truly envious of those anons experiencing naraka for the first time
>>130460402i fucking floated the first time i heard it, it was a while since i experienced something like this

naraka is amo bishop roden pt 2
>>130460412Yeah and it says the video is unavailable . *Sigh*
After one listen, my standouts are:* Prophecy at 1420 MHz* Hydrogen Helium etc.* Father and Son (don't know why certain people are savaging this track, it's super fun and creative)* Memory Death* The Word Becomes Flesh* Blood in the Labyrinth* Deep Time* All Reason Departs* You Retreat in Time and SpaceFunny enough Naraka didn't blow me away as much as everyone said it would, not a bad track though. There wasn't a single bad track on here in fact, I can't really pick a least fave because everything sounded great. ...I guess maybe Arena Americanada, because the grandiose title made me expect more from it, but even then it's just a really good album.
>>130460458This madlad posted it though.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8VOaV0A8BWo
I’ll listen to it tomorrow I don’t wanna be tired at work
>>130460501Already heard it but thank you. It's ok. Glad some people seem to love it
CAPRICORN
Relative to all the other dogshit coming out this is fantastic. By BOC standards this is just fine.
What the fuck is a mabus?
I still don't think the promo campaign for Inferno fits the album at all. The posters of the creepy children, doesn't gel well with the aesthetic and the vibe of Inferno, imo. However, it fits Geogaddi literally perfectly. Geogaddi has a lot of like creepy "childlike" songs like "Beware the Friendly Stranger", "Julie and Candy", "Dawn Chorus" and more. Geogaddi is also much darker compared to Inferno. It's as if this promo with the child posters was meant for Geogaddi, but was cut just for it to be reused in the future.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x0mhZHOfKj8https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBydEaf6iv4https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WmgtRK4_l5Q
Just say Deep Time, there's no reason to call it Tape 05 now
annnnnd we're back again play that funky music.

