The real question is does vaporwave still listen to us?

Occasionally before sleep

Sometimes when I’m drunk and feeling nostalgic but not often

>take 80s synthie pop hit
>slow down 50%

>GIVE MONEY PLOX
vaporwave was the biggest scam
>>

Most vaporwave is fre /"pay what you want" on bandcamp though?

free*

every generation has done some stupid shit but this takes the cake.
the worst part is reading how it was all a very deep critic of how we live in a society

You fuckin know it

>>130434368
Good vaporwave is more akin to a sample-heavy form of house, not dissimilar to a lot of Daft Punk's work. But a lot of it unfortunately was very low-effort like you described. The "societal critique" was all post-hoc shit spun up by posers. How pathetic does someone have to be to pose vaporwave of all things? Crazy.
>>
>>130434368
a lot of vaporwave is original compositions now trying to emulate that sound naturally
>>
Aside from Ferarro & EcoJams this shit hasn't aged well, you could literally bump Screw Tapes and get all you need and want from_________. It's too trapped in self-importance, that documentary certainly didn't help, watching Saint Pepsi glaze was cringe as shit

That Macintosh 420 song and Dianna Ross song are completely different entities that attempt to do different things. So much sampling is literally as "low effort" as what vaporwave was doing. Daft punk has arguably been way more lazy than on numerous occasions amd yet all you ever hear is acclaim for "their" music

i am quite fond of this track

Some was kino but I've mostly moved onto chopped and screwed real Htown style. Deep Fantasy and the first two Blank Banshee albums still hold up very well imo, plus some of James Ferraro's stuff

This is one of the chopped and screwed tracks that's practically vaporwave

there is one and only one vaporwave album, and it's the first vaporwave album (OPN's)
>>
I still do sometimes when I'm high as fuck but I don't listen to any new vaporwave, just the peak 2010s shit I always listen do. The genre is almost a product of a specific time (I mean besides being a pastiche of 80s and 90s muzak)

Hype Williams crushed it with the debut and proceeding tapes and mixes, strangely enough that project is overlooked in these talks

>>130435536
You can't separate future funk from vaporwave. The venn diagram is a circle.
>>
>>130433993
I still really like listening to tracks that pitch down Italo Disco and strip it down to the best parts. In principle that's not exactly wildly creative, but it's extremely effective. It just almost always sounds better than the originals

Vaporwave is still surviving, future funk is dead because it was a dead end. Vaporwave despite its meme origins was an original idea and spin on plunderphonics/new age/downtempo electronic music. Future Funk is just French House with Urusei Yatsura gifs
>>
>>130436596
remember artzie music? that dude must have made a killing off that. the most famous vids were ltierally just city pop tracks ran through a low pass filter unedited and put over anime gifs

You are not wrong, people that do and listen to future funk are huge discovery fans but it is still culturally related to vaporware with other genres like cloud rap who was mostly rappers rapping on vaportrap beats and more

wasn't vaporwave a distinctly 2010s thing? like who are the big vaporwave artists in the big 2026?

I made a drum-bass-lead all in one synth station to play SOME vaporwave but it's filler material.
IK Multimedia Drum and Uno plus Donner B1 hooked to a Kustom PA50.

I never really listened to it, but I liked this song which was inspired by it, also it's a song they wrote, not just something slowed down. The band actually does a Roxy Music kind of thing.

Literally was just listening to this in my car less than ten minutes ago.

A lot of the earlier vaporwave holds up especially stuff like SURFING. Vaporwave in my opinion got made redundant because of Synthwave due to similar styles and aesthetic. It didn't help that the community devolved into a bunch of posers and autists arguing over what was vaporwave and what was not like they were tasting wine. We're never going back to the era of albums like Late Night Delight and I really wish it did. Vaporwave for older generations who grew up in the 80s was cathartic because it felt like going back to better times. Still can't believe Saint Pepsi never got sued since a lot of his stuff was just entire tracks just slowed down and given different percussion.
>>
>>130433993
Not much of it these days but I still listen to Blank Banshee a lot. Like a lot of people Vaporwave was my gateway to Blank Banshee so I'll always have an appreciation for it.
>>
>>130433993
The greatest album of the 2010s. Ahh, if only we could go back.

>Still can't believe Saint Pepsi never got sued since a lot of his stuff was just entire tracks just slowed down and given different percussion.

I think not much happens with tiny pressings like that. It was probably the same with Happy Hardcore in the ’90s, I guess. Now some Pajeet is making vinyl bootlegs in larger quantities. But he’s probably the one who’ll end up getting in trouble for it, not Saint Pepsi.

If you are a fan of sample-free, you're a poseur faggot.

Is this basically the successor?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cz2YCRmDOFk

But this kind of Y2K stuff was also done in early Vaporwave already (Internet Club)
