the whole chillwave thing was like a minor explosion in indie world for a super short period of time, and feel it all around was one of main defining tracks. When they picked it for the Portlandia intro it got a chuckle and an eye roll from me, kind of a tongue-in-cheek pick imo.
It's obvious that Portlandia's space in time and popularity has far outdone that short chillwave burst, so it's no surprise that that track has been almost entirely subsumed by it, but the fact that it's been long enough since that people don't remember/know that chillwave happened actually makes me feel old as fuck lol.

I'm a Eurofag and never even been to the US, and Dead Moon immediately caught me the first time I heard them. Similar to Roky Erickson.

yeah for sure. Checked that one out and idk, I like how sloppy it is and the overall energy, but it's definitely rooted in a a genre that doesn't do much for me or maybe I just don't know enough about. I do like Roky Erikson though.
From that vid they give me the vibe of like, these guys have been around forever doing this shit, they got a lot of heart and the songs rock so we keep showing up, local legends etc.
I saw Bobby Conn play last week, was a Chicago No Wave guy back when that was happening, local legend kinda vibe, but now they're all old and when they play all the OGs show up. They still rock tho for sure. Was getting that kinda energy from that Dead Moon vid but culturally I'm def missing something.
