How did BOC get so good so fast and then stopped progressing even though technology advanced like crazy? Old tunes sound like an infant smashing a toy keyboard and Geogaddi is like Michelangelo audio engineering edition. Their releases are 6 years apart. Then they just stayed at that level
>>
Introit is the best little opener jingle they have ever done (though it's almost too on the nose) and prophecy has really grown on me

all their records have lots of vocals
their earliest stuff has the most and TH has the least

to me inferno is equal parts r3htt/old tunes/hell interface with TH and a sprriiiiinkle of geogaddi

"I got a feeling after listening to the album that they got sick of letting their style go straight to Taylor Swift, etc. I bet someone told em, “hey, literally everyone bites you. Why don’t you do the authentic version and get paid for it? And go further down in recording history?!”

This is a re-introduction. I bet there will be an announcement of something bigger somewhere down the line. Work with a pop star or something. I’m hearing Weeknd all over this record. Very electro. " guess where this incredible comment is from!

iirc when they were pressed after using Carpenter over ICE edits, they did admit it was about trolling and kicking the hornets nest, so ignoring them isnt necessarily a bad strat. idk, i just loathe the arrogance of thinking theyre above the law because the internet moves too fast

I really doubt it. Btw if they had kids in the early 2000s they should’ve gone independent by now unless they had more later. They could become even more active.

I’d expect their last album ever to be some tender ambient thing

I can’t exactly recall if it was in the car with my dad on the way to Seattle, WA or if it was recommended by a family friend and I would listen to them via the Multimedia QuickTime Player. Would’ve been 2006 right around the release of Campfire Headphase. Chromakey Dreamcoat was such an amazing song to me as a kid, and still amazes me today all these years later.

Feels odd it took me so late in my life to discover Boards of Canada, but I was on a week-long vacation in Portland, Oregon in 2019 where I visited a large, local indie music store. I stumbled upon Trans-Canada Highway and the name BoC seemed vaguely familiar to me, so I bought the CD on a whim and listened to it when I got home on the other side of the country. I was transfixed and mesmerized and became a fan then and there.
>>
>>130450370
In 2001, I was 16. I had just started smoking weed and experimenting with psychedelics. I was into Skinny Puppy, NIN and Radiohead. They ended up leading me to buying an Aphex Twin CD and the guy at the local record store turned me onto Boards of Canada and Mogwai in the same day.
They were both two of my favorite bands/artists from that day.

Around 2003 I think - between Geogaddi and TCH anyway.
I never liked TCH and found it really bland and simplistic and not very BoC but put this down to le divisive album and kept playing it over and over to let it click. Never happened
In 2014 or 2015 after I'd fallen back in love with them after TH I realised that for the past decade I'd been listening to a fake TCH and it was all a bunch of no-name songs by no-name artists that had been listed as TCH on slsk.
was super excited as this meant I had a whole new BoC album to listen to
But then still found it bland and uninspired but persisted and persisted (again)
10 years later it still hasn't fully clicked, though I quite like it now
Moral of the story: buy vinyl I guess
>>
>>130450759
Same TCH is the only one that doesn't do it for me, it's definitely not bad but it's also not incredible. Couple good songs on it though

Must've been late 2002 or 2003, I was getting into jazz, electronic and hip hop beats, Endtroducing with The Birth Of The Cool, Jimmy Smith The Sermon, I was bumping those Victor Vaughn and Prefuse73 albums, so I browsed the Electronic section in The Wall at the mall or was it Sam Goody, idk. MHTRTC was what I bought based on the cover, knowing nothing about it, other than that it was highly acclaimed. The color of the artwork being slightly the same color of my bedroom. I was into the fade of old photographs and painting over photographs deliberating obscuring them, at the time. I thought the album was brilliant for sure, felt deep and fragile like it would be carried away by the wind at any moment, but too cutesy for my tastes. I actually thought it was made by a black DJ and was genuinely shocked to later learn it was two white Scot brothers. Also I'm pretty sure I gave that copy away to a girl. I grew to appericiate MHTRTC, but prefer Geogaddi, which is more of my speed and imo their best album.

I'm guessing that MWCYF stands for something like Michigan West Christian Youth Foundation. MBI has their own media archives. I assume that this is a recording of some conference they had, with people singing along to music, only either the tape has degraded over time, the recorder itself was broken, or the tape speed has been altered and messed around with by BoC.
Probably the latter because I also hear backmasking.
