we rehearsed and jammed with 2 different lineups for near 2 years recording some, writing a lot, and playing a few shows ultimately, than lead guitarist and vocalist gave up, the remainder of us reformed with me as lead guitarist and vocalist and then the final bro gave up after a show of that (that went well enough), problem was the other guys didn't appreciate what we had going and that we all liked roughly the same type of music and were all very flexible, I'm also bothered that the first band with the other lead guy he never let us have the demos because he didn't like them but some of those songs were great indie punk shit

He's made songs that are in my personal Top 20 all time. He's been a star for 25 years and hasn't had a single major legal incident - he's a better role model than many politicians, athletes, and actors.

I don't like the new music. It's not enough "driving." It's too much "meandering." The old music had the perfect amount of both. I understand the risk in trying to recreate the first two albums. But that's where creativity comes in - I've hoped for so long that he could blow everyone's mind again, and update the 2001 sound to 2026 relevance. But with each new album, it isn't looking likely. He's just doing 1980's palm muting and chorus pedal. He's just muttering like a post punk vocalist. He's become who detractors in 2004 thought he was: "He's a hipster copying stuff from the past." I've argued online for him. I've converted multiple musician friends. We're open with each other about bands we like and don't like. They all find 2-3 Strokes songs that they listen on repeat or try to play on guitar or drums after I gave them a mix CD (yes I'm old).
