Just checked the datasheets, the OP07's slew rate is still more than adequate for full-range voltage swings well beyond the range of human hearing, not that guitar signals even make full use of it. The LM308 does technically have a higher slew rate, yes, but I rarely find myself mixing audio in the megahertz range.

I want to put together a second pedalboard that’s only four pedals instead of my normal big board that will stay at home. What four pedals do you think are essential? I’m thinking
>tuner for tuning and also killing the signal
>some kind of OD/treble boost
>delay
>reverb, but I’ve also already got spring reverb on the amp so maybe something else
>>
>>130436063
>noise gate
>tuner
>boost if you're hi-gain

Alternatively:

>modeler preamp (has gate and tuner built in)
>power amp

You can throw delay and reverb in the fx loop if you want for leads or cleans. Wah is optional if you're into that. Beyond those things most FX are gimmicky and not stuff you'd have on all the time so easy to prune from the setup.

Thanks. Try not to worry about getting the tone from the record exactly, just getting in the ballpark is fine. Most recorded songs have a fuckton of processing behind the scenes, and what they sounded in the room with human ears wont be 100% the same as the finished recording

>>130434929
Cool cool. You could also make a backing track from the actual track by using sites that sepeaate stems. mvsep comes to mind. After downloading just place the individual tracks into your daw and mute the guitars. Goodluck on your guitar journey m8

I refuse to use AI tools to create backing tracks. I transcribe every part and program everything in MIDI, humanize it manually, and record the stuff I can actually play live

As far as backing tracks, my amp is connected to a laptop so I think it should be pretty easy. I'll try what you recommended. And thank you for the luck, I'll keep practicing. It's really fun so I just keep playing it. I'd really like to spend more time learning slow tracks, scales, and how to make the audio sound good. Also to record the audio from the amp instead of my phone lol. I just got in the habit of making practice videos early on.

If that has the "memphis tone circuit"/50s wiring, I hear that shit is a fucking pain in the ass. Tone knob does weird things and drives extra voltage allegedly. So a good 8v 5t on a normal 335 would need 7v 7t on a memphis.
>>
Can someone please explain to me how to use a compressor pedal like I’m an absolute retard? I get that it can make the quiet things louder and the loud things quieter but I’m having a hard time deciding when to use it when I can just adjust amp settings or simply just adjust how I pick strings between notes. I feel like an absolute mouthbreathing retard because I’ve been fucking around with my compressor for the last two hours and can’t find a real use for it that I can’t just solve with adjusting how I play certain parts or a quick tweaking of some knobs. I want to make use of it but I want to understand how instead of just shelving the pedal for another year.

>>130438573
compression is useful when you're mixing chords with single notes. without compression, chords are much louder than single notes. if you turn your amp way up, your single notes sound great but your chords go splat. with a compressor the single notes are better and the chords splat less so you don't need to compensate as much with your playing. super important in funk where you aren't strumming lightly
>>
>>130438730
when you play fast do you need to make every notes clear though

you don't need to but it sounds a lot better when you can articulate each note

rolling it, i think the pinky now being involved in the sweep picking makes it the biggest hurdle
>>
>>130438930
you have to relax your ring finger for the pinky to have mobility for most people the tendons are connected.
>>
>>130438928
like yeah when you slow it down you can make it sound clear but then you make it faster it's just brbrbr
>>
>>130438955
you can hide a lot of the slop in the middle but the cleaner you can get it the better it sounds even if it still sounds sloppy, its so fast even if you were machine perfect it the string doesn't ring long enough to fully sound out. That's one of the easy tells that someone sped up a track.

Shit's hard. Ideally of course every note should be crisp and clean. But for scrubs like me I think if the beginning and end parts of your sweep are in time with the beat/phrase the middle notes can bypass the ear quickly that the brain just makes up the gaps in information. In reality it sucks of course, and I should go home and take a shower and wash the shame off me because I suck and I can't do it anyway.

Yeah, noticed that too. That's fine, it sounds good.
Just series/parallel for each pickup, but that adds a ton of tonal variation. Thinking about adding the option to reverse the neck pickup's polarity and maybe add true coil splitting.
I have an Epi Les Paul with polarity switches for each pickup (i.e. reverse one of the coils), that's also pretty interesting but less usable.
>>
>>130440603
parallel is really nice, i actually prefer it to split. wouldnt hurt to have both though.

Personally, I’ve owned many guitars with coil tap / split / parallel / series switches. Baja tele, multiple PRS se’s, charvels, les Pauls, Strat deluxe etc. The only guitars I could get a decent tone out of in one of the split coil PRS se’s. It was almost usable for a strat tone. The charvel wasn’t bad either. But, I’ve found that the middle pickup selector works better for single coil tones. And I would probably never configure a guitar with anything other than a 3 or 5 way switch in the future. Asking one guitar to do everything is too much.

Going to put a set of 50/51 custom shop fender black guard pickups in my new tele and ditch the noiseless push pull series selector. What pots should I get to go with them?

>>
>>130440784
I get what you mean, with too many switches it becomes an additional task to take up brainpower, potentially detracting from the actual playing. I mostly use the large number of switches to figure out which combinations I like best, then reduce the amount of options later.

I have a Baja Tele for single coil stuff already, I'm just interested in H/S combinations and out of phase stuff, hence the plans for more rewiring on the LP and Jacksons.

The individual coil polarity thing on the Les Paul is certainly unique since the coils are much closer together than those on a Strat or Tele, giving you different comb filter characteristics. But their usability is limited; you don't get hum canceling anymore and the output amplitude is much lower, so signal to noise ratio is worse and you need a ton of gain from a compressor or drive pedal to get it to audible levels. They sound very thin and trebley, which is certainly a vibe, but not for many styles.

I absolutely love the middle position with both humbuckers in parallel mode, so all 4 coils in phase and in parallel. It's sparkly and clean and great with comp+chorus+reverb for 80s tones.
Bridge 'bucker in parallel with tone all the way down is midrange heaven, great for smooth leads when run into comp+OD.
Neck humbucker on its own with the coils in parallel is a great clean sound, similar to all 4 coils in parallel but with more midrange. Love it with just comp+reverb to mimick a Strat's position 4.
>>
... except Strats have the middle and neck pickups out of phase. Ig maybe it's more like a Tele's middle position but with more mids
In any case, I love those combos.

Now that Fender is suing everybody, where do I go to get a decent cheapass strat? I prefer things with an HH configuration but the coiltap on my nighthawk is a pale imitation of a reg strat.
I was looking at an E-ART basic bitch one because elmo liked it, elmo also liked the harley benton strats but HB specifically got the german cease-and desist and all the E-ART stuff on u.s. amazon got bought up. I didn't use to be opposed to squier but the E-ART strat at 280$ beat the piss out of a 470$ squier CV 60s and actually stays in tune with trem use.
I've heard about firefly but that they're also a gamble but not a bad shot if you want to pop 230$ on a wierd clone of something like buckethead's baritone.