Father and Son is TERRIFYINGI don't think you guys are hearing this it is the MOST uncanny aesthetic once you tap into the vibeMark my words this will be one of the most "popular"/notorious songs from the whole projectFirst time I heard it, it almost sounded whimsical. Listening to it now in a much more vulnerable state, I cannot get over how freaked out I got by it. I actually think it's the most unsettled by music I've ever been. The uncanny valley effect.
>>130461041best is a tall statement.i'm glad you like it but amo is grading on my ears.
They still got it.
OH FUCK. I JUST REALIZED IT'S MIDNIGHT. I'm going in for my first listenthrough.
retvrn, white man
>>130461117Man how has the internet not got to this by now? I was close to the initial tape buying frenzy when I could have actually dropped big Bitcoin bucks on it, the time mu-Ziq smashed it allegedly. And a second time years later a guy knew of someone in possession of the tapes which it would just be really nice to get a cleaner recording there.
i hope there's some written interviews again, i miss hearing from my pookies...
>>130461130I mean, they’re just straight up playing with devil music at this point. This album is more Coil than I’d expect, but they talked about feeling more nihilistic than ever in 2013.
>>130461156The brothers get pissed when any of their old stuff leaks. Their family and friends are just really good and faithful people who honor their wishes.
Or, quite possibly, their old albums never existed and were invented as a marketing stunt. Guess we won't know for another 30 years.
>>130461156im not surprisedsee how long it took for All Lights Fucked to leak?boc maxima, old tunes, and r35t were leaks too. twoism was also completely lost until they reissued it. they just have a ton of lost material and i'm surprised we've heard as much of it as we have
>>130461130It's too funky to be scary. Sounds like a YTP and I think I like it.
>>130461179feels more godly to me but i can see where you get that.
>>130461206I was feeling the funk too before something shifted!! I can't believe I'm listening to the whole album, I had no intention of actually listening a 2nd time. I'm so tired and it's so compelling. This is like Lux all over again
>>130461197not really an effective marketing stunt lol. i'd wager that most boc fans don't know or care about the unreleased stuffthe kicker for me is that twoism, boc maxima, old tunes, and r35t were originally all in the same category as Play by Numbers at some point. twoism was a reissue while the others were actual leaksthe only one that i think doesnt exist was acid memories
>>130461179Serious question: do you really think so? What makes you think that it is anything beyond creative (even cheeky, or emotionally-charged) sampling, and actually stepping into occult? I genuinely want to know.
>>130461198i was reading that even the music that we 'know' about is like 5% of their actual unreleased output. that they were working on a boxset but keep getting overwhelmed by how much material there is. and that all the stuff, all the albums like play by numbers etc would be in it, but that really they were an extremely small portion.what we think of as 'their back catalog' is just super random projects that happened to escape from a merzbow-level unheard catalog
>>130461239he doesnt think so, he's just being a dramatic gay faggothe probably likes Rick & Morty too
Just go to listening to Naraka. This is so problematic...
Holy shit those synths on Hydrogen Helium Lithium Leviathan...
>>130461266>like 5% of their actual unreleased outputthat's something that i definitely think they're exaggeratingi mean i know they've reiterated it multiple times throughout the 00s and up to 2013 but i just don't buy it. especially since it's supposedly material worthy of being released in a boxset? i just don't believe that
>>130461232The new "leaks" on Sam's YouTube page have been phenomenal.
>>130461311are you talking about the studio quality version of ATP-06 or whatever
>>130461292from how schizo they are i'd buy it maybe not to the astronomical amount they say but i'm sure there IS a massive backlog since they're been making stuff for so long. They're just so perfectionist that unless they think it's perfect by their standards it's not getting released.
>>130461292It felt very sincere to me. Speaking as someone that makes music almost all the time out of love and even took several years off, the amount of serious material that has gathered is truly overwhelming. They've been doing this since the late 80s, I was only doing it for a period of like 7 years. I amassed over 1000 songs. I am sure with the long gaps they have, the talent and their love for music that they are telling the truth.I also empathize with the passage of time getting away from you and letting something like organizing 1000 songs get pushed to the backburner.
This is pretty creepy.
has anyone listened to the continuous mix? any difference?
>>130461321i dont doubt the sheer amount of material, im referring to the times they've said they were working on a boxset but alluded to the aforementioned amount of material as the reason they keep abandoning the projectthat's the main part of the claim that i have trouble believing. there's no way they have that much material that's worthy of a boxset (alongside the much requested C3, Hooper Bay, and Play By Numbers)
>>130461329Yeah - - It turns out that the mix is actually 99% the same as the regular album, but with different mastering/'quieting'/smoother and gapless playback. So subtle almost not worth mentioning, but it is not a 1:1 exact copy. But for what it's worth, it's the continuous mix that got me into the album. Maybe just because it was my 2nd listen; maybe there is some voodoo subtle effect they put on it. But 1st listen was so-so; my 2nd listen (with cont. mix) is just like... is this their best album ever???
>the transition from deep time to all reason departs>that fucking dropshit made me jump
I got panic attack symptoms listening to Somewhere Right Now In The Future. I'll have to listen to the rest of the album tomorrow.
>>130461350i meaaan judging by the one off tracks they've played for live events i could believe it, there's some real gems in there.
>post yfw hare krishna
happy official release everybody!
I can't believe it. It actually doesn't suck.
>>130461350from what i heard of a few old tunes vol 1 & 2 and boc maxima, it feels like they have very high quality stuff in their 'older' period. even the official 3 songs from their older stuff like play by numbers that used to be on their website sounded crazy.obviously we're just speculating. but the other thing is i don't think they were necessarily trying to do it to 'impress the fans' i think it was more for THEM, to just get their music all together in one place, and then sure, release it. it didn't sound like they even considered quality/non-quality, but it feels like it would certainly be at the absolute worst, intriguing to listen to and at the best, a treasure trove. "vintage boards of canada" almost feels like the universe collapsing in on itself, conceptually / ouroboros vibesas an aside, i want to say that i am at such peace listening to this. i feel so alone in life. i look like a stud. everyone thinks im totally normal and have a gf and friends and success. but im not. im all alone. ive done everything i can -- i now wrestle, try to communicate with friends, but even after having friends, i am isolated in an island i still cannot escape. and sexually i am so lost. i feel so much desire, but am perpetually in a state of paralysis. passion wise i am carrying a major burden of a project that i am on track to complete, but it's taking so long and it's my real purpose but it's like because of the delay, everyone wonders what my deal is. but that's my deal. im trying so hard to make my life work. but im now in my mid 30s and it feels like i might be alone forever. or end up compromising even if im not. and this music and this discussion, it's been so nice. it's crazy how at peace i feel. i realize in these moments how all these expectations of existence don't matter. my experiences are still valid. my life is still in a state of meaning. in this moment i am free. i am smiling.just felt like, why can't we just be real
>>130461208where do you see them getting that? i can guess, but i want to hear specifics if you don't mind.
>>130460689Dangit I posted this in the last thread after everyone jumped ship
>>130461502*sucks you off*
>>130460390I look like this
I wish I could listen to this album as 7 year old to figure out if it’s universally unsettling at any age or if it has to do with being an adult and projecting. It doesn’t seem like it should be so dark, but it feels evil
>>130461502we see u anonWarp catalog number 496, intentionally chosen by BoCIn physicsThe number 496 is a very important number in superstring theory. In 1984, Michael Green and John H. Schwarz realized that one of the necessary conditions for a superstring theory to make sense is that the dimension of the gauge group of type I string theory must be 496. The group is therefore SO(32). Their discovery started the first superstring revolution. It was realized in 1985 that the heterotic string can admit another possible gauge group, namely E8 x E8. Superstring theory is an attempt to explain all of the particles and fundamental forces of nature in one theory by modeling them as vibrations of tiny supersymmetric strings.[1]
>>130461523i think it's quite literally unsettling. to the point that i wouldn't subject a child to this lololthough there are real moments of peace and beauty, much like a cult or ritual
>>130461427nothing is real anon
>>130461523I dunno. I haven't felt that way throughout the album, though I understand why some anons have gotten freaked out over some of the songs like, say, Father and Son. I've never felt unsettled by Geogaddi either though, so I guess I'm just immune to that sort of stuff.
>>130461523>>130461533>>130461583Leviathan gave me a very uneasy feeling until it turns into a John Carpenter tune halfway through, really effective sounds. I enjoy feeling unnerved though so it works out well.
Just finished listening to Inferno. Gonna have to give it another listen later but it was very good. Arena Americanada rocks
>>130461130Having exposed to Pogo in formative years, this is just excessive vocal sample with transforming effects and not very musical
This is their best album ever. Wow. What an evolution. 1.) I cannot get over the shift from my first listen to my second2.) I am so impressed and proud of how deep and far this music goes3.) Despite it's apocalyptic themes, I am so drawn into the present here and now of the very real future we are in, by being engaged by such futuristic, wild, ultimately forward-reaching artASIDE: Is this the first project where Boards of Canada is really, really looking forward? For a band so associated with the past, nostalgia and samples, it's like all of that has been turned the opposite direction. Yes, it's a largely terrifying, unsettling project -- but it's also interspersed with so much beauty and the vibes don't feel like worn-out samples, but like glimpses into a future.Just bought. Wow. I have to have a copy...
>>130461622bro i LOVED pogo haha.... i still stand by my statement though!

