M.A. Larson quit their team because he was made to write this, by the way
>>
>>43680436
Source? Or are you just assuming that because the two things happened vaguely around the same time?
>>
>>43680399
Little girls didn't even appreciate it though. Half the problem was the number of episodes, like F&M itself, that were targeted at the fandom or weird pseudopolitical stuff. Plus a lot of the character designs from that era specifically fucking sucked. Two episodes later they did the first truly dedicated Pillars episode and they had not even a tenth the cultural impact of the fucking student six lol.

iirc the episode was intended to make a point about the show not being about logical throughlines or consistency, it's about teaching morals to little girls. Which funnily enough does nothing to address the criticisms even the episode itself presents. Imagine how much better those episodes woulld be if they taught good morals to girls AND were written well.

Lol at the retards in the comments defending the episode

Oh, damn. That must suck ass to get stuck writing what is essentially an inflammatory opinion piece that you don't even agree with. Thanks for the source.

>still feel the need to lambast people who dislike the episode
Holy hell, how dense can they be?

He enjoyed it, he's just a cuck that backs down and deflects against any criticism and acts like he's on "our side".

People have shit taste and don't appreciate the Pillars.
>>
>>43680436
He didn't like the ending they made him write, but he didn't "quit" because of it since the writers generally do contract work, i.e. get hired per episode. He was approached to write for S8 or S9 again, but refused because Hasbro didn't offer him a raise (iirc the writers were still getting essentially the same rate as earlier seasons, possibly S1 even), I'm fairly certain he said he would've come back if not for that.
>>
>>43680959

As they should.

Funnily enough the only pillar I really have a problem with is Starswirl. Somnambula is a bit boring (and Rockhoof is a fraud, obviously, but that's the point of the character) but Starswirl gets pushed way too much and it's a long running persistent problem. I don't know if there was one staffer who wasn't a retarded like in an exec position that guided it away from total IDW slop or what but we were only narrowly saved from total disaster by essentially having things shake out without any true retcons, but I definitely don't think the writers understood that.

He did not and the leaks proved it. He wanted a different ending but a executive said "Nuh uh, only the little girls matter"
>>
>>43684102
If only the little girls mattered the episode would never have been made in the first place.
>>
>>43684111
It is incredible how Fame & Misfortune blatantly fails in so many levels yet there are still people defending it as a justified ownage to the "toxic fandom"
>>
>>43684122
If you hadn't realized yet, we here on /mlp/ are the "toxic fandom." It doesn't matter your beliefs, if you post here, you're not one of the GOOD, hecking wholesome, Appledash canon-writing, S9 ending i cri everi tiem-appreciating, habernigger worshipping, tiktok edit making, Derpibooru poster and you're labeled as the enemy. It's us against the horse world, Anon, and somehow we're still winning
>>
>>43684165
>and somehow we're still winning
Are we really, though
>>
>>43684169
I'd argue our existence and culture surviving against all odds, albeit in a weakened form, is winning.
>>
>>43684122
I watched the show before I even knew the fandom existed and I liked the episode. It's a funny episode about ponies misunderstanding the m6's friendship journal and thinking the m6 were playing characters in an elaborate story they starred in.

There's no problem in liking the episode, just don't claim it's good when it's clearly not.
>>
>>43684290
I liked the episode because it's good.

No, you liked it because you're a big faggot.
>>
>>43680399
They really could have addressed all the issues they had with the fandom through a more productive method.

Instead
>twilight was better before she got wings
Is 100% true. Not specifically because of muh wings, but it's difficult to say that the writing of her hadn't cratered after the wings. I'm convinced that her failures to have a believable princesshood are way more an issue than the wings. It just wasn't handled well.

On the other hand, things like Fluttershy being, shy, and not ever changing are actually very realistic, and completing that arc gives you garbage like "Fluttershy Leans In." A boring episode with no point. It was almost a response to people who said she never grows. As if to say 'here's why we leave her arc incomplete' because by having her overcome her anxieties she became the most boring mare.

I feel like the "We're not perfect" song was 100% valid. In light of Fluttershy's most boring episode.

That said. How on earth did they simultaneously say the fandom is full of shit (mostly true) but then allow the criticism from said fandom guide their writing?! From making darker themes, to not reforming villains, to completing character arcs so early you need new ponies, on and on. You can't say "the fandom is stupid" and then take every stupid idea the fandom had. Hell, they even took the shity "twilight outlives her friends" idea.

This is why season 1 and 2 are so much better than the rest. They just wrote it for kids without our influence. But man, referencing a fandom in show is about as petty as it gets. And then to use the fandom criticism to guide awful changes to the shows tone as just icing on the cake. Damn show writers.
>>
>>43684959
>They just wrote it for kids without our influence
>season 2
Lol? You can tell they were pandering to the adult audience just from Return of Harmony and Lesson Zero
And that's not even including Derpy
>>
>>43681013
>Trixie gets the 4 move mate
Kek.
>>
>>43684977
All those scripts were written before our influence got too bad. Besides I would argue that the tonal shift between season 1 and 2 isn't a net positive.
>>
>>43684959
I liked Twilight more after wings, she was finally starting to progress as a character and she became more relatable. Early Twilight was directionless, she merely existed as the plot mover and exposition bot. Her only saving grace was her snark which isn't even unique to her since Spike, AJ, and Dash have some of that too.
>>
>>43685244
>she was finally starting to progress as a character
Wow, she went from snarky and rude and quirky to... uh... she starting being... um... hm... NOT snarky, rude, and quirky?
