>Really appreciate his poetry
>Finally decide to listen to his music
>Feels like i was promised a bigger piece of cake
...Am i the problem?

It's not exactly the same as his poetry, I myself only listen to his first 3 records, they are cool.

You're probably not Jewish...
>>
>>130367871
I mean his poetry is more jewish than his music.

The Best of Leonard Cohen [Columbia, 1975]
I've always found "Sisters of Mercy" unnecessarily and uncharacteristically icky--"You can read their addresses by the light of the Moon"--really? But if you're like me and you admire Cohen's albums more than you play them, then this will be the one you find yourself pulling out and playing the most. B

i've read some pretty convincing stuff about how that guy was in fact a demented religious fanatic, and it gives me the ick. That said i'd be curious to read his poetry. Any advice to get directly to the best works?

The Future is a 10/10 album, perfect doomy end of days vibe and the lyrics to the title track are totally prescient, if you're not moved by Anthem then yeah youre the problem

pure theater, anon. Sweet summer child
>>
>I, Jew, has sex
There, that's the extent of what LC has to say in his music.

Jesus was a sailor

This may not be a popular opinion, but i think the best way to approach Leonard Cohen's music is through the two compilations, Best Of from 1975 and More Best Of from 1997. They cover two of his main eras, the folk guitar and the Casio synth eras respectively, and from there you can investigate individual albums. For the third and final era, the post-Casio synth era, his final two albums You Want it Darker and Thanks for the Dance are good listens.

I still have a foreskin and do not have sex, it was not meant to be i guess, lol

Well, the book where he is mostly carried out by religious symbolism and morality is Let us Compare Religions, so stay away from that and search for his later works. But still, you won't really be able to run away from his religious symbolism.

I'd say go straight to Cohen Live (1994)

If I want to move to a Toronto property with views facing the Leo portrait, what's my best option and how much will it set me back?

Cohen was pretty shocked and disturbed by Dylan's Christian conversion during the Slow Train era.
>>
>>130376108
if you're last name is cohen it basically means you're from a line of prophets, i.e. "i'm the little jew who wrote the Bible"
>>
>>130376108
Also Dylan tried to convert Jerry Wexler but he wasn't interested. Dylan is a Gemini so he has split personality disorder and changes his beliefs from one month to the next. Geminis are always a little unhinged.
>>
>>130376397
that is true btw.

>Rosemary Clooney
>Kanye
>Brian Wilson
all Geminis all had huge mental/psychotic breakdown episodes
>>
listening to "you want it darker" is eerie
it feels like im hearing the voice of israel promising to devour my firstborn

>They're lining up the prisoners
>And the guards are taking aim
>I struggled with some demons
>They were middle-class and tame
>I didn't know I had permission
>To murder and to maim
>You want it darker

>Hineni, hineni
>I'm ready, my Lord

if he was alive today he would personally be killing palestinian babies

>if he was alive today he would personally be killing palestinian babies
Since Cohen would be 92 if he was alive today I think he might be a bit too old to be doing that.
>>
>>130376712
he would have them delivered to his chambers

>Wexler, who produced Slow Train Coming, recalled that Dylan was extremely enthusiastic about his newfound Christian conversion and tried to convince him to convert. "I told him 'Forget it, Bob. I'm a no-good, dirty 62 year old Jewish atheist. I'm hopeless. Now let's just get this album recorded.'"[8]