The use of stereo in this album is amazing
In a previous thread and anon was saying that Capricorn was giving them Final Fantasy X vibes. Anyone know what they meant by this? I didn't get that at all
>>130461648I feel like tomorrow’s harvest was absolutely looking forward, the whole thing is intended to invoke societal and environmental collapse. I don’t know what the fuck they’re trying to say with this one. I super dislike the tracks with the heavy sampling personally, harvest is better in every way as a whole, but some of this are still awesome. Current favorite is hydrogenheliumlithiumlevitation by far.
I can't tell if this is my favorite album of theirs, or if that's the anticipation or honeymoon phase speaking. I think I'll need to sit with this onefirst impressions are they blew it out of the water
>>130461695i just meant like, how big merzbow's catalog is, i was implying that's how big their unreleased catalog is. didn't word that the best.
>>130461771i understand now
>>130461754at the time, TH felt like looking forward. but in retrospect and on a relisten recently, i feel it was still very much rooted in a present tense. probably splitting hairs, but it's clearly envisioning a future, but in doing so it actually evokes more of where we really are already. i feel like inferno is reaching eons into the future. but i get what youre saying.
>>130460382Just finished listening. Didn't quite click for me at first, but it very much came together for me as it progresses. Wouldn't call it their best by any stretch of the imagination, but I would say it's probably stronger than Tomorrow's Harvest, maybe even Campfire Headphase. I can very easily see this undergoing a mass reappraisal sometime in the future.Best tracks: Hydrogen Helium Lithium Leviathan, Naraka, Deep Time, You Retreat in Time and Space

>>130461760I’m sorry need to have an inflammatory and immediate response if you’re going to continue posting here. Please correct course.
Geogaddi and MHTRTC will forever be in a completely different level
How overblown are the rumours that this band arranges everything in their music to fit some occult vision?
>>130461876it's definitely overblown. they just have fun with ideas, imagery and mystique. they've been on record saying they are explicitly not 'satanic' or anything like that.
>>130460382Album starts off bonkers, grinds to a halt by track #5. You can all drink the kool-aid, but I'm afraid Marcus was right to sit this one out. TH stans stay winning. BTW Prophecy is legit.

