picking ambient feels kinda against the rules to me for some reason, but all these classic Hiroshi Yoshimura albs are super comfy to me. Chill ambient stuff with enough depth to stay interesting but very straight forward and easy to take in, not challenging or abstract at all really

ambients big problem is that its a genre with lots of good stuff, but its all hidden among a vast sea of mediocrity and dross. I spose all genres suffer that to some extent but damn theres so much anonymous and unimaginative ambient out there.
reason being, its the easiest genre in which to make something listenable but one of the hardest to make something great.

for sure, even amongst places I trust more than most for ambient recs I feel I'm often sifting through a bunch of stuff with nothing to offer. A couple pads with volume automation, some higher pitched bells and a swelling bass, it's just not enough. Music that stays within the ambient palette but manages to be engaging and interesting is the best though
