Small Crimes is an incredible song
A Way Down from the new record is the first post-reunion song they’ve put out that captures something of the darkness of Small Crimes & Heliotropic for me
>>130476585>any excuse just to frogpost
>>130476585What the frog doing
For me, it's Wet Gravity

>>130476585>>130476784has anyone made a pepe edit of this album cover
>>130476797saluting
>>130476585Yeah
>>130476585>Justin Chancellor of Tool owns Greg's Wal bass used on this album.
>>130476739The new album is elevator music. These guys just don't have anything left to offer sadly.
>>130482087Pretty much agree and also sadlyYouth and drugs were maybe too essential to their mojo, many such cases
>>130482523Greg had a good run with Autolux as well. Greg and Ken differ on recording approaches too. Greg is an Analog indie Shoegazer type at heart and Ken prefers cutting edge digital production techniques and gear. Greg likes his SVT valve amps and old 80's rack units while Ken prefers Fractals and Kemper units. Ken gets the final say because he is the producer and engineer for the final mixes. They really were a niche band for a narrow period of time. That was a wild era of music, Space Rock as I remember it labeled.
>>130482616Really thoughtful take, thanks. I think you’re right about that balance never being restored. All the reunion stuff is way too biased toward’s Ken’s thing. On the recent Pinfield interview they talked about how for the new record it was mostly Greg and Kelli doing all the main writing and Ken came in later after his recovery. I wondered if that helps explain why I connected more (but not fully) with the new songs. Putting Autolux against Year of the Rabbit really puts it in contrast how different Greg and Ken are stylisticallyAll said I’m actually glad they keep trying and aren’t out there embarrassing themselves like many others who should have packed it in ages ago (looking at you Corgan)
>>130482691I associate Hum with your Space Rock and love Inlet, rare case of pulling off a legit follow up album imo
>>130482691I read that interview and I knew the moment I heard the abstract song titles and lyrics "This is like 75% Greg" since the whole album has that synth-y feel to it. Usually when Ken is in control its more guitar driven overall. YOTR was some great radio indie rock as well and I myself would look forward to another YOTR album if Ken ever decided to get back to that project. It really is interesting how Failure has to balance two people's ideas of style and approach to make an album. Ken was right when he described Failure as a "Project Band" since we fans never know what to expect from one album to the next.
>>130482710Inlet was a great album. Lots of heavy detuned riffs and abstract lyrics.
>>130482710I was lucky enough to see both Failure and Hum play this month.Hum really killed it, one of the best shows I've been to in a long time.
>>130482797Awesome, really wish I could catch their current thing. I did get to see failure and hum in DC during their first reunion tours. I’ve been watching those recent Hum concerts on YT and it sounds so good, great variety of songs too. Hum has always had like negative stage presence though, lolFuck I hate these stupid captchas
>>130482797lucky fucker.
>>130476585There are time when I think “Undone” really is the song of the 90s… insane is the only word.
>>130486049elite bass line
>>130476585The title track will always be my favorite, the most intense straight-up grunge song they've done.
It's horrible how this band isn't more popular
>>130476585Masterpiece album, fantastic planet doesn't come close