I am gonna be honest, I'm unsure whether or not I'm happy about this album. If it's gonna take another 13 years or so to release an album and this is what they leave behind? Nah not too happy about that. Still praying they'll release their unreleased material in some way.
i have noticed all the 5 star reviews are from zoomers and 2-4 star reviews are from uncs. I think its because for zoomers being part of """boc fandom""" is more important than the music.

>>130463244After the Treat Em Right remix, BoC just stuck with a certain production style that really suits them. I always thought their lo-fi aesthetic was a limitation of their equipment rather than being intentional. In such a courageous album, for BoC standards, anyway, it doesn't fit. I kind of hate it really.

>>130463673>the appearance of sampled Hare Krishna chanting on the ghastly Naraka makes it seem as if they’re laughing at eastern religionNot right>A better critique of religion comes on All Reason Departs, with the treatise of what sounds like some Christian nationalist (“the initiation of a new beyond … a great war must be fought”) pitched into a demonic whisper. It's sampled from a christian documentary but the actual quote is from Aleister Crowley so also not right>proto-dubstep track Amo Bishop RodenStill not right>To their credit the brothers have expanded their range, particularly with the addition of guitarsFull retard
>>130463761I can't believe he seriously suggested they used guitars on this album for the first time in their career. What a pseudointellectual tryhard.Just started listening past Prophecy and holy fuck, this shit is already a 10/10

>>130463217Why would you do that, you're just as worse as the zoomers only caring about being in the fandom.
>>130463835Feel free to quote and laugh in 20 years but I really feel this could be the start of more frequent releases. Do you really release something that so fresh for the group and then just dip for a decade again? Probably, but they're mad to not put an EP again while the iron is hot. Plus if they wait any longer the AI apocalypse will happen.
>>130463856>so freshWhat do you mean? It sounds very much like Boards of Canada. All their albums do, they're not like Autechre who completely reinvent themselves between albums, like Oversteps sounds nothing like Exai.
On first listen I thought it was mid, but on a second listen it's already a much more holistic experience. I feel like there's careful projections to all of their previous albums on this one. Here are the most prominent ones.> Father And SonNod to MHTRTC> Blood in the LabyrinthNod to Geogaddi > Memory DeathNod to Campfire Headphase> Arena AmericadanaNod to Tomorrow's Harvest> You Retreat In Time and SpaceNod to it all, but most importantly a nod to EYDIAB
>>130463869Nah their production sounds very different for this one, they're hinting at genres they have not touched before (or rarely) too. As another another anon wrote, there is a definite shift with the remixes from their treat em right remix onwards that is reflected in this album

It’s better than any fans would’ve expected after the absolute shitfest Halo4 OST (Tomorrow’s Harvest). However, there is not a single track on this that can hold a candle to any of the first 4/5 tracks on Campfire Headphase, which is regarded as their weakest album outside of Tomorrow’s Harvest of course.None of these tracks compare to even the sleepers on MHTRTC and Geogaddi.Telephasic Workshop, Olson, Pete Standing Alone, An Eagle in your Mind, for example, are in an entirely different league. Geogaddi, a great album but nothing close to MHTRTC, could not swap its worst tracks for any of Inferno’s best with the possible exception of Deep Time.As an overall experience, Inferno is forgettable for large sections, like the latter half of Campfire, small sections of Geogaddi, and the entirety of Tomorrows Harvest. It is clearly their second worst album.t. 2010, ttyl reddit

>>130464291I know music is bleak right now but you are forcing this album (and its subpar tracks) to fill an impossible void. Age of Capricorn in particular has such a ridiculously cliche melody. It sounds like something that might be scooped up into a Netflix original series where the idea of subtext has been completely forgotten about. Campfire Headphase tracks are their own vibe, they are basically for the campfire head space. Why the fuck would I listen to MABUS over any of the tracks you listed? You’re either joking, or more likely, forcing.
>>130464345ill force my willy up your arse m8I was overegging it a bit as I do like TCH, but this is still a perfectly good album with a great vibe in its own right
So I went to a 'listening party' without actually hearing the album...I arrived at 4.40 pm, as the listening session was due to start at 5 pm. The record shop was pretty full, but there was still plenty of room to walk around. I joined the queue for an LP and some goodies, where more people (and throughout the shop) were chatting amiably with one another. Then, without any clear announcement, they started playing the album in the shop without further ado. First ‘Introit’, then ‘Prophecy’... By the time it was my turn and I was standing at the counter (and I could already hear the third track playing in the background), they told me that everything was sold out, including the goodies, and that I’d have to come back tomorrow if I wanted to buy the album.A bit disappointed but still very hyped to hear the album, I found a spot in the record shop somewhat near a speaker. After a minute, the speaker was suddenly turned down a lot. A minute later, the whole record was stopped and they suddenly started playing some pop song. I walked back to the counter to ask why they hadn’t finished playing the album, and then they casually told me that they’d just sold the LP that was on the turntable for the listening session as well. Everyone walked out disappointed and I then took the train home without having heard the album. Pretty surreal experience honestly. And what a lack of respect towards BoC, Warp and everyone who was there to hear the album for the first time.Anyway, the album’s finally out now, so it’s all good in the end! Hope everyone enjoys listening to it properly :)

