Initially because I didn’t want to be around large groups of people at the time and beyond that because the price of concerts got crazy.
Musicians make most of their money from touring now.
It’s hard to justify paying around $100
a head when I used to see great shows for less than $20.
Also, I run a recording studio so I have music going on all around me most of the time so I’m not deprived of music.

10 more
Roger Waters
Mark Knopfler
Gillian Welch and David Rawlings
Styx
Tears for Fears (The Outfield opened)
Edie Brickell and the New Bohemians
Lollapalooza II

Neil Young and Crazy Horse
Steely Dan

I was the guitar tech for the New Orleans Radiators and toured with them for about six months so I’ve seen them more times than I can count as well as working with The Nevill Brothers, The Funky Meters, and Lou Rawls among others

The Brian Jonestown Massacre
The Cult (performing Love)
Psychic TV
The Spits

The Breeders (performing Last Splash)

I'm not into any of those bands except for 3 of them. More into electro nowadays.. I was there in NYC for nearly all the Witchhouse shows. Cut my teeth surfing to Hardcore/Thrash revival shows, I'd list that stuff but likely few if any anons would know these bands

I only listed artists that put on a great show, many of these I've seen later and gave godawful shows on different tours, or at least a huge drop in quality (BtS and Vincent for two, don't see BtS as a 3 piece if you're a real fan). If I was a teen in the 90s you'd bet I'd have a sick list of alternative bands. Left out bands like Tool and Soundgarden or the super dad rockers I saw in huge arenas like Iron Maiden or Sabbath or Van Halen (great show)

+1 on Negative Approach. I've seen BtS about 5 times in the past couple years at various festivals, unfortunately it's always been the 3 piece lineup which is really disappointing. people keep defending it by saying they've always rotated their lineup, so how about another rotation and get a 2nd guitar player that can fill out the songs that don't need to be reinterpreted on bass in the current lineup.

Subrosa was my favorite band. Her vocals are weird but theyre like that on record too. Its just how she sings.
When I saw them in 2016 it actually brought me to tears when they played black majesty. I dont know why and it's the only time that happened. I didn't even know the skng at that point since that album wasnt out yet. Their sound is just so large and layered and beautiful that it just really got to me live.
Saw sleep when they were touring around 2015 or something and a bit later than that. Theyre fine.

when I first learned of Negative Approach I was seeing Circle Jerks (and Adolescents) because my hardcore punk bro badly wanted to go to the show so I went and NA was the opener and they just stood quietly and the singer stared hellishly into the crowd at seemingly no one and he spat on the ground and as the spit hit the floor the drums, guitar all kicked in heavy and hard as fuck with the vocals sounding like this primal growl unlike most punk, the whole show he had this berserker energy staring down his prey and nonstop hostile energy while the pit went mad, Evacuate was the concert highlight. Only later did I learn that the singer completely changed his vocal sound and replaced his more typical bonehead punk vocal with this more metal all aggression growl, as someone who just discovered them I vastly prefer the new angrier yell but I gotta say its crazy that a band hit their midlife and suddenly hes pivoted to yelling more, nigh unheard of.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amdFo099PBk&t=473s
whole concert is good but go to 6:30 to hear Evacuate live I think it greatly demonstrates how much their sound has improved
