>joins the Byrds, converts their entire genre to country and they release a country album
>meets Emmylou Harris, converts her from folk to country and she remains a country artist for the rest of her career
>befriends Keith Richards, suddenly the Rolling Stones are doing country songs on their albums inspired by his influence
When has another artist ever been able to not only create his own genre (country rock), but also convert other musicians to his vision like this? Considering the amount of creative disagreements that happen in most bands, or just the average person’s experience listening to music with friends like “Hey guys, can I show you a song?” Gram Parsons had a near-superhuman ability to influence people creatively.

Most accounts are that he has pretty charming dude that was talented and those alone go pretty far, but it helps his parents were rich and he had a big trust fund to help pay for shit when most dudes were broke. Too bad he could also be a flaky drug addict which explains why most of his projects had one or 2 albums before doing the next thing. Personally I think his time in the Internation Submarine Band was better than his time in the Byrds by a decent margin but Guilded Palace and GP are 2 of my all time albums. Too bad about the overdose since id have loved to see what he could do, but having your bro steal your body and burn it in Joshua Tree is pretty based too.

Seems like the biggest “what if” in music ever, to use a cliche

>but having your bro steal your body and burn it in Joshua Tree is pretty based too.

As a parent I am so glad his mother was not alive for that. His death in general seemed almost suicidal in its recklessness but I understand that he had a lot of tragedy and trauma

What if they wore zoot suits instead of nudie suits