Boomkat review is up. They clearly think it's mid, but also know it'll sell a lot of copies, so try to be polite with their hatred of it.
>>130464400>they casually told me that they’d just sold the LP that was on the turntable for the listening session as well.this really increased my suspicions on the veritability of holocaust by a good margin

Honestly, I don’t know very to think, it is eliciting a whole range of feelings for me, it’s superb. I was wondering if this could be the album of the year before it came out, now upon listening I think it could easily be the album of the 2020’s.I feel blessed to be able to listen to it at first with my kids. They are very young but they love BoC. Always ask for the “orange” song.

>>130463883What you call direct inspiration I call them demos rehearsed from different eras. The production level makes it clear. I think that the reflection should be at an higher level: is their style incompatible, or outdated, with the current state of the art of electronic music production? Is it solvable by investing more on production? Or is the album uninspired? At a lower level: I hear many influences from their diaspora of artists. Malibu, Giegling artist. I believe this is a love letter to us fans and to the world: we did everything we could, but we’re gone, now it’s your time.Btw: Father and Son reminds of a Gescom track.
>>130463883At the first listen, I thought this was their best.Father and Son is pretty much a Melodyne advertisment, Still this is my favourite song of the album. Outside Age of Capricorne.

Why every good musician has to trick it's listeners to abide contemporary geopolitical agenda...I just can't bear it anymore. I loved BoC. But this is just too blatant. They claim to mock/imply religions suppressing over people yeah and we're living the inferno etc. but apparently this darkness only happens upon Christianity in this album for some reason. Ah, but look how hopeful and happy the tunes with Muslim professor and Krishna chant.Same with NIN. Reznor claims and praises nihilistic worldview all the ever since, but always yells against Christianity somehow.FUCK IT. I got what this anon meant now. >>130463910The bias is so obvious.I'M ALSO NOT HAVING THE CORN SYRUP ANYMORE.FUCK YOU.CHRIST IS KING.
oh yeah christschizo meltie, loving this album so far
>>130464998and as if the catchiness of Naraka weren't enough, they added Middle Eastern tunes to the rest of the album to ensure listeners are captivated. They knew it would be the banger hit of the album because of obviously shit rest of the roster.
The CD was a bitch to take out of the sleeve. Now I'm reminded of how much of a meme CDs are. But the little photo booklet was nice.
yeah i have made up my mind - this album largely does nothing for me, there are about 4-5 exceptions, YRITIS being a stellar high point and what i would normally expect from BOC in the first place. The album is full of dull padding, though, and it saddens me. Oh well, they can't all be bangers.5/10 which puts it on par with Tomorrow's Harvest.
>>130461622>Having exposed to Pogo in formative years, this is just excessive vocal sample with transforming effects and not very musicalman i haven't thought about that dude in like a decade and change. shit was so long ago his channel's name was faggotron

Anyone else get the Warp promo?
Pretty intradasting album. Kinda cinematic compared to their older stuff, which feels more like lucid dreaming or being on drugs. This album is very self-aware. Also noted that it starts out scary but slowly turns into orgy sex party music and then The Process is like a little 9/11 moment, and then you’re dead and ascend into a cosmic heaven on You Retreat In Time And Space. And finally, on Platonia, we get reminded that the album is telling us the only real thing is now
Father and Son sounds like a Crash Bandicoot level without the vocals

>>130461130I think that's wonderful!
>>130464998>>130465032Plenty of Christian themed tracks on their previous albums like Geogaddi are respectful. You're making a fuss about nothing really.
>>130465167Yes, that's why I loved BoC. But, this one is sinister on purpose. If you want to go against all, do it against all, no problem for me. You don't just mock Christianity and cutify others and then say you mock cults and religions overall.
