They've been playing the same fucking music for 10 years. And they're still touring. Last night at bottlerock james was an hour late, looking drunk / hungover as usual, complaining about his headache with some sad fucking half assed stage banter. This band is on fucking zombie mode life support. why can't they make new music? It's not like it was incredibly complex song writing that's impossible to recreate. Just make some fun dance shit again holy fuck

James is depressed not because he doesn't think he can make "good" music again, but because he knows that despite overcoming his self-doubts in the past and seizing space in a cultural moment, LCD Soundsystem not only still was never that big, but moreover has been easily forgotten and relegated to the past.

He knows that his time is well and truly past and he will never again taste the kind of importance he dreamed about no matter what he does, unless he could miraculously produce something predicting the next zeitgeist, which nobody else has been able to do yet, so how could he? I'm sure he's also aware he was never that talented to begin with.

I liked their past stuff but it was never supposed to be zeitgeist altering music even though for a time everyone pretended it was. Just have some silly lyrics and beep boop sounds to a half decent beat. I don't know why this is so hard

No, I'm saying that in order for people to care about LCD Soundsystem in 2026+, it would have to be that, because their music was never particularly good and appealed to that hipster sense for ironically enjoying "bad" music. "Dance Yrself Clean" is their only earnestly decent track and even that gets tainted past like the first minute or two despite being a whole seven minutes long.

>Just have some silly lyrics and beep boop sounds to a half decent beat.
That is no longer enough if you want to appeal to people who weren't in their twenties or older 15 years ago.

He practically defines the whole 2000s "indie sleaze" thing (that's what zoomers call it now), so he's immortalized in history via that. For better or for worse.

Here's my attempt at a new culturally relevant lcd soundsystem song. It's called " I hate u pleas die"

First the song starts out like this bum dunanananbum dunananan bum dananana
and then james voices goes
"I hate u" and the back up guys go "please die"

>"YEAH I HATE U!" (please die)
>I don't go outside any more
>I don't wanna do anything
>Every time I look and I see your face
>All I wanna do is sing

>BECAUSE I HATE U (PLEASE DIE)
>Because I love you! (THAT'S FINE)

Then the song goes on and on like that for like 7 minutes until it just sort of... ends

how much yo ticket cost?

Why cant people just make good art for the sake of it? Why does there have to be some ulterior phenomenon of thing "tapping into the zeitgeist" for it to matter? Most of the music you atribute to this is probably just some pop garbage that major labels peddle at any given moment in time that happens to get popular or was a watered down aping of some popular underground movement a decade too late

he lost his edge

You sound like the guy in 1998 wondering if Def Leppard or Ratt are going to do anything new.
>>
>>130411795
Shocking to see how this normal group was so hyped. Time prove me right about being mere hype
>>
>>130411871
>predicting the next zeitgeist, which nobody else has been able to do yet
Literally just The Fall with even more racist/antisemitic references
>>
LCD Soundsystem cemented their legacy as a "nostalgia act" the moment they broke up and did a reunion tour. That's what they are now, a nostalgia act for millennials to be like "man music used to be SO EPIC!!"
>>
>>130411795
That "Oh Baby" song made a splash and sounded different from their early stuff.
>>
I saw them in bend like 3 years ago and they gave a really great show. Kinda too late to do another show. They retired when they were making their best music. Then we got one more album which was okay but too little too late
>>
i still fuck with him, he knew his shit and made bangers. self aware hipster asshole, but somehow not insufferable about it like most of the nyc scene
