A nigger act for a nigger fanbase. Equivalent to Beatles for pop music, simple and uninspired enough to attract anyone who can't get into actual electronica. Their gimmicky has been long exhausted and this album will be confirmation. Genuinely sorry for the retards for buy into it.

So far no two BoC albums have been the same, the closest it ever got to that was maybe TCH being a refinement of the MHTRTC but even those two don't feel or sound the same.

Went to the NYC listening session. Really enjoyed it.

It is not Geogaddi 2. Sounds closest to Tomorrow's Harvest, with more Twoism than I was expecting. The progression of a couple of tracks reminded me of Chinook specifically. Inferno has some of the most awesome drums I've ever heard BoC make.

Also, those Vocaroo "leaks" are fake.

>Elusive adjectives such as “uncanny” and “enigmatic” cluster around Boards of Canada, like signposts marking the end of the known world. The Scottish duo, brothers Marcus Eoin and Mike Sandison, are acclaimed for making cryptic electronic music with distorted vocal samples and smeary textures, like the trippy melting patterns produced when celluloid overheats.

Admirers label them “hypnagogic”, evoking a shadowy place between waking and sleep, or “hauntological”, summoning ghosts from a hazily remembered past through the circuitry of their analogue synthesisers. But Inferno, which arrives after a long and (of course) enigmatic absence, struggles to reach their previous heights.
The album is their first since Tomorrow’s Harvest in 2013. A brief intro, “Introit”, sets us on our way with a sunrise ripple of chords, nodding to 1970s electronic pioneers such as Harmonia.

This synthesis of esoteric knowledge and science, conducted through the medium of the synthesiser, is thought-provoking but also carries a dated quality. Today, ghost-in-the-machine notions of technological life have been overtaken by fears about human collapse into barbarism and machine supremacy through AI. Although Inferno’s Dantean title captures the apocalyptic tenor of the present time, its retro-futurist soundworld loses steam over the course of 70 minutes.

Live drums and electric guitars play a more prominent role than usual, adding a gothicky, post-punk ambience. Vocal samples range from Hare Krishna chants in “Naraka” (the Sanskrit word for hell) to a woman talking about embryo development in “The Word Becomes Flesh”, accompanied by Portishead-style spy-film guitar. The sampled voices resemble The Avalanches’ jokey bricolages, but without the jokiness, while an unvarying midtempo pace gives proceedings a ponderous air. The duo’s ear for sound design remains impressive, but their music doesn’t get under the skin as it used to.
>>
The best part about this album is when it's finally released and 2 days later no one will make threads about this reddit band anymore.
>>
>>130397617
tard
>>
>In this context, the appearance of sampled Hare Krishna chanting on the ghastly Naraka makes it seem as if they’re laughing at eastern religion, too – either that or they’re just deploying lazy orientalism (which later reappears with the sitar twang of Deep Time).

Ordered the red vinyl from Bandcamp an hour after the listening went up, won't be getting it until a week later. I've ordered the CD today from an indie shop they have a limited edition print for some reason, bet it gets there quicker lol

What country? Bleep went down so i was far from the first to get the order in.

yeah I made a mistake naming Father and Son instead of Deep Time initially

It was on YT also. I decided to listen last night, against better judgement. Audio quality was trash on that upload, so it won't really impact my experience when I go to a local record store listening event next week.
Initial thoughts: the album gets better in the second half. Second-to-last track is classic BoC; anything that comes before that pretty new.
Seems to be a focus on rhythm. Not that the percussion is particularly complex, but drums take center stage (or I just couldn't hear their characteristic melodies through the mix).
Vocal chops are excellent. Very telephasic workshop at parts. There's also a "rap" track which admittedly I wasn't a huge fan of.
Definitely their Hell Interface record, as others have mentioned. People who really liked Prophecy and their Meat Beat and Nevermen remixes will fall in love. I'm not sure about others.
Someone elsewhere said it sounds like the SMT IV OST and that's actually a pretty apt description:

TLDR: solid, but very different. Probably gonna be divisive. I'd award it 8/10.

>but drums take center stage

based, love drum heavy BoC tracks
>>
The World Becomes Flesh is the closest thing we're getting to Spiro.
>>
>>130401523
goated choice, underrated track
>>
>>130402728
in a way where it lives up to spiro? I love that track it's so cool
>>
>>130402728
The Word Becomes Flesh is my favorite for that reason next to Naraka
THANK YOU, i thought i was going crazy.
don't worry BOCset will come out in 20 years and have Spiro finally maybe (pls).

It's slower tempo but the chopped vocals sound similar.
>>
>>130402759
nah not quite but it's a very similar type of composition, like a Spiro if it was incubating in the womb before birthing into Spiro Popper.

this

it is just so happy even compared to their debut. Would love an EP of just total happy clappy songs like that lol, it is pure fucking sunshine
>>
>>130403014
it really is a lovely romp, great track for drawing, that's when i usually have it cycling.

that would be neat but i remember they expressed (obviously could have changed in the modern day) that they don't really have in interesting in composing happy music. (some interview i forget which)

How big is the fiasko?

Guys you all aren't going to be disappointed. I went to the listening party and was floored.

waiting for this album has given life some meaning, I'm almost depressed its about to be over, back to having nothing to look forward to

I love it. It's not the BoC album I've listened to most across my lifetime but it's the one I've listened to most in theast decade

Wait what?! Where’s marcus
>>
>>130403567
>>130403637
he's still credited as a performer. Some are saying its kind of always been like this, where Mike has been the main producer

any nerds that can verify this?

>>
>>130403650
mhtrtc - th all list in the physical cover notes as being written and produced by both, so this phrasing is definitely odd
>>
>>130403721
all the LPs say the same thing, "written recorded and produced by Mike and Marcus", obviously to most people this implies both handle all aspects but it could just be this one credits each part specifically to who did it instead of just saying the equivalent of "Marcus and Mike made this"
>>
>>130403567
It says Marcus Eoin right there though
>>
>>130403650
As >>130403721 said: On prior LPs and EPs, the credits generally include both as "Artwork, Design, Recorded By, Written-By, Producer."
Inferno credits are very specific. That is a little peculiar. That being said, it doesn't mean Marcus bailed before completion of the record or he died or something.
We still don't have any interviews leading up to release, though. Typically they'd have something in magazines by now?
>>
Could mean that this is their final album if Marcus is out, for whatever reason
>>
>>130403662
really gonna need some extra context for "Audio Generator [Audio Evocations]"

>>130403721
Maybe Mike’s just become bitter because Marcus is the tall handsome member so people assume he’s the leader of the band. Hence more elaborate credits this time. Classic insecure manlet meltdown BOC edition
>>
>>130403567
>He doesn't know that this means a Marcus album will shadowdrop the day of Inferno's release

such a waste due to capitalism, having to wait to enjoy good music already created, in order to maximize profits. there are already copies being shared privately, but they don't share with us!

say it takes them another 13 years to release an album, that would be 2039. the guys would be 68 years old.
Also I'm pretty sure the world is going to end in 2033 when Christ returns on the 2000 year anniversary of his crucifixion at the peak of WWIII

How long have you been a fan? I've been waiting for this for 13 years. Can't imagine getting this bent up over a couple of days. I'm not gonna even listen to it until the right time comes around. Fuck is wrong with people
