I listen to podcasts in the car. For music, I used to use the Musi app which streamed Youtube videos. But Google got mad and got Apple to remove it from the app store.

If anything. I have this one CD in the car since I found it at the thrift store the other week.

What third world shithole are you in that doesn't have a connection to your phone in the car?

Years ago someone broke into my car and stole my stereo, and for no reason at all the bastard also stole all my CDs. The only silver lining was that maybe I transformed and improved their music taste, but I doubt it.

My 2011 Subaru takes MP3 CDs, so a long time ago I burned a CD that had every Deerhunter and LCD Soundsystem release. I even remember transcoding from FLAC into a smaller bitrate than I would usually use.

It has Monomania on it, so I would have made that CD in 2013. So for about 13 years straight now, that MP3 CD has lived in the CD slot of my Subie.

Now, I did add a Bluetooth adapter so for any serious listening I use my phone. But wow, it makes me feel old AF to consider that I've been listening to a lot of the same shit for THIRTEEN YEARS. If you had told me in 2000 that there were people regularly listening to shit that came out prior to 1987, I guess I wouldn't have been surprised. But I definitely would have that that person was lame and had shit taste.

I feel like the culture has been stuck or stagnant for a while

idk about the culture at large, but music has not been stagnant. Great artists putting out classic stuff over the last decade.

Tons of cars out there with no Bluetooth, no Aux, and no tape deck so you can't use a cassette adapter

That leaves you with just FM transmitters.

I guess those are pretty cheap and popular now. Back in my day, I feel like cassette adapters were far more common than FM transmitters.

Look, I'm a little older. FM transmitters used to be sort of expensive, and they sounded like shit because it was FM and not CD.

I guess these days FM transmitters are cheap. But that doesn't change the fact that they don't sound all that great. I can totally see why some people would prefer CD to them.

I guess I thought the drawbacks of FM transmitters would be obvious to anyone with two ears? Maybe you're just deaf?
