Is there any list of lost media one can search through to see if one have a copy? Would be nice if there was an active list of media sought after that people could check and scan their backups for to help out.

I usually download random stuff so who knows, but my organizing skills is a bit lacking (to say it mildly). So my backups are usually in the form of "I'll copy all to NAS and start fresh, and one day I will organize it all". Which leads to multiple backups without organization other than date backup was made.
