"Time signatures" is the thing people who want to LARP as caring about musical complexity (and who equate that to how good the music is) harp on recently.
I noticed when Deltarune 3+4 dropped. This subgroup of people is adamant "Third Sanctuary" is the best track in the game because of muh time signatures.

geeking out over time sigs is reddit as fuck.

5/4 is not an obscure/rare time signature

I'm not angry I just think it's eye-roll-inducing. Go look at the comments of that song on youtube

I can't believe I fell for this Mossad psyop of a band.

See: Jacob Collier. I’ve never seen someone with such passion for musical complexity make such uninteresting and emotionally uninspired music. A million colours to choose from and he just paints in many shades of brown.

I agree that people do over intellectualise odd time signatures, but for me the appeal is more of an embodied thing of internalising the groove. Stop trying to count and just FEEL the pocket.

Jacob Collier apparently actually at least "knows his stuff" for whatever that's worth. I wouldn't say he's LARPing even if what he makes sucks, from what I understand about him. (Which is little, I'm going off what others have said.)
Time signature stuff is LARP because the people wanking about it online don't actually have their own understanding of music, instead it's something they bandwagon on. It's easy to learn that a song has an odd time signature without actually being invested in that or even understanding what it means.

It's too bad this guy ran out of ideas for videos. I liked his channel a lot.

You telling me a goose can play musical instruments???

This is that band who were at the airport

I thought this was going to be about birds that would have been kinda cook

for sure dude. Odd time sigs can be awesome but the song has to warrant it. When people get too deep into berklee circle jerk shit they just start throwing in random time sigs for no reason other than to be dorks.
The other thing too is that once you're actually decent at playing music doing odd time signatures isn't difficult at all. The type of people that a weird time impresses are people who can barely play. This is the same with anything that's overly technical, once you have skill there's pretty much nothing you can't play. Creativity and good ideas are always going to prevail over muscle memory and motor skills

HOLY FUCK IS THAT 9/8
>>
>>130398244
I really like 7/8, especially grouped as 3 2 2
Nice groove to it
>>
I stopped watching that guys videos when I realized all his videos focus on pop artists doing something a little bit unorthodox.
>today's video is about this songwriter who added a section in 5/4 for their song
>>

honestly i think odd time signatures are just really cool. i love finding that i can groove in a way i never grooved before. i was doing the most unusual interpretive skanking to odd time signatures at a Geordie Greep show recently. didn't even know it was possible to dance like that. i don't think it's just an intellectual LARP
