Is Phonk really Brazil's soft power in the big 26?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GXioir-fujY

used to be Russia's soft power 5 years ago
>>

Brazilian Phonk is quite literally the most vomit inducing form of """music""" to ever exist.
>>
>>130456358
kind of upsets me. Brazilian Funk (with a u) is amazing, ground breaking, next level, etc. Brazilian Phonk was a novelty that's now long overstayed its welcome because zoomers like listening to it while they jerk off

I always thought that Memphis revival sound, ala $uicideboys, was considered "phonk." Not that it's particularly good, but it's nice background music. You know, hypnotic beats, deep bass, lo-fi rap samples, etc.

The other day I put on a phonk playlist on Spotify and it was all these howling Portagee monkey sounds. When did the switch happen? I know genre definitions can be fluid, but that's not what I expected at all. Has Soundcloud rap not made it down to Brazil yet?

Azymuth are fantastic. I suppose they're mostly considered a fusion band, but they're pretty damn funky.
>>
Russian phonk was actually good, of course Brazil had to mix it with reggaetón and remove everything that actually made it good
>>
>>130456643
>reggaetón
kys burger

Not really.
It's too online and one dimensional.
People buy merch and form massive communities for J and K-pop.
People travel to see Rock or DnB acts.
Phonk just exists in montages and playlists.
Brazil is significantly more relevant in terms of Goa Trance because that actually moves money and crowds.

2019 or so.
Drift Phonk essentially did what House did to Disco and swallowed the entire institution overnight.
>>
>>130456609
Kek that's american Funk made by brazillians! I think there's been a miscommunication here...
>>
Brazil's soft power is Bunda
>>
>>130456486
No one in the first world listens to this shit.

>>130456583
It happend when "Drift Phonk" (some EDM and Memphis rap fusion genre used in car videos) became a new genre that was big in Russsia and Ukriaine (Pharmacist, MoonDeity etc). Brazilian Phonk is Brazilian Funk (not actual Funk it's a different genre) and Drift Phonk fused together. The only memphis connection is the cowbell sound.

Most certainly, we are indeed capable of competent derivative samples of world's music, but the best thing I can think Brazil made that's actually new and good is the Samba Rock movement, which is some derivative bullshit with heavy melodramatic tones but inside our own space instead of plagiarizing the american music industry. And our music production quality is incompetent at best, they use some equipment wrong, get the flattest of tones and brag about the result like it's the second reinvention of the wheel

Meu irmão em Cristo, ragaton é uma merda

you grew up with it, you can't tell. to non-brazilian ears, the stuff is almost incomprehensibly futuristic.
