Even the j-pop groups that were very removed from rock would just randomly have surprisingly competent guitar solos thrown in that in the West you'd only hear in a rock band.So as silly (and even I disagree with him on this) as his view that Japan was the last bastion of mainstream rock and metal is, I can see where he's coming from in a "you're not remotely correct but you have a point" kind of way.
