Let's look at this closely.

Spike is a kid, and Twilight is the adult he lives with, making Twilight responsible for him. That means if he fucks up, then Twilight's the one who would need to discipline him. The question then is would Twilight punish him if he were naughty?

Based off the show, the things Spike has done that could be considered bad/punishment worthy are:
>Burned a book and lied about it.
>Tried to frame an owl for the above.
>Ran away from home.
>Took a dangerous artifact from the abandoned castle without permission, while going there without anyone but the owl knowing, which ended up causing a large amount of damage forcing multiple busy princesses to deal with it.
>Used Twilight's position to give himself some benefits while fucking over an official delegation group by lying, which resulted in mass property damage.
>Stealing (though that might not have been entirely his fault).
>To a lesser extent, he could be a snarky asshole at times early on.
>Fucked over the breezies by climbing a tree and stomping on it.

In all of these cases, Twilight only scolded Spike, made him apologize, just frowned at him or did fuck all about it. She never actually gave him any punishments. This leads me to believe that she probably wouldn't punish him in most cases. He would need to do something really bad, as in worse then any of the things above, or do something bad repeatedly for her to actually consider giving him a punishment. But what would that be?

I'd imagine any punishment, if it ever came to that, Twilight would come up with would be planned out thoroughly, because Twilight is an obsessed nerd. She wouldn't do something like that on a whim. The punishments for foals in the show we see examples of are chores, which the CMC had to do in like, 2 episodes, and there was one mention of a grounding. Those two seem to be common punishments for foals, so they are a possibility for him. Chores would be redundant since he already works as Twilight's assistant, and what would Twilight ground him from? Comics? I cannot imagine bookhorse punishing by taking away reading privileges. Beyond that, she'd have to either find something creative, or go for spankings, the former I don't know what could be and for the latter, it's hard to imagine. If she did do it though, she would definitely give a long-winded lecture about why she's doing it beforehand.

Either way, I would say that it's unlikely Twilight would punish him for most things, let alone do something like this pic.

Hard to say. The only times we saw a filly get punished was Applebloom getting potentially grounded, the CMC having to do chores twice and Golly getting sent to fucking hell (sadly). So I would say that physical punishments wouldn't be impossible since it would fall somewhere between those. I just don't think Twilight would particularly rely on that with Spike.

Anybody have their own idea for how Celestia got Spike's egg?

My headcanon:
Dragon Quest and other Merriwether Williams retardation didn't happen. Dragons are mysterious to ponies and ponies hardly get into contact with them. Teenage bipedal dragons don't exist. Celestia found Spike's egg in the Royal Garden one day, as if it was laid there on purpose. Celestia tried to have the dragon mother found, but because dragons don't have a shared community, there was nobody to really inquire who it might be. Celestia knew the baby in the egg would perish if it was not hatched in due time, however her own magic would not react to it, nor that of any other ponies. Seeing Twilight and her particular magic affinity, she had a hunch and gave Spike's egg to Twilight specifically for the test.

There's some niggles here and there but it's altogether better than what we got.

I liked the evolution between the two, while Spike may have held onto that crush for nine seasons, he went from being a "pathetic simp" to becoming a true friend who possesses some self-respect.
