hang out more, dude." She cheers with her usual, easy-going grin. "I thought you just knew good tunes, but you're pretty cool!"
"Thanks... I think?" You say
>The idea wasn't unappealing to you
>The rest of the girls leave without much ado, and you're left with your car again
>You trace a hand along her edges as you inspect the part where she hit Sombra
"Oh, honey... did Sour drive you alright?" You ask the dear on wheels
>She doesn't answer, but you can feel it a little
>Sour needs work, but getting to fold Sombra like that felt good
>Maybe you won't buff out that particular dent
>It has a good story to go with it
>Still, that drive through the scrap yard left her filthy
>You'll have to get into all her cracks and crevices to get her clean again
>There are a still a few more hours before its the dead of night
>>
>>43683707
>You've got time
>Whistling a tune, you slowly reverse your car into the garage, turn on your stereo, and get to cleaning
>You're under your car again before long, ironically enough, cleaning your tie-rods
>Then you get deja vu as a foot rudely drags you out from under it
>You're staring up at Sour Sweet
>"Sup." Indigo Zap says casually
"The fuck are you lot doing back here?" You groan, exasperated
>You swear, if her parents are back early, it is officially no longer your problem
>"Oh, were we interrupting? While you weren't paying attention to your phone?" She waves hers at you with a grouchy expression
>Your phone?
>You sigh and grab it, as it lights up, sure enough, there's a message to you
>From a Group Chat you're not a part of
>Until now, it seems
>"The Shadowbolts- and Anon"
"Why do you have my number?"
>Sour smirks and waves over to Lemon Zest
>"Lemon here snagged your number when she pickpocketed your phone." She says, as if that answered the question
"Why?" You press
>"In case we needed to call our mechanic~" She teases you
>You let out a mix of a sigh and a groan
>Looks like you're not finishing this either
>As you sit up, you notice the girls all carrying bags
"And the bags?" You ask as you stand to your feet
>"Sleepover at yours dude. Like the text said!" Lemon grins
>You were so distracted by the group name that you hadn't bothered to read more into it
>Several comments about being bored
>Ideas about what else to do for the day
>Those ideas being shot down
>Then the idea of a sleepover
>Reasons for why one house or another wouldn't work brought up
>Then
>'Hey, Anon, sleepover at yours? Don't reply if you're okay with it'
>You glare at the girls
>You couldn't really tell who was who amidst the stupid nicknames they gave themselves
>"Oh don't be like that, Anon, it'll be fun. So quit whining." Sour scoffs at you
"Why the hell would any of you want to do this?" You ask, more tired than anything.
>"You helped us in a situation none of us could have handled when you didn't need to. Helped us work through the museum. Got us through the scrap yard and away from that freak, thanks Sour, and you seem cooler than the introverted loner we thought you were." Sugarcoat rattles off in a neat summary
>You're not sure whether to feel good about what she said or not
>"See, it's simp-" Sour begins
>"Also Sour really wanted it to be at your place." Sugar ends with a smirk
>"Not helping, Sugar!" Sour rounds on the girl, who's undeterred by her
>This seems nice
>But also too easy
>You still barely know these girls
>The sponge you'd been using to cling is wrung out as your hand grips it
"What even makes you think I want to be friends?" You meant for it to come out rude and pointed
>To make them realize how stupid this was and send them off
>Instead it comes off as a lot more pathetic than you ever wanted to sound
>"Cause you're lonely." Sugarcoat casually adds
>>
>>43683709
>"Also, we're great friends to have, and you couldn’t do better if you tried, just saying." Sunny adds
>You sit on the hood of your car and sigh
>Your phone gets pocketed, you chuck the sponge over your shoulder to some corner of the garage and wipe down your hands
>Then you press your hands into your eyes before looking up at the girls
>Was it always just... this easy to make friends? All this time?
>You didn't want to believe it, but, nonetheless
"Please tell me one of you snatched booze from your parents." You say
>Indigo and Lemon grin wide as they both pull bottles from their bags
>That just about seals it for you
>Rolling your eyes you nod towards the door that connect the garage to your house
"Kitchen's through the door. No one goes in my parents' room. No one touches the stereo system except me and Lemon." You list off rules as you hold the door open
>"I swear I will get you to enjoy one song from this century." Sour scoffs as she walks past
>Lemon and Indigo clink their bottles together in an early cheers
>Sunny peers in through the door and shrugs
>"My place is better." She says with a confident stride
>Very subtle
>Sugarcoat stops in front of you, looking you up and down
"What?" You ask, uncertain why she hasn't joined the others
>"You and Sombra are weirdly alike." She state bluntly
>You don't answer, but you imagine your eyes do enough for you
>Cause you know she's not entirely wrong
>She soon follows everyone else, as do you
>This day just gets weirder and weirder

decided to put this in a paste https://ponepaste.org/12228
should I add any of the other girls as part of the tags? I put just Sour Sweet for now since she's the girl who sort of kicked off the whole series of events
also, I personally find Sunny Flare to be the hardest to write dialogue for, the best I can come up for her personality is "Rarity with no tact" for some reason, though they didn't get much more screen time or more lines I find Lemon Zest, Sugarcoat, Sour Sweet and Indigo Zap easier to write for

I love it!
>should I add any of the other girls as part of the tags?
Might not be necessary

I just made this, a Tier List about Shadowbolts ships between them
>https://tiermaker.com/create/equestria-girls-shadowbolts-ships-19970128
It'd be cool to see your opinions even if you're not a shipper (I wouldn't call myself one either, but hey, the dynamic between the girls is interesting to discuss)
try not to make the usual "none, the only good ship is them and me" joke, we all know that already
