What does /mlp/ think of the My Little Pony n’ Friends series in 2026? I’m doing a whole franchise watch-through and I can see some of the secret sauce of FiM already. The Flutter Ponies kick ass.
>>43657417>Nothing can stop the Smooze!>Well, uh, except for the Flutterponies actually.Kind of a downer, but it's a kid's movie (from the 80s) after all.
It's good for what it is but it is what it is, which is horribly dated. A lot of it is great material for stuff like anni streams of getting shitfaced with friends but the cultural distance is kind of jarring to modern children so I don't think I'd, you know, put it on for my niece until she was old enough to enjoy it ironically. Some of the animation and character design is really nice.
>>43657420Well, yeah. Everybody wants resistance to fire, lightning, ice, acid, cold, and even sonic damage, but nobody puts points into wind resistance.
>>43657417It's interesting to come back to, I enjoy a lot of the songs (even if they're really short) and there are some clever plots and ideas. But it's an 80s children's toy ad cartoon with all the trappings of one. "The elements were inside us all along" seems like such a basic revelation that we take for granted, when I watched the G1 pilot I kept expecting something like this, but the day was just saved by a magical mcguffin. So even something we consider a fairly basic bit of storytelling was well outside G1's reach. For your pic related, I like the song but the flutter ponies in that episode appear completely out of nowhere. The way the episode was set up, I kept expecting that the town of the ponies who had their souls stolen by Arabus would be the army to take him down, that would make sense narratively after all. But again, something random and magical saves the day.I suppose stuff like that makes sense for a show that didn't even have a consistent cast of main characters outside of humans though. That boggles the mind but I guess execs back then really though that was the way to sell as many toys as possible.
>>43657417umm its not MLP:FIM so its bad
>>43657417Peak mare design
>>43657417THE FLUTTER PONIES!!!!
>>43657417Probably the second best generation. While it is diluted by the typical cartoon tropes from the 80's, I can recognize a level of effort to give the world a feeling of wonder.
>>43657417I managed to finish this today. I only had season 2 left. It kind of ended with a whimper, but that’s okay. My favorite story was Bright Lights and my least favorite was The Ice Cream Wars. Kind of dreading Tales from what I heard of it.
>>43657417I love G1 and yeah the flutterponies are cute.
>>43657685This. Pony needs to return to this equine shape.
>>43657417I grew up with it so I fucking love this shit.
>>43657417windwhistler best pony
>>43658130>It kind of ended with a whimper, but that’s okayHaving proper series finales wasn't really in vogue back then, your toy advertisement cartoon just kept going until it got cancelled.
